The Gates of Tartarus

Introduction

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fIZXXicprBM

What if they threw a war and everyone came?

System SX-192 – Codename Tartarus

In reaction to the threat of the Contingency fleet, the powers of the galaxy had assembled their full strength and now prepared to attack the Incursion head on.
In order to allow land forces and strike-teams to land, the Contingency fleet had to be drawn out into battle.

As the fleets entered the system they found the Contingency was ready for them. A huge fleet issued from every dock, base and hideout and formed up to face the attacking enemy. The fleet was massive, and led by a truly colossal ship, the largest currently active in the galaxy. It was time to fight.

Thread Rules
There is nothing stopping you firing on other factions as well as the Contingency.

Each group may start in any thread within their marked area and move from there in their first round.

Please carefully read this thread for selection criteria. The rules from that thread are included below.

There are no rules for taking damage. That is entirely in the hands of the writer.
As the commander of the NPC forces, I will be using a system to determine damage fairly and consistently, but that is not required for anyone else at all.

For consistency there are rules concerning movement. Your ships can move a number of hexes on the map correlating to their size and speed ratings.

Class Base Speed
Flagship 2
Battlecruiser 3
Destroyer 4
Cruiser 5
Frigate 6
Corvette 7
Attack Craft 8

Ships with a LOW or VERY LOW speed move one less than this. Ships with a HIGH or VERY HIGH speed move one more hex than this. Ships with EXTREME speed move two more hexes than this.

Thus, an extreme speed corvette moves 9 hexes per turn, a low speed Destroyer moves 3 hexes, and an extreme speed battlecruiser moves at 5 hexes.

There are no rules concerning turns, but absurd moves such as a slow battlecruiser turning 180 degrees in a turn will be nixed. Common sense prevails in these cases.

As GM, this writer reserves the right to ask writers to re-examine and fix clearly overpowered or unfair resolutions, such as taking no damage from a full volley of a Star Destroyer as a low defence cruiser.

Additionally, some general conventions and assumptions for the fleeting based on practicality and uniformity are included below:
 • A ship must fire on a single target with all its weapons. Dividing fire is a nightmare for everyone.
 • Regular weapons have a range of 10 hexes. Long range weapons have a range of 15 hexes.
 • Shields must be completely removed before hull damage is taken. The only exception to this is attack craft bombing/strafing. That damages the hull and not the shields.
 • A ship’s length will stand in for their health, and will be represented by this number for the shields and hull. For instance a ship which is 750m long will start with 750/750 at full health.
 • Shields are assumed to recover 10% each round they are not fired on. Thus, the ship above will recover 75 shields each round it is not fired on. Hull damage cannot be repaired during the battle.
Of these, only the two will be enforced. Ships can only fire on one target at a time because it will be impossible to accurately rationalise results otherwise. Ships have a maximum range to make long ranged weapons do something special.

Victory
Victory is achieved by destroying enemy ships. The metres of ships destroyed in this way count towards your faction’s total. The highest will win.

Most importantly of all, we will be rewarding players who take worthwhile hits, lose ships fairly and act in the interest of story. We will not be rewarding meta gaming and nonsense.

Enemies: Contingency [member="Incursion"]

"The SIS reports that the droids involved in the Cardea Medical Center fiasco report to a facility on Tartarus" the intelligence officer told the white Twi'lek.

"This enemy is not at all like the Rogue One Sith: the ROS has different methods. Whereas the Rogue One Sith wanted to destroy planets, here they want to kill organics but leave planets in usable condition" Tanith pitched in.

"Now is not the time for pleasantries. Carmen is going to stay behind and protect Sullust while we go out and lead the assault on the enemy capital. May the Force be with us all"

"The Alliance High Command approves of this plan. However, each of the major GA fleets can only contribute a subset, so choose your force wisely" the intelligence officer continued.

"We must also bring medvac in tow; however, medvac has to stay out of the engagement zone. This operation assumes heavy casualties, we need to bring as many of the dead or wounded back as we can. Medvac must stay at the edge of the system until called for"

The Cardea Medical Center fiasco was being resolved, but information revealed by downed droids indicated that the Contingency's capital was on Tartarus. And so the GADF assumed that defeating the Contingency would require capturing the planet, and hopefully this truce with the First Order will be fruitful, if only until the Incursion crisis abated. Their orders were to provide a distraction for the GADF ground forces, supported by NJO elements, to carry out their duty on Tartarus: leading the assault on the Contingency's capital. Of course Cathul knew that this operation was akin to attacking the First Order's capital, in terms of casualties, and the medvac would have to stay the hell away from orbital combat zones. Or even Operation Blackout. Meanwhile, the fast bombers were being loaded heavy Deathball proton bombs, to the tune of two apiece, expecting low survivability. Tensions run high all across the ships used for this engagement, and the fate of the galaxy depended on the success or failure of this operation. Capturing Tartarus was important, crucial even, to the galaxy's security, and the brave men and women of the Alliance knew it, from the command-level personnel down to the individual crewman.

"Admiral, this is it, all units are in position"

"All units, set course for Tartarus, and jump to hyperspace, on the double! Set condition red across the fleet"

So Cathul sat in the piloting station of the Excubitor, now fully repaired from its last sortie in the Ison Corridor, where she would simply run the topology calculations in her head to get to Tartarus from Sullust; she knew it was where the fate of the galaxy hangs in the balance. A few hours later, they were the first on the scene, they were able to take up positions first, where a sizable fleet awaited them, and where she waited to form up with the others. Alliance, Silvers, Iron Empire, ORC, Metal Lords... they, too, must contribute to the greater war effort. And it was quiet, too quiet for their own good. The main enemy battlefleet hasn't been arrayed just yet, but upon seeing all the other fleets arriving, they will come up. For now, anyway, the plan is to stay back behind the cover of whatever enemy fleets there are, if there are other fleets better suited for tanking; unlike what she had to endure against the First Order, where the enemy would concentrate on her, it would be nice for a change not to be the one the enemy fires at. Provided the other allied fleets would actually be in front of her and she could remain aback so as to snipe and chip away at whatever the enemy will throw at them, also sending in squadrons to hit enemies that come in too close.

Geonosis

The final preparations were at hand. The Confederacy had finally pinpointed the location of the main fleet of the metallic menace the Contingency. Nations all over the galaxy were preparing to send their fleets to do battle with their one common enemy, and the Confederacy was doing just the same. Zahori Denko has been tasked with leading the Confederate fleet against the Contingency. She had not expected such a big responsibility this soon, but she accepted it with pride nonetheless. The Confederacy chartered several warships for the upcoming battle. Zahori was given the privilege of commanding The Serenity, the Daoshim-class battlecruiser and flagship of the Confederacy. Several other capital ships will follow The Serenity into battle. The combined might of these capital ships would surely punch a massive hole in the Contingency's fleet.

Zahori was aboard The Serenity as the fleet was being loaded with troops, weapons, ammunition, and other necessary requisitions. She refused to leave until preparations were 100% complete. Zahori was looking over a datapad detailing the specs of the ships in her fleet as she formulated a strategy in her head of how she would proceed. A tactical droid walked up to Zahori and saluted her before speaking. "Captain Denko. We've completed loading all the cargo onto the ships. We are prepared to enter hyperspace. The coordinates we were provided will lead us to an unknown system. Reports say that there'll be no planetary systems or anything of the sort in the area. Only the Contingency fleet and our allies. We proceed on your orders." Zahori looked out of the viewport of the bridge of The Serenity as the sun set on Geonosis' horizon. "Prepare for launch. We leave in 20 minutes." Zahori commanded. The droid saluted and left the bridge. Zahori hadn't participated in such a major conflict such as this one before, but she still felt as though she was prepared for such. She returned her eyes to the datapad and looked over reports of the Incursion's combat tactics.

