PRODUCTION INFORMATION
TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS
  • Classification: Mass Driver Cannon
  • Size: Very Large
  • Weight: Heavy
  • Ammunition Type: Depleted Baradium Shells
  • Ammunition Capacity: Extremely Large
  • Effective Range: Average - Long Range
  • Rate of Fire: Average
  • Damage Output: High
  • Recoil: Average
SPECIAL FEATURES
  • The Taygete is a 406mm Depleted Baradium Shell, with an animated metal sealant for its jacket.
  • Shells are typically packed with thermite, and all shells are packed with an electromagnetic exciter disk in the rear of the shell.
  • An anti-ion mesh lines the shell beneath the animated metal sealant.
  • There are some shells that are packed with collapsium gas, and liquid baradium.
  • Ionization of the shell may be done by enabling the artillery unit’s ionization field.
  • There is an option to pack shells with ball bearings with the idea to create more shrapnel upon impact. [Ball Bearing] The Taygete’s ball bearings are specifically made from crystadurium and coated in ardanium.
  • Encapsulated tibanna gas accompanied by baradium-impregnated detonite encased in a conductive shell, can also be packed into shells. [Plasma]
  • Thermite gel along with encased CryoBan chemicals, and capsules of liquid carbonite can also be packed into the shells, they also include g-20 glop grenade components. The tip of this shell includes a proximity sensor that triggers a flash-freezing effect on impact. These shells are kept in a boreas crystal-powered cold storage unit until ready for use. [Freeze]
  • An armor-piercing capped, ballistic cap made with nylasteel as its outermost layer, followed by ceramasteel and reinforced by a layer of tekonite. The penetrative cap is made of alusteel, reinforced by durasteel. This houses the thermite packed with encapsulated Rhydonium. The rest of the shell’s components match that of a basic 406mm shell. [APCBC]
  • Fast track mounting and fire-link capable, built-in heuristic data processing for performance improvement.
  • Single target tracking, and automated lock-on/lead system.
  • Internal temperature check, automated fail-safe and containment system.
  • Range-finder and built-in range sensors, automated warning for incoming fire.
  • Gauss/coil firing-mechanisms, electromagnetic rails.
  • Dedicated power generator with crystal chamber matrix featuring boreas and energy crystals. Includes heatsinks, fans and built-in cooling devices to prevent the cannon from overheating.
  • Remote-activated exciter disk sensor system, remote detonation monitor, emergency detonation override system.
  • Triple-barrel design allows for more effective damage output, with an option for a twin-barrel design.
STRENGTHS
  • Impact: A hard-hitting shell that is meant to create a devastating effect upon impact.
WEAKNESSES
  • Range: Unable to effectively engage in short-range combat.
  • Size: Unable to effectively hit targets smaller than twenty-five meters.
  • EMP/Ion: Can be affected by EMP/Ion weapons.
DESCRIPTION

Development for the Taygete followed that of the Polemos sharing the philosophy of a dedicated power generator, and shells made specifically for the cannon. The Taygete launches 406mm shells as opposed to 203mm. There are a variety of shells in which it can launch, each have an animated metal sealant jacket, shells can be launched as is or packed with different explosive ordnance materials to create a variety of effects on impact.

The Taygete is part of Primo Victorian’s Avalonian Project, this project is dedicated to upgrading and modernizing the company’s arsenal. The Taygete is a step between the Polemos and the company’s 512mm cannon the Aries. The cannon is able to make use of two unique shells to it, the first of which is a ‘Freeze’ shell. The purpose of this is to make a starship’s hull or hull armor brittle and more susceptible to break during combat.

The second is the APCBC, or armor-piercing capped, ballistic cap designed as a follow up to the freeze shell or as an opening salvo for other artillery units. Like the Polemos each shell has a small electromagnetic exciter disk. The shells are equipped with miniature sensor systems to ensure exciter disks are ignited - and in case of failure that the shell’s contents are ignited.

Taygete is capable of fast-track mounting and can be fire linked. It features either a twin-barrel or triple-barrel, or ‘triple gun’ design to increase damage output, and utilizes gauss/coil firing mechanisms which ensures that the Taygete is able to engage in long-range combat, in addition to standard turbolaser combat range.

I feel like I'm missing something here in the balancing scheme, so either of you feel free to correct me if I'm missing something:

Production: Minor (-1)
Size: Large (-1)
Mass: Heavy (-1)
Ammunition Capacity: Extremely Large (+3)
Effective Range: Long-Range (+1) <-(I'm specifically choosing long-range here since it's the highest powered rating)
Damage Output: High (+1)

This looks like it's 2 ratings over-powered to me.
