Approved Species The Hellyni

Status
Not open for further replies.
Name: Hellyni

Designation: Sentient

Homeworld: Hora

Language: Hellynic

Average height of adults: Males: 1.9m; Females: 1.7

Skin color: Caucaussian white to slightly tanned. The latter being more prominent.
There are no yellow or black skinned Hellyni, unless they are adopted which technically makes them non-ethnical Hellyni.

Hair: Hellyni’s hairs tend to be thick and curly, most of the time. Straight hairs are common as well but just like the former they are thick. Thin hair amongst Hellyni is extreme rarity. Furthermore, their hair tends to be mostly black or very dark brown. Other hair colors exist but are very rare. The lighter the color of hair is the higher the rarity. Blondes or any other light colored hair Hellyni tend to be those that have mixed with outlanders but that is a very rare case as well considering that Hellyni prefer their own most of the time.

Eyes Colors: Predominantly brow and black. Lighter colors are not common, but not impossible to occur. 75% Brown/Black 25% Light colored (Hellynic Institute of Statistics, 835 ABY).

Breathes: Human type of atmosphere.

Strengths:
  • · Pioneers: Generally, Hellyni are very entrepreneurial and innovative. They make great leaders and possess very high intelligence that aids them in all aspects of life.
  • · Immune to Mind-altering effects: Over their long span of existence, for a reason yet to be found, Hellyni are immune to powers that affect their mind. A simple example is that the use of Force Mind Trick on a Hellyn will be useless.
  • · Strong but erratic in the Force: Hellyni are mostly Force Sensitive and they tend to have much greater potential in the Force than Humans. Not all Force Sensitive though and this is classified as neutral due to the fact that here has never been an order that taught the Force, it was simply acknowledged as blessing. As such, Hellyni force users, if wanting to develop their great potential, had to go off-world and pursue a place where they could be taught.
  • · Lightsaber Weapons Expertise: This is classed as neutral due to it being simply a feat. Hellyni have utilized lightsaber weapons since their existence. This is mainly due to their homeworld being rich with lightsaber crystals. As such, lightsaber weapons in Hellynic society are not something that needs some special skill as it is commonly perceived in the wider galaxy. Such weapons are perceived as how vibroswords are perceived in the galaxy – you just need training.

Neutral:
  • · Unyielding: Hellyni tend to be very unyielding, depending on the City State this ‘strength’ is amplified or dampened. Due to being a double-edged sword as they are Stubborn which will be additionally listed in the weaknesses section, it has been classed as neutral.
  • · Independent: Hellyni are very patriotic people. There maybe constant infighting and strife between the City States but when threatened by outlanders, Hellyni unite to retain their independence. This is classed as Neutral and will be further expanded in the Civil War weakness.
  • · Eternal Heritage: Their heritage is a very long one which has remained intact for over thousands of years. This although makes the Hellyni quite enduring and proud people, they are very reluctant on adapting other cultures into their own.
Weaknesses:
  • · Stubborn: One common trait amongst all Hellyni is the stubbornness they possess. This is quite ironic considering their high intelligence. Yet, it is something that differs more or less amongst the different City States
  • · Short fuses: Hellyni are usually quite short-tempered. This does not mean they have barbaric tavern brawls every time they talk with each other but it is in their culture to speak loud and express emotions freely. Considering their Pioneer trait they always tend to question a lot, this also is more or less amplified or dampened depending on the City State one hails from
  • · Civil War: The Hellyni have always been divided when not faced by an external threat. The whole concept of the City State says enough about that. They’re very prone on strife between each other despite having the same culture and blood. Some City States have intense rivalries with others, while other City States may be friendlier with each other. This is further discussed in the Culture section.
  • · Poison: The Hellyni are much more susceptible to poison than other species and spreads faster and has a stronger effect. If non-lethal it often times can permanently remain in their bodies debilitating them.

  • · High Metabolism: Having a metabolism much higher than a humans means that the Hellyni must keep themselves well fed and energized or risk muscle degradation much faster and noticeably than a human.

Distinctions:
Just like the case with the Epicanthix, they’re quite the same as humans physically but are immediately distinguished as Hellyni by everyone.

Average Lifespan:
· Males: ~83
· Females: ~91

The large gap of average lifespan between the two genders is due to the common civil wars between the Poleis.

Races: Look in Culture.

Estimated Population: 9.3 million with 2.1 million of these being part of the Hellynic diaspora (Hellynic Institute of Statistics, 843 ABY).

Diet: Omnivore. They have excellent cuisine which I will add to this application eventually using the submission modification option (Not joking).

Communication: Verbal and Written.

Culture:
  • General Behavior, Attitude, View of the Galaxy:
Hellyni tend to be quite hedonistic overally. They love and appreciate good wine, good food and good conversations. Hellyni value the good aspects that life gives and are very positive people. Due to their religion, they also have numerous festivals throughout the year.
Having fun is as important as working hard. This, of course, does not mean that they respect laziness. Quite the opposite, Hellyni believe that a man deserves relaxation equal to how much he has worked.

