- Structure Name: Syn-Nova K
- Classification: Kolto Plant.
- Location: Oroxid Trench, Torrential.
- Affiliation: Synal Pharmaceutical.
- Accessibility: Torrential is a largely uninhabited planet and therefore low on traffic and as the plant is under water, it is only reached by submarine vehicles. Yet, as a factory, Syn-Nova K is not hidden. Corporate interests and potential investors may receive a tour of the plant, but only authorised personnel have free reign of the facility. The enforcement of these restrictions is left to corporate security.
- Description: Far beneath the violent waves of Torrential’s tropical seas lay a domed structure, nestled in a rocky trench. Six tentacular appendages stretch out from the central dome and end in little domes of their own, while automated turrets watch from the trench walls.
- Docks: Only accessible by submarine vehicles, the facility has several docks designated for goods to ship in or out, and one for visitors. The visitor section is marked in aurebesh and leads straight to the reception and office sections of the central orb.
- Reception: The reception area is a sterile, but not unwelcoming space where visitors may state their purpose at the plant. The reception features a visible security presence as well as customer service droids.
- Office: Located above the reception and stacking up to the peak of the central dome are several offices for administration and security. These offices are plain in appearance, but not uncomfortable or unwelcoming. The office section also features sleeping pods for longer shifts.
- Laboratory: The laboratories lie on the upper west side of the dome and occupy a significant portion of the central dome. Here, the kolto is meticulously tested for faults and tampering, ensuring that the final product is unadulterated and effective. The laboratories also work on ways to improve the kolto, either by tampering with its chemical composition or by engineering new ways of distributing it.
- Refinery: The refinery makes up the majority of the centre dome. This is where seawater is purified and turned into healing kolto by use of highly classified processes. Select parts of the refinery are visible from the offices and laboratories, but access is highly restricted.
- Gun-Pits: Outside of the facility itself, there are several gun-pits carved into the rocky walls. These are armed with sonic cannons meant to protect the facility from natural dangers such as comets and large beasts, as well as unwelcome intruders and marauders.
- Generator: Burrowed into the rock walls and accessed by a subterranean tunnel is a generator that supplies the plant with power.
Security Rating: High.
- Location: The location of Syn-Nova K helps keep it secure. With little nearby traffic or life, visits must be scheduled in advance and are therefore easier to trace. Additionally, being under water reduces the damage done by aerial bombardment and poses a challenge to most land-lubbing would-be marauders.
- Gun-Pits: The gun pits are one of two primary defence mechanisms. These are armed with sonic cannons meant to protect the plant from Torrential’s many natural threats as well as unwanted visitors. Sonic weapons were chosen due to their efficacy under water.
- Shield: A deflector shield, powered by the local generator, protects the structure from threats such as asteroids and rockslides, but also potential bombardment.
- Surveillance: In fear of tampering, the Kolto plant features extensive internal and external surveillance. External surveillance features seismic, auditory and visual scanners that look for threats. Internally, cameras and surveillance drones cover much of the plant to track accidents or potential intrusion. The data from this surveillance is protected in a black box contained in the structure’s sub basement.
- Guards: While in no way a military force, the local security personnel know the stakes. Dereliction of their duty could mean dangerous products are shipped out. These guards are armed and live on Torrential for two week shifts before returning home.
- Locks and alarms: Like most corporate structures, the plant features alarms and locking mechanisms. Not only do these restrict access to specific zones, it also logs who opened what doors and when in the structure’s black box. Should these doors be broken open, then the structure will go into lockdown and send out a security alert.
HISTORICAL INFORMATION
After their debut on Jaminere, Synal Pharmaceutical saw it prudent to expand their medical portfolio and diversify their product origins to secure market profits in an unstable galaxy. War promises profit, but one can never be certain that the supply will hold. Therefore, the board decided that they should invest in alternatives to bacta. Bacta allergy had already called their attention to kolta, but resource scarcity prevented early investment.
Synal Pharmaceuticals trace their origin to owners with influence in the Sith, who were more than happy to invest and share their secrets in return for a deal on medical supplies. Synal’s ability to grow Kolto has its origin in the Sith-Imperial kolto plants. Specifically, the necessary genetic material was retrieved from Dubrillon after assaults by the Rebel Alliance were fended off by investors in Synal’s parent company and later traded to Synal as part of their transaction.
Finally, selecting a planet for such a critical operation was a momentous task. Firstly, the host planet required tropical oceans of sufficient depth to supply the optimal conditions needed to replicate Dubrillion and Manaan. Secondly, there had to be sufficient infrastructure to ship the goods to buyers in and out of host space. Torrential was offered as a host planet due to its isolated position and the Sith’s desire to industrialise the sector.. This was a particularly difficult part of the process, but partnering with an authoritarian regime cut costs and saved the project in the end.
Now, the Syn-Nova K kolto plant on Torrential is a symbol of new industry in an untouched sector. It ships kolto from the Outer Rim to anyone willing to buy premium Synal Pharmaceutical goods.
