The First Order Security Bureau Shell Corporation

When four different writers (in this case [member="Valessia Brentioch"], [member="Val Kordova"], [member="Jude Falkrowe"], and [member="Leilani Paaie"]) come to you and say: hey this would be a cool idea for us to do... you should probably listen. So, by popular demand, here is the planning thread for our very own front organization.

The concept: create a business (or businesses) that all operate seemingly independently of the Bureau but serve to feed our operatives with information. Certain elements of this operation could also be tied to producing, selling, and buying black market (illegal) commodities thus allowing the First Order to control the flow of illegal items throughout our territory. Another potential outcome of this operation is being able to tie in to the varied underworld presences located across the galaxy but with particular interest to our own borders and our neighbors. We can also launder credits and smuggle goods to our agents spread throughout the galaxy depending on where our storefronts and bank accounts may take us.

The execution: here's where my knowledge is a bit lacking. Would this organization (or these organizations) need to be a listed company in the factory? I imagine that anything produced would need to be subbed, therefore a company is a necessity. But what we need to prove we have/are capable of doing and what we don't need to say are beyond me. Plz halp

The story: currently, I see our two best outlets for this to be based on Riflor and Terminus, the former is within our territory, the latter is a neighbor. Both have canon established underworlds that we can already get in on tapping into, so starting a less than reputable business would not be out of place. We already have an approach thread in the works with [member="Allie"] and Terminus, but we'll need to cook something else up for the piping hot Riflor.

This is still in the discussion phase for now. Once the event is done, we'll go full swing into making this business venture of ours a virtual reality (eh? c wut i did thur?)...

It should be a business that looks really innocent, or seems one track to throw off any kind of investigation. Tourism, I myself for Leilani was thinking modeling agency, escort service to set up for her individually, and that could have contact with the front business to pass information.

I have this company on an alt that I haven't done much with. For any Bond fans out there, it's a slight nod to that franchise, and looks pretty innocent on the face of it.

As I mentioned to [member="Sentiri"] over Skype, the character in charge, Sankt Yora, would be happy to set up a contract to set aside a division of her company for FOSB's use in exchange for lucrative contracts on her end. Money isn't only what she desires, she likes power, and would be happy to be one of the dark money forces within the FO. And for those of you wrinkling your nose at the thought, it's par for the course, every great government has plenty of ugly businessbeings supporting it and leeching off it.

I have two characters who do some interesting business, Orentho owns a debt collections company. He buys old debt for cheap and picks up on it for tons of interest part of it goes to where it belongs the rest? To him. He even does a little repo on the side when asked by certain organizations. Completely 100% Better Call Saul worthy.

Then there's Aria DuSang who is probably as much of a Girl Scout as Superman is a Boy Scout except like for the First Order. She works primarily for Ms. McBose from Primo Victorian Shipwrights the main company who designs a lot of the FO's new ships. On the side she works as a licensed health and life insurance agent.

The question would then be, how do we turn these organizations into intelligence gathering operations on top of their already legal function?

I imagine a ship building company might make use of and even develop illegal tech for R&D. Debt collections companies tend to be sharks and may end up dealing with a wide variety of criminal scum who can be used at will for our needs. Offworld Exports does shipping which would enable a flow of smuggled goods when necessary for operations. The tourism/hospitality trade (of various kinds) could be a prime spot to bug rooms and record conversations between high profile customers.

But do we want something more centralized? Perhaps something that specifically targets criminal dealings or underworld presences on various worlds?

If we're going to set up a strong presence on Riflor or Terminus, there needs to be some sort of cover operation that signifies why that presence is a big deal. A massive hotel/casino/cantina or a series of restaurants (mob boss style) or anything?

Or am I thinking too big?

Could do like Google does, start by building/buying a building in a quaint district as part of normal expansion of operations. Then grow that building to another one, and a few more around the block, and suddenly become the security/police for that area. Get hooks in the local government through lobbying (there's where a restaurant or casino could be useful) and sweet dealing, then start to make the company's operations indispensable to part of the planet.

Very quickly, it becomes apparent that the planet cannot survive (or would take a massive economic hit) if the company were to leave. So that gets threatened and dangled in front of politicians to make them cooperate. And when that doesn't work, well, this IS an intelligence outfit. A few stabs, a few bribes, a little blackmail, all in a day's work right?

Imperial Intelligence's Front company - Saber Enterprises - was used for the purpose of not being tracked when contracting dubious operations. Of course, I am game on expanding that front on more than that but that would be a good and logical beginning.

Trading companies are usually my best bet on front companies, along with insurance ones.

Well, looks like Offworld Exports might no longer be eligible. I'm taking Nubia's new charter trade story with OE, and after talking with [member="Sentiri"] it means that disqualifies OE for this. So kindly withdraw OE from your consideration.

I'd definitely love to see the Ministry of Finance front. ;)

Well Jaster's company and planet are new annexed by the Order, with established Trade Outpost across the Galaxy, we have ears everywhere. Corporate Security had astablished Inteleigence Operations in these ports and are willing to hand this Info over to the Security Bureau that we come across.

Consider United Trade Conglomerate a source of Intel Gathering.

To echo what [member="Leilani Paaie"] suggested, Sage has spent her time before the FOSB using her career as a dancer to get information and other favors from high-profile individuals. If a tourism company idea comes to fruition, she could be of use posing as an entertainer or escort for the hotel/cantina/casino in order to take advantage of off-guard targets.

[member="Allie"], I think it would be a wasted opportunity not to take you up on your offer. So I'm adding Sankt Yora to the list of our associates. After all, we're using her services, not the other way around. If I've made an error in placing these, let me know. Also, let me know if these are officially listed in factory or not and what tier they currently have. So, here is the current layout:

Nationalized companies:
<Primo Victorian Shipwrights>

Privately owned companies:
<Orentho's Debt Collections>
<United Trade Conglomerate>
<Offworld Exports>

[member="Leilani Paaie"] and [member="Sage Annel"], since the tourism thing is something that both of your characters are perfectly fit for, would you two be interested in heading up that project? Set up whatever service it is you're going to offer and let us know. Sentiri will be happy to assist you in setting up the operation.

[member="Jude Falkrowe"]: what company are you currently using to dev all of our current gear? Should we add that to the list or no? Should you instead get your own started so we can have an officially branded First Order development company?

@All of you cats: should we create something more underworldy to suit our needs (especially on Riflor or Terminus), or is this a good enough start?
