Taste Azure Steel! (Azure Imperium)

The small band of ships had kept to themselves, for quite some time...until now. Now, the call had been sent. The beginnings of a contingency plan. Their leader, the Banished Metal Lord had sent out a signal. Three Abregado War Galleys accompanied by a single Revenant class Star Cruiser had taken this as their target. A small sensor station. The station just upon the outlying reaches of a rising Imperium. A warning was sent out before the jamming begun, blocking any further communications.

These four vessels closed in, the Galleys forming an arrow formation in front of the Revenant Star Cruiser. With no warnings, the Galleys began to open fire upon the station. Aiming for any defenses and shields. Meanwhile, several squadrons of T-32 Valkyries and V7-Fenrirs deployed from the cruiser, protecting boarding craft.

All of them converged on the station, with a goal in mind. Which had yet to be known by the defenders. But the distress signal had gotten out before they were jammed, so now it was only a matter of time.

Theodora pondered the benefits of starting a training exercise in the vast reaches of the Imperium's millitary, how much time and effort would have to be put into replacing weaponry with dummies, configuring shielding systems, configuring weapon power levels... it all seemed a little too much. The idea had spawned from a senior officer who, much like the rest of a small interplanetary patrol fleet grew tired of false flag operations and mobilizing hundreds of ships to respond to such little threats; infact that's why these small patrols were set up, to make sure attacks were legitimate and measure an appropriate level of armed response.

The crew's apathy towards the recent distress call almost persuaded Theodora to ignore it, but she knew there'd be hell to pay if she did.

"I didn't even know we manned sensor stations... do we?"

The only response she received was from a communications officer that shrugged her shoulders.

"No matter. Set course for the aforementioned sector, jump out of its expected engagement range; we're lightly armed after all." her right hand flickered to a small button, broadcasting to the general patrol channel which most ships would be listening in on. "Imperial Patrol fleet Zeta investigating most recent incident. ETA 10 minutes."

The newly acquisitioned ships which were purchased at a bargain price thanks to the recent downfall of an intergalactic trading conglomerate were usually enough to dispatch the average raiders, but as the Imperium were about to find out, these were no ordinary raiders...

'Why don't you take a tip with the fleet Luna, it might be fun to watch a training exercise.'

The soft blaring of klaxon accompanied the woman as she paced down the corridor towards the bridge. It wasn't that she thought that the ship would be in any danger, the Imperial Navy was too good for that, she just hadn't expected to run into an actual combat situation now. This might be something that most of the military was used to but she'd always been more of a prepare then attack person, and the sudden blast of the alarms shaking her out of her sleep had left Lunara a little shaken. Still, her hands curled into fists at her side as she focused on projecting an aura of cool and calm, it wouldn't do to seem thrown or anything. There wasn't much she could do now, but she could at least present a confident image to help the crew.

Not that she was helping much right now, in fact, she was sure the tramp of the heavy armour of the two members of the praetorian guard behind her was responsible for the way the corridor in front of her suddenly managed to clear itself of people. She'd turn and tell them to go and wait with the marines if she thought it'd do any good, but she was sure that they'd just ignore her. A sigh escaped her lips as she rounded the corner to the bridge, nodding at the members of the crew who saluted as she passed. The guard behind her to the left made a gesture to the marines guarding the doorway, the entryway to the bridge, the two legionnaires snapping to attention and backing off as the Praetorian took up a position flanking the door like two golden statues as the white-haired princess paused to take a deep breath, eyes closed for a moment. Shadowed as she was by the guard it was the closest to privacy she'd get, out of sight of anyone approaching she could show a hint of nervousness, of trepidation. Only for a moment though, then her eyes snapped open, blue orbs filled with resolve as she thumbed open the doorway.

"Centurion, permission to enter?" Whatever rank you were, you always asked permission to enter the bridge, even if you were the Emperor himself.

The droid forces pushed onward towards the station. There was little defense for it, such as a small detachment of fighters and fixed cannons upon the station, targeting enemy drone fighters. The stations shielding continued to take heavy hits from passing Valkyrie fighters and the War Galleys. A few of the stations fighters that attempted to engage the droid ships were shredded by heavy fire. It seemed almost like a swarm of flies from the droid ships. Boarding vessels among them, zooming for the metal hull of the station.

However, the droid ships had not been keeping a watch out for any enemy vessels entering the space nearby. For now, those that arrive had the jump on the rogue droid forces.