- 15 minutes later -

The Confederate fleet began to fire up their engines. Each vessel roared as it had awoken from their slumber. The time had come to commence Operation: Blacklight. Zahori tuned in to the frequency so that her voice could be heard throughout all of the ships in her fleet. "This is Captain Zahori Denko of The Serenity." she chimed in, "We are headed directly to the heart of the Contingency fleet. They have become too much of an issue to ignore. The wrath of the Viceprex is known far and wide, yet the Incursion is ignorant. We will teach them, though. That we shall. The combined might of our fleet with our allies are a serious force to be reckoned with. One that the Incursion has failed to realize. Remember: we are soldiers of the Confederacy. We do not submit, we do not fear, and we do not fail. All ships...launch." The engines of each shipped fired up, igniting as the fleet began taking off, breaking through the atmosphere and entering space. Not long after, the Confederate fleet entered hyperspace, aiming for the provided coordinates.

______________________________________________________
The Confederate fleet exited hyperspace at their intended exit point in all their glory. The Serenity sailed at the center of the fleet, surrounded by it's sister ships who stood at the ready. Zahori sat in the captain's chair as a holomap of the battlefield was pulled up. Zahori looked over the Contingency ships at the far side of the battlefield, taking note of their numbers and size. "We'll wait for the others to join us before we engage. For now, ensure that the Vulture droids are ready to launch. We'll take our time here. No reason to rush this." Zahori commanded. "Roger, roger." a droid replied. The Confederacy Fleet began to move forward while staying in it's formation.

BATTLEGROUP HELLSTROM

Fiolette had been told of the First Order's decisive victory at Castameer while en route back to Dosuun. Her niece the Grand Moff [member="Natasi Fortan"] had relayed this to her as she laid in the hospital ship Hippocrates. They had done it, they had defeated the Rogue One Sith as the Druckenwell maintained the attention of the main device the First Order and her allies, crippled what had been left of the Sith Navy. Two years had passed since then and the First Order had grown by leaps and bounds, and now here they were again. Again she would serve beside [member="Carlyle Rausgeber"] and [member="Cyrus Tregessar"] and with them would be several new commanders. Nevertheless, she had faith that they would once again, save the Galaxy. Only this time she wondered if they would be met with the same amount of scorn as they did last time or perhaps with a little more praise?

"Petty Officer Drucath, yes, please take this cup back, and bring me a proper cup of Galidraani tea."

It wasn't difficult, the tea she thought. "Captain Wilhuff please ensure that our fleet is notified of our arrival. We've acquired our position, inform them of fleet movements from these coordinates."

"Of course, Admiral." Wilhuff acknowledged, the man just wished that the new Galidraan stations would hurry up. The sooner they were built the sooner, the Admiral got her precious Warspite back and the sooner he could be rid of her and breathe in peace again.

She did not care for what he wanted, her hands clasped at her back as she headed up to Forward Operations. Charcoal colored uniform anchored by the clouded color of her rank, lined in a simple off silver to remind everyone of who she was. Just as the sound of her boots tapped against the durasteel floor, a shadow drew across the others as she passed by. "We revert to realspace in sixty seconds, brace yourself." Whispered the young Ensign Farrah.

In the instant that it happened, the Grand Admiral wondered if she would survive the day, as she last recalled that in the last big engagement the woman nearly lost her life. Memories of that day often haunted her, but then, if they didn't she have to question her humanity. Humanity, human, what did that mean she wondered and sighed. "Escort lines deploy, I want cruisers on the back keeping our rear and the smaller attack line on the front."

"Yes, ma'am." Wilhuff acknowledged and ordered, "Farrah."

"Alerting the Battlegroup now," Farrah reported, and waited a few moments before she reported, "done, fleet's moving into position."

"I'm sorry, sir?"

"I said you won't be reporting to anyone for this one," answered Supreme Commander Nemo Ven, "I'm promoting you to acting Vice Admiral and placing you in direct command of elements of the 5th. You'll be coordinating with Admirals Thuku and Morrow whom you've served with before, as well as a coalition of allied forces on what we're calling Operation Faraday. Assess, contain, and neutralize. They struck at what we cherish most, now go make them regret it."

"Yes, sir!" Zark said a little too loudly after a few seconds of stunned silence, "Thank you, sir."

"Detailed orders will be provided on the shuttle to the Hereafter for your perusal," the Mon Calamari shooed him away, "You jump within the hour. Dismissed."

The stunned Jedi was halfway out of the uncomfortably humid office when Ven called out his name and he turned around.

"May the Force be with you," the Supreme Commander's voice was solemn.

Zark nodded in silent thanks, and headed out of the office and towards the turbolift that would take him down to the hangar deck and his awaiting shuttle.

"Admiral on the bridge!" Commander Bashir called out, smiling the first smile he had seen since the Mon Cal had lost an eye in the Ison Corridor to let him know just how much pleasure his executive officer was getting out of seeing Zark's discomfort at his newfound promotion, "We'll be dropping out of hyperspace shortly, sir."

"Very good, Commander. I have the con," already gazing at the holodisplay center of the room before him, the Alliance admiral ordered, "All ships prepare to raise shields. And make sure our sensors are aligned to register our...newfound allies as friendlies. We don't want any misunderstandings."

When Zark had learned that they would be fighting alongside the Iron Imperial Navy, he had been surprised to say the least. But then, intergalactic crises made for strange acquaintances.

"Reversion in three...two...one..."

The Citadel-class Star Carrier exploded back into real space, and the other ships of the 5th Expeditionary blinked into existence all around them. The holodisplay, which before had only contained the projected positions of the rest of the task force, now autoscaled to match their surroundings in space, and for the first time the crew of the Hereafter took in the sheer size of the Incursion fleet arrayed before them as their signatures were displayed as miniature three dimensional representations. Not a soul broke discipline, but the vice admiral did not have to be a Jedi to know that the air had just gone out of the room.

"Massive robot fleet, seemingly insurmountable odds," Zark mused loudly to himself, "Probably some sort of doomsday weapon type scenario? Alright boys, lets go save the galaxy. Fighters are go for launch. Shields up, give me full sublight."

Squadron upon squadron poured from the star carrier's massive hangars, like a cloud of buzzing insects around the capital ship's vertical towers. Alongside it, the Valor-class carrier ANS Mercy likewise disgorged her considerable complement, the mass of attack craft forming up into a defensive screen between the fastest Alliance capitals and what would soon likely be a lot of incoming fire. Smaller corvettes as well as a Nebulon frigate fell into formation around the larger cruisers of the line, whereas behind the Scythes and the Vekker, the two Citadel star defenders made their ponderous way forward escorted by an old Dreadnought Mark III. Between these two groups, the task force's Valor carrier stood ready to carry out emergency repair operations should the need arise.

Still out of range of the enemy line for now, turbolaser operators all throughout the Alliance fleet began picking their targets as starfighter pilots prepared for the inevitable wave of enemy interceptors.

Decker heard the sirens blaring. They were about to enter into combat, with the rest of the alliance fleet. The Mynock Rock, along with the rest of Mynock Squadron had gotten repairs and additional squadmates to 'replace' those lost. He didn't want to think about it, since those lost had been childhood friends. All of Mynock Squadron had been built up from a childhood dream. And he aimed to carry on, just for that.

