DISTINCTIONS

The Enmity are an extremely enigmatic phenomenon which has only been known to occur a few times in history. It is difficult to classify what one of these horrific creatures are given the varying sizes, shapes, functions, and directives of each individual type of creature. Their origin is unknown as is their exact purpose aside from the consumption and corruption of all living organic matter and the devouring of a sentient creatures living essence, sometimes known as 'The Soul or Spirit'. It has been noted however that this specific type of enigma has only ever occurred during 'Wild Hunts' held by the now believed to be extinct Vycan species. Although since their purging several centuries ago The Enmity have long since vanished from the galaxy until recently until they began sporadically turning up randomly all across the stars almost like some kind of infection that spreads across a small area and then maintains a hive-like colony until eradicated by an external force. Brief encounters with explorers have revealed that these creatures do not share a 'single form' in which all Enmity are born from. It is speculated that The Enmity aren't their own species at all, but the mangled, twisted, and corrupted bodies and souls of sentient creatures infected by the Vycan curse and purged into something horrific via Sith Alchemy and Blood Magic. As a result the shape and details of most Enmity tend to vary spectacularly depending on the species of the original host. Only five basic 'archetypes' of these creatures have ever been documented and their classifications and specifics are detailed as follows~

GUARDIAN | HELLHOUND | SHADE | THRALL | HIVE

kDF9vWn.jpg
Guardians: Space Explorer 'Galio Vexus' discovered an extraordinary Sith Tomb located on a moon deep in the outer rim. While exploring the tomb he was met with much resistance from traps, spirits of dark lords. However, being escorted by Jedi allowed them to push through to the sacred tomb itself. When reaching it however a mysterious creature was discovered standing statuesque in the very center of the tomb like a silent gargoyle. Clearly alive but...unfeeling, unwavering, and without purpose as it menacingly stood. Massive in size and resembling creatures such as Rancors or other massive creatures Galio discovered that this monster was placed in the tomb on purpose. And as the jedi studied the beast from afar it was discovered that they were directly linked to the tomb of the Sith lord who rested there who to their surprise, was a young Vycan Warrior. It was shortly discovered that the creature had been crafted by a complex, time consuming Blood Ritual requiring a large quantity of bodies and souls in order to merge and twist into this giant cryptid. With that it was understood that Guardian class Enmity have only a singular purpose and can never, under any circumstance act outside its focus which is 'always' the protection or guarding of a person, place, or thing. Guardians have a potential for mass destruction due to their sheer size. Guardian Class Enmity are the only known archetype to be massive in size and more 'wild' than others. Incapable of complex thought or reason, their only purpose is to exist in a stationary, disrupted position until awakened by any form of sentient life with 'ill intent' which triggers its awakening. Heavily armored, massive in weight and mass, and extremely physically dominating making any Guardian Class Enmity a force to be reckoned with. Guardian Class creatures tend to be towering in height, capable of reaching twenty or more feet and weighing several tons which makes them a behemoth to rumble with. Because of their simplistic nature the Guardians lifespan can reach that of several decades without a source of sustenance since they can shut down all bodily functions and 'hibernate' until awakened which allow them to store massive amounts of energy.

