DESCRIPTION

"To stand before the majesty of the Sun; To be purified by its embrace, and fear not the coming darkness. That is what it means to be Lightsworn."
- Lucius Varad, First of the Lightsworn.
The history of weapons imbued with the Force stretches back to their humble origins on the ancient world of Tython, where the signature weapon of the Je’daii for centuries before they were ultimately replaced by the Protosabres; a weapon that was based on the Rakatan Forcesabres. Their construction was relatively simple, as they were metallic blades that could quickly be produced by a skilled weaponsmith, or an automated foundry. Granted, mass-production would often result in inferior blades that couldn’t withstand the molecular stresses of being reforged with the energy that bound all living things together. So, the mystic powers of the Force were often woven into the material during the forging, which significantly slowed the process. The Weaponsmith tempered the strength of the metal and prepared the weapon for the structural stresses of what was to come.

What made these weapons genuinely unique, was their inclusion of kyber crystals - which would often act as the wellspring from whence the energies of the Force would be channelled into the blade itself. While anyone could simply extract a crystal and forcibly marry it to their intended weapon, it was the meditative bond that was forged that gave these weapons their power. The Smith, or the Je’daii, would immerse themselves within the expansive torrent of the Force and remain within its passionate embrace until the Smith, the Armament, and the Crystal harmonized as one. The process would then create a weaponized focus for the Je’daii’s energy, who would then send a portion of their essence into the steel, which would then glow with a nimbus of ethereal energy - signifying that the armament was permanently infused with the Force.

It’s unknown when the process of enhancing and imbuing items with the Force found itself in Thyrsian hands, but since the darkening of their Solar Forges after their system was annexed by the Moon-worshipping Echani - Sunforged weapons and the Steel that birthed them were considered all but extinct. However, when the banished Sun Guard defied their fated death amongst the stars, the secrets of Solar Forging survived; finding new life within the Golden Company’s Armourer’s Guild. The one of the key differences between the Thyrsian arms and those forged on ancient Tython was the inclusion of additional kyber crystals - drawn from the heart of active volcanoes - into the weapon itself. A process that not only altered the metallic alloy’s appearance, giving a slew of vibrant and emblazoned colours to the dull and lifeless silvered-grey, but fundamentally changed the imbued capabilities of the armament as well.

Not only would the weapon be capable of cutting through most materials with relative ease, but the arms forged of Sunforged Steel would also prove extremely potent against manifested Force Spirits; regardless of their inherent affinity on the alignment spectrum. Such power, to slay creatures of the Netherworld, was granted by the inclusion of a Wild Force shard, often married to the bottom of the weapon’s pommel, the weapon’s hilt or haft, or within the heart of the blade’s cross-guard. Through this connection between the Lava crystals and their Wild Force kindred, the weapon’s metallic flesh would be supernaturally heated - as if the armament itself was forged from ignited plasma. That inferno-like heat contained within the heart of the weapon would never fade, posing a danger to both the wielder and their chosen victim as well. It was a factor that would be amplified by both the intense negative emotions of the wielder and their surrounding environment; which made it possible for the weapon itself to weep with super-heated magma - or liquid Sunfire.

Thus, precautions would need to be taken to ensure the bearer of the Sunforged Steel needed a specialized scabbard or holding harness - inscribed with Force-imbued runes, or sigils, that devoured the residual conflagration given off by the weapon; keeping the wearer safe from their own Sunforged arms.