The Hellyni are very proud of their heritage and some go to unbelievable extent to brag about that. They like the fact that they are one of the first recorded civilizations in the galaxy. The Hellyni are very open minded and liberal. Yet, they are very opposed to cross-dressing, believing a man should be a man and a woman should be a woman, no matter what their sexual orientation is.

Although having explored near systems thousands of years ago when their Great Exploration Era began. In their colonization, the Hellyni did not force their culture upon those they colonized even though it was recorded that many actually took upon their culture voluntarily.

Due to being one of the oldest recorded civilizations in the galaxy, the Hellyni have developed a sense of arrogance. Depending on which City State one hailed from, arrogance was either more enhanced or more discouraged.

Hellyni are renowned for their unbelievable short tempers. They can be immediately recognized also by the fact that they are very loud, speaking loudly, gesturing chaotically, it is all part of their culture expressing freedom of one’s emotions. Hot blooded people.

They are also quite stubborn in nature and determined of accomplishing objectives. Hellyni can be described as being generally very bold. These stems from their pioneer nature. There are numerous successful Hellyni in all types of professions around the galaxy.

Despite being unbelievably united when facing external non-Hellynic threats, the Hellyni tend to be ripped apart from internal strife amongst the City States. In the wider galaxy, outside of Hora, the Hellyni retain their unity as they are amongst those that are considered foreign and external.

  • Names:
Hellynic male given names tend to end on –os –is or –as. Female given names are usually ending on –I or –a. Most if not all names in Hellynic language have meanings to them if they are dissected. Name decisions tend to be inspired by important figures in Hellynic histories.
Furthermore, many are named in respect to one of the Gods. Such names are NEVER the names of the Gods but variations of them such as – Aris, which is a variation of the Hellynic God of War’s name – Aristis.

In Hellynic naming tradition family name is non-existant. One takes as a ‘surname’ his father’s name in the manner of – Kratos, son of Pallas. Or if he is second, third, and etc… of his name AND his father’s name is different, the naming goes such as this – Kratos II, son of Pallas. IF the father’s name is the same (e.g Kratos II’s father is named Kratos), the naming goes simply such as this – Kratos II. VERY rarely would someone introduce himself as Kratos II, son of Kratos I.
IF one is an orphan and his father’s name is unknown, the naming simply goes like this – Kratos, son of No One. Most of the cases such a man would simply just say his given name and people would understand his case. Additionally, there have been cases where due to reasons such as shame or an orphan does not want to be linked to his father, one would only simply state his given name or in some extremities the ‘Kratos, son of No one’ way of introduction.

It is important to note that for any future character of this ‘species’ , please DO NOT use Greek names from Christianity. You might not find it as weird as I do but if I see the name Christos in this concept, I will probably puke. Look up on Google for ancient Greek names.

  • Hellynic Philosophy:
Philosophy is one of the factors that contribute to Hellynic pride. It specifically focused on reason and the inquiry – the thirst to know more which correlates with Hellyni’s trait of being pioneers. Hellynic philosophy is part of the foundation of the Galactic Republic in 25,053 BBY and parts of it still remain alive in the contemporary Galactic Republic. One such part is the Galactic Republic’s political system – democracy.
Although currently, Hellyni, as a whole, and Hellynic contemporary philosophers are very opposed to what the Galactic Republic stands for, arguing that it has become the opposite of what ancient Hellynic philosophers ‘preached’.

Hellynic philosophy has bred numerous philosophical schools yet there are two figures that stand out. Their thoughts and ideas being implemented in the creation of the Galactic Republic. These two figures are: Sofos and Skepsi.

  • Hellynic Art School:
Hellyni are recorded to have been one of the first civilizations to develop extensively art. Be it music, dance, theatre and literature. Many historians agree on Hellynic influence in the development of art, with many words in contemporary art deriving from Hellynic language.
Since ancient times, just like philosophy, Hellyni put great emphasize on art and it plays a great role in modern Hellynic society as it is part of their daily life. People of the art are well respected in Hellynic society. Especially the thousands of years old comical plays by Hamogelos are still played in theatres regularly.

  • Hellynic Science:
Hellyni’s innovative trait has also played a big part in understanding and developing science, especially in the sphere of mathematics, geography and astronomy. Many historians assume that Hellyni have played an essential part in first navigation computers created for the first hyperdrive created which was made by Humans and Duros. Opponents of that theory argue that Givin have played the part in the creation of the first navigation computers rather than the Hellyni.

The proponents of the theory that Hellyni, rather than the Givin, were essential in the development of the first nav computers base their argument on the fact that the Hellyni had one of the first more sophisticated ships capable of space explorations which they utilized in the colonization of neighboring planets.