Hellhounds: Captain 'Reginald Price' of the Galactic Republic is one of the more prolific discoverers of these creatures and is famed for his twenty eight day stand off with the hellish beast on a massive space station being raided by a mysterious group of hunters. Hellhound Class Enmity have been observed to carry out only one single directive no matter the shape or size of the individual beast. Their desire is blood and the complete slaughter of all intelligent life. About the size of large bears or dire wolves Hellhounds are distinct in the way that they 'always' take the form of some kind of predator-like abomination with excessive offensive design. Sharp claws, skewering teeth, bone-like spires and quick, athletic bodies make these beasts terrifying foes. Captain Price was able to witness their ability to form dynamic 'pack-like' groups as they continue to spread. A Hellhound can hunt a sentient humanoid or large animal, slaughter it. And in doing so corrupt the corpses body and twist it into a near replica of itself after every kill, allowing them to spread rapidly if given a stable population to feed from. The more they spread, they develop a pack-like hunting social structure and divide and conquer, capable of showing great cunning and hunting instinct. However, unlike Guardian Class Enmity these abominations can freely roam and thrive so long as they constantly have food source. They have no 'special abilities' like the other classes and exist almost exclusively like hounds meant to assist a hunter. Although if left to their own devices they can thrive on their own until they end up starving to death which takes twenty four hours of no feeding. In which the creature will shrivel into bones and perish into nothingness. Captain Price noted that they were exceptionally easy to kill individually if one was skilled enough, but great numbers of them should be avoided at all costs. It was also discovered that if allowed to feed and spread to sustain themselves, they will learn and grow into smarter killers as they hunt more and more. The only Enmity Class shown to evolve as it goes on. Hellhounds also do not require a complex ritual in order to create, only needing to be directly corrupted and turned either by a Hellhound, or the Sith who can directly twist a body and soul into a deranged, beast. Ranging from six feet tall to even fifteen these creatures are considered the 'muscle' of the other classes. But with a ravenous appetite Hellhounds are very short lived, having to constantly feed in order to stay alive and perishing should they fail to do so. However, should they constantly have a food source they could, theoretically, live forever.

aQaaiwc.png
Shades: Shade Class Enmity are known to be the specialist of their subspecies. Possessing a certain niche which allows them to preform one task, really, really well. They are not exclusively offensive or defensive in any way and exist to preform only a single prime directive commonly associated with a force power which grants them greater efficiency. Creating a Shade requires a Force Sensitive individual and a Blood Ritual which can take weeks to finish. The result can be any number of monstrosities ranging from a Mind Flayer which devours the minds and memories of those it gets hold of or a Knight type beast designed only to combat duelist who may cross their paths. Given their specialized design Shades are the most difficult to design and maintain. Excelling at single tasks Shades can be extremely easy to kill or extremely difficult depending on what the individual shade was created to do. Shades also lack the ability of the other Classes like the Hellhounds ability to create more of themselves with whatever kill they make and they don't display any enhanced form of intelligence outside their main area of focus. Shades tend to be on the smaller, more 'humanoid' side of things often maxing out at seven or eight feet tall. Their lifespans can vary but they tend to be relatively easy to manage and can survive without life essence for about a year before perishing due to starvation.

Thralls: The 'Average' creatures of darkness which have been encountered all across the galaxy are the Thrall class Enmity. Creatures with horrible offensive and defensive potential but exist almost specifically as drones or 'zombies'. Thralls are created from the infected bite of a Vycan mixed with Sith Magic in order to completely twist the mind and body into something truly strange. Thrall are at their simplest humanoid creatures turned into mindless fodder which can obey any simple command given by the master who turned them. Thrall, while not displaying any form of cunning or intelligence, tend to keep most their physical features although the color in them quickly becomes sickly and dead. It is easy to tell a Thrall apart from any other type of Enmity since they are essentially humans turned into stupid slaves. Thrall are one of the smallest of the Emnity, only topping out at whatever the height of the host originally was before turning them. Their lifespans are also among the shortest, only capable of surviving for a couple of weeks unless they are directly kept alive via devouring the life essence of others.

Hive: The easiest and perhaps most harmless type of Enmity are the 'hive' which are simply small birds, rodents, or other tiny creatures what become infected by Vycan Blood and twisted into servants. Once a creature is taken it can then infect others of its kind with the same curse which in turn causes a chain reaction similar to the Hellhounds. Once a network is established the taken develop a 'hive mind' which is all connected to the creator who made them allowing someone who have a vast collection of eyes or talons to terrorize their foes. Hive Class Enmity however have no specialized purpose, aren't particularly threatening and are commonly only ever created as 'support roles'. Additionally, a Hive must remain in close proximity to their creator otherwise they will perish. The longest range is speculated to be at least several hundred kilometers. Hive are also the smallest creatures of the species, only ranging from one to two feet tall and weighing practically nothing compared to the others. Hive also possess the shortest lifespans, only lasting for about a day before dying off considering they lack the ability to kill anything larger than itself and thus cannot feed from the life essence of others.

