Developed for use in atmospheric combat and policing of occupied worlds, the Talon-class was designed to resemble a striking bird of prey to intimidate locals and the infantry components of enemy forces. It featured a beak-like forward fuselage and cockpit and two aerial stabilizers that both jut out to the side like a pair of wings. Because of the gunship's specialized purpose, it could not be used in space.
Its weaponry consisted of a single mounted dual laser cannon right beneath the cockpit, which could swivel and pivot to attack targets in a 360° range around the gunship. On both of its wings were a pair of missile launchers, specialized to launch a multitude of rockets at one time. Each rocket was guided to attack targets designated by the gunship's operator, and would doggedly pursue its target until the missile or the target was destroyed.
The cockpit was state-of-the-art, replacing the two-handled yoke of other vessels with two independent control columns with levered handgrips. These columns offered a higher range of motion and control over the gunship, with strong haptic feedback allowing the pilot to maintain a greater sense of their surroundings.
While also equipped with deflector shields, it was mostly fixed around the gunship's fore and aft sections, and the lateral shielding tended to be much weaker.