  • Hellynic Technology:
Contemporary Hellynic technological level is on par with the rest of the Galaxy. The city states have different emphasis on technological development. Some have developed greater achievements in ship building, others in weapon crafting, and others in agricultural technologies. Yet, one common amongst all City States emphasis on technology is their expertise in creating all kinds of lightsaber weapons. This is mainly due to the abundance of different types of lightsaber crystals on their homeplanet of Hora.

  • Hellynic Religion:
A Pantheon of the Seven Gods.
  • · Arhikos: God of Sky, Order and Justice
  • · Aristis: God of War
  • · Attika: Goddess of Wisdom, Civilization, and War Strategy
  • · Dēmēthra: Goddess of Harvest
  • · Eratē: Goddess of Women, Family and Marriage
  • · Haphaisthios: God of Craftsmanship.
  • · Tafos: God of the Underworld.

Politics and Society:

skitched-20110207-155721.jpg

  • Political Structure:
Hora has been divided into Four Great City States – Poleis (plural; singular is Polis). Four of which consider themselves City States, only one identifies itself as a Kingdom.
· Attika
· Spathi
· Makrosia
· Emporio

Information regarding the Poleis are further expanded in their individual sub-sections.

The political structure of the Hellyni is the fragmentation of governments into the so-called City States. This does not mean that their territory only consists of the City they reside into but with surrounding villages or smaller towns who do not classify as independent city states and colonies.

Furthermore, the Four Great City States are not the only city states on Hora, there are hundreds of others but they‘re in league with one of the Great Four. Technichally, being their vassals. It was not uncommon for some of this vassals to pledge their complete entity to one of the Great Four becoming part of their actual territory, yet such cases were more often occuring during periods of civil war.

It was much more common for smaller city states to be vassals rather than totally extinguishing the little independence they have left.

During warring periods, the Poleis tend to join into Leagues. If it is war with a foreign aggressor, a League was established which encompassed all of the Hellynic City States. Although there have been rare cases when some City States did not participate in such Leagues against foreign invaders.

  • Citizenship, Slavery and Women:
Citizenship in Hellyni had different perks and concepts in the Four Great Poleis (further expanded in individual subsections of the Poleis). Generally, it is considered as a bond between a person and the Polis. Hellyni emphasized on the importance of citizenship due to the fact that it divided them from the slaves.
Moreover, the Polis was founded upon the rule of law, thus all men were subject to the same rules. Anyone putting themselves above the law were considered tyrants. Furthermore, every citizen had a share in power and responsibility (these shares varied amongst City States, further expanded in the individual subsections of the Poleis).

Citizenship‘s important aspect in Hellynic way of life was that it granted higher status to one in comparison to non-citizens such as slaves, foreigners and women.

Slavery exists in Hellynic society although the population has declined since the introduction of droids thousands of years ago, philosophers perceive it as ‘natural slavery’. Slaves’ had different ‘statuses’ amongst the different Poleis, but law everywhere forbade the mistreatment of a slave. In Hellynic society, slaves were generally considered as personal possession, yet in some City States such as Spathi they were more considered as an enhancement to a real estate. Additionally, depending on what profession the slaves were employed at their life could be easier or harder (Mine working slaves had a much harder life than craftsmen or public slaves).

The function of slaves was essential for Hellynic economy. They were mainly found in mines and in agriculture.
AFTER the introduction of droids in Hellynic society, thousands of years ago, slave population declined immensely and they were predominantly owned by wealthier families or the Polis itself.

Women in Hellynic society have always been considered the lesser gender and as NON-CITIZENS, except in Spathi where women could own property and vote.

I plan on encouraging female characters to participate in an arc where woman rights are established in Hellynic society. FIGHT FOR YOUR RIGHTS, WOMEN!
Additionally, so female character creation are not demotivated for this species, I would like to say to anyone planning on making a female Hellyn, that they can perceive the rules much more freely than as stated in this submission in order not to stop someone from making a Hellyna. Additionally the city of Spathi, woman do have rights to a certain degree.

Below are summarized the rights and roles of women and slaves in all Poleis, apart from Spathi.

WOMEN
  • Legal position
  • Women couldn't inherit property.
  • Women could give evidence under oath under a special procedure.
  • Women didn't appear in court as jurors or as litigants (i.e. party to a lawsuit).
  • Family law was handled by a woman's guardian e.g. father, husband.
  • Religious Role
Some festivals were restricted to citizen women; in others women had an important role.
  • Citizen women particularly figured in rituals connected with Demethra.
  • Women had an important role in funerals.

[*]Political Position
  • Women could not achieve political rights, although resident foreigners and even slaves could.
  • Citizen wives shared citizen status in as much as they could have sons who were citizens and daughters who could marry citizens.

