The Healing of Kalevala [Mandalorians]

Zelen

Aliit ori'shya tal'din
Zelen was quickly directed to her sister. The young warrior had no station within the ranks, but her older sibling did. Not that their Clan affiliation was ever going to give Zelen any advantage – she knew that. You earned respect, it was never simply given. And you never achieved anything hanging on the shirt-tails of another.

The young warrior took the mead and glanced around. She was only just a teenager, but she was not intimidated. Surviving alone before she was adopted had hardened her – and her training subsequently polished her rough edges, but took away nothing of the spark and determination that was within her.

She acknowledged each of those present with courtesy – as befitted their status.

She grabbed a chair and was not hungry, but to refuse might be considered an insult, so she looked over the spread and helped herself to a few morsels. There was a time, not so long ago, when she would have eaten as much as she could – years of never knowing where the next meal would be coming from did that to a person. But training taught her patience and strengthened her resolve.

Aware she had effectively interrupted a meeting, Zelen sat quietly. She would speak if it was appropriate, but never saw the value of speaking just to hear the sound of her own voice.

But, of course, she gave her still juvenile tones to the drinking chant and downed her mead along with the others. Her body was that of a thirteen-year-old and her mind was some years ahead of that. But her liver was potentially twice the age of the rest of her body!
