Tess watched the creatures at the entrance very carefully their eyes looking this way and that, their maws opening and snapping shut waiting to devour flesh. She heard none of the proceedings going on at the other end of the room, but she kept her shotosaber and combat knife ready for any attack. The Crow knew she was at a disadvantage with hearing, and a greater one without her ears. She knew she had ample time for self-medication before those beasts attacked or the queen did something else.

She knelt down to one knee and stowed her knife making sure to keep her saber at the ready. Then reaching into the large pouch on her belt with her free hand removed a Medi-Kit that she always kept on her person. Opening the latch with the same hand she eyed the monsters in the doorway, they continued waiting, but they hadn’t moved forward at all. Looking back at the pack she removed one of two bacta injectors and placed it on the ground next to the kit. She then closed up the kit and stored it back on her belt, then grabbed the injector. Placing the needle on her neck she single-handedly injected the fluid into her bloodstream.

A cooling sensation washed through her as the fluid did its job. Bacta was considered by some a miracle substance, able to treat almost any injury depending on the extent of the damage, with her ears in the shape they were it would take a while before she could properly hear again. Then without warning and in unison the creatures all stepped away from her. Puzzled the Crow glanced at the group and didn’t see anyone looking her way to indicate safety or attack preparation. The withdraw caused Tess to wonder if the monsters were even a threat anymore, or if it was a ploy. Perhaps the hivemind was wanting to sue for peace?

She lowered her weapon carefully and then deactivated it with the usual *shhhhwoooop*. Which to her surprise she heard! Ever so faint and dully the sound of the saber had broken through the silence. Her ears were mending, but they wouldn’t be fully functional until she got to a medical facility. She cautiously walked to the group as the white witch’s jaw stopped moving, indicating that she had just stopped talking most likely.

Attempting to keep her voice in check while barely being able to hear it she voiced her concern with the situation, “The creatures in the doorway have retreated some. So, have we come to some sort of peace treaty?” She might have been a little louder than anticipated, but she was genuinely tired of being in this underground labyrinth and wanted to finish up whatever the Nightsisters had planned. Her idea and plan had gone off the rails almost before she had gotten time to implement it. And Tess knew she was a little over her head in this situation.