With helmet hooked under his shoulder, he ran down the central corridor of the corvette as he felt it pull out of hyperspace. Through the intercom in the ship, the captain announced their arrival. Decker climbed into his T-70 X-Wing and pulled out of the hangar of the corvette, seeing other Alliance ships coming in on the scopes and within his physical view. This was the biggest operation he had ever been a part of. And, deep in his gut, he knew that it would not go down well. There would be losses, that was something he felt. Forming up with the rest of Mynock, they headed forward to where all other deployed fighters of the fleet would be.

"Mynock Squadron, check in." The other members checked in numerical order. Some of the voices he was still getting used to, the new members. "This is Mynock Lead, we've arrived and are moving into position. Orders?" he asked out to whomever was in charge. He didn't really know who was in charge in this operation. Looking at all the ships, he had to admit that he was a bit afraid of the scale of this battle.

"Mynock Squadron, forward deflectors up" he ordered. "Make sure to keep the formation tight."

So the die had been cast. Rausgeber lamented to himself what this all meant. The chaos over Alexandria, the recent return he had experienced after the Battle of Ossus had meant he hadn't had much time to himself. War weary and bitter, Rausgeber was dispatched with the 658th Battlegroup, call sign "Imperator" to track down this supposed Contingency, and bring and end to their chaos. He was somewhat concerned about the extensiveness of the First Order task force sent to snuff out this threat, but the Fleet Admiral rationalised it. There would be no second chances. Unlike the Galactic Republic and Alliance's inability to snuff out the One Sith, which lead to the Omega debacle, Carlyle knew that Central Command and Supreme Leader took no half measures.

The gargantuan, Resurgent-II Class Star Destroyer, Conqueror reverted from lightspeed with a jolt. Carlyle was already met with the sight of the FIV Vindicator, a welcome sight to be sure. "Status check." Carlyle barked to the crewmen huddled below. As the officers, ranging from Comms, to Scanning, to Engineering gave status reports, Carlyle reached into his tunic, and pulled a cigar, delicately, he placed it between his teeth, and chewed on it. The taste of dried paper afflicted his whole tongue with its bland, almost offensive texture.

Carlyle fumbled with the lighter, but clasped it, igniting the flame, and singing the end of the brown roll. The intoxicating aroma filled his lungs and put the senior officer at ease. As the roll call stopped, Rausgeber's deputy, Commodore Gaspard Bode stepped forward, attired in his classical black greatcoat, and cap. "Admiral Rausgeber," The Commodore began, "Our fleet is in prime position, and all systems are ready and accounted for. Grand Admiral Yvarro has taken up her positon."

"Good," Carlyle mused, "Good," He paused, as his eyes gazed over the battlefield. He noted a second fleet in the distance, off the starboard side. He was not able to make out the precise models at this distance, but they seemed somewhat familiar, "Those ships over there," Carlyle coldly began, "Someone, tell me who they belong to." He snapped, taking a drag, and blowing out toxic smoke like a volcano.

"Therapy Command, sir." The Scanning Officer informed Rausgeber. Immediately, Carlyle's eyes narrowed at the fleet. Therapy Command, were they to be the Galactic Alliance's sole compliment of vessels entering the fray? He paused, perhaps it wouldn't be Thuku in charge. In all honesty, who would want a schizophrenic Twi'lek in charge of anything. However, Carlyle lamented they would not be dealing with the Galactic Alliance war criminal. Obviously, at least in the mind of the First Order's officers, Thuku was most likely dead, probably executed for gross incompetence. Hopefully the useful idiot they replaced Thuku with was more compliant.

"Additionally, we have CIS vessels to our starboard." The Scanning Officer added, watching Carlyle's reaction carefully. The Fleet Admiral stood quietly by, watching the data read out. The Confederacy of Independent Systems were not a group Rausgeber was acquainted with too well. The Admiral had heard of a new regime being established near Imperial space, but did not know much more than that. Carlyle imagined that this would be a defining moment in their history. One which would hopefully establish the Confederacy.

"This changes nothing." Carlyle informed the junior officer, "Send a transmission to Fleet Admiral Yvarro," Carlyle coolly commanded, "Tell her, Battlegroup Imperator has arrived, and awaits her further instruction."

Contingency
[member="Incursion"]

The Contingency assault on Sullust had been a surgical strike with pure mayhem in mind. Alexandra Morrow remembered the sight of it when she dropped Argent Dawn into the system to provide crews for rescue and recovery operations. It had been truly sobering. The dome floating above the Jedi Temple had gone down, and the loss of life, while mitigated by the actions of several Jedi Masters, had still been staggering. Even worse, however, was the damage to the medical station in orbit of Sullust. That would require months to replace circuitry throughout the whole station just to bring systems back online. The loss of life there had made Alexandra nearly lose the contents of her stomach. A medical station was one of the places that should be secure and safe, a place for people to recover from injuries. The worst fact was, though, that the majority of the damage hadn't been caused by the droids of this mysterious new threat. No, Admiral Thuku had decided that defense of the station required the wide spread use of EMP weapons, which had brought down system after system. Hundreds of lives had been lost, and those lives quite likely sat squarely in Cathul's lap.

But the aftermath of that was something for a different day.

Now, they were en route to where intelligence pointed the main portion of the Contingency Fleet was. The mobilization for this threat had been chilling, as entire systems had been emptied of patrols to fill out the fleets. There was still a sizable portion of the Defense Fleet protecting the Alliance, as trust between them and their most recent enemies wasn't quite where parties on both sides wanted it to be. High Command had decided that it was best to keep a major portion home in case the First Order tried to catch them with their pants down. Or the Galactic Empire tried the same. Or the Sith Empire.

"Ma'am, reverting to real space in five." Came the report from the astrogation station. Lexi nodded and closed her eyes. Her nerves were a bit strained. She'd taken a sabbatical after the peace process with the First Order started, needing to get herself back in a good mindset after the rounds of defeats laid at their feet. This was her first real sortie after that, she didn't count the anti piracy patrols as much more than target practice. The fact that they knew only a little about the enemy added to the strain.

She felt a ripple in her stomach as her fleet reverted to real space. Outside, a rip in reality spit out her fleet, formed around the bulk of the Argent Dawn. On the fleet command deck, activity flared up.

"Contacts to Port. Admirals Thuku and Zark. Commander Willo deployed behind Thuku." The nearest formations were always easiest to assess. "I'm picking up First Order and Confederate signals much farther out to port. Reading a heavy droid concentration far ahead at our 11'o'Clock roughly."

"Alright, deploy our assets, defensive formation alpha." She said, refraining from gritting her teeth at the red sunbursts far off to her port. She had com in on Zarks starboard side (01.03), and so had Therapy Command and a huge ton of space between her fleet and them. "What are Zark and Thuku doing?"

"Admiral Thuku is deploying where she reverted, while Zark is plunging ahead." The sensor officer reported.

"Any communication between our forces and the First Order?" She asked.

"Negative, Ma'am. It looks like everyone is sorting out still."

"Very well..." She took a deep breath and put her big girl pants on, mentally. "Move us to in line with Admiral Zark, and send a request to maintain line with us...those droids will eat us up if we go in piecemeal. Send another encoded message to Thuku to form up as well, and keep an eye on our flank, Willo's force as well. I wouldn't be surprised if we saw more people showing up, so we don't want to get too far ahead just yet."

Communications techs nodded, and began typing out encoded messages.

"Open up a channel to the First Order fleet and the Confederate fleet." She ordered.

"Ma'am, we don't have any shared encoding schemes with either government, it'll all be in the clear..."

"I know, but we can't go forward without reaching out to them. At the very least we need to make it clear just what we are after here."

"Aye, Ma'am...channel open."

