Despite the lingering thoughts and opinions of the former Mand'alor, Yuri didn't forget about the request he made to Carduul. The Hound was many things, but insincere was not one of them. The Mand'alor had offered his assistance with retrieving some goods and Yuri was going to make good of it. What he didn't account for was a rescue operation throwing a spanner in their works.

But all was back to normal now. The fleet had returned, Vara was safe... and the mutt could stop with his dooming thoughts.

Yuri had sent an invitation to Carduul to meet him at the Ironworks once he was able and willing, partially to plan but also to get some input on a few new projects of the Hound's own design. He might not have the genius of his mother before him, but engineering came easier to the mutt than he expected. Every trial and error, every mistake or flop taught him something new. Which left him with nothing better to do than wait for Carduul's eventual arrival.

He kept himself busy with overseeing the main factory floor. A month ago they could only do a handful of small arms at a time. Now production was almost back to normal, with weapons, armour and even vehicles emerging from the forges to go to their respective assembly points. The heat of the Ironworks kept the frigid cold at bay within the mountain, employees and droids were hard at work to finish up before the bell tolled for lunch.

The Hound couldn't help but smile at the operation. "Hope you're happy." He spoke to himself, sparing a glance up at nothing in particular.

It had been some time since he last spoke with Yuri Maji. Carduul’s own bold words and assertion were left unanswered- not that the Shistavanen was in a state to do so. Whatever conclusion that was to be made must’ve been had, for he was certainly not expecting an invitation to the Ironworks upon his return to Kestri.

There had been far too much going on to really allow himself a moment to worry about the individuals within the Covenant, and their thoughts about him- those fleeting conversations of which he often took a distinct pleasure in, to view another’s perspectives and thoughts. His business was only doubled after Rook’s sudden offerance of a council seat. Yet, with their foremost concern out of the way, and the invasion of Humbarine now behind him…the invitation was too enticing to dismiss with the excuse of duty. He had earned this, hadn’t he? A moment to spend amongst one of many people he wished to fight for. Even if it, ultimately, was a matter of strategic import.

He did not regret that decision one bit. Navigating the factory floors of the Ironworks was a tad confusing at first- and he made it a point not to openly show his person, or ask for direction from one of the many workers. Rather, he wished to see it all for himself- without any strange looks, or perhaps revered treatment. With an inquisitive, keen eye, it wasn’t difficult to spy the figure whom invited him watching it all from above. He had routed upwards quite swiftly.

“I suppose you could say I am. ‘Tis always a joy to hear from an acquaintance again.” Came the sudden, hummed reply to the words not meant for him- a touch knowingly, one could add, as Carduul approached the familiar figure.

Strange; it was always exceedingly easy to tell when the former Mand’alor was coming on account of the weapon always at their side. Perhaps it was difficult to hear it with all the hustle and bustle from the works below…or, for some odd reason, he had been purposefully withholding the noise.

“Though, I must comment that you do seem quite elated today, Yuri Maji.” Especially compared to last time he saw him.

Carduul's sudden appearance caught Yuri completely by surprise, enough to have his hand hover over the grip of Peace. But it faded as quickly as it came and a chuckle quickly followed. With one spare glance at the factory, Yuri turned to lean against the guardrail and ignite a cigarette. "What's not to be happy about? My girl's home in one piece, my factory got its first win over the Enemy with the latest battle... hell, my first personal project is showing results. Only thing that could dampen my mood is that ugly mug o' yours." He quipped with a wink.

Even he had to admit that Carduul was easy company, despite his reservations of the man.

With a smoky breath and a wave of his hand, Yuri led Carduul down the catwalk towards a warehouse deeper within the factory as raw materials and wares moved back and forth. Still not where it used to be a decade ago, but the production scale had to be respected. "Still got a lot to expand on, but hey. The shipyards officially started up the other week. Just need to wrap up design on a new destroyer, then the full catalogue will be up and runnin' again. But I got something better to show ya. I need a professional's opinion on it." He explained, gesturing to the operations around them.

Yuri led the man past an inventory of walkers, Howlers and crates of ordnance towards a large vehicle covered by a tarp. A toothy grin adorned the Hound's features as he yanked the tarp off to reveal a beast underneath. Powered off, unpainted and collapsed on the ground, but its size still dwarfed the two warriors.

The Hound turned with arms outstretched, cigarette hanging from his expectant smile. "Huh? Whaddya think? Not powerin' her up right now, her AI's still wonky. Nearly blew us up the other day. But how's she look?" He asked Carduul as he walked around the cockpit, his mechanical hand tracing the cluster of gun barrels and launchers.

