The freak and the phrik

"Alright ladies and gents! Huddle up and strap in!
We are going in hard on this one!"

The Republic soldiers rushed to their seats pulling down the metal handles that would hopefully secure them for an eventual crash landing. The 33rd Marine corp along with Republic special forces had been given the job to finish off a pirate shadow port that had been tormenting the phrik trade within Republic space for a long time now. these pirates had been specializing in hijacking ships from Arkania where much of the Republics phrik was mined and had for a too long time eluded Republic law enforcement.

But their luck had run out and through unofficial channels their base of operations had been exposed.

This time the Republic was removing their silk gloves and declaring that if they did not give themselves up they would be met by force. The pirates however, had no intentions of giving themselves up and as the Republic fleet exited hyperspace they were met by heavy laser fire as the shadow port prepared to defend itself and its precious loot.

Inside the boarding shuttles the marines and special forces sat still, listening to the distant music from the ship guns returning fire.

The deployment was drawing closer by the second and as the last marines had strapped themselves in the red light was turned on and one after one the shuttles where hurled out into space and toward the waiting space station ahead....

Good luck and may the force be with you.

Sofia rushed to her seat next to Corporal Karevik, who she had met during her time at the Galactic Republic's Military Acadmey. Corporal Ulf Karevik was roughly her age with dark hair, light blue eyes and a beard however, unlike her, he specialized in frontline combat. With prior permission from higher authorities, she had been allowed to work with him on this mission of recovering phrik, a precious resource the pirates had stolen from a planet under the control of the Galactic Republic in order to gain frontline battle experience as she knew that was where her weakness lay.

"Been a while since we last hung out hasn't it?" Corporal Karevik asked.

"A few years so, I believe so," Sofia said in reply after securing herself in her seat and double checking the metal handles that would keep her safely in it when they crash landed for good measure. "I look forward to learning what I can from you".

Sofia's excitement for this mission showed clearly on her face and it only got stronger as the shuttle took off. This was going to be her first real experience on the frontline after all and not the brief taste she had grown so accustomed to.

Ayumi was actually surprised and glad to have been asked to come and help. With everything going on she was working to try and finalize some of the Wey'lan contracts to get the colonization systems that they needed out there for use. One good way was here working with the soldiers as she had when Selena was grandmaster and helping the chancellor help the others within old sith empire space. She hadn't really been doing much for it while she sat there finishing up a few of the things. She stood there in the sasori bodyglove to show it off for the ones there to get an idea of what the under armor offered tapping the rail pistol and flame unit on her hips. The ballistic combat knife ready for use. "So we have a plan correct?"

"Lots of hostiles," noted Captain Aiko.

The pair of Directorate officers watched as the space between the allied warships and the shadowport erupted into a dazzling if deadly light show. At the head of a wedge of Directorate warships, the Delpin drifted forward unperturbed by the enemy fire. Sections of the Delphin's shields briefly flared a bright green as the enemy began to concentrate fire on the bow of the vessel. He glanced at the datapad in his hand. The blonde man swiped to the side to pull up the latest automated diagnostic reports from the Delphin. He began to interpret the various graphs and statistics. They have a lot of volume of fire, but it's not particularly powerful. Probably designed mostly to engage enemy starfighters and small craft...which suggests that they were more concerned with fighting off other criminal enemies rather the Republic...Probably would have been pretty tough for a pure starfighter assault or even a corvette to take care, but this too substantial of a force for them to deal with...Gir turned to the frigate's communication's officer.

"The other ships aren't in any danger of heavy weapons, or so it would seem," decided Gir, "inform the other captains that we will move to secure the perimeter as planned."

"Yes sir."

The Delphin continued to pepper the space station with precise shots from its mass driver cannons. One set of solid shot ripped through a quad laser cannon turret, turning the weapon into a dissipating cloud of debris. Under the covering fire from the Directorate frigate, the smaller Directorate warships began to accelerate, forming wings which swung forward to surround the space station. Gir watched as the last ship, a tiny Circinus-class Corvette assumed its position opposite of the Delphin, forming the last link of the cordon around the space station. Gir narrowed his eyes. There's no escape for them now...

A single Kiribian frigate entered realspace near the pirate base, flanked by a squadron of droid starfighters. A pair of flights broke off from the formation, rocketing right into the fray of combat between Republic and pirate forces. Moments later, they would be followed by a full squadron of droid interceptors from the frigate's hangar. Small and agile, the interceptors would make short work of pirate vessels they encountered, swarming over each in a dizzying array of tight maneuvers that couldn't be replicated by the biological pilots using clunky physical inputs. While engaging the pirate ships, a few would be lost to turret fire from the base itself. For all their speed and maneuverability, the interceptors were so fragile that it only took one good hit to knock them out.