[*]Domestic role
  • Women spent most time at home and indoors..
  • Amongst the better-off women, part of their time was spent in religious activities including festivals, so not always at home.
  • Wealthier women would learn to supervise the house slaves; guard the house provisions; budget expenditure and arrange for storing belongings neatly.
  • Women also responsible for the nurture of children.
  • Women of wealthier families had their own quarters in the home.
  • Wealthier women had less opportunity to mix socially.

SLAVES
  • Religious role
There was a holiday especially for slaves business was suspended and slaves dined with their masters.

[*]Legal position
  • Were mostly treated as property.
  • Could be bought, sold, and rented.

[*]Political position
  • Public slaves that were property of the Polis were considereda sort of 'elite'.
  • In theory, a male slave could become a citizen as if freed he became a resident foreigner and could then be granted citizenship.

[*]Economic position
  • Female slaves are known of in occupations such as retail trade and prostitution.
  • In unusual circumstance slaves could become wealthy: some worked in trade, manufacture and banking.
  • Most slaves in the public domain were skilled workers e.g. miners, artisans, craftsmen.
  • Many slaves were private slaves working in family houses.

  • The Force, Force Sensitivity, and Lightsabers:
For Hellyni the chance of being Force sensitive were much, much higher than Humans and generally they had greater potential in the Force than Humans. Yet, despite it is considered a blessing, Force users do not have any special rights, they are all equal under the rule of law in every City State.
Due to their enhanced Force sensitivity and potential, they made good use of utilizing the vast amounts of lightsaber crystal in the production AND the use of lightsaber weapons. Such weapons have been primary throughout the eras of Hellynic existence, as such they generally have higher expertise in the wielding of lightsaber weapons.

THE FOUR GREAT CITY STATES.

A T T I K A
wisdomowl572x429.png

Traits:
  • · From Sea to Space: Attikans are renown for their talent in ship building and ship operating. They are considered the naval leader of all Hellynic City States. Attikans own the largest shipyard in Hora’s space. Naval education was essential in Attikan education.
  • · Blessed by Attika: Named after the Goddess of wisdom and military strategy, Attikans are known as wise and sharp minded individuals. In their wars with Spathi, their supreme strategical choices have brought them victory in numerous cases and saved them from complete demise. This also relates to being the most developed politically City State, their intelligence playing a prime part on always trying to secure that spot of number one City State. Thus, their emphasis on science, arts and education is noticeable.
  • · Ambitious: Attikans are the most ambitious of all the Hellyni. This makes them quite determined but also they seem to overestimate themselves. This stems from the thousand year old drive of Attika to be the number one City State.
  • · Words, not Swords: Warriors are the people of Spathi, Soldiers are the people of Makrosia. Attikans are strategists, they do not excel in combat as much as their counter-parts in Spathi and Makrosia. They’ve mainly leveraged dominance by political actions rather than military. Furthermore, victories in warfare have mostly been made due to their intelligence rather than any exceptional combat skills.
  • Political Stucture
Attika was the sole City State to apply direct democracy. These section also explains how citizenship and women are perceived in Attika. The political structure was divided into three political bodies:
· The Assembly / Ekklesia:

‘'a man who takes no interest in public affairs is not apathetic, but completely useless.'
-A common Attikan saying

It accounted for 4000 people chosen randomly by a lottery. The only requirement was to be male citizen that has passed military service. To be as equal as possible, the lottery had different amount of spots for each different thesi (region, Attika was divided into something such as municipalities). The amount of spots for each thesi was proportionate to the population of male citizen that have passed military service that thesi possessed.

An Assembly served for 18 months.

At this meetings the Assembly made decisions about war, internal and foreign policy, changing of laws. Public officials’ conduct was also judged at the Assembly. Participating in the Assembly was voluntary but it was highly encouraged and not participating was looked upon with negativity.

· The Council / Vouli:

Also known as the Voice of the Four Hundred was the political body of Attikan government that acted as a council. They were the ones bringing the agenda for the Assembly to vote on. The members of the Council were drawn by a lottery, as it is believed that pure chance is not influenced by money and popularity.
The lottery drew 10 male citizens above the age of 30 from each of the 40 thesi.

The Council served for 18 months.

· The Courts / Dikasteria:

The third political body were the popular courts. Every year, 1500 jurors were chosen by lot from a pool of male citizens older than 35. They were divided into groups of five. It is argued that this political body contributed most to the strength of democracy because the jury had almost unlimited power.
The verdicts on court cases were decided by a majority rule of the jurors.

What distinguishes Attika from the rest?

Attika has always put great emphasis on two things – culture and exploration. The City State is home to the most developed art schools in Hora, Attika’s great expansion in the cultural sphere has made it as a metric to which other City States compare.

“Our schools are excellent, almost as good as the Attikan’s “

Most philosophical and technological inventions have been made in Attika. The Polis always focused on delivering the best education and creating a mentality of ‘enlightened citizens’ to which they have succeeded due to the well working political model of direct democracy.