Theodora's head quipped round slightly as she heard her name being called from someone behind the bridge's door. As to who was still sticking to formalities on such a job left the Centurion baffled, and so she assumed this was either the newest recruit into the entire military or the Praetor themselves. The unexplained arrival of one of a superior was unlikely, and so she assumed the former. Her hand gestured for one of the Junior Officers to attend to the door as she scoped the vastness of space through a viewport.

"Optio, would you so kindly open me a communication link with whatever that fleet out there is?"

After a few seconds, the ship went unusually quiet. Theodora had assumed it was to allow her to coherently relay a message to the unknown presence in the system, but she couldn't be more incorrect.

"You are being submitted to a random cargo check due to a security alert in the system.. Failure to abide by this check and any further orders issued by Imperium Customs Patrols will permit us to use lethal force to determine your cargo."

The line closed, and moments later Theodora scanned the bridge once more seeing the dead silence of all the officers and staff at hand. Swiveling herself around to see just who this unknown person was, she swiftly stopped dead as she took a step forward and took a bow out of courtesy.

"Oh m-my princess. I apologize for my lack of manners." She kept her head tilted towards the ground, unsure of just exactly what the procedures were for interacting with royalty. After a few seconds she raised once more, and looked around the bridge again before beginning to bark orders. "Prepare for hostile action." Yet still, nobody moved. "I said prepare for hostile actions!" raising her voice.

The quiet murmur that was usually present on the bridge continued, and all individual members returned to their duty. Theodora spun around once more to face the princess, unsure of what to say.

"Not at all, you have rather more important things to do right now than worry about one passenger's idle curiosity after all." Lunara stepped onto the bridge, the heavy door sliding shut behind her with a nearly inaudible clang of the metal hitting metal. The bridge had seemed to freeze for a moment as if she'd trapped them all in stasis, a spell that held them all still for a moment that stretched into one, two heartbeats before the Centurion's voice broke the stillness, ordering her bridge crew back to their stations. There might have been a guilty expression as she padded across the floor to stand next to [member="Theodora"], one hand resting on the woman's chair as she stared at the screen.

"I'm sorry to...disrupt your bridge like this it's just...difficult hearing the klaxons and knowing the ship is going into a fight but not seeing or being able to do anything." It wasn't a feeling that the white-haired woman was used too. This whole shipboard combat thing was different from any fight she'd ever been in, at a remove, a step back. All the movement, all the attacks done so far away from you that you couldn't see them, or could only see them from a sensor screen. She had always fought an enemy that she could see, not an enemy so far away that she couldn't affect them. Well, that wasn't entirely true, she could reach out with the light to touch them, or had heard of people who could do that. Sadly, her powers fell short of that impressive hurdle, instead, all she could do was stand here, waiting. Or...maybe not, she could feel the bridge crew, the bustle of their thoughts, the focus of their intent. She'd heard about this, of people who could use their minds to improve people's morale and reaction. Lunara bit her lip for a moment in thought as her eyes settled on the screen, "Do you think they'll stop, or are we going to have to fight?"

The droid commander aboard the Revenant vessel received the communication. And merely laughed at it. But not before opening the communication back, allowing a rattled metallic laugh to seep through. One with cruel intentions behind it. The Imperium ships were still not detected, but that did not matter as of right now. Their target was the station, and the station alone. Any that came in between would become a secondary objective. The laugh was all that would be heard before being cut, leaving intentions unknown. The ships continued raining their fire, but being careful not to damage their own ships.

Boarding pods rammed into the sides of the station, cleaving through the hull before opening up to allow entry for droids. A mix of droids. Some looking old and worn while others more so shiny and new. All armed with a mix of vibroblades, blasters and slugthrowers. First wave defenders held their line best they could. But this station had been more looking like a normal station, with no Imperium colors. A cover one might say, as the Imperium had been laying till now.

One stood out among the rest. Adorned with golden colors to symbolize a higher presence than the rest. Armed with a repeating blaster and standing taller than some of those around it. It gave out low groans and beeps as orders, pointing in different directions.

"Well you aren't a regular passenger, in the grand terms of realpolitik, arguably, you're the most important person on this ship." the period of stillness was now interrupted again by another klaxon, which drove Theodora's anger levels slightly higher. "Who keeps pressing that red alert button? I think we're all very aware that there are hostile ships within the sector!" afterwards slumping into her chair and releasing some pent up rage through gripping the armrest, the cold metal draining some of her red hot fury.

One lone officer turned and saluted to Theodora, replying in a slightly droning voice. "It's procedure ma'am, upon de-..."