STRENGTHS & BLESSINGS

ufYYgj0.png

Jekyll & Hyde

In reference to the odd fact that this 'species' begins as a simple parasite that exist within the blood of Royalblood Vycans these creatures are capable of being spawned almost anywhere there is sentient life. While each class has varying degrees of prep and requirements to create it is still founded on the principle of taking an existing, sentient being and completely corrupting and twisting it into an unrecognizable monstrosity designed to serve its master. The benefit of being able to create one of these monstrosities in any location and let them loose on unsuspecting populations is what makes the species as a whole so incredibly versatile.

6nqmPky.png

Bones of the Reaper

A common strength shared across all the different subclasses of the species is the forming of large, bone-like plates and shapes around the body in order to form a protective barrier that is extremely difficult to pierce. These 'bone plates' are completely energy resistant (although the flesh is not' and cleaving through the armor requires either incredibly destructive blunt force trauma or an enchanted Silver Blade which can easily carve through the armor like butter. Enmity can also form razor sharp claws, teeth, and appendages which function differently than the armor on the body. Capable of cleaving through most standard armor and capable of completely deflecting energy and common weapons aside from its aforementioned weakness to silver based projectiles and melee weapons.

pOieRve.png

Soul Eater

A trait given to all classes of Enmity is their ability to completely devour the life essence of whatever sentient creature that they slay. Once devoured, an individual Enmity can repair damage to itself via regeneration so long as it is not fatally wounded beforehand. This makes Hellhound and Shade class creatures more of a threat in the sense that one could be almost killed but if they manage to take one down they can virtually 'reset themselves' like new. Even getting stronger the more they devour~

q7nlSz4.png

Hydra Heart

A strange trait that every Enmity possesses is a mysterious crystal which exist somewhere within their body that act as a 'heart and brain'. These stones can be located anywhere within the body and can be the size of a brick down to the size of a marble. This is what makes an Enmity exceptionally difficult to kill for normal folk, seeing as the source of their life and sentience all radiate from one little stone. Slicing off limbs and hurting them causes damage and pain, but they can still reattach limbs or survive completely so long as their Crystal Heart remains in tact. However, if the body is exposed to any kind of light the Crystal will flare violently with color through their skin and tissue, exposing itself to attack.

WEAKNESSES & DRAWBACKS

ei74wQN.png

The First Curse

Sharing the same weakness as their creators, as Sithspawn created by the Vycan these monstrous creatures have an extreme vulnerability to the Light Side of the force. Any kind of open exposure to abilities like Force Light can completely eradicate any Enmity with laughable ease, including the Guardian Class. Force Imbued weapons strong in the light side of the force can also do severe harm just in less destructive force.

TKzvILL.png

One Track Mind

These Sithspawn were never created to preform highly complicated tasks and as a result each subtype of Enmity tends to specialize in only a single area. Hellhounds are only capable of killing violently and wildly like predators, Shades are created to preform a single, extremely simple task, Guardians sit stationary until awakened and Thrall can preform specific actions so long as they are simple while Hive provide only support. Because of this it is easy to catch onto the pattern and outsmart or outplay these creatures depending on the situation.

c32TiCZ.png

Radiant Dawn

Another weakness shared by their creator, Radiant Dawn references a Enmity's heightened sensitivity to highly concentrated Light. UAV lights can burn their skin if concentrated enough and most of these creatures are blinded by bright lights shined directly into their eyes which can be used to stun or ward off the abominations. Because of this the Enmity tend to gather in dark, cool places and only venture out into the light if desperate or forced to do so. While common sunlight and such causes discomfort and general weakness, they can still exist in the day without completely bursting into flames. Additionally, their Heart Crystals flare brightly with color through their skin when exposed to sunlight which makes it very easy to kill one with a simple handgun if someone is accurate enough to strike their 'heart'. Once the heart is destroyed, the entire body bursts into flames and fizzles to ashes, leaving no remains of the creature.

