Overview:
The Chiss Expansionary Defense Fleet is the naval branch of the Chiss Ascendancy. The CEDF believe in rigid discipline and defending their nation to the last man. The Ascendancy is wholly dependent upon the protection of it's assets and the assertion of dominance by the CEDF. They are the Ascendancy's sword and shield in the Unknown Regions and beyond. To be a member of the CEDF is a lifelong commitment to the Chiss Ascendancy and her worlds. This is not an oath one takes with hesitation.
Some time ago, the CEDF consisted of two divisions: the Expansion fleet and the Defense fleet. These two divisions have been consolidated as the Ascendancy has realized the importance of both and decided that the need for separate divisions was unnecessary. Now, the CEDF operates in unity to defend and expand the interests of the Chiss Ascendancy.
The CEDF follow a strict hierarchy that demands respect between ranks:
- Ensign - The beginning of the rest of your life. This is where you start your journey in the CEDF. Where your story begins. You are one of the thousands of cogs in the machine that is the Chiss Expansionary Defense Fleet.
- Lieutenant - As Lieutenant, this is where you begin to earn some responsibilities. You aren't commanding fleets yet, but you may have several squads of troopers under you to command during ground and space excursions.
- Lieutenant Commander - Your actions are being watched closely by the Hierarchy. You are becoming a more prestigious figure within the CEDF. You are able to command your own starship up to a Frigate in class.
- Commander - Here is when the real fun begins. Upon achieving the rank of Commander, you are capable of leading a task group of 4-6 ships into fields of battle in the name of the Ascendancy. Your command ship being no larger than a frigate.
- Captain - Captains are granted even greater responsibilities because of their long term dedication to the CEDF and the Ascendancy. Captains are elevated to controlling strike groups of 7-10 ships. Your command ship being no larger than a destroyer. This is the highest rank a PC can start off as. Any rank after must either be earned through roleplay and/or approved by staff.
- Commodore - Commodores are the first rank of real power in the CEDF. Cmdres are capable of leading a battle group of 10-14 ships. Your command ship being no larger than a battlecruiser.
- Vice Admiral - The Vice Admiral is about the peak of responsibilities within the CEDF. Vice Admirals are granted the ability to lead battle groups of any size, within reason, into CEDF operations.
- Admiral - To be an admiral is to be the commander of an entire fleet. You have a battlegroup of your own,, lead by the flagship of the fleet under your command, but an entire fleet answers to you. There is an Admiral for each fleet meaning there are 6 Admirals at any given time.

The Chiss Expansionary Marine Corps

Overview:
The Chiss Expansionary Marine Corps are the primary armed ground forces of the Chiss Ascendancy. They defend Chiss planets, colonies, and stations from threats both foreign and domestic. They also serve as anti-terrorists, recon operatives, and train militia. What differentiates them from the Ascendancy Navy is the equipment they use, their organization, and the operations they are assigned.
The Phalanxes once acted as the private forces of a House to defend a colony. The new administration has changed this as the Ascendancy's ideals have changed. Now, the Phalanxes act us the army for the Chiss Ascendancy.
Much like the Navy, the Marines follow a strict code of discipline and order. Rank demands respect and the ranking structure of the Phalanxes is clear and precise.

The Chiss Expansionary Intelligence Division

Overview:
The Chiss Expansionary Intelligence Division, or CEID, is the Ascendancy’s Intelligence gathering division. It is entrusted with the responsibilities of Intelligence Handling, Espionage and Counter-Espionage. CEID is headed by a Director who receives orders and directions from the Aristocras, while also functioning as the primary intelligence division of the CEDF and CEMC. All information gathered by CEID is placed into the CEID database and remains 'classified' until such a time as the Aristocras declare it to not pose a threat to the sovereignty of the Chiss Ascendancy; though in matters of military importance, the Defense Hierarchy can request relevant information that was sealed to be presented, without the Aristocras need for permission.
The CEID is broken into four distinct departments, or bureaus, all of them having their own department heads:
- Espionage – The Department of Espionage is the bureau fully committed to spying on enemies of the Chiss Ascendancy’s interests
- Counter-Espionage – The Department of Counter-Espionage is the bureau that works to prevent spies from gaining information on the Chiss Ascendancy or its interests
- Information – The Department of Information is the bureau that keeps track of all the information within the Chiss Ascendancy, not public information