"Commanding Officers of the Confederate and First Order Fleets. I am Fleet Admiral Alexandra Morrow of the Galactic Alliance." She started out formally, then showed a mildly relieved smile. "I'll go out on a limb and assume you've been attacked by these droids as well. I have to say, your timing is fortuitous, we can coordinate and defeat them." She paused for a moment, not wanting to jump ahead of herself. "The First Order and Galactic Alliance have fought many times in recent memory...for the moment, I hope you can join me in putting that behind us, as this threat is bigger than either of us can take on alone, no matter that your fleets and ours are strong on our own. I hope we can coordinate to some degree, but at the very least I wish we can ignore our hostilities of the past to focus on the menace right before us." She paused, then nodded to her communications officer, and sat back waiting for any response.

From the depths of Space, multiple battle lines of a Battlegroup already in formation escaped the hyperspace tunnels they used for transportation, and soon, they found themselves coming up alongside other Imperial vessels sharing First Order transponders and codes. Ranging from smallest to largest in terms of battle formations, it went from corvettes, to frigates, to cruisers and so on and so forth. The Tsawak reigned amidst the other ships within the Forsworn Battlegroup. Standing upon the bridge, at the head of a vast fleet, arguably the most powerful military figure in the Galaxy, the Supreme Commander of the First Order's arms remained clasped as his fleet's formation gradually slowed until moving past the other ships within formation.

"Who has arrived?"

"Fleet Admiral [member="Carlyle Rausgeber"] and Grand Admiral [member="Fiolette Yvarro"]." Two respected admirals within Central Command for their own reasons. Yvarro was a scorned Admiral, striving to wipe away the blemish on her record that was Anoat, today would be her best opportunity at doing so, he thought. She worked more in development of military stations, at least, currently... While... Rausgeber was a daring, albeit foolish old man, he happened to get results, despite having a record of requiring aid to do so.

Big ships and little else.

Eyes rolled behind his mask.

"Alliance transponders lighting up on our sensors, My Lord!"

So they've come as well.

"Fleet-wide broadcast," he started, unmoving from his all seeing position in the centre of the Bridge. Once he was given confirmation, the Supreme Commander's voice broke out, clear and as colder than the winters of Hoth. "Fleet Admiral Rausgeber, take the vanguard." It seemed to be his best suited role, he'd play to his subordinates strengths, especially if they were to win against their enemy today. "Grand Admiral Yvarro, hold the centre. You will not break." While he had part of the easternmost flank, she was already in position at the centre of the formation. Unnecessary to move her out of it. Should their other Grand Admiral made an appearance as well, then he'd likely has the westernmost according to the system-wide map that was splayed out before him.

"For Sieger - For the Order."

And then the transmission cut out.

"Incoming audio from... The Alliance!"

"Fleet Admiral Morrow," came the Sith Lord's voice as his own audio channel opened once again. "I am Supreme Commander A'sharad Graush of the First Order," cybernetic hand tapping against his metal thigh gently. The same coldness that existed in his voice continued to do so as he continued. "Victory will be awarded to us on this day again. The Rogue Sith of OMEGA broke before true Imperial Might and her Warmachine. The same for these mechanical abominations." The Sith Lord gazed off to the side before he strode the length of the bridge and to the Command Throne, Captain Atrisha standing beside it and her sulfuric yellow orbs watching him from her crimson face. "I assume you will make more of an effort today than your forces had then." With controls to the conversation rerouted back to the Command Throne, the Sith Lord cradled the command module in his hand... A helmet and he removed mask from face, the aurodium gilded helmet raising to hover above his head, hesitating before he submitted himself to the controls of the monstrosity that was the Tsawak's inner workings. "We will fight."

And when the helmet came down around his head, the open audio transmission closed, but soon after, after a moment of tensing as he adjusted to the painfully familiar feel of the Sith Warship, a new, encrypted channel was opening to the Argent Dawn. The Sith Lord's command ship acted as the source of the channel that linked to the rest of the Imperial Armada. More specifically, through A'sharad's own neural processes he would personally control what communications went through.

"And so we begin."

"...the only hope you have is to accept the fact that you're already dead, and the sooner you accept that, the sooner you'll be able to function as a soldier's supposed to function. Without mercy, without compassion, without remorse. All war depends on it."
~ Capt. R. Spiers, Band of Brothers

War was a reality. A harsh one at times, but to deny its existence was to succumb, it was to give up - surrender. None of those things were a part of who he was or a part of who he wanted to be. His eyes scanned the reports one last time, hoping to glean some secret piece of knowledge amidst the clutter and the chaos of that fated day within and above Alexandria. With a solemn eye he traced his finger across the datapad, the names of the fallen scrolling slowly across the dimmed screen.

:: Cadet S.J. Sanders, Cadet V. C. Davis, Cadet P. W. Walters, Cadet T.D. Jung.... ::
The list went on for pages, and for what? So many lives snuffed out, so many futures ended in the blink of an eye. The enemy had been upon them before they could even react, the FIV Swift had nearly been destroyed in the opening wave of attacks. That thought put a savage grin tracing across Commander Maxim's features. *They had tried, but they failed.* In fact, the FIV Swift was less than destroyed - it was under the command of Commander Maxim himself, a vital part of the small strike force he now commanded. Small was subjective. In reality it was the largest force he'd been given command of to date. He was confident.

The enemy they'd yet to identify seemed to be electrically based, their vessels slow but incredibly durable. Their fighters weren't quite as resilient but the sheer number that had assaulted them that day was near astronomical. With a sigh, Gerhard set the datapad down gently on the desk. They had arrived at their destination - now was the time to take action. He rose carefully, stepping out of his personal ready room onto the bridge of the FIV Bloodletter. His most recent command, an Inflictor II. It was a step up from the frigates he was used to commanding - it also packed a much larger and violent punch. As his footsteps took him towards the center of the bridge he began to issue his commands.

"Comm, get me a line to Command." He barked, looking to his XO he continued. "Gun crews at the ready, all systems report. I want the battlegroup ready to move at a moment's notice. Now is the time gentlemen."
As he reached the center of the bridge his eyes fell to the console before him, readouts and displays containing varying information the object of his attention. It seemed they'd all made the reversion successfully, though the FIV Singer was reporting a power fluctuation in their engines. Overall however, those were good odds. A voice cut through the sound of officers reporting and the low hum of the ship's systems.

"Sir, line open - encrypted channel set."
Commander Maxim gave a nod, reaching for the small earpiece attached to the console in front of him, slipping it over his left ear before gently depressing the button on its side. It appeared several of the other battlegroups had arrived before him.
:: Battlegroups Hellstrom, Imperator, and Forsworn. Chimera Actual reporting - Battlegroup Chimera moving to position now. Status is green across the board. ::
Short. Fast. To the point. Commander Maxim wasn't one to chat on the comm. If they wanted more information, they'd ask, it was simple as that. For now, he would continue to move his battlegroup into position. By the looks of it, commands were to shore up just beside Battlegroup Forsworn - commanded by none other than Supreme Commander Graush himself. *Excellent.* Wherever the Superme Commander was to be found there was sure to be conflict and promise of battle. Adjusting his comm to the rest of his battlegroup, he spoke quickly and clearly.

And then suddenly they were there.

Sensors on all ships present and arriving would detect a massive surge in signals. Eighty-Two separate ship signatures would be identified, ranging from small corvettes to a single, massive ship, the flagship of the Contingency.

It was a fleet similar in size and power to the one two years before at Castameer, but far more uniform. The fleet entered in three columns, each one identical…save for the centre where the massive flagship waited.

Each column moved forward in identical formation, a screening force of corvettes at the front, then a shield ship, and then behind it a serried mass of capital ships and escorts.

On board the Ruination, Diamond surveyed the fleets yet arrived.