67wukPPl.png

Silver Lance

As mentioned briefly above, The Emnity share a common weakness with their creators which are their extremely vulnerability to weapons crafted from pure Silver. Capable of slicing through their powerful bone-like armor and cleaving through their flesh effortlessly these weapons are by far the greatest advantage one could possess against one of these devil-spawn. However, any imperfections in the metal will result in a weapon that backfires. The Silver used against them cannot be alchemist, altered, or merged with other metals otherwise the material will become flawed and become about as useful as a typical blade.

GENERAL BEHAVIOR

  • Diet: Blood (Only Food Source)

  • Communication: Vycan Language

  • Technology level: Nonexistent

  • Religion & Culture: Nonexistent
3z0eZCJ.png
The basic behavior of a creature of Enmity remains a mystery to most due to the sheer lack of information on these bizarre monsters. From the few historical encounters they've had it has only been discovered that these abominations exist solely for a single purpose. The destruction of all living life indiscriminately, possessing no other aptitude for anything else despite the vast variety in their shapes, sizes, and specializations. While a Guardian Class Enmity may sit stationary for years only to awaken when approached in the end its only job is to kill or destroy whatever it is meant to be protecting. The Hellhounds desire only mindless, violent slaughter and the Shades preform the same just with a more specific target in mind.

In the end, the Enmity are simple beast. Hungering for blood and seeking souls to devour which in turn will allow them to grow stronger to only continue the endless cycle of malice and bloodshed. To corrupt, spread, and conquer for some. To destroy, feasts, and slumber for others. No matter how one looks at it the one thing that is obvious is that these monsters are just that. Monsters. Unfeeling, unwavering, unfearing, and unstoppable in their own right. Lacking true motive, personality, desires, or dreams they cannot be reasoned or bargained with and it is for that reason they remain one of the most terrifying creatures to be let loose on unsuspecting innocents.

Still, out of all the different classes of Enmity the one that shows the most potential for actual 'behavior' are the Bloodhounds who are speculated to be the original origin class in which all other Enmity stem from. Their ability to form pack-like relations with others of their type and communicate an organized social hierarchy akin to that of wolves is what makes them by far the most dangerous type of Enmity. Growing to be more efficient killers with each passing hunt and spreading their corruption with every kill made. They freely roam open expanses, seeking out sentient life like bloodhounds and raiding for the simple pleasure of doing so. Such sadistic beasts share much in common with their creators, the Vycan such as their obsessive tendencies for violence and religious worship of hunting. Although unlike their creators, Hellhounds like the heart of a true hunter...because in the end...killing is all that matters~

HISTORICAL INFORMATION

It is often speculated where these creatures came from. Some believe them to be the tormented spirits of animals of people, others think them to be simple monsters that nature just skipped inspection on. Others think of them as demons, spawned from the pits of Chaos itself and bleeding back into the world of the living to claim what they have been woefully denied...life. But in truth, none of these are true. These creatures were born for a purpose. Sinful malice and hatred is their very essence as the ones who put down their very souls and bodies to create the very first of their kind were the Vycans.

Vicious, ravenous killers whose obsession with 'The Great Hunt' pushed them to attempt creating companion to take with them during their glorious hunting expeditions throughout the galaxy. But given the high fatality rate due to the danger and risks that came with each hunt. The Vycans were forced to figure out a way to not only create reliable beasts to run beside them, but also keep them alive and replenish them as they tore through their prey. The solution was simple, proposed by legendary huntress known only as the 'Bloodmother'. She was the first to use dark force magic to corrupt the soul of a sentient being and then completely twist and mutate their physical being into something monstrous and inconceivable. She was responsible for creating the very first Hellhounds of the Enmity, hounds of war that thirsted only for blood just as she did.

And although that is where they began, other Vycans attempted to create varying design differences of the Bloodmothers perfection. None of them were ever successful however until a little girl with a knack for imagination and a passion for creation managed to design the future versions of the Enmity that we know today as the Guardian, Shade, Thrall, and Hive class. A woman named Viktoria Valentine of the esteemed Valentine Family, who then passed her wisdom down to her only daughter who only improved the Sithspawn from there. Vanya V Valentine, the last known remaining Vycan.

