OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
  • Intent: To create a being that characters can evolve to after death

  • Links: None yet
GENERAL INFORMATION
  • Name: Baldr
  • Designation: Sentient
  • Origins: The are formed in the Nether
  • Average Lifespan: Is dependent upon host species, however due to the very nature of their existence and massive amounts of force energy present in their bodies they can live up to twice if not two and a half times as long as their host species (if said specimen were kept in perfect health). This however can be negated through damage, injuries, or otherwise outright killing the specimen (ie they're mortal just like everyone else).
  • Estimated Population: Semi-Unique To date only one has been spotted, but its existence certifies that more can exist
  • Description: This is what happens as a soul that has been sent to the Nether is exposed to the extremes that is present there, and it manages to maintain not only consciousness, but form. This can be caused by individuals of extreme will, power, or other aspects as they literally force themselves to survive in the chaos of the nether. The formation of a Baldr however can only be done if the entity in question is forced to manifest through struggle in the Nether, such as resisting being devoured by one of the many horrors of the Nether. The soul then manifests its interpretation of the body, and from here either the soul will fight against its threat and prevail, or perish and be devoured anyways. This constant threat of annihilation is what forces the soul to either consciously or subconsciously gather various force energies from the Nether to itself to make itself as strong as possible to face whatever threat before it.
PHYSICAL INFORMATION
  • Breathes: Same type of atmosphere as original host
  • Average Height of Adults: The same as original host
  • Average Length of Adults: Same as original host
  • Skin color: Corrupted Skin color runs a range of darker hues, also appearing ashen and otherwise having a dark aura. Uncorrupted have same skin color as original hosts.
  • Hair color: Corrupted are completely hairless, uncorrupted have same hair color as original host.
  • Distinctions: The entire body of the person when they're created matches perfectly to what their physical forms were in life, except while their body's physical structure is the same, their form is suffused in massive amounts of raw force energy. This allows their bodies to maintain peak physical condition or even that considered slightly above peak condition, alongside enhancing physical capabilities and recovery. For individuals that become corrupted, this is taken to an extreme, where their bodies become aspects of the dark side of the force, such as rage, hatred, pain, or others making them essentially revenants. This also causes extreme deformation in the body, making the skin go from ashen to possibly even black as coal, with the eyes and orifices glowing in red or other colored hues from the raw energy. Corrupted individuals only display basic intelligence, seeking only to destroy, feed their dark side aspect, and fight whatever is nearby.
  • Races: Again match physicality of individual in life.
  • Force Sensitivity: All
Strengths:
  • Essentially perfect specimens of their original species: The Baldr are formed in the Nether as a perfect recreation of their original species, without any defects or other genetic abnormalities present that they might have had during life. This combined with their ridiculous amount of force energy diffused throughout their entire body also keeps them in peak condition, if not slightly super compared to standard beings of that species. This means they can run faster, longer, are stronger, and also even heal better than they ever did during life. And while it has its limits, this is still a massive boon, as they can also function with much less sleep than a standard being before this transformation due to their inherent force abilities.
  • Corrupted take the physical abilities to the extreme: Those that give into their emotions and allow themselves to become "Corrupted" gain immense physical abilities compared to their standard forms. They are even stronger, faster, more violent and aggressive and are willing to stop at nothing to destroy anything in front of them. They also gain the ability to prevent themselves from natural deaths, so long as they have the willpower and hate to fuel their rage. This makes them monsters in a fight, making normally lethal blows seem like nothing, and not caring about the pain that is inflicted upon them.
  • Aging is extremely slowed: This is an effect from the raw amount of force energy present in each being, as its literal ambient effect keeps the body in peak or super capacity due to the adaptations that had to be made in the Nether. This causes the beings to heal faster than normal, and allow for the body to go on much longer than is natural for a being of that particular species. For some extremely long lived beings, it almost seems to stop their aging entirely. And while they are not immortal in the sense that they can still very easily die, for natural causes/time to take them becomes much more difficult.