The Centurion cut his voice off, glancing down at him with a piercing stare. "I don't need lectured on procedure, Optio. Return to your post." He saluted once more and swiveled around to the control station, pressing a series of buttons. Sighing, she then tilted her head to look at Lunara, attempting to elicit some sort of sympathy from the princess in response to the idiocy of managing a fleet with only fresh recruits. She then lowered her voice in volume, barely even whispering at this point. "There's no way we can engage these ships in combat. If they don't obey the disengage order we'll need to wait for, at the very least, some reinforcements."

Just as Lunara questioned the Centurion again, the very same Optio swiveled around and began speaking again. "We have reports from the station, it appears the enemy has engaged a boarding action, the communicating officer stopped transmitting suddenly after they said this."

Theodora sighed once again, before barking some orders. "Position us as close as possible to the station without being in the hostile fleet's targeting range. Only open fire if they are actively targeting us or the ship with their weapon systems." her head tilted to the communications officer, "and you, put out a distress signal requesting all availible patrol fleets to assist us in this operation." and then to another officer who was not already engaged, "and you, open me a transmission with the ship again."

"You have been issued a warning previously by this Customs Patrol Fleet, disengage all ships from combat or we will be permitted to use lethal force against your vessels."

The looming thought of performing poorly infront of the princess spurred her to have some hope, but she knew the current situation was unwinnable with the forces they had.

Slasharr stood on her bridge as she came out of hyperspace. She had heard a distress signal and was hoping to be a pirate stealing or looting whatever had made the distress signal when she arrived however she saw two ships near as station as it was being boarded by another four. Was this a war zone or perhaps another pirate had chanced apon the same signal she had hoping to do the same thing.

She would wait for perhaps a little while longer, see who she thought were allies and enemies by their comm signals. She was very crafty after all as this wasn't all of her fleet. The rest were causing havoc elsewhere but could be summoned to assist her if needed. For now however she would wait to see which side to hit first or perhaps which side to ally with if needs be. From the squawk of the main two ships though they were those imperium fools. The others unknowns but sounded like they were droids most likely. She still had some time.

"Well you aren't a regular passenger, in the grand terms of realpolitik, arguably, you're the most important person on this ship."

Lunara's fingers tightened imperceptibly on the back of Theodora's chair, there was no denying the truth in those words, or the separation they created, the split between herself and the rest of the crew on the ship. She could watch and listen but never belong, never be a part of the crew in the same way as their centurion. While the sea of orders and action washed over her like a wave the other woman rode it, directed it and for a moment Luna couldn't help but be the slightest bit jealous. The woman seemed to have that effortless air of command she had to try so hard to emulate, a small sad smile touched the young woman's face as she turned her gaze away from the screen, observing the woman sitting in the centre of the bridge. "In realpolitik, sure but in terms of practicality? Right now even the newets member of your crew is vastly more important than I am, you're all part of the team," her lips quirked up into a smile, her voice dropping to a whisper meant for Theodora and no-one else, "even if that team might be a little bit by the book right now."

The princess' head nodded at Theodora's admission, teeth sinking into the soft flesh of her lower lip as her eyes flicked up towards the screen again, staring daggers at the ships that had settled close to the station. She could see a cloud of debris drifting away from the side of the station as her hand clenched at her side is frustration. "Is there any way we can get our own troops onto the station?" Her head nodded at the debris that was starting to drift away from the embattled structure. "A small station like this, it's never going to have the trained troops on board to handle anything the likes of what they're about to face." She'd seen the devastation trained troops could do in an enclosed space. If it was right in front of her, she didn't want to leave them alone, to let others suffer for no reason. But there was no way to walk over, a barrier that was nothing, and yet was as impassable as a wall between them. The emptiness of the void, and the terrifying heat of the turbolasers arrayed against them. Lunara's eyes flicked away from the screen, running over the crew, faces drawn as they focused on the tasks at hand, not willing to even look up, glance left or right as hands flew over controls. The young woman swallowed, chiding herself for her words as she glanced at the Centurion again, "Or at least a way to help them that doesn't put you all in danger." It was the struggle of command, to need to protect everyone, and while she wasn't the commander of his mission, she could still feel the pressure and empathise with the woman.

The droid fleet held it's position as other ships arrived. Being detected visually once they came upon the station, moving onto the opposite side of it. Other ships came in but the main focus for the droid forces were those that were sided with the station. For now, they did nothing and in fact did halt firing upon the station after the warning was issued. That was when it came, a communication line between the main vessel and the Imperium capital vessel. The droid admiral wished to speak. "Greetings to you all, you fleshy things. A great time you have arrived at, we were just cleaning up here." The droid sounded so confident in itself as all the ships held their positioning.

