GENERAL INFORMATION
Equipment:
COMBAT INFORMATION
  • Availability: Unique.
  • Deployment: Minor.
Strengths & Weaknesses:

+ Direct-fire Artillery - The Kay'calyr provide heavy, direct fire support on the battlefield in a manner no other non-unique bes'uliik can.
+ Fire Support - The troops carried aboard the Kay'calyr are armed with anti-air, anti-infantry and anti-tank support weaponry, and are trained at fighting and firing on the move beside their hulking transports.

+ Air Mobile - The Kay'calyr cannot fly themselves, but each is deployed with modified LAAT/c to transport it to and from (or across, in extremis) a combat zone.

- Lumbering - While it's ironic to call anything lumbering compared to other Bes'uliik, the Kay'calyr fits that class - it can move faster on flat ground, but it is still a hulking beast more reminiscent of a tank than a conventional bes'uliik.
- Vulnerable During Transit - Unlike conventional Bes'uliik cavalry, the Kay'calyr cannot fire when in transit and the LAAT/c are not anti-air interceptors, this renders the whole unit vulnerable during transit.
- Only Human - For all their technological excellence and training, under the armour and behind the guns are non-force sensitive, unenhanced humans.

Description:

Supposedly formed from those who didn't make the cut for the one elite and three specialised units, the Fire Owls are looked down upon by other Kryze, and in turn they look down upon them, in truth it requires a specialist set of skills to operate or operate with the Kay'calyr bes'uliik the unit uses. While Clan Kryze operates in a fashion somewhere between the 21st Century Air Cavalry and the Vietnam War era Air Cavalry - acting as both mounted and unmounted troops, the Fire Owls operate more like a conventional modern armoured cavalry division - although slow compared to hovertanks and the like, they can match speed with most all-terrain walkers at a tactical level and their transport craft allow them to match pace with the clan at a strategic level. Alone among the Kryze forces, they're the ones you want when defending a fixed point, indeed, their heavy armour and support weapons are designed to fill a back-line role with the clan - offering direct line artillery fire with their railguns and direct and indirect fire support with their infantry mounted weapons.

They famously paint their beskar'gam and bes'uliik matte black with silver highlights, no one knows where the tradition came from, but their armour and their bes'uliik are marked with often crude kill markers, simple red lines of tally marks which, for older individuals, often cover the entire surface.