  • Force Sensitives are even stronger: Force sensitives that have undergone this transformation, and that have training in their powers will still be able to use them post transformation, and find it even easier to use than normal. They will also find it easier to tap into larger reserves of force energy from within themselves, as wherein before an individual may have felt as a pond, after they will find themselves to have the ability of a lake. Granted this is less imperative for users at later levels of training as they tend to tap into resources outside of themselves, but this will still have an effect.
  • Non-Force sensitives will gain an "awareness": Non-Force Users will find that after their transformation, they will have acquired a "sixth" sense, that tells them when danger is coming. Especially when that danger is the kind of a creature of the Nether, or some kind of hostile aura such as a Sith/Jedi that is exceptionally powerful. This will serve them well as one of their biggest hunters is creatures of the Nether that they find themselves constantly doing battle against. This intuition won't be as effective as a Force User's ability to precog an opponent's moves however, instead being limited to there being danger nearby.
Weaknesses:
  • Corruption leads to madness: One of the biggest dividers in this species is the "Corrupted" and the "Uncorrupted". While the corrupted forms of this species gain increased physical, and some could even say greater basic force abilities this comes at an extreme cost. The corrupted lose all sense of self, becoming an aspect of the dark side of the force. This means that they have given in to emotions, their hatred, their rage, their pain, and have decided to let that be what drives them forward. This brings them to a barely above feral state, as they will use whatever they can get their claws on, and yes you read claws, as a weapon against anything and everything around them. They will pillage, burn, and destroy all around them to satisfy their lust for destruction and suffering, even consuming fellow Baldr to fuel their madness. And once a Baldr turns, it is extremely difficult to turn back, requiring either FU of extreme power or of extreme bond to the person, or some other way to break through the blood rage in the mind of the Corrupted. And the longer they are in this state, the harder it is to break through, meaning that if a Baldr is left too long it becomes impossible to return.
  • Much more sensitive to force attacks: Due to the amount of force energy already present in their bodies, Baldr are actually quite capable of not only enhancing force attacks against their opponents, but also themselves. This is due to the soul's subconscious constant attempts to gather as much force energy to itself to make itself stronger, an adaptation it developed in the Nether to survive. This makes a Baldr essentially a lightning rod for force attacks sent its way, and making the damage done to them that much more as without the force holding their physical bodies together, they will quickly fall apart. This also presents itself in a second problem listed below.
  • The corruption of the Dark side is especially potent: The Corrupted are beings that have given into the aspects of the Dark Side of the Force. This has twisted their minds and turned them into monsters, letting emotions rule instead of logic and reason. This presents a massive danger to any Baldr near Dark Side Force Nexuses, as the threat of corruption is now amplified not on a linear scale, but an exponential one, making them extremely more susceptible to changing into the monstrosities that are The Corrupted. But this is not just limited to Nexuses, as dark side artifacts, weapons, powers, or even auras are capable of causing this influence, making the Baldr very easy prey to those who wish to wield this to turn them into monsters.
  • Dark Side Force Users are near impossible: So due to the above weakness, there is a simple truth that can be inferred from it. If a person was a Dark Side Force User in life, their chances of becoming a Baldr and staying Uncorrupted is extremely low. This is for a variety of reasons, but none more so important than that the primary source of a Dark Side Force User's power comes from emotions, especially those like hate, fear, and anger. Whereas a Dark Side Force User in life may have been able to let their emotions run wild to perform various feats of Dark Side power, they will now have to restrict themselves immensely. And this restriction is not only in their use of the Dark side, but even the enjoyment that some get from using it, as the mere sympathetic emotions that occur when one has positively reinforced themselves to use Dark Side abilities can cause a change. And once they change, they'll lose all control over themselves, meaning that all of their training will be for naught as they'll become a barely above feral monster that only lives to destroy everything around it. Forever.
