The Chase Begins

The fighter was a bit different, sure, but it was the type of fixer up import that Jared was definitely after. He’d been out here, wandering, picking up strays and bringing them back toward the Dawn Treader. The wandering Starchaser, the one who wasn’t quite sure where he stood. He was a Jedi, he was a Corellian, he was a Jensaarai. He was a mercenary and an explorer. But he was also one who listened. He was helping the groups he could. The Confederation, the Coalition, the Silver Order… He was around. The converted Victory Star Destroyer was the home to the Starchaser clan and a few other wanderers from a defunct Chiss and Unknown Region government.

The Treader had been converted to serve more as a carrier and live aboard heavy cruiser, not one that was deploying a garrison, but definitely one that could defend itself in a fight.

And that was why she, along with other freelance carriers were deployed. It was one of those fleets the Outer Rim was especially adept at. Trashy ships, with a drive to do what is right, but more often than not, what will pay. And here they were, along the Corellian Run from X to Y. Waiting for the beacon to light up, for the call to go out. Jared Starchaser, along with a few others were awaiting on standby. His after market Naboo Starfighter, sleek in chromium and navy paint. Hopper in the droid compartment, one taken from the E-Wing design his father favored.

Then the signal came, the hangar dimmed and the red launch lights turned to green. Modified hangar to give the fighters an increased launch velocity, and in quick succession the Naboo fighter, followed by a pair of Exalts and a pair of E-Wings were in space, coordinates downloaded. Turing to the trajectory, Jared didn’t give any order, he leapt the nimble fighter into the microjump.

And there it was. The cruiser in question. It had been jumping all over the Rim and was heading slowly towards other pastures. The Coalition was doing its best to keep the vessel at bay, well, once they realized what was going on. The ship had been bouncing in and out of systems, almost seemingly at random. The ship would spend time, seemingly wrestle control of any droid components around the station. Depending on where they were, they were either using the automated units to attack the colony and station, or they were stealing the units and quickly jumping to the next system.

One thing that was reported through the Judges network is that it seemed to be a handful of cruisers making hyperspace jumps. As a result, they contacted the Coalition for assistance, and they pulled in more ships, to help keep watch. But there were report of similar ships down the Trade Spine. Word had gone out to the Corellian Confederation and the Silver Order, alerting them of what was going on.

As Jared and his wingmates arrived in system, they weren’t far from the Outer Rim turf, but they weren’t quite to the Confederation yet. Another ship had been the ones to call the trap. One of the larger Judge interdictors, operating on the boundary of the Coalition. “Starchaser, we have you here. Gravity well is activating momentarily.” The call was up and Jared saw that one of them Coalition Starhawk-inspired cruisers had the pirate cruiser in its tractor beam. Would be good to have it pinned.

“Here they come!” Came the call from the Judge. Fighters and mining droids spilling out of the leader cruiser and one of the frigates. Jared grabbed the controls a bit tighter, the droids were moving a bit quicker, lining themselves towards the platform and the fighters were on an intercept course for the fighters. Jared rolled his fighter to orient himself to the incoming, no time to check the local system for who else was arriving.

OOC: A quick little space operation. Ships have been entering the Outer Rim. They’re hacking automated systems, from mining droids to droid fighters and moving towards the Core, down the Corellian Trade Spine. They’re hitting stations with automated systems, hacking them, and stealing them.

Objectives; Engage in Space combat to fight the pirates, Defend the trade platform, capture the enemy cruiser and the hacking technology.

OUTER RIM - HARPY-CLASS ARTILLERY CRUISER Leon
Rick had received word of a group of raiders in the Outer Rim.
Truthfully, Rick had known even before the Coalition sent the message. Many of his company assets had been attacked, and while most of the vessels had been fended off, successful raids had taken hundreds of automated weapon systems from ORME. Consequently, Rick had began hunting them, which had lead him to the coordinates of the Coalition vessels.

The cruiser emerged from hyperspace, along with two Essex-II starfighter killers at its flanks for support. In front of the Harpy was a medium-sized Coalition vessel, churning out starfighters. And in front of the Coalition vessel was their adversary. Multiple vessels of unfamiliar design, releasing automated fighters against the opposing force. Leon rapidly raised its shields and began aiming its weapons towards the lead cruiser.

But before firing, Rick opened a general comm network that the Coalition captain could likely hear. [This is Admiral Rick Kaloo of the Silver Jedi Sixth Fleet. We are here to back you up. Are these pirate vessels to be crippled, or destroyed?]