As the droid admiral held conversation the boarding forces did not halt their push. Moving through the station at a hauntingly slow pace, almost as if taunting the defenders. Pushing over and over, moving over all the lost souls aboard like a steel slow breeze. Cutting them down one by one. Even though many droids had been lost also.

[member="Lunara Azure"] [member="Slasharr Grrasher"] [member="Theodora"]

"In terms of practicality I'm sure you're a lot more useful than..." she paused, glancing to her right seeing two officers bump into eachother and drop a pile of papers "... these imbeciles. You're trained in the force I assume, only because I know you are entwined with the Church. That could be something that could tip the scales in our favor.." she paused once again, looking off into the distance. From her own eye view, she could see that the raiding fleet had stopped firing; though that mattered little at the moment. The space station had been battered heavily, sustaining damage to core systems. Moments ago it seemed the exterior shields had broken under the sustained pressure from the various weapon systems of the opposing fleet.

Jumping slightly as the communications officer informed Theodora that the droid was now requesting to speak to her, a sigh of relief released from her lungs as she hoped they would simply surrender. Of course, things were never that easy.

"Greetings to you all, you fleshy things. A great time you have arrived at, we were just cleaning up here."

"If you continue your assault on that space station I will be shoving my blaster so far down you-..." she gathered herself. The comments the droid made her red hot with fury. "You have precisely 60 seconds to stop your assault before I open fire on your ships. You have disobeyed our orders twice now." She nodded to the communications officer, indicating for them to stop the transmission.

Her head turned once more to [member="Lunara Azure"], listening intently to her suggestions. She nodded, and stood up without replying directly to the princess. "All non-essential staff equip combat equipment. The princess will be leading a counter-boarding action on the station in order to defeat the hostile force." She reared her head back again, smiling at the woman. At first, the bridge was brought into a state of confusion, but the realization that this was actually much safer than sitting inside a lightly equipped frigate eased the soldier's minds. Around half of all the personnel on the ship made way for the locker area.

"I know this is perhaps outside of your regular skill range, but I am a naval officer myself. I'm usually not in the thick of combat, and while I would offer to go myself..." she looked around, gazing back again shortly after "-... given I have donated half of the vessel's staff to this incursion, I will have to manage the abandoned posts myself."

A wry smile tugged up the corner of the princess's lips as she straightened up, her hand falling away from the back of Theodora's chair as the white-haired woman snapped off a passable military salute. She was horribly out of practice, Lunara knew that but it was enough to convey the point, her acceptance of the command. At least outwardly, internally the young woman had no idea what she was doing. She'd never actually been involved in a boarding action before most of her involvement with the military had been on the ground, being escorted in to deal with a situation before being whisked away to the next one. She couldn't exactly say she was prepared to lead in this situation but then...it didn't seem like any of them were right? "I think given the choice I'll take the crazy people shooting up the station over trying to fly a ship with half a crew, unless you know you want to end up parked somewhere in the middle of all that." Crashing surely couldn't be that hard, could it? She could probably manage that much but she had the feeling the Centurion wouldn't be all that happy with her if she ended up scratching the paint job.

The woman spun on one heel, making for the bridge door as she shot a grin at belaboured commander just before reaching the door. "I promise not to let them get too banged up." That much she could do right? It couldn't be too hard to get in and stop the boarders while not risking anyone lives...ok so maybe a little harder than she'd thought. What Marcus had mentioned about the burden of command suddenly made a lot more sense. The two objectives seemed widely incompatible, but she'd find a way to make it work. Lunara tilted her head up, staring at the polished helmets of the Imperial Guards who had swung into place behind her, "So any advice, anything you come up with would be really useful right about now." Two helmets turned to stare at one another before glancing down at the woman, "Don't hesitate, you'll get more people hurt questioning your decisions than you ever would be actually stepping forward and doing something. Even if it was the wrong thing." "Right, I can do that...lets go see how close the Centurion can get us to the station."

[member="Theodora"] | [member="C-02"] | [member="Slasharr Grrasher"] |

Stop your assault? The droid laughed upon hearing that. And it made sure that the laugh was broadcast. It would let them hear the response at the ridiculous notion. Scanners picked up other ships. And judging by how there was no contact between the two fleets, the droid would have grinned at what it assumed if it could grin. "Open comms to the new arrivals" the droid commanded to the bridge crew. A connection would be established, and the droid would then speak through out to them. "If you have any semblance of sanity within you, whomever you are, you will strike them where they stand. I do not know if you take credits or something but I promise my leader will pay handsomely."

New orders were given to the ships. The Galleys were directed to turn their attention to the approaching fleet, slowly turning to their sides as they moved into new positions. Fighters pulled away back to their capital ship of the small strike force as the Revenant stopped firing any weapons.

