- Description: The Beacon Initiative is a charitable educational foundation founded by Adonis Angelis IV. - Domain: Beacon operates throughout Mandalorian space, with most of its attention given to worlds affected by war, occupation, displacement, and the instability that followed Mandalorian expansion. Its schools, known as Cressets, are meant to become part of the communities where they are established. Local teachers and workers are hired whenever possible, nearby businesses are contracted for supplies and services, and local history and culture remain part of the students' education.
Beacon also tries to make use of existing infrastructure rather than clearing land simply to establish a Mandalorian institution. Older schools, civic buildings, dormitories, and other suitable properties may be restored and adapted into Cressets where possible. New construction is generally reserved for places where the necessary infrastructure does not already exist.
Mandalorians remain a common sight within Beacon. Some teach, others serve as mentors, and many of the Initiative's earliest supporters come from Mandalorian society. They are expected to show the same respect toward local customs that Beacon expects its students to show toward theirs.

- Uyter Cresset: Beacon's first school, established on the agricultural world of Uyter. The Cresset sits outside the planet's major population centers and serves communities affected by the Mandalorian campaign on the world. Its powerful Mandalorian brutalist architecture rises against Uyter's otherwise agricultural landscape, visible across the surrounding fields without being part of a farm itself.
- Vaal Cresset: A second Cresset being developed on Vaal's grassy plains. It is going to serve as an advanced learning facility for Beacon's brightest students.

SOCIAL INFORMATION
Adonis Angelis IV founded Beacon and remains its principal patron, but the Initiative is largely run by Chancellor Lys Solan. Lys oversees its finances, expansion, educational standards, and senior staff while working with Adonis on its overall direction. Each Cresset is led by a headmaster and its own faculty, with enough independence to adapt the school to the community around it.
Beacon is independent from Adonis Angelis Industries. AAI provides a considerable amount of its funding and offers opportunities to graduates, but it does not own or administer the Initiative. Adonis and House Angelis remain its largest private benefactors.
Beacon accepts boys from impoverished, displaced, orphaned, and conflict-affected backgrounds. Students generally enter during childhood and may remain until roughly fourteen to sixteen years old, depending on their education, maturity, and circumstances. Tuition, housing, meals, school materials, and other basic needs are provided by the Initiative.
There is no requirement for a student to become Mandalorian. Those who already follow the Resol'nare are treated the same as everyone else, and a student who chooses to swear it while attending Beacon is free to do so. That decision does not give him any special treatment within the school.
Beacon helps its graduates move into the next stage of their lives. Some continue their education, while others enter paid apprenticeships with AAI or other participating employers. Graduates are also given a modest stipend, held in trust while they are still minors and intended to help them establish themselves once they reach adulthood. Those who choose to pursue a Mandalorian life may ask Adonis to personally sponsor them.
Students who do not become Mandalorian are not housed indefinitely after completing their Beacon education. The Initiative instead works to make sure they have somewhere to go and the means to begin whatever path they have chosen.
Keeping families connected is another priority. Beacon pays for one family visit each quarter when distance would otherwise prevent regular visits. Families living nearby can visit more frequently, particularly on weekends, and students may receive leave for deaths, serious illness, and other important family circumstances.
Displaced families can also be connected with housing, employment, and relocation programs. When possible, Beacon helps parents find work near a Cresset, including a limited number of positions within the school itself. Being related to a Beacon student does not move a family ahead of others waiting for assistance. Once their case has been processed through the appropriate channels, however, Beacon will often help cover transportation and other expenses needed to get them settled.
Life at a Cresset is structured and the expectations placed on its students are high. Academics come first. Physical education, organized sports, self-defense, basic combat training, survival, and practical skills supplement a student's regular education. Older students are given more opportunities to explore trades or prepare for further schooling.
Combat instruction is treated much like physical education rather than preparation for military service. Beacon expects its students to know how to protect themselves, but they are not trained or deployed as soldiers.
Discipline can be strict. Lying, theft, bullying, neglecting responsibilities, and similar behavior bring consequences, especially when they become a pattern. Punishments usually involve restitution, additional responsibilities, or losing privileges. Beacon does not throw students out simply because they are difficult. For many of its boys, losing their place at the school would mean having nowhere else to go.
Mandalorian culture is visible around the schools without dominating daily life. A Mandalorian instructor is just as likely to have his helmet sitting on his desk as he is to be wearing it through the halls. Local teachers work beside them, and Cressets are expected to feel like part of the world they were built on rather than Mandalorian enclaves.
Force-sensitive students are referred to qualified Force practitioners for evaluation and instruction rather than being trained by Beacon staff. Students who can safely remain at school may continue their regular education while receiving specialized instruction elsewhere. If more extensive training is needed, Beacon helps arrange an appropriate placement and continues to support the student through the transition.
Beacon has developed a complicated reputation before its first Cressets have even had the chance to prove themselves. On paper, the Initiative provides free education, housing, and a path forward for children who might otherwise have few options. Those who have dealt directly with Beacon generally find that it is exactly what it claims to be.
Convincing everyone else of that has been harder.
Critics of Mandalore have accused Beacon of being a propaganda project meant to clean up the Empire's image after its campaigns. Others see something colonial in Mandalorians establishing schools for children whose communities were disrupted by Mandalorian wars. The inclusion of combat training and Adonis' willingness to personally sponsor graduates who choose to become Mandalorians has only made those suspicions harder to shake.
Beacon's use of local staff, preservation of existing infrastructure, and insistence that Mandalorian customs remain voluntary are partly intended to prevent that influence from overwhelming the communities it is supposed to help. Critics remain unconvinced that good intentions are enough.
Some Mandalorians dislike Beacon for almost the opposite reason.
To them, rebuilding communities and educating the people left behind looks too much like apologizing for victory. Adonis has largely accepted that neither side is likely to be convinced by words alone and expects Beacon's reputation to depend on what its students eventually become.
Once a student is old enough to handle one responsibly, he is given a small fixed-blade utility knife. There is nothing particularly valuable or advanced about it. The knife is meant to be used.
Students carry them during practical lessons and use them for ordinary work such as preparing food, cutting rope, carving, trimming, and other small tasks. They are expected to learn how to safely use the blade, sharpen it, clean it, and know where it is at all times. Neglecting the knife or using it irresponsibly can result in losing the privilege of carrying it until that trust is earned back.
Over the years the knife becomes increasingly personal. Upon graduation, it belongs to the student permanently and he is encouraged to finish decorating the hilt himself. Cord wrapping, carvings, markings, and small keepsakes are common, leaving every graduate with a different version of the same simple tool he was originally entrusted with.
Every Beacon student is taught five basic principles, usually referred to simply as "the Five."
- Truth - Speak honestly, especially when the truth is difficult.
- Respect - Respect yourself, others, and cultures and traditions that are not your own.
- Responsibility - Own your actions, your mistakes, and their consequences.
- Protection - Strength carries a responsibility to protect those without it.
- Leave It Better - Leave every place, task, and community better than you found it.
The Five are used as the basis for discipline rather than an exhaustive list of school rules. Students are expected to keep their word, contribute to the school, make things right when they hurt someone, and accept the consequences when they fail to live up to those expectations. Food, shelter, education, safety, and reasonable contact with family are never taken away as punishment.
Respect applies equally to the adults responsible for Beacon. Mandalorian staff are expected to respect the cultures, traditions, and beliefs of the communities hosting them. Students are expected to respect Mandalorian customs encountered within Beacon without being required to adopt them.
The Resol'nare is not part of the Beacon Code. Mandalorian students may follow it and other students are free to learn about or eventually adopt it, but it remains a personal decision.
Beacon was created to give young men affected by war a stable place to grow up and the education needed to decide what comes next. Adonis has placed particular importance on worlds affected by Mandalorian campaigns. In his view, Mandalore's responsibility to a world does not necessarily end when the fighting does.
The Initiative hopes to establish Cressets throughout Mandalorian space as funding, local need, and circumstances allow. Each is intended to serve its surrounding community rather than follow an identical model imposed from Karth's Landing.
Beacon also hopes to build relationships with universities, tradesmen, businesses, and other institutions willing to take on its graduates. The Vaal Cresset is planned to eventually serve as one avenue for particularly promising students to pursue more advanced study and apprenticeships.
Success is ultimately measured by whether a boy leaves Beacon capable of building a life for himself. Becoming Mandalorian is one possible outcome, but it is only one.