  • Corrupted can't control what causes the change to or changing back: So a major point of the corrupted is that they essentially become mindless killing machines that don't care about anything but destruction. They are one step away from being feral and that's only because they can and will utilize basic weapons or in some cases basic force abilities to augment their ability to tear apart people before them. They however have a key to being stopped. Namely by using Force Light (or a similar purifying ability) a strong enough Jedi (or light side force user) could in effect force a corrupted from its corrupted state. This however is extremely difficult and shouldn't be attempted alone, because the longer a corrupted has existed in that state, the stronger the will and power of the Jedi/LSFU will have to be in question. This can also be assisted through other means of the Force such as multiple force users coming together, drawing on friends and companions, or other sources of goodwill. A light side Force Nexus (if you happen to have one of those laying around) could also be used. However this does present the ability for a corrupted to be stopped without absolutely destroying it, and in some cases much easier.
  • Just because they slow or stop aging doesn't mean immortality: Simple as the title, they can still very easily die. They don't suddenly become blaster proof, lightsaber proof, or regenerate entire limbs (unless their base species does which in case I guess okay then). To put it simply, becoming a Baldr doesn't mean you become a god-like or even demi-god-like being. You still bleed, you still get tired, you still need to eat, you are every bit as mortal as a normal flesh and blood being. You just so happen to have a few "gifts" compared to the average joe.
  • To anything that uses the force to either hunt, or feeds off the force: So imagine having a giant neon spotlight pointed directly, at all times, at you. That you can never actually turn off, even if you're a Jedi Grandmaster without specifically cutting yourself off from the force via physical means (and even then, the Nether is still a very real threat so be aware). Meaning that everything in the local area that is able to sense through the force, or feeds on beings that are considered Force Sensitive, can not only tell exactly where you are, but will be drawn to you to attempt to devour you. This includes even beings in the Nether as while the veil is normally strong enough outside of distortions to keep both sides on their respective planes of existence, a group of two or more can cause such a great pull that even the veil itself can become distorted and allow for beasts of the Nether to roam and attempt to reclaim what it sees as escaped prey. So have fun never being able to sleep soundly ever again, because even in space you'll never, ever, be truly safe ever again.
CULTURE
  • Diet: What the original host ate during life.
  • Communication: Same as the original
  • Technology level: No change from host
  • Religion/Beliefs: This is a little bit complicated. On the one hand most would probably forsake whatever religion or belief system they had before their transformation, but on the other if this were to happen to a Jedi then it's possible they would maintain their beliefs. Up to player.
  • General behavior: This species is at their core two sides to a very twisted coin. On one side, the Uncorrupted are the epitome of their species, extremely disciplined, physically strong and capable, able to perform feats of extreme daring, will and physicality. But that is because they have to be these to have survived what they did to become what they are. And they will spend the rest of their natural lives looking over their shoulder and watching their backs as they never know where the next threat will come from, or when it will arrive. But they know it is always on the way. Meanwhile the Corrupted are the very embodiment of hell made flesh. They are pure aspects of the Dark Side of the Force, and exist only to cause suffering and pain to fuel their hatred and bloodlust. They care not who or what they destroy, so long as they are, and have no ability to discern who their "friends" might have been. To break through this haze of rage, pain, and savagery one must be exceptionally gifted in the force, or have formed an extremely close bond to the individual in life. And the Baldr will always live in fear not only for the physical threats that are either present or manifest when the Force sends whatever it may to reclaim their souls, but also the metaphysical threats of losing their mind to the corruption ever present.
HISTORICAL INFORMATION
The history of the Baldr is one that is very new to the galaxy. In that this being was never having recorded on any material at all, and even more rarely being seen, let alone outside of the Nether. This however would change with the death of Sergei Jachovich, of The Dire Wolves. His soul, due to its corruption and partial change due to the sheer amount of Sith Poison in his body during his death, didn't naturally pass on to the Nether like most did. In fact, when he arrived as a soul tethered to the Nocna Mora, it attempted to break him and devour his essence like so many others before him. What would come as a surprise to all present, was that the soul of a mere mortal not only resisted this, but would reform its physical manifestation in the Nether through sheer force of will alone.