Meanwhile, aboard the station the hangars were being pushed upon as the invading force continued it's push. Half of the forces they attacked they left alive, walking over those injured and out cold, or those that lay dead. The lead droid keeping right to the front of the attacking force.

As soon as Lunara exited the bridge, Theodora's face turned red hot with fury. "Well this is going splendidly, about as much as I could expect from you dimwits!" shouting at the top of her lungs across the bridge. When the droid made a snide remark in the form of its mechanical laughing, she furiously smashed her fist into the control panel ceasing communications with it.

"Open fire on whatever the heck is targeting us and launch the transport shuttle!" The air of the room became a borderline panic as the rather poor model of the Y-Defender Class Frigate attempted to keep up with the far more advanced weaponry prevented by the raiders. Theodora began simulating a way to ram the escort frigate into that cruiser and somehow pull a victory out of this; though an almost spontaneous ray of lux projected into the viewports of the bridge. For a second, Theodora had wondered if the Gods had somehow managed to throw another curveball in her otherwise perfect day, but then she spotted the rather outspoken design of the ship; it's friendly.

A sigh of relief escaped her lungs. It seemed someone competent was on her side for today. Orders were not required as the rest of the crew began spotting the ship; relaying the rough battleplan devised, at which point the new addition to the Imperium's navy began moving in to support the patrol fleet.

It was as though this ship was brought in to replace the now completely disabled Beta, as when the shuttles had finally launched there was not a single communication coming from them. Rather than send her blood pressure skyrocketing, she ignored the now almost dead looking frigate floating alone and focused on providing cover for the rather undefended transport shuttle, now launched.

No-one had mentioned how terrifying this was, to throw yourself into space in a tin can with only a thing shield and what felt like a thinner skin of metal between yourself and the cold vacuum of space. Forget the potential for enemy fire when they got to the station itself, the risk of being shot and killed, Lunara had faced that before but at least she'd be on her own feet and if she got shot it was because she wasn't fast enough or good enough to face it. This though, this was pure reliance on someone else's skills to get you where you needed to go, and that was the most terrifying part. Oh, Lunara knew that the Navy didn't just have any old pilots in it, that the man in the cockpit was more than capable of handling the flight. Still, the young woman closed her eyes and gripped the restraints of her harness just that little bit harder, she had to admit she'd found a new found respect for all the members of the military, the people who did this every day. This time...it was only a short flight...right?

As if sent by the will of the force, two separate groups of ships dropped out of hyperspace to surround the area of operations. The Azure Imperium's primary command fleet had arrived, and with it came Grand High Admiral Cyrus Drakon.

The distress beacon from the sensor station had gotten the Grand High Admiral's curiosity, but Patrol Fleet Zeta's insistence on responding to it had earned his undivided attention. Princess Lunara was attached to that fleet, giving the matter a far greater urgency. There could be no margin for error or failure. This matter had to be addressed with overwhelming force. And so as the Imperial Command fleet exited hyperspace, Cyrus Drakon sat at the bridge of the Gloria, pipe in his mouth and eyes wide open. Immediately he began giving orders.

"All ships, hold your fire. Captain, get the Princess's position and mark it for the rest of the fleet, so they know where not to shoot. Last thing we need is her flying right into our firing arcs." He took a deep puff and blew out a light cloud of smoke. They had more than enough firepower to decimate the pirates, that was for sure. But could they do so with minimal risk of friendly fire?

Cannon fire was everywhere. Lasers lanced through fighters that happened to pass by, or by enemy fighters. T-32's laying out heavy turbolaser fire to ship shields and the station, while V7 interceptors struck against fighters deployed by Azure's fleet. The War Galley's targeted the few Imperium fleet ships, unleashing volley's of their forward turbolasers with their quad-cannons taking on the fighters. The single Revenant however held it's position, all it's weapons capable turned on all ships. Couple of proton torpedoes firing out. Then, another ship arrived, headed for the one Imperium ship behind the station.

Their droid leader laughed over comms, making sure they heard. All of them would feel the sarcastic feelings from the droid, the lack of pure emotion. The station droid leader could hear as well, and laughed with them. Laughing out loud down the halls of the station. At least half of the station had been secured by now, and it looked all in their favor...

"Incoming signatures!" The ship commander turned to a droid in the bridge, stalking over to it. Multiple signatures? Not just a few...this was an entire battlegroup! Perhaps even two! "No...no this was not meant to...no!" Half of the fighters turned on the new fleet that had arrived, as well as all but one War Galley turning towards them. The Revenant also turning towards them.