Two Galactic Alliance fleets had pushed far forward ahead of their supports. This was noted.
“Malachite, destroy them,” Diamond commanded calmly, serenely. “Heliodor, maintain formation and we will engage when they approach.”

But which way would Diamond’s central Battlefleet turn? Would it turn towards the Iron Alliance and attempt to crush them, or move towards the more numerous Imperial Order ships? Only time would tell.

Empress Teta, Empress Teta System

"This is insane."

"Someone has to do it, Nadja."

"And that someone has to be you? You're the ruler of your people."

This back and forth had been going on for hours, ever since she'd made the announcement that she was leaving to join the newly formed alliance to wage war against the Contingency, and she had a feeling that Nadja wasn't going to stop trying to talk her out of it until the moment she was gone. Lily hadn't truly been pressured into the role, either, the scar from the blaster wound on her hip and the little soiree with a handful of others that led to a confrontation with them was far more a reason for her to enlist than some kind of civic duty to protect her people. "I am very aware that I am the Empress of Teta, Nadja, you needn't remind me of that every time I want to leave the system. If the Alliance doesn't defeat the Contingency, however, there will be no Empress Teta and my status will be a badge of cowardice. You should know, better than anyone, that I'm fully capable of doing this." Lily replied hotly, starting to show her frustration with the Keto heiress. They had been close friends ever since they met at the College of War on Anaxes, when the core was still controlled by the Sith, and Nadja had increasingly grown more and more protective of her friend ever since her coronation. "Then I'm coming with you." Nadja said stubbornly. There would be no arguing with her over this, once she set her mind on doing something there was little that could be done to persuade her otherwise.

"You are so difficult." She said, stepping into the shuttle.

"No different than you." Nadja retorted as she followed her in.

ANS Red Veil - Tartarus System

It wasn't the first time that Lily was in command of a vessel she hadn't designed, but it was the first time that she was in any kind of leadership role outside of her company and system. Even if she were to disregard the gravity of their fight with the Contingency, she still felt the pressure of heightened responsibility. "I want all ships to prepare to exit hyperspace, and keep us near the front - the closer we are to the enemy, the easier it will be to deploy assault craft on enemy lines once we have bridged that gap." She said, fingers running through her hair as she pulled it back and tied it up into a long ponytail. "Yes ma'am." Nadja said, having taken the place as communications officer on the ship. She took a moment to look over the rest of the bridge crew, only a fraction of the total crew that were hard at work getting into their positions for the naval engagement to come. Many aboard the ship, and indeed the rest of the fleet she was designated leadership over, were trained and experienced, but for many it would be the first time they had actually seen combat, or at least combat on this scale. "Patch me into the communications systems, I want this transmitted to each of our ships." Lily instructed, Nadja wordlessly doing exactly that with a nod of her head.

"Men and women of the Red fleet, we united under the banner of the Galactic Alliance to liberate our worlds from tyrannical despots and Sith Lords. We have fought tooth and nail to keep our freedom, to preserve that shred of hope which illuminates a promise of peace. Today we have banded together with others, with the Iron Empire and the Metal Lords and Silver Jedi Order, to push back against our would-be oppressors, not just to preserve our own homes but to preserve the entire galaxy."

"We are reverting from hyperspace in fifteen seconds, Lily." Nadja said quietly with a gesture of urgency as the Tetan paused towards the end of her speech.

"We may be many, but together we are one will united - defy this Contingency with me, and let us show them that our will cannot broken!"

She had, perhaps subconsciously, rose to her feet as she finished her speech. It was a spur of the moment thing, and she already felt the tinge of red blossom across her cheeks as they warmed. She glanced towards Nadja, who was smiling at her while gesturing for her to sit - they were only a second or two away from exiting hyperspace and emerging into realspace. "We are reverting from hyperspace, all crews please prepare to activate shields and man your stations." She said, letting out a sigh of relief as the bright smear of stars washed over the transparisteel viewports as they emerged from hyperspace, the majority of the Iron Alliance - the name of their, hopefully not temporary, alliance in this war with the contingency. "Pull us towards the left, towards open space. I want all ships to form a crescent formation in reverse, with us on the outermost tip." Lily directed, rising from the command seat to pace towards the front of the bridge, arms folding behind her back with a posture tense and rigid with discipline. A short nod from Nadja and orders were repeated, the fleet breaking away from their point of entry to form the interior wall for the Alliance. "I suppose I should inform you that there are Imperial and First Order ships detected across the field of engagement, is there anything you want me to say to them?"

"No. If we detect hostilities from them then we can request a temporary truce and barter it out later."

"You have.. nothing to say? Not even if a certain someone might be listening?"

Her cheeks flushed with color at that question, to which she was glad that she was facing the viewport or the rest of the bridge might have had an inkling of the topic of discussion.

"Focus on victory." She answered, saying exactly what she figured was going through his head right about now.

"All units: unlike any enemy you fought before, this is not an enemy on whom we can inflict PTSD, so we have to destroy them before they inflict PTSD on us, or worse still, kill us!"

"Enemy fleet detected" the sensor technician told the CIC crew. "There is some sort of shield ship down the enemy formation"

"We must protect our left flank: Admirals Zark and Morrow have advanced through our right. We can't leave our left flank vulnerable... there might be a temporary truce, we may never know when an enemy could run up our left flank. Keep the monitors behind the front line"

"Speaking of left flank, the Red Fleet has that covered" Tanith commented, while looking at the tactical display.

"In that case we are at the center. We need to breach their port flank and flank them in that direction, either us, or the others"

With the medvacs staying out of the engagement zone, it was up to Therapy Command's battlefleet to fight the Contingency's fleet. While it was less sizeable than the Rogue One Sith fleet, the Contingency fleet definitely was massive. Larger than the First Order fleet on Kaeshana, but not by a whole lot. The big difference being that the enemy flagship is 6 km rather than 3 km. Here there was a need to balance out the targets. But for some reason she feels uneasy having to fight such a formidable enemy. As such, the battle wasn't going to be easy, and she mustn't let the other units down. Attacking down the right flank (from her perspective; from the enemy's, it would be their port flank) was the only sensible choice. Opening moves are crucial to the whole battleplan, and she knew it. Speaking of which, where exactly are those Silver Jedi units? Were they bogged down on Ossus? Or were they too busy fighting on other theaters? Like the ground theater? Regardless, she had to steel herself for the battle to come, and prepare for the eventuality that the battlecruiser may be getting hit, in which case she had to be ready to get to the escape pod at any time.

"I sense that the monitors won't be able to do much of a dent into the larger Contingency ships, so they are to pick off escorts at range"

"How are we going to go around breaching the enemy's port flank?"

"Buzz droids are loaded" the quartermaster of the Excubitor reported.

"Frigates, pick off the enemy picket corvettes, hopefully we can kill one even at that long range, Excubitor, fire on the shield ship, Sionoma, cruisers, open fire on one of the Annihilators down there"

"Therapist Actual, this is Impasse, the gravity well is activated, full power; hopefully we can attract ships towards each other on collision courses. If we can hit a Chimera for hull damage, or kill it even, we can even get the resulting debris to hit other ships!" the Impasse captain reported in, too.

"Monitors, open fire on the Chimera targeted by the Impasse!"

