GENERAL INFORMATION
  • Name: The Bortlings
  • Designation: Semi- Sentient [Primitive language and problem solving abilities]
  • Origins: Czerka Corporation Laboratory
  • Average Lifespan: 50-150 years
  • Estimated Population: Inter-Planetary
  • Description:
    • The Bortlings are a weird but interesting creature made by the Czerka Corporation. Typically coming in a shade of tan, they are small creatures with six spider like legs that poke out from holes within their bodies. Although they can withdraw them into their body to protect them from harm. Some bortlings have horns on top of their head believed to be used for ramming into rocks to eat minerals from them. A pair of intennia pop out of their heads although some lack this feature through some unknown mutation, these intennia provide them with sound detection in place of ears, allowing them to hear things considerably better than normal humans. Some bortlings have developed exposed brains within a green liquidy substance. Although the exact reason for this is unknown.
PHYSICAL INFORMATION
  • Breathes: Type I through III [Depending on level]
  • Average Height of Adults: 0.3048 meters (1 feet)
  • Average Length of Adults: N/A
  • Skin color: Tan, Variety can happen due to mutations
  • Hair color: N/A
  • Distinctions:
    • The Bortlings all look the same due to being breed within a laboratory. Compared to humans they have a small body with spider like legs that can withdraw back into their bodies to protect them from major harm. Most come with a tan coloration although some variety is noticeable due to common mutations. These mutations might include an extra eye, or undeveloped legs, horns for ramming into rocks and minerals. They have largeish mouths that can sprew acid, strong enough to break down even the toughest of substances. Most of them have antennae that allow them larger sound capacity, meaning that they can hear far better than humans can. Allowing them to pick up the sound of an ambushing predator from meters away. A rare variant among them will have their brains exposed within a green sticky substance. Since they are designed to look the same, Bortlings do not age in a traditional sense being the same color and everything when they finally die at their maximum age of 150.
  • Races:
    • Horned Bortling:
      • Horned Bortlings have developed a sharp pair of horns that protrude out of their heads, made of tough fiber layers that have been hardened for ramming purposes. Allowing them to break small rocks apart and devour them into their gullets.
    • Fire Bortling:
      • Fire Bortlings have developed a specialized organ within their bodies that allow them the ability to spew superhot flames. This organ was taken from the remains of the Arkanian Dragon Species. Although the flames of a bortling are not as strong as a full grown dragon.
    • Ice Bortling:
      • Ice Portlings have developed a specialized organ within their bodies that allow them the ability to spew ice breath. This organ was taken from the remains of a unique variant of wampas. Although the ice breath is lower in power when compared to that wampa due to its size.
    • Poison Bortling:
      • Poison Bortlings have developed specialized glans within their mouths that allow them to inject poison into a creature. Although this poison takes a considerable long time to take into affect. Meaning that someone can cure themselves easily without much effort.
  • Force Sensitivity:
    • Rare
Strengths:
  • Reproduction:
    • The Bortlings reproduce at a rapid pace, A queen bortling will lay about 500 eggs that hatch within the hour meaning that an entire colony of bortlings can emerge within a span of a few hours. They are considered a pest on board starships due to this and exterminating them fully can only be accomplished through killing the queen.
  • Small Size:
    • The Bortlings are small in size, allowing them to sneak into tight spaces and create colonies without much difficulty. This also allows them to maneuver out of the way of enemy fire and run away extremely quickly.
  • Easy Mutation:
    • The Bortlings are extremely easy to mutate due to their rather simple biology, meaning that a scientist can make a new variant within the span of a few minutes. This makes them perfect for genetic research and illegal experimentation because results can happen almost instantly in some cases.
  • Hungry Belly:
    • The Bortlings have extremely strong acid within their stomach, allowing them to digest almost everything that goes into their mouths. Allowing them to survive on many minerals and materials. Allowing them to regrow their hives quickly.
Weaknesses:
  • Little Durability:
    • The Bortlings are easy to kill, they have little to zero durability meaning that any kind of attack would promptly kill them without effort. Allowing predator's and opponents the chance to dispose of them without wasting much energy. Making them useless in a one v one confrontation.
  • Antenna Weakness:
    • The Bortlings have antenna on top of their heads that allow them to hear, if they are damaged in any way. The Bortlings will lose their hearing and have to rely on their eyes only. Meaning that an opponent as the chance to sneak up upon them without much concern.
CULTURE
  • Diet:
    • Omnivore | The Bortlings can consume a variety of different plants and animals to feed themselves. They also have the tendency to chew through wires and machinery parts to get their nutritions. They have a fondness of small insects and creatures because those are the easiest for them to hunt and find in large packs. Nothing is typically poisonous, but if someone were to make a poison food and feed it to them. Then they would die from it.
  • Communication:
    • Bortlings communicate through a series of croaks, sounding like bort. Which gives them their name, depending on how many bort sounds they do can indicate what they are thinking. A single bort can indicate that they are hungry while multiple borts in straight succession can indicate danger. Since Bortlings have the force they can develop a usage of telepathy to convey their thoughts.
  • Technology level:
    • They have no technology
  • Religion/Beliefs:
    • They have no belief system
  • General behavior:
    • The Bortlings live within hives on various planets, making homes within caves and underground tunnels. This provides them with some level of security from dangerous predators which are stronger and more powerful than them. They are split into worker bortlings and warrior bortlings, each having their own duties to perform for the hive. The worker bortlings will spend time looking for food within small groups of 10, allowing them some chance of survival against predators that happen to be around. They will also carry back large creatures that have been slain to feed to their queen. The warrior bortlings are typically a big bigger than worker bortlings, and are more aggressive. They will defend their homes without any thought because it is the residence of their queen. The Queen Bortling is bigger than the workers and the warrior bortlings, being the main reproduction factory for the hive. She has the ability to lay about 500 eggs that can hatch within the hour, they are sometimes split into 400 worker bortlings and 100 warrior bortlings that can be born. Although the reverse has happened due to common events. Eggs are raised within the queen's room, hatching then moved into the sections reserved for the warriors and worker bortlings.
HISTORICAL INFORMATION