Attikans are not warriors such as the Spathians, they are more hedonistic in nature than the latter. Within them, the love for good wine and good conversation is engraved, contrasting the laconic Spathians.

The City State is considered to be the leader in naval operations – from building to using. Their navy has been a crucial part in their survival in Civil Wars, especially against the Makrosians. The largest shipyards orbiting the planet of Hora belong to Attika.

Furthermore, Attikans are known as being arrogant and overestimate themselves. They love the hedonistic way of life.

S P A T H I

Coloured_Lambda.png

Traits:
  • · Warrior Culture: In all City States boys went for military training at the age of 18, in Spathi that occurred when the boy was aged 6. Thus, the Spathi are renowned for their militaristic nature and unrivaled skills in combat.
They adapt very quickly with all sorts of weaponry and are inhumanely endurable to pain. Spathians believe that each one of them equals a hundred Attikan soldiers in terms of combat. Furthermore, Spathians believed fiercely in ‘death before dishonor’. If one lost a battle and survived, he would be shunned by all the rest of Spathi.
  • · Do you even lift brah? : The Spathians’ have developed, over their thousands of years old warrior culture, inhumane strength. Average Spartans are able to pull up weight as much as the best of human weightlifters. This does not mean they can be throwing like eggs 300kgs but that the average Spartan has the strength of a competing human weightlifter.
  • · Anti-social: Spathians are mocked by the other City States for being laconic. Many non-Spathian playwrights have humored the public with plays that mock Spathians depicting them as people that have speech problems. This also drives their political actions which are mostly, if not solely, resolved by some sort of violent conflict
  • · Paranoid: Spathians grow with the notion that every thing that is foreign is a potential threat, making them xenophobic people. That attitude is the reason they make up the least number of Hellyni diaspora.

  • Political Structure:
Spathia divided its political entity into three bodies:

· Two Kings to rule them all:

The kingship was hereditary and dates back to two aristocratic families that are thousands of years old. Ascension belonged to the first born son. Both kings had equal share of power to prevent absolutism.

The duties of the kings were judicial, militaristic and religious. They were the primal priests of the state and were those that performed certain sacrifices in religious rituals. Their judicial authority was limited to cases with adoptions, heirs and public adoptions. In the militaristic aspect of responsibility, the kings were obliged to lead their armies into battle but are not allowed to declare war with majoritarian support of the Overseers.

· Overseers // Ephors

Five individuals that are annually elected by the citizens. It was forbidden for one to be re-elected. Overseers’ power was immense in Spathian politics, they did not have to kneel before the Kings. They are the executive branch of the state and their decisions are decided were made by the rule of the majority vote. Civil cases were under the overseers’ jurisdiction along with criminal cases.

· Council of the Elders // Gerousia

A council consisting of 21 elders over the age of 60, elected for life and usually part of the royal households. High state policy decisions were discussed by this council who could then propose action alternatives.

What distinguishes Spathi from the rest?

Spathi is by far the most distinguishable City State of the Four Great City States. Warriors, born and bred, they solved their problems with the sword. Education was primarily focused on combat rather than culture.

Additionally, the population of slaves is highest in Spathi and Spathian women had much more rights than women of the other City States. They were allowed to vote and to own properties and for a period of time had a single Queen to lead them.
Spathians were the strongest and most fearsome warriors on Hora but they were very poor in terms of naval operations.
One of the reasons they still have slaves is that Spathians are known of being very poor in operating ships and let alone building them.

The people of Spathi are known as xenophobic even to the other Hellynic City States. They considered everything non-Spathi as foreign although they do acknowledge that they are Hellynic. Non-Hellynic foreigners should be treading carefully in Spathi as the law tends to shut one eye when mistreatment occurs on an outlander.

Furthermore, Spathians have a distinctive dialect when speaking Hellynic which was easily recognizable.

M A K R O S I A
Vergina_Sun_-_Golden_Larnax.png

Traits:
  • · Disciplined: Makrosians are the most disciplined and methodical people of the Hellyni. They are very calculating and technical. Due to this feat they were able to stand their ground against numerous aggressive skirmishes committed by the Atticans.
  • · Technophiles: The Makrosians have become the dominant force in terms of technology amongst the Hellyni. They are considered technological gurus and most of their population are well familiar in all sorts of technological aspects, excelling in mechanics. This strength have made them have the most sophisticated means of warfare and most developed infrastructure in all of Hora.
  • · Disloyal: ‘They eat backs for lunch in Makrosia.’ is a common saying amongst the Hellyni regarding the backstabbing nature of Makrosians. It is not by surprise that millennia ago it was the location of the first assassin’s guild. The trick with Makrosians is that they need to be under one that is able to exert authority strongly over them, for them not to attempt any disloyal actions.
  • · Power Hungry: Makrosians have the notion to hunger for power, this might or might not stem from their political model of hereditary monarchy. They are opportunists by nature and take their chance when they can unscrupulously.

