Private The Font of Power

It was quiet as the sun began setting over the trees. The clearing once torn apart by an ranging duel had long since grown over. Long shadows stretched tired fingers acrossed the ground like a sleepy hand grasping for the saftey of the heavy blanket of night. A bird fluttered away without a sound beyond the brief wing beats as a breeze began to blow.

The wind started slowly drifting through the clearing. Languid and hesitant at first. Slowly crawling across the pits and rise of the loam covered ground like a child trying to sneak an early morning look at their life day presents. It passed over a mound near the font and seemed to go around and away. The mound lurched like a broad chest that greedily inflated after a breath held to it's limit. Skeletal fingers pried apart moldering leaves and roots as the wind began to stir into a frenzied dance over the shadowed ground.

First fingers, an arm, two, as the ground moved to fill the vacated space that the bones once inhabited. Long rune etched bones pulled free from the dirt as the large toothy skull turned its empty sockets skyward, mouth agape in a soundless scream. It pulled free and knelt on the ground as a cyclone spun around it. A tempest raged as nerves grew first then tendons began snaking between bones and from them strand by strand muscle began binding themselves the the etched bones of the creature.

Black unblinking eyes formed in the striated meat wrapped skull as its head titled back with mouth wide, a scream still silent, as green thick skin began creeping over the body. Inky black tattoos, somehow remembered by a troubled soul, climbed up legs and sides in twisting writhing patterns as the creature staggered to its feet. Tresses like lekku snaked and writhed over its shoulders as it stood straight. He had returned.