The Bortlings were born within a Czerka Corporation Laboratory by Doctor Igor Romankoff and his small team of scientist. Czerka at the time was experimenting with different species and extracting their dna to be used for further creation efforts. Doctor Romankoff wanted to develop a fast reproductive species that would be able to devour bad crops and other materials. Taking several strands of dna and combining them over a short period of time into the Bortlings. Although the actual creation process was littered with problems due to the under-funded laboratory not having enough resources to speed up production. Romankoff was unmoved even without funding and begun to experiment within his chamber about creating the perfect species for the project.

Czerka did not want to finish the product due to switching to mainly arms manufacturing, almost shutting down the project and moving the equipment to other laboratories which produced results that the Chairman of the Board wanted for his vision of czerka. Romankoff would present the finished species prototype to the board of directors which overlooked the small creature and figured that if people were having problems with the Bortlings. They would acquire czerka weaponry to exterminate them on board their ships. The Chairman wanted them to be easily modified so that customers could change the bortling from the standard variant. This further experimentation would be given over to sith lords and force using organizations for study. Doctor Romankoff would disagree with the dicison to make them easily modified because all of the testing to create the species in the first place would have to be recalculated and updated. The Chairman pressed the issue, saying that he would fire the doctor if he refused to follow company policy. Faced with a room of heavily armed guardsman and the loss of a steady source of research income. Drove Romankoff to follow the chairman's orders and begin testing new dna to change the species further. After a few days of working within the laboratory, the bortlings would be developed exactly as ordered. Allowing them to be modified into anything that the creator chose because of their rather simple biology.

Queen Bortlings would be developed first, sending them to various planets nearby the laboratory to grow hives. These queens would reproduce extremely quickly upon those planets, allowing them to make small hives without much effort or time. Doctor Romankoff was impressed with the development of the species and further modified them with organs allowing them to devour certain metal and materials to feed themselves with. Czerka Corporation would then close off the system with the most bortling hives, allowing them to grow without interference. Although eventually the cost of maintaining this semi-blockade was far too great for czerka to handle. So they ended up withdrawing from the system. Doctor Romankoff would stay behind on the world, eventually being devoured by the very bortlings that he had created. Since then they have managed to survive throughout the years.

Weird, but oddly cute. Just one question before we move this on. You describe these creatures as Sentient, meaning that they have intelligence on a par with Humans and other such species. However, you also describe them as having no technology, no religion or beliefs, and extremely limited language. Their behavior seems to be more animal-like than humanlike. I would consider reclassifying them as either Non-Sentient, relying only on their natural instincts, or Semi-Sentient, with primitive language and problem-solving abilities.

If you want them to be fully sentient, I'd like to see something in the Technology and Religion / Beliefs fields.
