Why risk an independent operator?

The sign had gone up a couple of days ago and already, Connie was sick of it. Literally right over the fence, overlooking the street. Right next to the gate where people came into her family's shop. It was the least subtle thing in the Galaxy. CorelliFix had locations all over the planet and about twelve in Coronet itself. And of course, they'd vindictively placed that ad right over her family's shop. It even glowed when it got dark. Someone in that company had a grudge.

Connie remembered what her father had told her. That a couple of people of expensive suits had turned up with a bunch of credits. He'd refused to sell up, then the suits turned a little nasty. Threatened all sorts of things against him, his business, even his children. Mr Copal, being of a gruff and curmudgenly nature, had told them where they could shove their threats. Connie always had admired her dad's way with words.

But in her brief amount of research, Connie had discovered that this seemed to happen a lot. Independent businesses would somehow find their reputations trashed, their licences revoked and their property mysteriously destroyed. That was before she even got to the suspiciously positive reviews and deleted comments... which she'd admit were less important than the whole 'suspected corruption' thing.

Unfortunately, being fifteen and broke as heck, Connie's ability to fight back was limited. She could go and take the fight to them buuuuuut... she didn't want to get arrested for arson. Instead, she turned to the Holonet, posting on whatever message boards she could find.

It's all about that Freedom of Speech
Ahhh Corellia half planet, half junkyard Deena didn't want to bad mouth the planet too much. After all she did buy her YT-130 Light Freighter from one of their local used Starship places the moment she graduated from University. Corellia was a planet teeming with history and from the surface, the people were blue collar people who had a proud history. All of that was true of course but Deena's investigations had unearthed some nasty corruption that would make Nar Shadda look like a paradise. Backstabbing, corruption, union busting, unfair wages, lack of a proper company health care. The list was sadly endless and to think as a child Deena used to admire Corellia. The admiration though came mostly through her mother who was Freighter Pilot and worked for one of the major shipyards in Corellia transporting parts around the galaxy.

Deena missed her Mom, she taught Deena the basics of flight even bringing her on this planet one time where Deena would stare at awe at the ships passing by. Coming back to this planet was a mixed bag a mix of nostalgia and disgust but as a Journalist the hunt for truth takes a person to places that they feel uncomfortable going to. A week ago, Deena received a tip from an anonymous source that a major shipping company had been engaging in illegal trading. Deena wasn't the type to trust unverified sources especially ones that'll cause her to go on wild Bantha chases but the source sent Deena schematics of illegal weaponry plus messages of illegal trading. The source finished by saying to meet Deena at a bar located in Coronet City.

Sighing, Deena made port with her Freighter: The Almanac in a space port that she rented for an exorbitant amount of credits. "This information better be worth the price I've paid." She grumbled stepping out of her ship. "Could definitely used that to repair my Holocomputer."

Her Holocomputer had experienced some lag lately, Deena suspected that it was suspicious malware but the reports came clean. She'll have to dig the parts later though. As Deena entered the Spaceport, she made sure that her Blaster Pistol was holstered. Given that she exposed a couple of Shipyard corporations in the past, there was no doubt that some people have taken note of her landing and were planning to kill her. No matter though, you're not a journalist if someone isn't trying to take your life.

This 'investigation' thing was brand new to Connie, but she could see why people enjoyed it. Got you out of the house, didn't it? She was pretty familiar with the major spaceports on Coronet, she'd accompanied her dad on several repair jobs there. Fixed up all sorts of freights, skiffs and fighters in those bays and yards. However, this time she wasn't there for repair work. This time she was there for justice.

Still, she'd learned a couple of things. Connie was a teenager and therefore had spent most of her education being told do not meet with strangers from the Holonet. Weighing up the circumstances, Connie was willing to break the rules and risk it, with some precautions. She came to the spaceport in an oil-stained jumpsuit, the baggy thing she wore to most of the bigger repair jobs. With a cap on her head, hair pulled back and goggles on, she looked like any other nameless repair person. Which meant she could scope out the place easily.

Stood beside the entrance, pretending to check her 'tools,' Connie knelt down and read the message on her datapad again.

DRZ113345: I have information on CorelliFix
DRZ113345: Evidence of illegal activity.
DRZ113345: Have already contacted the press regarding this matter.
DRZ113345: You may want to speak with her.

There'd been a link to some newsletters and bylines. Connie stared at the picture again. Some dark-haired lady with a cool cap and annoyed look. Then Connie looked up and noticed the sheer amount of people moving through the spaceport that day. This may have been a mistake, she thought to herself as she scanned over the faces of countless sentient beings.

Deena rifled through her orange coat pocket taking out her Holopad. She frowned seeing that she had a 3 unread messages all from the anonymous source. So Corillfix had issues with corruption? Not a surprise despite it being one of the top shipyards in the Galaxy, Corillifix was accused of having unsafe working environments, terrible work conditions and a CEO who was accused of illegal trading. There was no proof to their crimes though and whenever Deena did some investigating, she would usually come up empty. There was a time that she had an inside source, an employee who was recently let go from the company. Despite the fact that he was under a strict NDA, ready to talk about how the company was mistreating their employees but the day Deena was supposed to meet him, the source disappeared.

She really hoped that not only was this source legit, but she had the means to protect herself. Deena wasn't sure considering that they were communicating in a public channel, but she made sure that to place the necessary protections so they can communicate safely. "Where are you?" She responded. "You were supposed to meet in the city yes?"