Meanwhile, the frigate and the starfighters worked on hammering away at the defenses of the base to cover the landing parties responsible assaulting the base interior. The base's defenses would be systematically torn apart by surgical artillery and missile strikes directed by the ship's cyborg gunnery crew. A few shots here and there would manage to find the frigate, but its powerful shields absorbed the relatively weak plasma fire with ease.

When the frigate commander was satisfied that the defenses had been neutralized in her zone, she deployed a pair of gunships to transport a platoon of Paladin commandos and assault droids to the base.

It would seem that in the recent years since Jaccer had begun climbing through the officer ranks of the Republic military, that his involvement in front line combat had been limited. Perhaps his superiors felt he was getting too old for the field work or maybe they were hoping of letting him go at some point. Because of these reasons, it came as a pleasant surprise to the Major that he was actually asked to take part, as a leading officer, in a raid on a pirate shadow port which had been disturbing cargo ships in the area for quite some time.

Usually, one would expect the navy to be in control of an operation like this and do little more than blast the pirates to the next star system. This was not the case, it seemed that whoever had planned this raid did not think that using the Republic's immensely powerful force of the navy would be necessary, instead they would be seeking out the surgical precision of the Republic special forces. This meant that they would be expected to recover something inside; most likely phrik that had funded these pirates entire existence. This was understandable. With the Roche Asteroids in Mandalorian control and Alderaan becoming isolated from the entire Galactic Republic, it seemed that Arkania was the only available planet where the elusive mineral could be found.

So here Jaccer sat, in the back of a dropship, once again risking his life to secure some rare metal. At least, he wasn't the only one; dozens other marines and special forces soldiers were along for the ride. "Check your gear men," Major Ramirez would say to soldiers sat before him, "Once you've done that, check it again. And finally, when you've done that, check your buddies gear. We don't want any of you dying because of your own incompetence, it'll make me and the Commander look bad." Jaccer had made a reputation for himself as being a cruel officer. Some would call it tough love, other would favour more demeaning terms. Either way, it always seemed to work.

Elaine had come to help with her Housecarls, they were equipped with power armour and thul reapers. She was in one starships, with mission of clearing area of anything that moved. Though first she had to get down there, she waited nervously in a launch bay. Waiting for a word from the ship's captain to say go, her men were loading fusion batteries and spare ammo. She also had five thul infantry companies to back her up if need. Though she was out numbered by the sheer amount of republic troops here, though her men were well equipped and well trained.
She however was only wearing some light armour, and carried a lightsaber. She started to move around the hold, she hated this part her body was screaming for the word go. Just so she could get of this tin can, and get down there.

"More inbound craft," noted Aiko, "more troops coming in, I'd imagine?"

"It seems likely," mused Gir, giving Aiko maybe a quarter of his divided attention.

The rest of him was focused on the arriving craft. Even as a child, he had found himself fascinated with watching starships. Perhaps it wasn't so much watching them as it was cataloguing their designs. whether they were ancient, clunky drone barges or high-speed racers, a new ship always seemed to enthrall his attention. Each ship had a purpose behind it; one that often showed up in the their form. But that form often was influenced equally by cultural aspects as much as it was by scientific principles. He eyed the Kiribian Systems vessels curiously, having never seen one in person or in holo. Perhaps worthy of a closer look...but the pirates may also have some interesting vessels on that shadowport...ships that stole, some uglies that they cobbled together, or an antique that they're still using out of lack of anything better...perhaps I should go take a look...He cleared his throat.

"Captain Aiko, you have the bridge. I'll be boarding the station."

She frowned, "Into a combat zone?"

He let a wry grin curl across his lips, and Aiko began to quietly curse. Gir's lips crept open, but the raven-haired woman was already jabbing a finger at him. She got to him first.

"Sir...don't start twisting my words on me. I know that we're already in a combat zone."

"But you've never been one that was man-to-man?"

"Not never," bit back the woman, "But that's not our place..."

Everybody seemed in place and working on some fo the things or bringing troopers.... She might have been better equiped having some troopers in heavy armor but lazy.... and she would have to explain why that was a good idea. Instead she'd just go with the usual things checking her equipment and the others. "So do we have everything we need to head out and preform?" She sometimes missed being in charge but why not rework and get what she lost back... it would only add a few things to her for extra character she was imagining before she could sign it off for taxes. Other good things she could hope for while breaking out a couple pieces of equipment for field testing the new upgrades. Like getting the wrist sniper into its tube and more production.