  • Political Structure:
Makrosia is the only City State which is not actually a City State but a Kingdom. Unlike their polis-styled Hellynic brothers, they believed in annexation and the rule of one. It employs two political bodies, one executive – the King and one counselling – the Council.
· The King:

Self-explanatory in this case. The King is the sole ruler of Makrosia, his word is above the written law. He takes the major decisions on the direction his kingdom is to follow. He commands the army, directs diplomacy and is head of the Makrosian religion.

Amount of civil servants were limited as the king directed his kingdom in an indirect way, supporting himself through local magistrates with whom he was constantly communicates with.

Succession was hereditary on the principle of the first born son.

· The Council:

The Council was a group of eight of the most eminent Macedonians, chosen by the king to assist him in the government of the kingdom. As such it was not a representative assembly, but notwithstanding that on certain occasions it could be expanded with the admission of representatives of the cities and of the civic corps of the kingdom.

The Council gathered often and represented the principal body of government of the kingdom. Major decisions taken by the king were subjected before the Council for deliberation.

Inside the Council ruled the democratic principles of equality of word and of freedom of speech, to which even the king had to keep.

What distinguishes Makrosia from the rest?

Firstly, its government and way of rule is very different than the rest of the City States. As such they can often hear remarks about them from the other Hellyni saying that the Makrosians are not actually Hellyni which is incorrect.

Secondly, Makrosia is distinguished by its obsession with technological development. Attika may brag of being the first to take the step in terms of technological development but Makrosia is by far the dominant force in terms of technology currently.

Furthermore, Makrosians are known for their incomparable discipline in all aspects of life. In terms of war, if Attikans fight with strategy, while Spathians with strength, Makrosians fight with unbreakable discipline which has saved their existence numerous times.

E M P O R I O

Traits:
  • · Cunning: Emporians were know for their unbelievable sharp and cunning mind. They are masters in weaving intrigue and tipping the balance of powers using their minds. This trait of theirs has saved them from obliteration considering they were located in between the two rival City States of Attika and Spathi.
  • · Honey dipped tongues: What is a trader without impressive social skills? Trading has been Emporians’ main profession and that they excelled. Considering finance, no one could beat them and they always were one of the wealthiest states during the long, long history of the Hellyni.
  • · Solely Words, not Swords: Emporians share the same weakness as their Attikan brothers – they are not warriors. Although to a more extreme level. Attikans have proven prowess in war, unlike the Emporians who levy most of their army on mercenaries. Yet, utilizing their strengths they have prevailed by creating Leagues to fend off aggression from the other City States. Their strategic location has also played a pivotal role, having a vast amount of the highly valued and needed lightsaber crystals.
  • · Greedy: As most traders, greed is something that goes along with the honey dipped tongue. Profit maximization has always been their target in life, which is expressed in their amazing and detailed architecture. Credits are most Emporians’ drive.

  • Political Structure:
Emporio’s political structure was simple – a rule of a consortium of the wealthiest traders in Emporio.

· The Consortium:
It is made up of the seven richest male citizens of Emporio. The end of every fiscal year, wealth is compared and those that make up the top seven make the new Consortium.
They are the ones that take major decisions – be it war or change of policies. The consortium also takes part in various religious festivals. Their focus has always been making Emporio the richest City State in Hora.

· The Assembly:

To prevent the Consortium for complete dominance over the citizens of Emporio, an Assembly of 350 men, randomly chosen by a lottery, gather to discuss and possibly dispute certain changes, along with demanding wants if any. The Assembly acts as a possible veto to any changes of policies the Consortium might commit that the masses do not accept. The process takes place as a voting amongst this 350 men with the rule of majority being the principle of the voting process.

“What doesn’t work with credits, works with more credits.”
-Emporian saying

What distinguishes Emporio from the rest?

It is the only City State in which wealth elects the ruling body of the Polis. Thus, Emporians tend to be hard working and goal-driven of becoming wealthier. They share a similar power hungry trait with the Makrosians and the ambitious trait of the Attikans.

Emporio is considered the most beautiful and organized City State amongst the Four Great Poleis. Their people are very proud of their heritage and often feel like bragging about the magnificence of Emporio. They are highly competitive with the Attikans, although siding almost always with the Attikans in their wars with the Spathians.

The Emporians are shunned by the Spathians and tend to be friendly with Makrosians, opposing Attikans and Spathians’ prejudice over the Markosians.

Emporians are also masters of the craft, they have been trading off-world highly valued and well crafted jewelry and figurines. They, along with the Attikans, are more open to outlanders.