And he would fight.

Taking up the swords he'd died with, Sergei would carve a bloody path through the Nether, through various souls, demons, and other beings of the Nether. Through all of his rage, all of his hatred, all of his pain, the Nocna Mora would follow in his wake, drinking in the destruction as Sergei's very soul would continue to change under the stress, the corruption, and the energy of each kill bathing over him and his blade. With each kill his strength would grow, the changes to his body become more apparent, more grotesque as he become a very monster himself in the Nether. A veritable Revenant, and thus, the first Baldr was born. Or at least the first recorded.

Baldr physiology is unique in that when Sergei was finally recovered and purified, doctors were amazed that upon examination his body seemed like a perfect specimen of humanity. It's genetic structure even matched his records almost perfectly with one major difference, all of the genetic abnormalities that are present in almost every human being (small mutations or lack of genetic code that causes each human to be different) were gone. Yet he resembled his old self almost perfectly, aside from a slight glow that one of the researchers noticed seeming to come from behind Sergei's eyes. The more apparent difference would show up however when a member of the Knights Obsidian would do an after action examination of Sergei. It was here that they discovered that like his Corrupted form, his entire body seemed to be infused with a massive amount of the Force. This discovery immediately explained how Sergei was able to heal in a remarkably short time after his injuries from his battles, and how his body was almost being preserved with aging seemingly stopped or extremely slowed due to the light side of the Force essentially keeping him alive. This discovery however immediately warranted further investigation as inside Hope multiple Force Users reported being able to feel Sergei's presence as an almost overwhelming beacon. So much so that many surmised that if he could be felt that easily, standing out in even a crowd of Force Users, that this would serve as a threat to him and any like him from those that preyed upon Force Users.

For now, this is where the researching and reports would end, as studies are still ongoing as to the very nature of the Baldr.

Hello! I will be reviewing your submission.

I really like this sub! Only a couple of things to go over before we get it approved.

  • Average Lifespan: After reading the Strengths I'd like to ask you to clarify this a bit more. Here you say that they have roughly the same lifespan as a regular member of the host species, with the possibility of extending this to an extreme (Corrupted Baldr) - but then there is a strength that claims they age slower that does not seem exclusive to the corrupted Baldr, which would suggest that non-corrupted Baldr also have a longer lifespan than a baseline member of their host species. Please specify the average lifespan of an uncorrupted Baldr and a corrupted one.
  • Weaknesses: Although I would feel comfortable approving the sub as is, I'd like to suggest adding a weakness to the Corrupted Baldr if this is something you'd consider. As is, these guys are quite powerful and don't have a lot holding them back besides their weakness to force based attacks and their berserker like rampage (which then again, could even work in their favor depending the scenario). Again, this is just a suggestion.

Fevris Derzelas Fevris Derzelas Okay thank you so much! Changes as follows.

Average Lifespan now reads as:

"Is dependent upon host species, however due to the very nature of their existence and massive amounts of force energy present in their bodies they can live up to twice if not two and a half times as long as their host species (if said specimen were kept in perfect health). This however can be negated through damage, injuries, or otherwise outright killing the specimen (ie they're mortal just like everyone else)."

I hope this clears up the issue that was presented. It's my intention that these creatures can only live in extreme longevity compared to the host race. For example if the average life span of a human was 100 years, a Baldr that came from the human race can live up to 250 years without requiring outside assistances to keep living longer. Which also to be fair I don't even know how that (trying to use cybernetic implants) would work because the reason their bodies age very slowly compared to normal beings is because of the amount of force energy they have within themselves.

Secondly I've added another weakness which I sorta hinted at in the description and other areas but I was hoping to not have to completely tip my hand on the corrupted (being that some people like to mix OOC and IC knowledge). It reads:

"Corrupted can't control what causes the change to or changing back: So a major point of the corrupted is that they essentially become mindless killing machines that don't care about anything but destruction. However this does present the ability for a corrupted to be stopped without absolutely destroying it, and in some cases much easier."

This allows for them to be defeated without fighting. At all. Provided it requires someone is either powerful enough or creative enough to get this type of pacification, but if the players prefer they can always just beat it down enough times that it finally just rolls over and dies. Which is the main point that even the corrupted for all their strength are still very mortal beings. They bleed, they feel hunger, definitely rage, and can die. It's just a bit more difficult to kill them outright than your average Nether crazy creature/Sith Spawn wannabe thingamajigger. Would I bet on an average squad of Joe Schmoe troopers vs one of these things? No. But is it possible for them to pull an upset and kill one? Absolutely. Also I've noticed that very few Jedi actually do the whole "Let's not fight unless absolutely necessary" and feel like this would be a rewarding thing for one of those who actually do that to stumble upon this weakness IC.

Thank you again for the review and look forward to your reply!

Both edits look perfect to me! ^^ However, I'm guessing the save button might have failed after you made them cause they are not present in the sub itself yet.

Let me know when you are able to get them in the sub and I'll gladly stamp this!
