Survival of the Fittest

They froze. She was growing bold and frustrated, commanding them all at the same time. No small feat. They should've just obeyed. In the next instance, from the perspective, Death appeared in front of them. Never a good thing. Needless to say, the terror was quite easy to spot on their faces.

They were too afraid to speak. They both were fairly certain they'd die within a few moments. Alas, death did not come from them, even with Death staring down on them. "W-we can stay with our families?" one managed to say with a shiver. They had assumed that serving her meant leaving everything else behind. If that was not the case... But instead, simply accepting Death, the goddess, as their leader... Well. Now that sounded much more fantastic. Why had they ever run in the first place. Truly, the gods favoured them. More than favour, one had descended to the realm of the mortal, and would lead them to war. This could only spell greatness for their clan and village. What greater honour could there be? The gods had chosen them.

They looked upon her, still frozen, as she walked past them. She had not ended them. She was not angry with them. She only wanted to make them see. The goddess said she would return, return to their village in three days. That meant they had three days to persuade their chief. Let him know who was coming, and convince him to support her. This could be the age of prophecy, when the world got consumed by fire and death. Before the Great War, they had been shattered, they had been many. After the war there would be only one. Unification.

"Fools" Barbo hissed at them, for having first defied them. One could almost call them deserters. The large hunter walked with quick steps towards the goddess. His mind seemed to be the one touched the deepest. He was a spiritual man, even superstitious. He always observed the rituals on the proper days with the proper preparations. "Take me with you. I will serve you" he sounded practically smitten. The next moment he feared he had insulted her, by suggesting that a goddess would have need of a mortal such as he, for protection or otherwise. "My life for the gods." Whether she wanted him to stay or not, he offered.

The rest would leave this place as commanded, to return to their village. If Death wanted him there, Barbo would stay. If not, he would leave with them. Back in the village, they would spread then news of what had transpired and tell the Elders to prepare for Her arrival three days later.
