Description:
The Ascendant, as it is called by those who wield it is a blade that was forged thousands of years ago by the Ember of Vahl.

The blade itself is within the grand scheme of things nothing special. A tool, more than it is a weapon, the dagger does not increase strength in the darkside, it does not make one more powerful, nor does it hold any real significance in the aspect of the force aside from its strange effects on those touch its blade. The Ascendant, until it cuts into its foe seems to be but an ornate blade, perhaps not even suitable for proper fighting.

The Dagger itself is made up of entirely of Black Aurodium, the solid gray to shadowy metal stinging through the item speckled with bright red blood rubies. An odd sort of red sheen seems to run over the blade, light reflected from its edge seems to hold a bloody hue. The Daggers forward curve and uncomfortable grip make it clear that the weapon was not designed for the comfort of the wielder. The blade seems to fit better in slender hands, its hooked guard pressing into larger fingers that would wrap around its hilt. The whole design of the blade, along with the forward angled edge seem counterproductive to any real fighting against another edged weapon.

Indeed the entire dagger appears to be unsuitable for combat if simply picked up. It's odd form and strange shape would require training and practice to properly utilize.

Of course, The Ascendant is meant for more than a simple tool of combat, more than any blade really. The Dagger is a tool, a way to test those that would ask, or those that are deemed worthy. The Ascendant is titled as such because it's chief duty is to create a trial. A trial of pain, agony, and torture as none have ever experienced. The blade was crafted eons ago for that express purpose, to be used as a tool, a guide into a new life.

The Ascendant was forged with blood. The weapon was created eons ago through means that are now lost. Black Aurodium was laid as a base, the metal worked and forged, crafted with the bit of Devaronian Blood Gems while simultaneously pressed with the darkside itself. The weapons was honed, It's edged crafted and smithed to perfection. The Ascendant was touched at every turn, the pain of the Devaronian Blood Poison ensured and the quality of the blade perfected. Over and over the Dagger was pressed and folded, made into utter perfection until it was finished and quenched within vats of Sith Poison. The blade was finished, and then it was tested.

A single cut from The Ascendant is pain incarnate.

The weapon was forged and designed to be agony defined. A simple nick from the blade with spread Sith and Devaronian Blood Poison into the victims veins. They will begin to experience pain and agony on an unbelievable level. The works of the Devaornian Blood Poision spiking through them while the Sith Poision begins to act an enhancer. The pain they feel fuels their need for the darkside, and slowly those who have been touched by The Ascendant begin to fall*. The combination of these two poison's, the pain they bring about and the utter ruin they place upon a being is enough to see most beings dead.

Only the strongest can survive the bite of the Ascendant, and only the most brace suffer its touch willingly.

The Ascendant is used as a tool by the Vahla, a test. Those who would see themselves as the greatest, as the most powerful, or those are deemed worthy by Vahla herself are touched by the Ascendant. They suffer in agony for days on end, and if they survive, they ascend to something greater. Greater control, greater focus, and perhaps, greater power.

*Obviously this is a character choice, The Ascendant does not guarantee a fall to the darkside.

There is no canonical mention of black aurodium, though I presume it is simply a different colored variation of the precious metal. Aurodium itself is incredibly valuable, here's an excerpt from the wookiepedia page which gives an example of how costly it could be:
In 29 BBY, ten large ingots of aurodium were worth three billion credits; however, although the ingots were considered large, all of them were combined small enough to keep inside a pouch that was easily concealed on a person.
Based on this, I'm going to ask if black aurodium is a less rare and less valuable/expensive material, as this would be a rather expensive dagger if not. If not, I'd suggest adding another metal to blend with the aurodium to lessen this.

Black Aurodium is much like White Gold. It would simply be Aurodium mixed with one or more metals that are darker/black, probably simple iron or something of that sort. Said mixture would significantly reduce the cost and amount of Aurodium needed.

Also, given that this was created by ancient Vahla who were known pirates, thieves, and all around bad people I would say they just stole the Aurodium needed anyway.