History: This section will be expanded greatly when I have the time to write it down but as of now I simply want it submitted. When I am ready with its complete version of History, I will utilize the submission modification option. (Caprine, you’re not forgotten).
The Hellyni play an important part in the shaping of the Galactic Republic’s model, system and values. Their role in forming the Galactic Republic is motivated in their goal to abolish Infinite Empire’s rules over Hora. Unfortunately with the destruction of the Infinite Empire, all coordinates of the Hellyni planet were destroyed and Hellynic diaspora remained out of its home for thousands of years.

For thousands of years, the Hellyni developed on their own until around the time of the Mandalorian Wars were they found by Republican explorers and cartographers. With the opportunity to join the Republic, the Hellyni divided into those that were pro-Republic and those that were anti-Republic, once again throwing themselves into yet another civil war. Without the Republic’s support, due to putting all resources in the war against the Mandalorian crusaders, the pro-Republic faction lost.
The only positive outcome was that the Hellyni were once again open to the wide galaxy.

Their rich of lightsaber crystals and agriculture planet of Hora boosted trade between the City States and other factions such as the Galactic Republic itself. This trade enriched the Hellyni who went on yet another colonization spree of the surrounding planets – this time successfully.

As the Hellynic City States expanded out of their planet, so did their strength grow. Yet after the so-called Great Colonization period, immediately followed series of civil wars that helped subjugated planets escape Hellynic rule.

The Hellyni’s next few thousand years were monotonous – colonization and civil wars. Proponents of uniting the Hellyni and putting them as a part of the Galactic Republic were quickly demotivated when the Galactic Republic itself fell and turned into a Galactic Empire.

The Galactic Empire immediately turned its direction of securing the great Hellyn shipyards and their land rich of lightsaber crystals and agriculture. The Empire’s rule was brutal on Hora due to the population’s high amount of Force sensitive people and their utilization of lightsaber weaponry.

Being under Galactic Empire rule for a few decades grew enough disdain amongst the Hellyni for any galactic governments and thus, despite the Empire’s fall and transformation into a Republic once again, there were no proponents of joining any galactic government at all.

The Hellyni colonized neighboring planets and entered a period called the Golden Age. All the City States thrived, despite civil wars being common, until the Gulag plague which threw the whole galaxy into the 400-year darkness. Hellynic colonies were lost, City States’ great growth and progress halted. Population declined immensely due to the plague.

Coming out of the 400-year old darkness, the Hellyni, pioneers as always, immediately stepped back on their feet and progress continued once again, yet incomparable to the rate of growth that was recorded during the Golden Age.

During the Dark Harvest of 836 ABY, all Hellynic states had closed access to their homeworld of Hora to any off-worlders. The news of the rising dead were spread by a party of Emporian traders. Until the end of the Dark Harvest, the City States were in a recession due to closing down every connection with the wider galaxy.

During what is perceived by Galactic Historians - the Netherworld, due to Hellyni's great attonement to the Force, their homeworld of Hora is shook by earthquakes constantly while vegetation rots and animals produce 10% of what they usually produce leading to a famine. The famine massacred the population of the Hellyni, recording a 15% of population due to the famine and mysterious disappearances. When this cataclysm had finished, the City States aimed quickly to start progressing again, now even slower than at the end of the 400-year old Darkness.

Notable Player-Characters: Aris II

Intent:

Firstly, give an option to everyone to feel Greek in Star Wars.

Secondly, to bring the Ancient Greeks in Star Wars. Since there are Viking concepts and Samurai concepts already approved, I believe this would be a good addition to the lore of SWRP: Chaos. Furthermore, I’d like to have Aris II (my character) more distinguishable amongst others and give him more options in character development.

Least but not least I aim to incorporate this and enrich it via RP by the creation of various events that other characters can participate and manipulate the direction this species goes. An example can be seen when I noted my plan earlier on bringing Women Rights to this species via RP. I do not want this species to be simply static as many others are, for the sake of just giving backgrounds to characters, but to make it dynamic and interactive for all writers to be able to guide this species’ future. (Hopefully not lead to its utter obliteration but that happens too in the galaxy.)

Alright just to give you a heads up, this application is going to need some substantial edits but all in all it was well done. That being said, here we go:

"Breathes: Human type of atmosphere, although Hellyni are more resistant to smog from fire or other tear bringing and suffocating gases depending on their strength. For example, an average human will find it hard to be amongst thick smoke made by fire without proper gear, a Hellyni can withstand such situations up to 15-20 minutes. Any time longer they will succumb to the same effects as Humans do when exposed to such medium."
-This is a strength and should be listed as such.

"Lightsaber Weapons Expertise: This is classed as neutral due to it being simply a feat. Hellyni have utilized lightsaber weapons since their existence. This is mainly due to their homeworld being rich with lightsaber crystals. As such, lightsaber weapons in Hellynic society are not something that needs some special skill as it is commonly perceived in the wider galaxy. Such weapons are perceived as how vibroswords are perceived in the galaxy – you just need training."
-This is a no no. Either it is a strength or it's not, listing it in neutral is subverting the idea that in a fight between one npc and another, this species would have a slight advantage.

