Sunshine and Seaweed

Lor winked at Rawnie and stretched his hand out to grab hers again.
"Don't think you keep me active enough, huh?"
Honestly, the physical condition he'd been in when they'd started sleeping together had been a low point for him. There was no way he'd ever not look scrawny, but now there was some muscle showing through instead of him simply being bony. He'd gone a bit soft while he was on Chroma Zed.

As for Rawnie, she didn't know if she had the ability to really gain weight. She'd been a tiny thing her whole life. Even from birth, she'd been a bit of a runt. Over many years, she'd built muscle, but even more than that she'd built respect, a reputation. That had been important. Her people knew better than to underestimate people. Her Clan especially. Most of them learned it when her mother came to live there when she married Calico. Nobody expected much from her either. This tiny, skinny little Echani woman. Her mother liked to tell the story often, about how she beat every man and woman in the village in hand to hand combat.

"Mmmm... Well, we could always work harder, don't you think?"

Lor gave Rawnie's hand a squeeze as he smiled at her again.
"Well, I'm not sure our poor bed can take a much more intense workout than we already do."
And, of course, there was the fact that his fiancee had to keep her strength up. Although he couldn't imagine her changing her eating habits to eat much more than she had before, Lor had to watch and make sure she ate at least a little more. After all, she was technically eating for both herself and little Galaar. Their child. His mind began to wander in that direction.
"I wonder what Galaar's gonna look like. As far as I can tell from searching about it, half-Chiss kids usually keep the blue skin."

Rawnie smirked at his comment about the bed. Well, he was right. They did put a lot of strain on the bed frame. Maybe it was time to look into getting a new bed? One that could take the... abuse. She'd been about to make a comment about it when he brought up Galaar.

"Really? I didn't know that. What about the eyes?" she asked, "Do you think Galaar will have your eyes, or mine?"

She could only guess. She'd never met a chiss hybrid. Who knew how their genes would interact. Their child could turn out looking like anything, really.

Lor answered the question with another shrug. While annoying, it was also a bit of a reminder to him that they didn't even know whether Galaar was going to be a boy or a girl. It didn't really matter too much, but the knowledge would've been nice to have. If there was anything he could hope their child to inherit from him, it was definitely the stereotypical Chiss calm.
"Dunno. I'm kind of hoping for yours, because not having visible pupils myself annoys me."
He mentally added that Rawnie was probably one of the few people in the galaxy who could tell when a Chiss was rolling their eyes. Not that she needed to know that tidbit of information. It made him love her a little more.

Only reason she could tell when he was rolling his eyes was the way his eyebrows shot up when he did it. But if he wanted to think she was just that good, well, she was more than happy to let him think that.

"You know, I'm actually hoping it has a nice voice. That would be nice."

She'd never explain why, but singing was kind of a family thing. Her mother had a wonderful singing voice. She used to sing in bars, actually for a while. Once she sang backup for a really famous band. That was way back before they were famous though. Still. Her brother was a great singer too. And Rawnie, well, she wasn't bad. She could carry a tune. It was something from her mothers side. Her father on the other hand wasn't much of a music man.

That brought Lor another chuckle. The most singing he or Rawnie usually heard from each other was probably the loud shower-singing they both indulged in, and maybe the similar situation that came from the radio being on while he was in his workshop. As always, false modesty wasn't something he was good at, and neither was ignoring his fiancee's skills.
"Ehhh, I think that's more of a practice thing, visahot. You sing whenever you seem to think I'm not listening."
He gave her hand another squeeze to make sure she knew it was a joke.

Singing was not something she was ashamed of. Singing was something they did a whole lot back home. Her and mom especially. Mostly when they cooked together. Mom wasn't much of a cook, but could she carry a melody! Mostly Rawnie did the cooking back home when Corrin was busy... spacing out and being weird and space wizardy. No. She was not ashamed of her singing, or even shy about it. But it did strike her as a little weird to just burst out into song in front of other people. Who even did that? So she mostly saved it for the shower, or occasionally while she was cooking to keep herself entertained.

