The Living Pyre
[[Those babysitting our key terminals, sit tight, eyes up. Engineers or worse'll be showin up soon enough to get their grimy mitts on 'em. Can't let that fly, got it? Anyone outside ISB Headquarters, you're about t' get a show.]]
"Then we too will give them a show that Coruscant will never forget."
He watched as his crew finished setting up equipment, the maintenance man stood by him as the Nagai soldier kept a firm hold on his shoulder.
Varin looked at the Nagai.
“Are the breach weapons ready?”
The Nagai turned to Varin.
“Yes Sir. The crew is ready to breach, offensive capabilities are ready for formation.”
Varin turned to face his crew. That was when he saw it.
The skies above Coruscant collapsed into darkness. Clouds folded in on themselves, spiraling into a vast, roiling wound in the atmosphere as thunder tore through the city like a scream. Lightning churned within the storm's core — not white, but bruised red and void-black — illuminating shapes that should not have existed.
The storm that had brewed as if the sky itself were ready to pass cataclysmic judgement on the city planet. Crimson and obsidian lightning ripped through the skies in thunderous booms and flashes like mortar fire. This was no ordinary storm. Lightning surged from the sky impacting the top of the ship, for a split second the power flickered.
Varin’s gaze swept the ceiling of the ship as he watched lights flicker.
“Lights are not important to us. The ship will continue to float and maintain its defenses, that will be their priority.”
He looked at the maintenance man, his fingers wrapping around his throat as he hoisted him up with one hand.
“How do we shut the lights off?”
The Nagai overheard and began ordering those out of ear shot to prep for battle in the dark as they all tapped their helmets ready to switch to low light visibility.
Varin’s comms flared to life with Lysander’s voice as he made his demands for time.
<Brother. We'll need a little more time. I'll call it once we've taken what we need.. just wait for my signal.>
His response rang into Varin's comms.
<Consider it done, brother. I expect this ship to be under my control in ten minutes.>
He looked at the Nagai who stood before him.
“If he leads you astray, break his other limbs. Take him and a few others with you to where he needs to be. The rest of us will start heading to the bridge.”
The Nagai gave Varin a nod as he and a small squad of others followed him with the maintenance member.
“Ladies and gentlemen. The enemy has waited long enough for us.”
He walked towards his crew.
“Take a walk. If they seem like they have information on the ship and how it runs then bring them to the deck. Odds are though, they are already there.”
He looked towards the opening as the blackened clouds seemed to form a rotation. Varin's gaze sharpened as he observed the phenomenon.
“It's likely they will be trying to keep the ship stable.”
A crack of lightning impacted the surface of the ship causing the vessel to rock and shake. Varin's boots dug into the flooring keeping his stability.
He turned and headed further into the ship, his crew following as the lights died once more. Darkness enveloping them all. His visor outlined silhouettes of each man, woman and trooper as they delved deeper. Blaster fire shot back and forth as his men began tearing into the opposing force.
Varin ventured deeper than the crew, getting closer to his destined location as the storm rocked the ship once more, he could feel its direction pull towards the swirling hungry clouds.
His eye itched again, a bothersome burn deep inside the socket, a grunt left his throat as he instinctively raised his hand over the left side of his visor. He could hear multiple foot falls sprinting towards him in the dark, he drew his sword. Ready for it to once again drink blood and chew meat. Flashlights attached to barrels could be seen reflecting off the walls as they drew closer to him. The fools expected his Nagai platoon, not him.
He stepped into the darkness, the smoke billowed from his back enveloping him into an impenetrable cloud. The squad of troopers stopped in their tracks as they watched the silent and eerily still cloud stand before them, giving no hint as to what could be inside.
The eye pulsed again. A slight burn now. A quiet growl of pain left him as the sensation grew, turning the growl into a yell. The troopers pointed their blasters at him ready to fire as Varin looked at him, the false eye flaring with a light that pierced through his visor.
A roar ripped through his chest as the left side of his visor melted, a steam of super heated force energy ripping through his helm began to carve through the troopers, their screams of agony falling onto the walls and their wails falling silent. The smoke around his body jettisoned out of his back traveling through the hall as Varin dashed through with his blade, following with it.
The blade carved through armor and meat alike as he cut down the remaining troopers that just rounded the corner.
