Survival Training Guide To Veradune

Vulpesen groaned as a small tongue licked his face. Ace's watch was done. It was time to get back to work. Rousing himself, Vulpesen rose up and stretched a bit, his tail flicking behind him. It was too early to be training someone and getting reports into his head as to how his student was doing. Yet, here he was. Taking a moment to wake up, Vulpesen reached out through the Ashlan bond, one again speaking to [member="Decker Willo"]. "Perhaps now would be a good time to meditate and search for your goal. Remember, making it there is your secondary objective."

Decker heard the voice at the back of his head, once more. It caught him by surprise, as it usually did. Still Decker Willo was getting used to it, hearing another's voice in the space of his own thoughts. And still he had yet on how to speak back towards him. And he had those thoughts running through his mind, on how he was meant to. He went along through the brush, he needed to survive...just as he had learnt to do the night before, the trainee reached out. Sitting on the ground, eyes closed he went about sensing whatever could be close. A creature to hunt. He soon found something nearby. And he slowly crept towards it.

A horned creature, pale in the forest. Recalling back to the guide, this must have been an arlusk. Something that [member="Vulpesen"] had said could be used for food. Looking upon the creature, he weighed his options on how to hunt it. And in hand was certainly an easy way.

The arlusk continued to graze peacefully, its massive form imposing within the forest. Though, as Decker reached out and found it in the force, it perked up for a moment, its eyes staring blankly into the forest around it. Unlike the Zipher, there was no real intelligence in its gaze. It grazed, it walked, it grazed some more. If it was in danger, ir ran away or through said danger. It was a simple beast. But in a way, it was still dangerous, albeit big and tasty as well. Through Decker's mind, Vulpesen's voice would speak again. "If you wish to save ammunition, then it is possible to turn your dagger into a dart. Lift it up, and focus the force on it. Think of it as a dam, holding back the flow of power. And when you are ready, open the flood gate, let it all go at once with one powerful push." Thankfully with his words coming through the Ashlan bond, it wasn't only words. It was thoughts and feelings. Concepts which managed to describe themselves in a way that would be lost with simple language.

Decker was about to draw his blaster on the creature when, once more the voice in his mind came though. He sighed, it almost made him jump. He had no warning. After, he followed the advice and drew out the dagger given. And he aimed with his hand, and then threw it from holding the blade end. Perhaps this was not exactly the way that [member="Vulpesen"] had meant...but still he managed to hit the beast. It stabbed into it's neck, bringing it down in one hit. "Wow...that was a surprising result."

He rushed out of the brush quickly, running over to his kill. It was still breathing, and with a quick slash Decker finished it. Now...he just needed to start a fire. Leaving the kill on the ground for now, he started getting some wood. Then he realized, he had no idea how to even start a fire. Except for using the blaster.

Vulpesen felt the life jolt and panic, then ebb, then all at once, it ended. It indeed wasn't what he had in mind. And given the heartiness of the beast, he was surprised it worked as well as it did. But perhaps the force was looking out for this poor lad. Through the Ashlan bond, Vulpesen managed to stay informed of the situation. There were probably numerous ways in which he could help Decker. But he was here to teach the force. Fires were his problem.

Decker sighed...then decided there was only one way. So he drew the blaster and fired on the wood. So much for saving ammunition and not only that but all it did was blow the wood apart. He just stood there, in silence. Then sat down, just very unsure of what to do now. Humming to himself, he wondered for a moment, and tried thinking back to @Vulpesen. Maybe he could give this a try after all. And what did he try thinking back? "Can you see what I am doing?" He was overly curious on that fact.

"I know what you're doing. Might I suggest using your dagger and pistol as a flint and steel. Find some fibrous material or lint, and perhaps you'll managed to create a spark big enough to light it." With Decker now aware of how to start using his bond with the wolf, Vulpesen cut off contact with the man. He had his ways of observing him, but for now, he left the man to his own devices.

Decker held up the dagger and the pistol...then shrugged. He got some of the left over wood, then using the blade edge scraped it along the side of the blaster. Scraping till it sparked over the wood, but it was not enough. He tried some more, trying not to damage the blaster itself while scraping off the grip. Till finally, the sparks flew. He thought it a good idea to focus the force, focusing on keeping it alive, willing it to remain rather than be blown out by the air.

Once it was big enough, Decker made up a spit than cut off some of the meat. "Well, thanks for that" he thought back to @Vulpesen. What great help he had been so far.

As the fire curled up from the wood, Decker would his moment of respite and his meal. The arlusk would cook much like a nerf, leaving a savory smell in the air. As for the thanks, Vulpesen would offer no response, having retreated from Decker's senses once again to allow him to carry on with his task. He had given him a general direction. WHether he would remember or follow it was up to him. And if he got lost, he had already been taught the basics of sensing his surroundings.

Decker got no response, and he sighed for a moment. He guessed that no such small talk would happen during this training and that was somewhat saddening for him, he felt...alone. He cut off a piece of the cooking meat, putting it to his Ashlan's mouth. It was quick to take it, eating it down. He pet it's head softly, at least Decker had some sort of company. Even if it was a small wolf creature. It gave a trill sound after he scratched under it's chin. It was a kind creature.

He began eating until he had his fill. The rest, using some of the rope he attached to his belt. It could either be used as bait, or food for later. Then, on his way he went.
