OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
  • Intent: Fleshing out a holocron that Quill obtained, and laying out the Jedi Trial of Recommitment.
  • Image Credit: David Ley, found at https://www.artstation.com/artwork/KLaOy and color-swapped
  • Canon: N/A
  • Permissions: N/A, but my thanks to Coren Starchaser Coren Starchaser , Elise, and Tiland Kortun Tiland Kortun , among others, for workshopping this with me the other night.
  • Links: Threads linked below in context.
GENERAL INFORMATION
  • Holocron Name: The Doverri Holocron
  • Alignment: Light
  • Origin: Master Doverri (unsubbed NPC), a Jedi Master of the 400-Year Darkness
  • Affiliation: Jend-Ro Quill at Romi Jade's secret Jedi enclave on Jakku
  • Gatekeeper: Doverri was a round, friendly Bothan in late middle age when she created this holocron, circa 600 ABY.
  • Description: A flat, pyramidal, blue/indigo holocron in an ornate durasteel casing.
DEFENSES
  • Accessibility: Anyone with Force potential can activate the holocron by touch.
  • Security: It's quite durable, being largely encased in durasteel. Otherwise, no.
CONTENT INFORMATION
The holocron contains insights into how some Jedi groups operated during the 400-Year Darkness. It focuses on how to prevent or interrupt a fall to the Dark Side. Some points of interest:
  • Certain practices in deprogramming Darksiders and Dark Side cultists, comparable to the methods that the Jedi used at Cheelit Valley until 864 ABY.
  • The Trial of Recommitment, which entails an individualized combination of the following elements for a lesser or greater period of time:
    • Paying one's debt to society by facing any relevant charges and serving any relevant sentence.
    • Losing the rank, privileges, robes, and lightsaber of a Jedi.
    • A prohibition from using the Force except at great need.
    • A period of exile, either to solitude or to remote Jedi sites under a mentor's care.
    • Service to any individuals or populations the penitent harmed during their time on the Dark Side.
    • A reduction in rank (Master to Knight, Knight to Padawan).
    • All of the above vary based on the depth of the penitent's fall to the Dark Side, criminal actions they committed, and their culpability or accountability (e.g. level of Jedi rank).
  • The holocron emphasizes commitment to change and to make reparations as hallmarks of genuine remorse.
  • The holocron contains an explicit rebuke of the deathbed-redemption narrative.
  • The holocron also contains instruction in relevant Jedi abilities:
    • Using the Force to determine truthfulness.
    • Detecting the extent of the Dark Side's grip on a Force-user's heart.
    • Cleansing a corrupted/bled lightsaber crystal.
HISTORICAL INFORMATION
At great risk to herself, Master Doverri served this specialized role for a handful of small Jedi enclaves across several sectors. In her lifetime she mentored thirteen Jedi, from Padawan to Master, who had fallen to the Dark Side to one degree or another. Most of them ultimately returned to active Jedi service after paying their debt to society and recommitting to the Jedi way.

The holocron came to light in 864 ABY, shortly before Quill left the Hoth Jedi Enclave. An Imperial splinter group, a resistance movement, and a number of mercenaries and bounty hunters converged on Hoth over rumors that the holocron offered great power and value. Quill hadn't heard those rumors, but a battle in his backyard led to him bartering his precious ship, the Visitor, for the holocron without knowing what knowledge it contained.

Quill brought the holocron along when he relocated to Romi Jade Romi Jade 's secret enclave on Jakku. He made the holocron available to the Jakku enclave at large. After reviewing the material inside, he found close parallels with the path of penitence that Grandmaster Elise had set for him after his butchery of Sith cultists on Kintan. Doverri's teachings were a major point of reference for Quill when, as a member of the New Jedi Order and the Silver Jedi Order, he was asked to be one of the judges at the trial of Nida Perl.

Very nice. Just a couple things:
