The Force and the Freebooter (Jack Sparrow/Katarine Ryiah)

Jack took a pull from the proffered bottle. "Ah, well, Miss Katarine, that is a tale that spans systems. A tale of greed and betrayal, adventure and madness." He paused to look out the forward view screen. "But mostly, it's a tale of adventure." He smiled. "It's the age-old story, really. Boy runs away with pirates, turns guns on own family, gets rich by theft rather than inheritance, then proceeds to rape, pillage and plunder his guts out." He passed the bottle back to Kat. "Now it's your turn. What makes a lovely young lady run away to join a mystical order and wave a glowing stick of death around in the name of some ephemerally ancient code about avoiding anger and attachment and using your brain to lift things instead of acting in your own self-interest?"

He certainly had a comedic way of putting things, though his story sounded more like a horror story than anything else. Turn his guns on his own family? Of course who was she to talk? Her family were monsters.

"About the same. Good girl runs away from home and wants to save the people she left behind. Same old story, different day." She eyed the drink and sighed pushing it back to him. Always doing the right thing.. that was Katarine.

"One coin, three sides," mused Jack. Seeing Kat's expression he said, "There's a saying: two sides to every story, two faces of the same coin. Not true. There's three." He fished a coin out of his pocket and began deftly rolling it between his fingers. "Your side, their side, and the truth. Some would say you and I were two sides of the same coin." He stopped, holding the coin between his first and middle fingers. "I'd say one of us was on the edge." He pointed at the bottle he'd passed over to Kat. "You're turn," he reminded her. "So what would you do if you weren't so constrained, Katarine? Open a hat shop? Become a singer? Hire yourself out as a bounty hunter or cargo pilot?"