Someone had to fire the first shots: they concentrated their fire at a limited number of enemy ships. At that long range, better late than never, and firing hundreds of ion cannons, hypervelocity cannons, and, of course, turbolasers were going to be fired, at the pickets, with the stealth MIRVs, the signature weapon of the Procurator-X, being fired in hopes of overwhelming enemy point-defenses, as were non-stealth MIRVs fired from multiple sources, some of them being directed at the shield ship, while others were fired at the enemy cruiser called Annihilator 1. Both targets would have hundreds of buzz droids fired at them due to the non-stealth MIRVs being fired, each of them containing five Discord missiles and the missiles themselves contained seven buzz droids each. Understandably, the non-stealth MIRVs were fired after conventional weaponry was fired, because the buzz droids would be acting on a damaged enemy. So the plan is to take out the picket corvettes, using the escorts, and potentially score kills. But also, since she knew the monitors' 420mm hardpoints deal damage independently of range, as is the case with any HVC, but that the monitors could not deal that much damage at larger ships that frigates, they all fired at a Chimera frigate.

 • Advanced down the Alliance's center
 • Fired at the shield ship, including buzz droids
 • Fired on ships down the Contingency's port flank
 • Activated the gravity well projector with a gravity well centered at 04.13

Command Deck // ANS Hereafter
System SX-192 // Operation Faraday
Galactic Alliance Fifth Expeditionary Fleet

"Feeling a little aggressive today, are we?" Bashir murmured under his breath while standing at the Vice Admiral's right hand, "You're not going to pull an Ayden Cater on me are you?"

There was some truth to the polar Mon Cal's words, as even now ships of the line within the Alliance task force were deploying farther into the wampa's maw than any other elements so far, friendly or otherwise. The lumbering star defender's coaxed their underpowered sublight engines to their limits to catch up with the faster cruisers of the line and escort vessels. Getting caught with their pants down here could spell disaster for the 5th before the battle had even truly begun.

"Too soon," he winced. Zark had served with Cater at Omega, he had been on hand when Fleet Admiral Saren had pulled his body from the escape pod. The Admiral had no wish to share in Ayden's fate, but shrugged as he said, "Someone has to be the first through the breach. Fleet Admiral Morrow took the hit in the Ison Corridor, and hell if Thuku hasn't taken the focus so many times you'd think our enemies had it out for her. And you know how the Imperials are with their speeches, so it seemed to me like it was my turn."

Truth be told, Vice Admiral Zark was grateful to Morrow for taking point on the diplomatic overtures. When the First Order transponders had appeared, he had quietly ordered his sensor officer to see if there was any sign of the FIV Nolantia, and had been strangely disappointed when the results came back inconclusive. When the voice of Supreme Commander Graush began its reply, he ordered his officer to cut the feed on his end. Morrow would inform him if her efforts had born fruit, but right now it was just another distraction.

"Contact!" came the cry he had been waiting for, and the holodisplay before him began to scale out further, "Three battlegroups!"

The bridge grew silent as it kept going. Dozens upon dozens of unknown contacts filled the three dimensional space, and when the scans returned that the largest was even bigger than the Itsukusk, Zark could practically feel the morale seep out of the room through his empathic abilities. The droid battlegroups advanced as one, and it wasn't long before the Vice Admiral's task force a relatively tiny force under the perilous shadow of a vast enemy armada. That was, until the Red Fleet arrived, and moved into position to reinforce his and Morrow's battle lines.

"Reinforcements from Empress Teta, sir."

"And not a moment too soon," Zark acknowledged, tapping at the station before him to manipulate the tactical holodisplay, "Have the Consecration and Old Faithful move into position off our speartip's port bow, maximum coverage. If its a game of positioning they're after, we'll oblige them."

The twin older model Protectorate Shield-class Cruisers lumbered forward into position on the line, angling their shield screens towards the heavy destroyers and battlecruisers of the Contingency in an attempt to deny the wrath of the main teeth of Battlegroup Malachite upon the task force's line, but keeping them powered down for now to avoid interfering with friendly fire.

"Sensor bloom," Commander Bashir growled out, "The closest droid battlegroup is lighting us up with weapons locks. So much for diplomacy."

"They lost the opportunity for diplomacy when they burned down the Sullust Temple," the Vice Admiral answered quietly, "This was only ever going to end with fire and oil."

Closing his eyes, the Jedi Knight allowed himself to recede into the depths of his own mind. Perceiving his immediate surroundings with Force enhanced senses, the sage allowed his mind to wander as it reached out to touch the network of thought patterns that made up his task force. It was a technique he had only attempted a few times in the past, to mixed results, but he nevertheless tried now to shape that cacophony into something more organized, more synchronized. Lost in the trance of battle meditation, he would rely on his senses and Bashir to relay vital data to him of the material plane, while he bolstered the resolve of the war weary Alliance fleet.

"Begin."

All down the task force's line, turbolaser fire and targeted warheads erupted from their emplacements as the massive long range hypervelocity cannons on board the Hereafter caused the command deck to tremor ever so subtly, straining the limits of the star carrier's inertial dampening systems. Per his direction Bashir coordinated their fire with that of Admiral Thuku's who had by now advanced and was likewise opening up on the right flank of the enemy's battlelines, and the ships not protected by the Contingency's own shield vessels.

"Keep our fighters back for now, I want to see what they're prepared to throw at us first. Mister Bashir, at your pleasure you may signal our old friends," Zark said out loud, and although his eyes were still closed he was nonetheless continuing to plot new course corrections for ships throughout the task force on the holodisplay before him, "Their mission is a go."

Nodding, the Mon Cal executive officer moved over to the auxiliary systems station on the far end of the bridge. Outside the hull of the Admiral's flagship, floodlights winked on and off in the pre-agreed pattern, virtually invisible in the massive void of space to the enemy's sensors. Another ship would have to be practically right on top of them to be able to get a clear visual of the signal. Which was exactly where the ANS Argo and Spectre, twin Leviathan-class Sullustan Monitors, were.

There was no sign of their departure even on the star carrier's own sensors, but Bashir knew they were already advancing along the battlegroup's flank and moving into position for their attack run. Having discovered all too well the unique kind of hell it was to serve on board one of those floating coffins, the Commander prayed to the Force that the droid sensor technology was not somehow so advanced it could detect their approach. The crews were gambling their lives on that not being the case, and the task force was betting that their assault concussion missiles would make a difference.

"I am one with the Force, and the Force is with me," the Vice Admiral began to chant softly.

After a few moments voices throughout the bridge and indeed throughout Task Force Hereafter found themselves mouthing or mumbling along the same words in unison.

Summary of Actions
Heavy capitals move into position behind the main cruiser and escort line. Upon arrival of Contingency battlegroups, Shield-class cruisers are ordered into a position shielding the task force from Battlegroup Malachite's center, but keep their modules powered on standby for now. Task force's main line opens fire on ships in hexes 04.11 and 04.14 with all batteries. Sullustan Monitors are signaled to begin their attack run, and make their way along the outer edge of the battlegroup's left flank before firing on ships in hex 04.13 at close range with assault concussion missiles. Zark begins to channel battle meditation.

Asharad Graush said:

As a flag level officer, one had to know how to school one's face. Thus, she hid the surprise at hearing back directly from the First Order Supreme Commander, followed by hiding the mild disgust as he inflated his ego on the open channel. Through it, she held a mildly amused smile on her face, and her eyes were on the screen where markers displayed the forces arrayed against the droid onslaught.

"Contact, Contingency ships have dropped out in formation." The sensor officer reported in, shaming the author for being overly eager to see things on sensors.

"Channel cut on the First Order side, ma'am." A communications officer reported at nearly the same time.

"So, We Will Fight. Do you think he meant us or the droids?" Her chief of staff said as an aside. She smirked slightly, but turned to rebuke him when the communications officer reported in again.

"Encrypted channel coming from the First Order, along with protocols."

"Lock them in, but have a crypto team monitor the stream for any slicing attacks." Alexandra ordered. "Initiate no such attacks from our end."