The Chiss Viziters

Overview:
The Viziters are the Chiss Ascendacy's answer to the Force Sensitive Chiss population. Once seen as blights on society, the force sensitive Chiss are now brought to heel and made into tools of the Ascendancy. Upon discovery of one's force sensitivity, that individual's credentials are entered into a database that will track them for life. After this is complete, the Viziter prospect is sent to the Ascendant Viziter Academy for processing and training in the use of their newfound abilities.
Upon graduating from the Academy, the Viziter is placed in one of the many Viziter divisions in the CEDF. Their duties are determined by their schooling and where they excelled during their time at the academy. One could be assigned as a healer for a squad, one could assist in stealth missions, using the Force to hide themselves and/or their teammates.
There are three ranks to the Viziters, and, much like other force sects, respect is demanded based on rank. Viziter ranks lie separate from that of ranks in the Ascendant Armed Forces. One could be a high ranking Viziter but hold no power over anyone of a higher military rank than them.
- Viziter Prospect - You are just beginning your lifestyle in the applications of the Force. Those of this rank are either near completion of the academy, or have finished training, reached the equivalent of Acolytes/Padawans. You serve in the military, usually taking orders from most chains of command.
- Viziter Adept - You are skilled in the applications of the Force. Those of this rank have reached the equivalent of Knights. You serve in the military, but can also perform other duties as directed, and you are able to lead a marine squadron assigned to you by the chain of command.
- Viziter Exarch - You have mastered applications of the Force. Those of this rank have reached the equivalent of Masters/Lords. You serve in the military, but also undertake important tasks assigned by superiors. You have permission to command several marine squadrons, and may also be given permission to operate independently from other military forces to complete objectives.
The Chiss Commandos

Overview:
The Chiss Commandos are a specialized group that operate under special task or black ops conditions. With a combination of advanced training, advanced resources, and a versatility to operating in numerous situations, they are are force to be reckoned with. Typically operating under direct command of the Defense Hierarchy, each Commando has undergone extensive training for a significant portion of their young adulthood, resulting in highly trained and capable operatives.
Commandos follow the CEDF rank structure, but due to their composition and Black Ops based missions their responsibility are vastly different. They're given free reign of any Chiss armory for any weapon they choose, and small scale vehicles so long as they're used for their mission.
They follow a smaller rank structure, and answer to ranks equal to Captain or above within the CEDF. The ranks are as follows:
- Lieutenant - Due to the intense training camp given to the Commandos compared to other branches, they start at the Lieutenant. A commando will never answer to an Ensign.
- Lieutenant Commander - Commandos who have proved themselves are given this rank as a chance for them to prove their leadership within their squad. While not in charge like the Commander or Captain, they are trusted with special tasks and given some freedom to think on their own. They are considered second in command for squads without a Captain.
- Commander - Commanders are often either leaders of their own squad, or second in command to the Captain. They keep the others in line with the squad leaders orders in the later case. Freshly named Commanders often start off as a second in command before given their own squad, but special cases often arise where they earn their own before such a trial.
- Captain - The highest rank within the Commando hierarchy. To go any higher pulls them from the field to command multiple squads under the CEDF. A Captain is the highest authority on the field, and to prevent an issue of command no two captains will be sent out in the same squad. They are expected to lead their squad flawlessly, being the best of the best, and are personally responsible to take care their squad always comes out alive. It costs a lot of credits and years to train Commandos, and to loose even one is considered a major loss.
