Private The Genteel Jedi

The words bounced around in her mind for a moment. When was the last time she'd helped anyone but herself? Perhaps, it was time to put her selfish ways to rest. It wouldn't be a simple change, nor would it happen overnight. She'd been born into this life, she knew nothing else. Her parents put ideas into her head, life ought to be lived a certain way. But now, she felt rather silly. And for the first time, the revelation hit her... she knew nothing.

With a sigh, she settled cross-legged on the ground.

“What?” Seva blinked, eyes widening when Barrien named her next task. Her mouth dropped open to counter him, to explain that such things could not be done. But he'd just said... size matters not, only will. Was it true?

“Very well, then... I'll try,” she said, trying to keep an open mind. Breathing steadily, she scrunched her brow at Baron Siegfried. It felt... odd, so she closed her eyes. Seva could now feel his presence within the meadow, it happened faster this time. His heartbeat sent a slight pulse into the air—the force—and there was a palpable aura of calm power emanating from him.

Gently, she held her palm out to face him. It was a move of pure instinct; she didn't even think about it. And as she concentrated on her task and fell into the surrounding force, the Baron's tall form lifted off the ground.

Well, at least she had agreed to try. That was a start. He'd half expected her to berate him about how such an idea was preposterous and impossible. Instead, she settled cross-legged, closed her eyes, qnd concentrated on the task. Her efforts were not in vain. As her hand stretched out towards him he could tell that she was channeling the Force effectively through her hand as many users of the Force, himself included, did. Then it was that he felt himself lift of the ground.

This was good progress. She had the ability to be a Jedi if she chose to continue down that path. He did hope that this training would not be in vain and that she would stay on the path of good rather than straying tk the path of evil. The door for the latter was open to her because of her upbringing and the obvious social call to be powerful and self-absorbes. It would be a difficult path for her and she would have to make the choice herself as to whether she remained on it or not. He would not be able to make such a choice for her.

What he did need to do was test her concentration and teach her that there were times she would have to do difficult tasks under pressure.

To demonstrate this, he reached through the Force to her mind as she held him above the ground. The intent was simple: he would probe at her mind and try to distract her by pulling forth memories that she had pushed away in order to gain access to the Force. It would not be painful to her, as he wouldn't go for her bad memories like a Sith would, but it might be enough to distract her if she let it.

It was a night of many 'firsts.'

The young lady had her first midnight meeting, her first brush with the force, and her first taste of failure. It was not an easy pill to swallow. But as she attempted to focus anew, she felt success at her fingertips as she continued to hold Baron Siegfried above the ground.

Quite a wonder it was, too, for she never knew such a thing was even possible.

Just when she felt that this task was easy, her brow furrowed. What was this? The flow of energy surrounding the Baron extended, it reached out for her—into her mind. At least that's what it felt like, but it was also a strange foreign feeling she could not even verbalize. Then, she began to 'see' memories forming in her mind. Could he see them too?

Such an intrusion! Had her hand not been outstretched as it was, she would have clutched the front of her blouse. But her stubborn sense of determination had kicked in. No, don't let him fall. The corner of her eye twitched with the effort, and Barrien likely wobbled in her grasp for a good moment or two.

But Seva held fast, keeping him aloft.

She responded well. There was a bit of waivering, at which point he was concerned about getting a sore backside, but she regained her composure all the same. It seemed that she was starting to really get a handle on her comnection to the Force, which was impressive. Something must have clicked in her mind. Part of him wanted to explore while he was inside and figure out her motivation, but thay wasn't an appropriate use of his powers and he wasn't going to invade her privacy like that.

Instead, he thought of another simple way to test her.

Reaching through the Force, he grabbed a bunch of pebbles and other small debtis from the field around them. None of them were overly large. He sized what he picked up so he wouldn't cause undu harm to her. When he had enough he began to pelt her with the pieces of debris in a way that was hard enough to sting, but not to leave a lasting mark. He didnt want to make her have to explain to her parents why she woke up the next morning with a bunch of welts or bruises.

Before Seva could completely regain her confidence, she felt a sudden sting against her skin. Then another, and another after that. Letting out a yelp, she felt the connection break again—and with it, Barrien dropped back down to solid ground. Her hands shot up to protect her face, palms braced against the bits of twigs and pebbles that came at her.

She stood to her feet in a bit of a huff.

Quickly, she brushed the front of her clothing off and plucked a twig from her tidy blonde locks. “W-what in the world was that?” Her eyes narrowed again, a harsh but inquisitive stare that demanded an answer. Was this yet another test? What exactly was pelting her with pebbles going to achieve?

She could always storm back home—the thought had occurred—but she remained.

He landed with a resounding thid, his backside stinging just a little. It wasn't as if he were expecting her to hold him up forever, but he had hoped for a much gentler landing. That said, despite her dropping him she had done well, for the most part. Her biggest shortcoming still seemed to be her disposition. It would be a challenge to get her to see that she couldn't always expect to be treated as a posh dignitary. Life for a Jedi rarely allowed that comfort.

At least she hadn't run off in a huff.

"A Jedi's life is not an easy one," he said, not moving from where he was seated. "There are times where you will be called to such actions while others are doing far worse than throwing small stones at you. If you can maintain your concentration in such times it will be advantageous for you."

He motioned for her to sit again.

"You did very well, but you must learn to control your emotions, not let them control you. Can you do that?"