Asharad Graush said:
"And so we begin."

"We'll do our best to keep them tickled over here, I trust you'll hammer them on your end." She replied, then muted her end of the channel. "That went smoother than I had hoped. Let our people know that we have detente with the First Order for the moment at least."

"Ma'am, Therapy Fleet and the 5th have opened fire on the Contingency right flank. Red Fleet from Empress Teta has reinforced our lines here." Her chief of staff reported as he motioned to a sector on the map. A moment later it filled with an Alliance symbol. She knew she only had moments before the Contingency fleets fired, so she relaxed herself and let the tactical side of her mind take over.

"Have On the Pyre focus long range fire on Battle Cruiser 1 (Diamond Devastator 1) at this grid." She indicated grid 11.13. "Argent Dawn and the Phoenix Fleet contingent focus on the frigate protecting the main force of their right flank here." She ordered, moving her hand to indicate the Malachite Mantle at 05.12. "And the Providences focus on this Corvette here." Alexandra brought her finger down on the Malachite Centaur 3 at 06.11. "Launch all fighters into a defensive screen, have our anti-fighter corvettes maintain focus for any fighters. Have With Eyes Wide Open begin to actively scan the enemy fleet. I want to see anything cloaked coming at us from them, and as detailed an analysis of their systems as possible. Disseminate the analysis through the fleet as we update it."

Throughtout her fleet, ships shifted as they slowed to rest relative and take up firing positions on the enemy fleets. The Nonnah turned the most, rising relative to the rest of the fleets and firing at one of the battle cruisers in the center fleet, while the rest of the ships hammered at targets in the right flank.

“Learn about art, Captain. When you understand a species' art, you understand that species.

Morro pondered that famous quote from Grand Admiral Thrawn, one of the most well-known, lauded and accoladed Chiss in Csillian history.

Likely this unknown threat had art, but was it primitive or sophisticated? Did it reflect love, politics, the fragile state of the galaxy and all of its various cultures? Or was this an insular species who only cared for their own survival?

The answer was simple at least from the Chiss's perspective. No one in the First Order knew much about the Contingency and solid, detailed, and thorough intelligence on them was as scarce as water on Tatooine.

Commander Morro, having proved herself in the skirmish above Rakata Prime and recently on the SJO Ossus assault had been tapped to lead Battlegroup: Annihilation along with Captain Banning, reporting into the Admirals of the First Order and the Supreme Commander. The crew of the Pride of Dossun was tense and on alert, and as usual the temperature was kept as low as comfortably possible to placate their Chiss officer who liked her atmosphere on the chilly side. Captain Banning did not disagree as rumors of her rise to heights had been emboldened by scuttlebutt that she had grown close to Admiral Rausgeber, but none of this was founded in anything but gossip and speculation.

With ultimate control of the ship at his very finger tips, A'sharad's mind made the existence of almost every single crew member on the ship redundant and useless. Although the ship held a vast garrison, they wouldn't be deploying into this mess. Not right away, anyway, their Enemy's forces had emerged from the vastness of Space and were heading straight for them in uniform formations.

An extension of his mind, shields came to life to the front of the ship as weapons began to power up.

"Confederate Fleet advancing on our Eastern Flank," Atrisha alerted him. They needn't actually communicate with the Confederate Navy here, not unless the Enemy breached their entire line. The Imperial line however was slow to come to life on the eastern flank. "Alliance Navy advancing to the Enemy, My Lord!"

Not much has changed.

The VT-Command Throne was not a piece of technology that he used often. His control only extended to weapons and shields. With molecular shielding, Graush was certain that it'd become increasingly more difficult to actually control the functions of the ship as he mind became overloaded with the stimulants that would soon be Enemy fire.

"Continue on our trajectory..." His mind raced. Who was it that recently reported in? Chimera... "[member="Gerhard Maxim"]," the Supreme Commander's voice came across the encrypted channel. "Position behind my battle lines." The Commander had larger, stronger vessels, ones that were armed with actual capital grade weaponry. Closing off his end of the transmission, the rest of the Forsworn Battlegroup was alerted. "Layer forces to the fore of the Typhojem." And almost immediately, ships were moving on the system wide display at the front of the ship. Although the forces he now led into battle were nothing like the White Wolves, the Sith Lord had trained Forsworn since the Sith had assaulted Midvinter way back. Now... After Ossus, this was their first space engagement. Here, they would prove themselves to him lest he erase them all, and start again.

Corvettes and frigates advanced ahead of the Typhojem, and soon they were slowly turning into a position that would allow them to face both the western and centre column. Based off of positions, with the Sith Lord's battlegroup extending out to the west, it appeared as if they were lining up to join the Iron Alliance in taking on the western column. The other Admirals in the First Order's Navy were competent, officers that had fought in many battles before he became the Supreme Commander.

"Deploy fighters. Secure the centre of the Battlegroup." With as few fighter squadrons as the Forsworn Battlegroup had, deploying them out in open space was more of a detriment than a boon to their newfound alliance with their galactic neighbours.

Young Graush knew it was important to bridge the gap between both them and the Galactic Alliance. With three columns of the enemy, if they solely assaulted the columns closest to them, if they took too long to destroy, the centremost column would flank both navies and sweep them from behind. With his own command ship towards the rear of his own battlegroup, it wasn't a reality he was willing to experience.

Through his mind, hypervelocity cannons along the top of the Typhojem cycled to life as they rotated on their mounts to line up with the advanced centre Enemy fleet.

FIV HELLSTROM
BATTLEGROUP HELLSTROM

A quiet smile graced the Grand Admiral’s lips, they had done more than show the Sith their true might on that day above Castameer. Her hands balled into a fist behind her back as her head lowered in remembrance of all those she had lost. The Galidraan’s eyes shut as the sounds, the smells of the impact with the Sith ship came back to her. Abandon ship, and she herself had shut Galeway and Walzer away in their escape pod.

As she lifted her head and her eyes opened, the woman’s gaze fell to the viewport ahead of her as she watched the Supreme Commander’s fleet move. The First Order had risen with great ferocity over the last two years. “Wilhuff.” Her voice curt as she paused, “move Hellstrom into Luna Four-Twenty-Two. Keep us in the centre, our attack line must be at our front, prepare fighters all squadrons.”

“Yes Admiral,” he acknowledged and stopped a moment to get a look at the brunette with the alabaster skin. Her eyes seemed lost in some distant memory and as he turned away he felt her cold stare against his back. “Captain Pavanos you are free to move and engage.” A hand over his new communication badge to alert the Starfighter Captain.

Pavanos had once again been assigned to Yvarro, and once again would temporarily be promoted to Captain. Wilhuff got a look at the bridge just below forward operations, “Commander Cyone, I trust your time with Captain Osidipie went well.”

“It went...” She answered, “what can I do for you, sir?”

“Prepare long-range weapons, we’ll need time to charge the plasma railguns,” Wilhuff ordered.

Fiolette watched the interaction from her position above them in Forward Operations before turning back to the holographic map of their new battlefield above Tartarus, or rather SX-192. “I see Commander Morro has arrived,” the new blip that was Battlegroup Annihilation had registered on her charts. Now all they needed was for the Unforgiven to arrive with her Battlegroup, but that was in the hands of Grand Admiral Tregessar.

Forward, Fortune and Fearless embarked ahead of the Hellstrom, followed by the Cavalla, Corvinus, and Capelin the six ships were arranged in traditional imperial attack line formation. In the mix followed the Halberds, consisting of the Greatsword, Glaive and Guisarme. Around the Hellstrom itself were her escorts, the Bolt II pack of the Sonic, Sound, Surge and Spark the four of them had seen the battle against the Alliance at Kuragin.