There was a small tilt of his head with the impromptu comment, and a squint beneath the helm. For a moment, he had to wonder if Yuri’s words were meant in earnest due to all he knew, but the wink had quickly stifled such thoughts. There had been a small shake of his head. “You’ve not even seen my face, so it could hardly count.” He curtly responded, a tone of light-heartedness to subtly tinge the words. It was something notable in contrast- how one could be so eager for battle and all the terrible omens that came with it, yet act seemingly non-chalant around the company of his kin. He wasn’t exactly casual- quite the opposite. Still…it was a far cry from an overbearing facade one would often have to wear in such a position.

The man had followed after the other, quietly marvelling at all of the industry surrounding them. He could remember all those disparate aspirations he once had…to establish more of such centers for innovation, spanning across the galaxy. All to ultimately serve in the war to bring about that fabled new era, ever-reached for yet impossible to maintain.

His ruminations were brought to a close as he was led to a more specific sight to behold, the helm tilting once more when the tarp was shifted aside to unveil the designs beneath. It reminded him quite much of several designs of the past. There had been a small ‘pfft’ of a difficult-to-discern laugh. “Intimidating.” He spoke in reply, an ever-so-faint curl of lips to grace features beneath the helm, as steps began to pace around. A hand briefly touching upon the guns and the darkened hull of the robotic beast. “It reminds me quite of the ones amidst crusaders of yore…it looks rugged. To tell the truth, I’ve not been a fan of the more ‘modern’ designs of Basilisks...”

It was then his gaze turned sidelong, to peer curiously towards Yuri. “I know little of your expertise, in truth. But, you make it seem like you’re still learning to grasp your craft.” Came an idle observation. It was not implied to be a bad thing, of course- at least, it didn’t sound that way by his tone. This is your ‘personal project,’ I take it..?” He knew Maji had his own Basilisk with its own fair share of…history, if its meltdown was anything to go by. He wondered, then, who this was for?

Hound from the Underground
The Hound couldn't help but feel some pride in the wake of Carduul's compliments. His observation, however, brought Yuri back to reality. He gave a nod, dragging his attention back to the man for a moment. "Sorta personal. I came up with the general design, Joe and the other engineers helped make it work." He explained, looking back at the Basilisk. "Ya better watch your mouth, boy, those Howlers saved as many lives as they took." He teased with a deep voice and rural accent.

Turning his attention back to the prototype, his features sharpened a little. "Ma was the engineer, I'm still learning. I can sell slime to a Hutt and snow to a Wampa, but this..." He gave the hull of the beast a slap. "This is me learnin' the art. I ain't a soldier, but if I can arm every Mando, rebel and kid in the galaxy, I think I'll be doin' my part to some degree." He explained with sincerity, golden eyes studying Carduul's visor. Arms folded and a fresh cigarette found its way between the mutt's lips as he leaned against a barrel. "I... I appreciate the observation. It's gonna take a long time before I'm worthy of this factory, but it is the family business. This pile of bolts is me wantin' to help, all of this is." He continued, gesturing to the factory around them.

It took years of saving, scheming and planning to get the factory up and running. It was all worth it. Everyone on Kestri could see the place in disarray and neglect.

Smoke poured from his nostrils with a sigh. "You remember why I called you?" He asked, wanting to make sure Carduul was still in the loop. "While y'all were tearin' the enemy to shreds, I got word the stash is on the move." He spoke with a bit of a hush to his voice, almost nervous of anyone listening in. Selling off their people's iron didn't seem that big of a deal to Carduul, but Yuri wasn't going to take chances with anyone else.

Loose lips blew reactors, after all.

"If you're still willing to help, I'll really appreciate it." A smile found the Hound once again. "I'll put your name down for a pre-order if you'd like." He teased with a pat on one of the Basilisk's barrels.

A part of him really wanted to freak out over the details of the machine. As rough as it looked, it was his first real project. But Carduul didn't seem like the type to swoon over parts commonality, design efficiency and conservation of space. No, he seemed more like an appreciator of the results.

“That they did.” A softened quip in reply, “Though, their sleekness compared to the older designs felt too modern for my personal taste.” Lightly jesting, as he continued to pace around, a hand briefly touching upon one of the several guns adorning its front. “It’s good that you continue to pursue new designs despite their effectiveness. It helps to sharpen the mind.”

