- Shifter: The Syvak Masquer is a more evolved and developed version of it's cousins the Ooglith Masquer and the standard Yuuzhan Vong Cloaker. The Syvak Masquer is unique in it's ability to change shape and take on the form of anything that it sees and 'records'. Unlike an Ooglith, the Syvak is not restrained to simply one form, and is capable of changing it's shape multiple times whenever the wearer wishes. Of course there are limits to this in that the Syvak cannot change ones mass, weight, or bone structure.
- Painful: Like it's cousins, the Syvak Masquer is incredibly painful to take on and put on. Though it serves a symbiotic purpose, actually putting on the Syvak is extremely agonizing, and some lesser beings can be driven entirely mad simply from this process alone.
- Fusion: The Syvak is a living being that feeds off of the body that it is applied to. The trouble with this is that it is entirely possible for the Syvak Masquer to be applied too long, allowing the creature to 'dig' it's way into the body that is wearing it. When this happens taking the Syvak off becomes more and more painful, until eventually it requires surgical removal. At a certain point the Syvak simply becomes impossible to remove and becomes almost a replacement for the beings skin.
Syvak Masquers are a creation of Yuuzhan Vong Bio-technology.
They are in essence a more developed and mature version of the famed Ooglith Masquer, giving them more versatility and granting them a greater range of use. The Syvak itself appears most of the time like an odd little blob that is generally kept inside of a plasteel container.
When it is first put on, the Syvak Masquer is almost 'poured' onto the skin. The wearer allows the creature to slowly attach itself to their skin, an excruciatingly painful process which can take up to fifteen minutes. Once the Masquer is in place, the creature initially mimics the skin and flesh that it has settled upon.
At will this can change. The Masquer 'sees' living beings around it and is capable of mimicking and even generating new humanoid features.
This is what makes the Syvak so unique. Unlike Ooglith or Gablith Masquers, the Syvak changes and edits it's form at the will of wearer. This gives the Syvak both more versatility and also a greater span of life, making it far more useful to the wearer.
The Heralds utilize the Syvak Masquers in a number of different means, including the impersonation of different public figures. Of course the greatest range of their use is simply to generate new faces for the Herald's, allowing them to travel from world to world within their disguises and never be recognized.
Unfortunately, their constant use has lead to some rather ill-effects for some of the Herald's, though this has been mostly ignored by Boethiah.