They were aided by their Seagroup brethren, the Seawolf, Seabear, Seafire and the Seaclaw. Muhktiars and Daggers formed along the flanks of the Hellstrom while the Thunderchild, Titan and Imogen brought up the rear as the escorts trailed just above them all. Morro. She was Rausgeber’s pet wasn’t she? A bemused smile had turned on her facial features as her brows rose with curiosity. It was a shame that the Admiral didn’t bring her pets - wait, that would mean she cared to bother with such frivolous terms such as; fraternization. “Let’s see what this would-be Thrawn has to offer outside of the Admiral’s coat.”

On the one hand she was glad to see another woman work her way up the ranks, and then on the other, she questioned Morro’s merit. And then she wondered about Commander Reed, “Ensign Farrah.” The Grand Admiral called as she took her seat, “bring me Commander [member="Charlotte Reed"]’s profile.” If they were going to play a game of progeny, then she had best begin to diversify her assets. After all, Hogrum had proven more than adequate of command at Bespin in spite of what he had to work with then. Commander Veed had been a mere lieutenant fresh from the Academy when she first plucked him up for engineering assignments.

Petty Office Drucath walked up the steps to Forward Operations, in his hands a cup of tea. Galidraan tea that he hoped would match up to the Admiral’s insane standards.

“Admiral, enemy fleet charging should we move to engage?”

“I’m sorry what is it that you think we’re here to do? Make tea and crumpets while everyone else works?” She asked him with a rather serious tone, “once the enemy is in range of our long range weaponry please do make mince pie out of them.” A pause as she noticed the man was still standing there. “Are you a child? Go. I gave you an order.” Like she would allow the Galactic Alliance to hog all the glory in such a great battle.

The Petty Officer offered up the cup of tea.

Fiolette looked at him, down at the cup and back at him. “Darling.” As she took the cup of tea, “we’re going to take a walk and I will show you a proper cup. There is not a soul in this galaxy that would drink this, look at it, what is that?”

“I...”

“Come along, Drucath.”

“Bridge is in your hands Captain Wilhuff.” She remarked while walking down with the Petty Officer and in her hand written on a data pad, the files of both Hogrum Veed and Charlotte Reed. The Hellstrom’s decks busied with the flurry of preparing the guns, while the pilots prepared to depart. With fourteen squadrons, the Admiral wanted to ensure she had the ability to answer the call of any challenge. Raptors, Reigns, Crowns, and the traditional fare of Starfighters were all being readied.

The Serenity's Bridge

"Captain! Several large vessels have exited hyperspace on the far end of the system. It's the Contingency fleet!" a droid reported.

"Very well. Order the fleet to move into Panthac formation." Zahori ordered. "Roger, roger." the droid replied.

The Confederate fleet began to move into a their formation, with The Serenity in the center, the carriers in the back with it's escort and the larger capital ships to the sides and at the front of The Serenity. Another droid called out, as well, "Captain, several other ships have come out of hyperspace at our starboard flanks. Sensors claim them to be the First Order and the Galactic Alliance fleets.". Zahori looked at the holomap of the battlefield and took note of her allies' movements. "Good. Maybe this'll be easier than previously expected." A tactical droid came to Zahori's side. "Captain, do not be so easy to underestimate the enemy. Their numbers are great and they are relentless. They'll do whatever it takes to defeat us. Also, it would be wise to keep an eye on our 'allies'. We've no idea of their intentions once our common enemy is defeated." the tactical droid commented. "I know better than to question the loyalties between us and the others on our side. But, you are correct. Draw up a plan should they turn on us, TD-59. I'll keep my focus ont he battle at hand in the meantime." Zahori replied. "Yes, captain." the tactical droid replied with a salute as it walked away from the holomap.

"Captain, we've got an incoming transmission from the captain of one of the Galactic Alliance ships." a droid reported. "Put it through." Zahori ordered.

The message came through cleanly and Zahori listened well. She already knew the Confederacy had no quarrel with the Galactic Alliance so she was unsure the purpose behind the message. Perhaps it was due to the fact that CONFNAVCOM had some close ties with the First Order. Perhaps, it was just a precaution. Whatever the reasoning, Zahori had replied to the message kindly. "This is Captain Zahori Denko of The Serenity. We share a common enemy. One that we shall only defeat together." Zahori paused for a moment as she realized her ships were in formation. She looked over at a battle droid and nodded a single time. The droid replied with a nod of it's own. "And that we shall." The droid Zahori nodded to chimed in on the Confederate Comm Network to issue an order to the battlegroup. "All ships, release the vultures and ready weapons." the droid ordered. With the shield ships at the forefront of the Contingency fleets, attacks from the sides would have to be made, unless those shield ships were taken out somehow. For now, however, the ships moved forward and began their attack.

Tanomas Graf was furious.

No,

He was enraged.

Once again, rival galactic powers had decided to take it upon themselves to police territories that did not belong to them, amassing fleets inside Imperial territories; specifically in the Rishi Maze where much of the Empire's capital sector was located. Now, the Grand Moff was not oblivious to galactic events, he knew about this 'Contingency' that had been terrorizing places like Yutan, Ilum, Sullust, and even the Empire's own capital of Kamino, but it was inexcusable that they would do something such as this without first speaking to the Empire about an incursion into its space.

The Imperial Starfleet acted fast, three standing sector groups mobilized and divvied up to reinforce the garrisons that were present in controlled star systems in an effort to deter the enemy fleets that had already arrived from taking advantage of their moment of weakness and launching attacks on their worlds. Graf himself had decided that, even though they were trespassing, the fleets could be used to his advantage in rooting out the disease that had infected the satellite galaxy. Thus after a brief emergency meeting of the newly-appointed moffs of the Kamino sector, the 29th System Force, codenamed 'Typhoon', was dispatched to rendezvous with the confirmed First Order battlegroups in the area.

The azure tunnel of hyperspace disappeared and morphed into the sight of numerous dagger-shaped vessels that Graf immediately knew to be the task force dispatched by the Order. His own fleet whipped into realspace behind him, the destroyers and support vessels surrounding the battlecruiser that served as the admiral's flagship. "Open a frequency to the allied fleet's commander, which should be..." Graf paused, glancing at his datapad "Dear me, Tregessar is not here yet. Ah, Admiral Rausgeber, patch him in if you can."

Tanomas took a seat on the vessel's command throne, activating the integrated communicator. "Admiral Rausgeber; This is Grand Admiral Tanomas Graf of the Galactic Empire." He simpered, before frowning slightly "Now I know it's been a good while, my treasonous actions notwithstanding, but now's the time for us to unite once again. Much like how you participated in the Battle of Charros IV, obliterating the Silver Jedi's fleet in the name of order."

He turned off his side of the frequency while waiting for a reply, glancing over towards his first officer. "Commander, tell the captains of the Moonshadow and the Eleventh Hour to keep in a tight formation beside the Emancipator, get the Vindicators to fill the gaps if you can. I want the Ton-Falks in the rear, with their fighter squadrons deployed to patrol our flanks." Graf affirmed, looking back towards the viewports and back out into the battlefield. "Bring us around and open up long range fire on one of those frigates, with the shields."

The larger vessels of the Empire's fleet sailed forward, followed by the support lines, their guns swiveling on their mounts to face their target in the distance; a Contingency shield frigate, the scanners assumed. Green and blue lit up the bland durasteel hulls of the destroyers, bolts of light, energy, and heat all raced forward in a desperate attempt to take out their enemy. Long-range assault concussion missiles burst from their tubes, and began blasting off in the direction of the heavy turbolaser and ion cannon fire.