The Corellian CR-37 FarStar light cruiser Avery's Gambit dropped out of hyperspace from the opposite egress point alongside a pair of Corellian Gunships and a Corellian patrol ship. Corellian Naval Intelligence had sent out the order for a very small task force to aid the Outer Rim in a pirate mop up operation. A part of the Corellian Cabal, a Starfighter Corps unit attached to the First Fleet the force was mostly token. A couple of gunships and four squadrons of fighters to help pick off stragglers.

The captain of the ship, a Rodian by the name of Captain Nagath, stood facing the viewport. His starlit blue eyes scanned the battlefield, noting the situation before nodding to the starfighter controller pit. The crewman flipped a switch and began speaking into the com as combat alarms blared to life.

Konan fell into his seat, the much larger and much more comfortable seat of a T-90 X-Wing. Fives, his G5-series astromech tweeted something, the translation falling over his screen.

"All systems are ready for launch."

"Well then what are we waiting for?" Konan asked as he activted the canopy switch and plopped his helmet on. "Let's get going!" The droid tweeted something again sounding as if Konan had asked an incredibly stupid question.

"We're waiting on that," came the translation and almost on cue the droid had used its manipulator arm to tap the still closing canopy. Konan gave him a sheepish smile.

"It was a figure of speech! Bah, you droids have no sense of humor." Fives tweeted something else but he ignored it and popped in one of his new music disks. Synth Jazz from some Bith band that was popular on Hosnian Prime right now. Not long after Konan was in the sky, his squadron commander barking orders in a thick gruff voice.

"Lock S-Foils into attack position! The corvette and one of the gunships are running escort duty, they've set us free! Let's show 'em how Corellians fly!" That got a resounding shout from the squadron coms. Konan pulled off from the squadron as they all began going their separate ways to join the fray.

Jared was more than ready for the situation before him. He was checking his radar and the reports coming in from the Judges. There were a number of other ships and he was getting the feed from his astromech. Silvers, Corellians, Coalitions… A few other free lancing and freedom supporting pirates. Those were almost indistinguishable from the Outer Rim’s own ‘fleet’. Life of the Rim, right? Jared was grinning as he saw the reports coming in. Admiral Kaloo, and a Corellian Skirmish group.

“Admiral Kaloo, this is Captain Lux Hill of the Coalition Interdictor What’s Mine. We request that the lead ship be disabled. Marking it now.” A quick signal would go out, identifying the cruiser in question as the Captain continued. “Free range on everything else. We need to track this back to its source.” The Captain signed off as the orders were given.

Jared and his ragtag flight were coming in hot. “This is Captain Jared Starchaser…” Of whoever, it didn’t matter, he carried the rank of Captain once upon a time. “We’re heading for the fighter support hitting the station, going to try to keep them occupied.” Trade outposts were no joke. “But if those turbolaser mines get into place… Going to make life a lot harder.” He was calling out, to whoever had the fighter support to take those out. His N1 and gathered were more suited for anti-starfighter.

He preferred that over strike runs anyhow. He slammed the throttle to full and the engines on either side of his cockpit lit up as his fighter jumped forward, the green lasers firing in rapid alternating pattern, between the incoming pirate fighters, maybe T-Wings, maybe Preybids, and the platform.

[Understood, I'll eliminate the support craft and try to get a boarding party in the main cruiser.]
Rick cut off the general comms, and resumed his focus to his ship. "Spare the cruiser, but fire on the second largest vessel in their fleet." ordered Rick, pointing to a frigate to the right of the cruiser. "And turn the vessel 90 degrees to the right. Prepare a boarding tube to enter the cruiser." continued Rick. "Seize whatever technology is available."

As the cruiser turned and primed its weapons, it began to receive attention from the hostile force. A squadron of starfighters, along with three haphazardly shaped corvettes, flew towards Leon. "Focus ten turbolasers and the flak cannons on the hostile strike force." amended Rick. "But keep the rest on the frigate, with boarding tubes aimed at the cruiser."

Leon's first shot rang out, a turbolaser bolt arcing straight at one of the approaching corvettes, and slamming into its shields. Then, nine other turbolasers joined it. In the meantime, Leon had completed its turn, and its weaponry turned right to face the enemy fleet. Suddenly, fifty missile racks and thirty turbolasers all unleashed their loads on the enemy formation, pounding the frigate with immense force.

In the meantime, men rushed into the starboard boarding tubes.
