The T-50 Planetary Defense Turret was first conceived during the waning days of the original Galactic Empire. A step in between the XX-10 Turbolaser Tower and the w-165 Planetary Turbolaser, the T-50 Planetary Defense Turret proved unpopular with most Imperial units, as it lacked the power and range of the w-165 and the rotation speed and rate of fire of the XX-10. As such, its overall deployment was limited, though Mahporeem received a number of them to defend its prison camps and decommissioning yards.
These turrets would later prove instrumental in allowing Mahporeem to defend itself during the events of OPERATION: CINDER, as the Imperial Remnant lacked the forces necessary to fully repel an Imperial attack. Manned by both Stormtroopers and former prisoners, the T-50 Planetary Defense Turrets work tirelessly to prevent the enemy Imperial fleet from causing to much damage to the planet.
Even today, the T-50 Planetary Defense Turret continues to serve in the defense of Mahporeem, ready to eliminate any enemy ships that attempt to attack the Imperial Remnant. That being said, total deployment of the T-50 Planetary Defense Turret remains relatively scarce, with the turrets only being present in the most critically important locations on Mahporeem.
