“Just because I have waged war for the past forty years of my life does not mean that I cannot live without it. On the contrary, I wish very much for a day where order is restored to the galaxy. When that day comes, I hope to step back and find somewhere peaceful and quiet, somewhere where I can begin to heal the scars within me.” - Baron FN-999

OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION

SETTING INFORMATION
  • Structure Name: The Baron’s Estate
  • Classification: House
  • Location: Borosk
  • Affiliation: FN-999
  • Accessibility: The exact location of The Baron’s Estate is highly classified, known only to the Baron himself and guests invited by the Baron on a need-to-know basis. There is only one way to reasonably access the estate: by landing a ship on one of the fields near the estate, each able to hold a vessel no larger than a corvette.
  • Description: The Baron’s Estate is a comfortable house located far from civilization, surrounded by nothing but lush, undisturbed forests and gently rolling hills. The estate is small enough to be managed by the Baron alone yet large enough to give him room for guests and all the comforts he could ever hope for.
POINTS OF INTEREST
  • INTERIOR
    • FIRST FLOOR
      • The Mud Room: The first room that a being enters after walking through the front door is the mud room. The mud room is a small stone room containing a large leather mat and two stone benches with wooden baskets on top. The mat can be used to wipe dirt off of shoes and absorb water while shoes and coats can be stored in the baskets or under the bench.
      • The Living Room: After passing through the mud room, a short hallway leads to the living room. The living room is a cozy space filled with comfortable leather chairs and a sofa, with a television screen and holoprojector on the wall opposite the sofa. Two halls extend from the living room: right to the kitchen and straight ahead to the dining room.
      • The Kitchen: The kitchen is a modestly sized room fitted with an oven, microwave, toaster, fridge, freezer, and a well-stocked assortment of ingredients harvested on Borosk, many on the Baron’s own estate. A wide variety of kitchen tools and cookbooks are at the chef’s disposal to ensure the creation of a delicious meal.
      • The Dining Room: The dining room is dominated by a large, granite table surrounded by numerous wooden chairs. The dining room is also home to the largest windows in the Baron’s estate, including a pair of sliding glass doors that open into the backyard.
      • The Guest Room: The rightmost room in the estate, the guest room contains two twin beds and comfortable furnishings for any guest staying overnight. A pair of windows allow for views of both yards and the natural beauty beyond. The guest room can be accessed via a deadbolt locked titanium door whose key can be found under a black pot in the front yard gardens.
      • The Staircase: A spiral staircase of stone blocks leads up to the second floor and down to the basement. The staircase is centrally placed in the house, located in a short hallway between the living room and the dining room.
    • SECOND FLOOR
      • The Armory: Past the staircase and to the right is a titanium door with a six-digit combination lock (code: 164903). Behind the door is the Baron’s personal armory, equipped with pistols, rifles, anti-tank weapons, ammo, and extra sets of stormtrooper armor.
      • The Baron’s Room: To the left of the staircase stands another titanium door with a six-digit combination lock (code: 729384). Past the door is the Baron’s room, a fairly average-size room containing a wooden desk, chair, dresser, closet, and a twin-size bed. Two smaller rooms extend off the Baron’s room on either side: to the right is a bathroom with a shower while the left room contains a laundry machine and the master controls for all the estate’s security features.
      • The Work Room: To the right of the staircase and past the armory stands yet another titanium door with a six-digit combination lock (code: 502385). Behind the door is the Baron's home office, fitted with a wall-mounted desk, datapads, filing cabinets, and even a holoprojector to attend virtual meetings.
    • BASEMENT
      • The Gym: The basement is entirely occupied by the Baron’s personal gym, which is home to a wide variety of different weights and exercise machines. Many of them are in fairly good condition, though the Baron has been making use of his gym’s equipment more often in recent years.
      • The Bunker: A titanium plate on the far right corner of the gym leads to a ladder descending ten meters into the earth below the estate. At the bottom is a large, thick titanium door with a deadlock that can only be locked from inside. Past the door is the bunker itself, a thick titanium-reinforced duracrete structure designed to withstand an orbital bombardment. The bunker contains two rooms: a bedroom and a storage room with a year’s worth of provisions.
  • EXTERIOR
    • The Front Yard: The front yard of the Baron’s Estate is lightly paved close to the estate and grassy further out. A sandstone path leads from the end of the yard over to the front door of the estate.
    • The Backyard: The backyard of the Baron’s Estate is entirely unpaved and about twice as large as the front yard, with much of its area being a vast grassy field. Several private hiking trails extend off the perimeter of the backyard and into the woods beyond.
    • The Fields: The Baron’s Estate is surrounded by three open fields: two past the backyard and one past the front yard. Each field is flat enough for small ships to land on, allowing the Baron and invited guests to enter and exit the estate. When the fields are unoccupied, the Baron usually uses them for workout running.
    • The Gardens: In the front yard of the estate there is a large private garden filled with different species of flowers and trees native to Borosk. In general, the garden is fairly low-maintenance, but occasionally the Baron will tend to his plants. The gardens hold special importance to the Baron since he sees tending the plants as an opportunity to create life rather than death, thus reassuring him that he is still capable of such emotions as empathy and kindness.
    • The Tea Table: Tucked away in a corner of the backyard is a simple circular steel table with a small hole in its center in which a retractable umbrella has been placed. Surrounding the table are four wooden chairs, each evenly spaced apart from the others. It is at this table where the Baron often enjoys tea by himself or with guests on a pleasant Borosk afternoon.
SECURITY: High

A naturally paranoid man, the Baron of Borosk has put the utmost thought into fortifying his home.

A ring of remotely powered security cameras and motion detectors lay hidden in the forest in a two kilometer perimeter around the Baron’s estate. Upon detecting any large organism or sudden motion, alarms scattered throughout the house immediately go off, alerting the Baron and anyone else inside. Behind every window in the estate is a titanium plate, each of which is normally lowered into a slit in the wall but all of which can be raised in an instant at the press of a button in the Baron’s room. Every door in the building is reinforced in some form, from a retractable titanium plate that can cover the glass back doors to the combination locked second floor titanium doors.

HISTORICAL INFORMATION

For the first few years after becoming Baron of Borosk, FN-999 owned no property on Borosk itself.

At the insistence of his close friends and clinicians alike, the Baron acquired a personal estate on Borosk in 868 ABY. Also at their insistence, he built the estate far from Alge and Cassel Point, the two main settlements on the planet. After all, they reasoned, would it not be better for a commander recovering from the traumas of war to stay away from any possible symbol of the Imperial struggle, if only for a brief moment?

At first, the Baron objected to this arrangement, insisting that he build an estate closer to civilization so that he could more readily perform his military duties. However, over time, the Baron would come to better appreciate how much peace and quiet would benefit his state of mind.

For the first few years following the estate’s completion, the Baron visited it for only one or two days a year, being occupied on the front lines of numerous Imperial campaigns. However, as time passed and he grew more fond of the estate, the Baron began to visit it more frequently. The turning point came after the collapse of the Empire, after which the formerly highly mobile Baron set up shop on Borosk as he assisted with stabilizing the planet’s government. Increasingly stressed by his growing political responsibilities, the Baron began to take a breather at his estate and often preferred working from home over working in his office in Alge.

By 900 ABY, the Baron was spending two to three days a week in his estate, working in his home office, training in his gym, tending to the gardens, or doing any number of activities while surrounded by Borosk’s natural beauty.
