The Tarsi-Kapshan Test, named after two of its head developers - Daro Tarsi and Zori Kapshan, was initially created as an off-set against the numerous failed HRDs created for the sake of serving clandestine purposes of COMPNOR - droid parts are expendable, sentients are not. These failed prototypes essentially became rogue HRDs and are still hunted down by COMPNOR operatives or contractors.

However, currently, the Tarsi-Kapshan test is also utilized as a benchmark to surpass for Project ERIS. The project, funded by the Coalition for Improvements, seeks to create the most identical to humanoids HRDs to serve in the ranks of COMPNOR predominantly for black operations.

The test itself measures bodily functions such as respiration, heart rate, blushing, and eye movement in response to emotionally provocative questions. It took around thirteen questions to identify a standard, high-end HRD and about twenty-six to identify an ERIS HRD. The TK test is able to determine if a suspect is truly humanoid by measuring the degree of their empathic response through carefully worded questions and statements.
