PRODUCTION INFORMATION
SPECIAL FEATURES
  • Variable Power: TacWeb's have a very basic magnification ability common to most other macroscopes, allowing users to zoom in at up to a maximum of x8. While not as a great of magnification as most high end hunting or sniping scopes, it does noticeably improve the ability to see at farther ranges than the naked organic eye.
  • Variable Reticle: TacWebs come by default with a physical but nearly transparent holdover-style post aiming recticle within the scope for using the scope in unpowered mode. However, holo-graphic recticle overlays can be projected over this holdover based on the user's preference.
  • Internal Rangefinder: TacWebs have a rangefinder built into the scope. Placing the aiming recticle over the object allows the user to find out its range, size, speed, and most common species.
  • Light Magnification: TacWebs have passive light amplifiers incorporated into the scope, which along with basic computing power allows the user to see things in low-light situations, such as during the night or in darkened environments.
  • Tactical Web Source: The major innovation of the TacWeb over other macroscopes is its ability to send and receive other information from other sources through a short-range data transmitter. Most commonly, this allows the scope to link to personal armor systems, such as the HUD of a helmet to allowing aiming without the user having to physically bring his eye to the scope. But it also be used in the reverse, such as the HUD providing advance notice of an object that might be entering the scope's view. Additionally, the TacWeb can transmit its data to other nearby networked TacWeb Scopes and similar devices, allowing it to act as a sensor node in a wider array of information gathering devices. While one TacWeb scope may not provide a huge amount of additional information, large numbers of devices can provide very detailed, up to date view of the environment.
STRENGTHS
  • Sensor Node: TacWeb is unusual for a scope in that it is designed to both transmit and receive data, allowing it to act as a part of a broader information gathering network
  • Jack of All Trades...: While designed for optimal use at ranges several hundreds of meters away from a target, TacWeb can work reasonably well at shorter or longer ranges with some performance loss.
WEAKNESSES
  • Electricity Reliant: Unlike many scopes, the TacWeb is highly reliant on electricity for any of its functions to work. Without a properly functioning powercell to power it or if it is somehow caught in an EMP or ion blast, it is nearly useless.
  • ...Master of None: The TacWeb doesn't excel at any one range or role. It doesn't have the magnification abilities to work truly well as a designated sniper scope, nor does it have the environmental filtering abilities such as seeing through smoke or luma grenades like a dedicated short-range tactical scope.
DESCRIPTION
Lucerne Personal Defense has had a dedicated short-range tactical scope series in the TruSight-series Multi-Optic Sights and a dedicated long-range scope series in the Zolta-series Targeting Scopes. While both of these scopes remain very competitive in their designed roles, both were highly specialized for the extremes of shooting ranges, leaving the company without a general purpose scope to serve the middle ground between the two. To that end, Lucerne Personal Defense looked at several macroscopes that dominated this mid-range market, such as J19 Electroscope, and began designing a macroscope that would be at least as competitive. As this technology was not particularly sophisticated and well developed, this process did not take long. However, cognizant that their new product would have to do something different to break into this well-established market, the company opted to focus on many of their planetary defense customers by making it an individual part of a sensor network, both allowing it to send and receive information. In this respect, the TacWeb is groundbreaking among macroscopes, and few scopes can claim the ability to shift the tide of the battle or informationscape in the way that the TacWeb can. While a useful piece of equipment for large groups, the TacWeb's abilities become much less useful to individual operators or small groups. Consequently, it has sold well to larger concerns such as planetary defense forces and corporate security firms, but has largely flopped on the common consumer market.