HISTORICAL INFORMATION
The idea for Beacon began after Adonis Angelis IV returned from his captivity on Crucival. He had survived, but the experience changed him. He came back rougher than before, carrying considerably more anger with him, and found himself struggling more and more with the pull of the Dark Side. Working through that took time, and somewhere along the way Adonis decided that he needed something in his life that pointed in the opposite direction.
That idea eventually became Beacon.
Adonis had spent much of his adult life following
Aether Verd
from one war to another. He remained proud of that life, but had also seen what those wars looked like for the people who were still there after the Mandalorians moved on. He wanted to leave something behind besides battlefields and stories about who had won them. Giving children caught in the middle of those conflicts a real education seemed like a good place to start.
The name came from that same period in Adonis' life. Beacon was something he felt he needed himself, a light to keep sight of while struggling with the darker parts of what he had become. Individual schools eventually became known as Cressets, taking their name from the vessels once used to hold fires aloft. The school provides the place for that fire to take hold, while the education and the students themselves are what keep it burning.
Around the same time, Lys Solan had begun talking about wanting to make a name for herself beyond being Adonis' executive assistant. Adonis brought her into Beacon almost immediately and made her Chancellor. He supplied the money, connections, and original idea, then gave Lys room to turn it into something of her own. Much of the organization that exists today came out of the work the two did together afterward.
Yaga Minor was originally intended to host the first Cresset. Shifting Mandalorian priorities repeatedly got in the way. Plans for development in the southern territories were eventually abandoned as the Empire consolidated its power elsewhere, leaving the project without the opening Adonis had expected.
Uyter finally provided one.
Following the Mandalorian campaign there, Beacon began developing its first Cresset on the agricultural world. The school was deliberately placed within reach of the communities it was intended to serve without simply swallowing existing farmland or settlements. Its heavy Mandalorian architecture is hard to miss against Uyter's open landscape, and the Cresset can be seen on the horizon from farms well beyond its grounds.
Work on Vaal followed soon afterward. In Karth's Landing, Beacon took a different approach. Existing Vaalan structures were restored and adapted rather than cleared away for a new Mandalorian academy. Old stone, civic spaces, and the city's distinctive lightning-spire infrastructure were incorporated into the Cresset, with modern classrooms, dormitories, and other facilities added around them.
For now, Beacon is still young. Most of the Cressets Adonis and Lys imagine do not exist yet, and many of its traditions are only beginning to form. Whether the Initiative becomes the institution they hope for will depend less on what either of them intended and more on what happens once its boys grow up and carry what they learned there with them.