"Strong but erratic in the Force: Hellyni are mostly Force Sensitive and they tend to have much greater potential in the Force than Humans. Not all Force Sensitive though and this is classified as neutral due to the fact that here has never been an order that taught the Force, it was simply acknowledged as blessing. As such, Hellyni force users, if wanting to develop their great potential, had to go off-world and pursue a place where they could be taught."
-This is a strength as well. Whether they have to go off world is simply a logistical issue. The fact remains that the species is stronger than average in the force.

"Immune to Mind-altering effects: Over their long span of existence, for a reason yet to be found, Hellyni are immune to powers that affect their mind. A simple example is that the use of Force Mind Trick on a Hellyn will be useless."[/qupte]

-Every strength that can positively impact RP in a PVP setting, it needs a counter weakness to offset it. Personality weaknesses don't really count towards this.

-You have strengths and weaknesses spread out throughout each subfaction, I need all of these isolated into one area.

"The Hellyni play an important part in the shaping of the Galactic Republic’s model, system and values. This occurs prior to the destruction of the Infinite Empire while the Hellyni are still enslaved under the Rakatans. Their role in forming the Galactic Republic is motivated in their goal to abolish Infinite Empire’s rules over Hora. Unfortunately with the destruction of the Infinite Empire, all coordinates of the Hellyni planet were destroyed."
-The issue with this is that the Infinite Empire was dissolved in 25,200 BBY, and the Unification Wars that led to the formation of the Republic officially happened in 25,053 BBY. So if their coordinates were destroyed in 25,200 then how did they have a role in the global stage?

-For your history you've mentioned the Gulag Plague and the darkness which is good, but I also need Netherworld and the other board events mentioned as well.

  • Removed the smoke breathing thing totally
  • Both Neutrals that were mentioned have been moved as a strength
  • Added high metabolism weakness to counter immunity to mind-altering effects
  • History changed

Regarding the strengths and weaknessess at the sub-factions, I was wrong at the wording. I have edited to traits as that is their main objetive, so people could see the difference between the City States. These are nor strengths nor weaknessess, as for example my character - Aris II - is an Attikan but is an absolute caveman with naval operations. The traits are there to give people who want to make a character better picture of what one City State is and what the other.

Thank you!

Alright for the high metabolism I need you to be more specific as being well fed I don't believe is something will come into play in a PvP setting as an immunity to mental force abilites will. Unless of course they have difficulty in prolonged combat, and thus tend to be lower stamina warriors?

I'm in two minds about this. On the one hand I do like a good reimaging of things. After all, that's what I've done with several of my submissions.

On the other hand, this is virtually a book about Classical Hellenism with the names changed. I won't ask you to change it, but keep in mind that it is better to reference than outright copy.

However, one thing this submission does not have is clear weaknesses. Considering they have lightsabres, are immune to mental effects and are strong in the Force, the weaknesses are quite poor, poison not withstanding.

I would like you to come up with a physical or more tangible mental weakness before I pass this. I am open to suggestions.

I found it close to impossible shifting back and forth with being more creative on this concept, every little shift I could come up with you looked as if the whole concept would be lost. Emporio is probably the more changed city state rather than the rest. The aim of not making it a book of Classical Hellenism seemed as it would decapitate its whole concept, as earlier stated which would make me feel as if I have not done it right, considering the fact Hellenic City States were not the only City States to exist in our history - you've got Phoenicians, Italians and etc, you know this as I've judged you quite good at history you're a damn historian :D ... and every change I might've done would've shifted me towards one of those directions which I do not want. I hope you understand what I am trying to prove.

Regarding the reference, I get where you're coming from. Most of the things, though, are what I remember learning back in school and what my parents have told me about with refreshment from good ol' Wiki and a couple of academic and non-academic sources. If you're keen on me putting references, I will gladly comply.

Regarding the weakness, I've never fully understood the idea that lightsabers are that much of a strength to be considered. I argue this due to the fact that there's tons of technology canon and custom ones made in the Factory that compeletely obliterate the strength of the lightsaber. Be it armor or weapons, such technologies just need characters who can pull a trigger or be 'dressed for the occassion' if you get what I mean. Yet, you're the judge on this and if you feel like having an additional weakness up there is what is right, I have no choice than to comply. Your call.

The lightsabres are probably the least concerning of the strengths. Only those trained in the Force can use them to the fullest anyway.

I would like an extra weakness of some form. Nothing too extreme.

I like your explanation on the parallels so no changes needed there.

Put up high metabolism up there, see what you think about it, is it okay ?

You need to train Aris. He needs to acquire a very particular set of skills. >.>

Thank you!

OK, I think I can go with this sub now. You've put in a lot of effort, and I want to reward that. A reminder to play this sensibly.

As for training, we'll see, I don't think there's enough lekku.

Approved.