A stroke of genius with a touch of madness Vanya was the only one to truly push the limits of what could be corrupted and twisted to her sick, sadistic whims. She begun corrupting every sentient thing she touched and experimented with all manner of beasts which allowed her to summon a vast selection of creatures for different situations depending on the scenario.

This has to be one of the most artistic and visually distinct submissions that I've seen in my years on the board, and is a solid piece of writing besides.

There are a few points that I'd like addressed before I move this on.

#1. Images. You have 15 separate images in this submission, but only the one gallery linked. I reviewed the linked DeviantArt page in some detail, even requesting another Codex Judge assist me in case I was missing anything, but I was unable to find a lot of your images there. I did find this one, but on the page of a different DeviantArt artist. As such, I'll need to ask you to please cite the source for each of your images directly, if you would.

I'll use the below image to help illustrate my next point.

qOHYU8L.png

#2. General/Physical Information. Refer to figure 1, above, if you please. There is a lot of variance here with large ranges, such as age range of "very short" to "very long-lived". Now, it strikes me that this sub is fundamentally about a parasite. What I'd like to see in this section is information that details the parasite more. In what kind of environment can it survive outside of a host? How long can it live outside of a host? How large is an adult parasite? What is the life cycle of the parasite?

In terms of the height/length and lifespan of the different iterations the parasite produces (Guardian, Hellhound, Shade, etc), let's move that down into the Distinctions (see note 3).

#3. Distinctions. This is solid. The only thing that I'd ask here is that you detail each of the forms with additional information. What's the height/length/weight range for a Guardian? What's the lifespan range of a Guardian? Add that information inline for each of the different forms and I think this submission will be a fantastic illustration of a breed of varietal Sithspawn.

#4. Clarification of Weaknesses. The "Bones of the Reaper" section says that silver weapons are the only vulnerability of the exoskeletal structures. This seems contradicted by the Weakness & Drawbacks section, which addresses a vulnerability to concentrated light, Force Light, and items imbued with the Light Side of the Force. If all of the above are true, then I'd like to see the silver vulnerability added to the Weaknesses & Drawback section. By the same token, I think that it would be helpful to your reader if you included mention of the Light Side of the Force vulnerability in the Bones of the Reaper section.

That's all I've got. I appreciate your patience and please tag me once you've had a chance to make your updates.

Hello Zardu! Just checking in to alert you that i've made all the requested edits. The details about each classes life span and size can be found in the final sentence of each section, the additional weakness to silver has been added in 'Silver Lance', and i've added the collection of art credit to the top of the form as you demanded.

Only thing i had a hard time doing was explaining the Enmity as a 'Parasite'. These creatures are very similar to a Parasite but they work a bit differently. The Enmity cannot exist without a host so you would not exactly see a worm crawling around looking for something to infect. These beast are created directly by taking a living, sentient creature, and using Sith Magic and Vycan Blood to completely transmute them into a monster which can then act on its on accord. They die when they are either destroyed by an external force, or starve to death due to a lack of life essence they can devour. Sorry if that is a lot to take in, i have a hard time articulating certain thoughts so i'm not sure if i'm explaining this right.

At any rate, ball is in your court ^^

P.S: Thanks for liking these poor monstrosities, i'm glad someone does <3

I appreciate the edits and I do understand that it can be challenging to put abstract concepts from science fiction, such as these, into concrete terms. I think what might have thrown me down the parasite angle was this part:

Darth Ravenous said:
In reference to the odd fact that this 'species' begins as a simple parasite that exist within the blood of Royalblood Vycans these creatures are capable of being spawned almost anywhere there is sentient life.
But, I see your point about the difficulty in elaborating or fleshing that out, and instead wanting to focus on the various derivative forms of the Sithspawn rather than the underlying process. That being the case, here is what I would ask.

In the General Information, for Average Lifespan, please list Variable, see Distinctions.

In the Physical Information, for Average Height of Adults, please list Variable, see Distinctions.

With the addition of the lifespan and physical data to the narrative portions of the various forms, I think that change will nicely closes the loop there and then I'll be ready to move this on.

Very nice job here. This is a beautiful (though scary) submission. It's a great read, very creative, and I believe you should be proud of this.