"True, but for some people it doesn't matter how much you practice. An ugly voice may well always be an ugly voice."

Lor smiled at Rawnie, leaning in a bit closer over the table. She was right, really. The configuration of a person's vocal chords was pretty much a genetic thing. Not that it seemed there was anything to worry about.
"Well, then, I think little Galaar's got better luck than most there."
He looked into his fiancee's face and his smile turned a bit crooked.
"A couple of years ago, I would've laughed if somebody told me I was going to have this conversation."

"If anyone told me that I'd be marrying a chiss I might have looked at them a bit funny."

The waitress came back just then with what they ordered. Her smoothie was set down in front of her first, then one by one, she set her fiances entire order down in front of him. Amazing that she could carry all that, actually.

"Anything else?" she asked and Rawnie shook her head.

Lor turned his smile on the waitress for a moment as she walked away, having a vague thought that a year ago, he probably would've gotten up to go sit at the bar and talk to her until one of them got bored or they ended up in a bed somewhere. He looked back at Rawnie, and his smile widened again. Being around her really had changed him a lot.
"Well, to be fair, running into the guy who built your mother a new hand is weird, too. I'm sure there's some idiot out there who'd attribute it to their little space-magic parasites."

The blonde took a deep sip of her smoothie. Oh, yes. This was perfect. Naboo really did have the best seaweed.

"That's true. Mom would say it was all the work of Lady Luck," she laughed a little at that, "Honestly, sometimes I find myself thanking the good Lady myself. Isn't that weird?"

Rawnie only had one religion, and that was the same faith that all of Mandalore shared. But sometimes she found herself praying to that made up Goddess that her mother seemed to worship.

Lor was pretty thoroughly agnostic, but luck sounded like a solid enough belief. Surviving to adulthood with the lifestyle he'd had wasn't simply a fluke, right? It was luck, at least a good part of it, anyway. Definitely luck that he and Rawnie had survived all the stuff they'd gone through together.
"No... Not that weird at all."
He began attacking the cake in front of him. He was hungry, after all.

Luck. She could give all the credit to plain luck. They might not have met if she hadn't made a single stupid tiny miscalculation. That was unlucky, or she had thought so at first. Now she could see that it was all the work of the good Lady, bringing her only the best she could. Rawnie smiled as he ate, sipping silently at her seaweed.
How different her life would have been if a single mistake had not been made.

Being reflective with cake in front of you is hard. Lor sat there scooping pieces off his dessert with a facial expression usually reserved for house pets and animated characters who're inordinately happy with whatever's happening around them. Why? The cake was frakking good, and Rawnie was smiling at him. Finally, the curious part of his brain stopped him mid-bite, with his fork still in between his teeth, and him talking out of the corner of his mouth.
"You're looking at me funny. What did I do?"

Oh! She'd been staring! Rawnie blinked, blushing a little. She shook her head, tearing her eyes away.

"You're just... really cute, you know that?"

Cute. That was probably the first time she'd ever used that word in her life. He should feel honored.

[member="Doctor Azure"]

Cute, huh? Lor could deal with his future wife thinking he was cute. He reached out and put a hand on her cheek, pulling the fork out of his teeth and grinning at her with all the chocolate in his mouth.
"Heh. Never been described as 'cute' before. I think I like it."

He actually smiled at her with a mouth full of chocolate. She burst out laughing and couldn't really control herself for a good few minutes. When she finally got it all under control, she wiped a tear from her eye and picked up his fork. Without asking for permission, she stuck it into his cake and took a bite herself.

[member="Doctor Azure"]

Lor laughed as Rawnie took a bite of his cake, giving her hand another squeeze. She really was funny sometimes. Like right now, with the teasing and the cake. It was a nice break from all the weird emotions and everything.
"You're silly sometimes."

It was not like Rawnie to play like this. She liked to be so serious, so stiff. Everything was all about responsibility and doing the right thing for everybody else but her. Sometimes it was nice to just relax and be a little playful.

"Yes, but I'm your silly Rawnie."