With that, he had briefly fallen silent to listen to the explanations of the shistavanen. It made sense Yuri wouldn’t call themselves a soldier, the more he thought of it- when one experienced loss from war, it was only natural to shy away from such. “Standing here amongst this cause is already doing more than what some can say.” Was a shortened affirmation to Maji’s aspirations. Not every individual in a crusade, after all, was a soldier. Logistics won wars. The helm briefly tilted upwards, to sweep across the factory’s surroundings. “...And though I knew her not, I am certain she would be proud to see where you have come upon your own two feet.” Reminded words of comfort to be given in reply. Though he saw no need to harp upon it…the tone of sincerity made it difficult to respond without some manner of emotion.

His musings came to a brief pause as a more pressing matter resurfaced. “...Ah, of course.” A nod, the mask thankfully avoiding the brief flit of a sheepish expression upon features. He knew, of course- their sacred metal bargained off was a big deal. He hadn’t forgotten. The mandalorian was merely waiting for when the other was properly ready to approach their mistake. That time, it seemed, would be upon them soon enough. “Of course I would be willing to, vod. Merely call, and I would answer once able.” …Though, there was an amused tilt of his head at the ‘sweetened’ deal given. In the tilt, his eyes briefly flickered back to rest upon the darkened hull of the basilisk.

In truth, Carduul never really had one such a beast of steel to call his own. One truly bonded with, as those fantastical tales he read would have him believe possible. It elicited a small ‘hah,’ in a half-laugh. “Correcting this mistake and aiding this burden of redemption would be reward enough…” He lightly drawled, “But you make a tempting offer. I’m curious of this one’s intent,” A small pat of the frame, “What cause it would be put towards that differentiates from its predecessor. This model is able to…think, yes? You said it went berserk upon its first activation.”

It was true that he had never even been one for the vast technological prowess of his kin. He knew of its boons, and all its capabilities…he simply felt more grounded in taking a personal hand in his exploits. Perhaps that made him a bit old-fashioned. Though, after the recent battle of Humbarine, fighting alongside Fett…well, suffice to say he realized perhaps he was going a bit too far in eschewing such capabilities. Still, if there was one thing the once-Mand’alor valued, it was the mere act of learning. He remembered bothering the armorsmith over countless revisions the more he learnt with the new armor he now bore.

Hound from the Underground
Leaning against the Basilisk, Yuri took a long drag from his smoke before a laugh expelled the smoke between them. He couldn't help but find a joke in Carduul's assumption of the Hound's mother. "Clearly you never met her. Ma would kick my ass if she saw the state of this place." He remarked with another toke.

At least the man was still willing to help Yuri. It was a huge weight off his shoulders, having someone to help so willingly. But when Carduul asked about the prototype's capabilities, Yuri's eyes widened with a passionate glimmer. He laughed at the observation, somewhat embarrassed of how the incident happened. "Yeah, we used a Howler's personality matrix and modified it. Cranked up the aggression, but we disabled the IFF, forgot to turn it back on. Only reason we're still talkin' is 'cause it couldn't decide what to shoot first. We haven't gotten around to fixin' it yet." He admitted with a shake of his head.

Looking back at Carduul, he tried to figure out how to explain the difference between the two Basilisks. "So..." He took another drag and flicked the ash aside. "Think back on..." He ran through his memories to find a relatable moment. "Think back to Onderon, or Naboo. A bunch of guys used Howlers there. It's fast and it can fight, but it ain't got the armour or firepower for sustained fights, not unless you wanna level an entire city with a seismic charge." He began to explain, hands shifting and waving subconsciously to try and paint a picture.

"Against soft targets, one's enough. But with an entrenched enemy, you needed a whole squadron to do damage. This bad boy's got the firepower of half a squad of Howlers on its own. Another issue I've personally had in the past was drillin' through armoured targets. The Howler needs to lock down and divert power. So that means no shields or countermeasures. The armour wasn't think enough if an enemy decides to attack it, but it ain't an issue here. In conventional terms, the Howler's a fighter, this thing's a gunship, or... like, flyin' artillery." He explained happily with determination.

But there was the worry that he was overwhelming the man, maybe even boring him.

Was this the struggle that awaited him? Not having people who grasp the concept?

"Anyway..." He crushed the bud beneath his boot and straightened himself. "Lemme get this one flyin' and fighting, you'll see for yourself. It won't replace the Howler, it's too sluggish for that. But it'll be a lot more effective to cover our guys and break enemy lines." He gestured for Carduul to follow as he led him back to the office, but not before sparing one last glance back at the prototype. "Thinkin' of callin' it the 'Mangonel'. Type of siege weapon people used in the old times. I think you'll look good flyin' one of those around." He shrugged, looking at Carduul from the corner of his eye.

It was probably time for them to move. He could always bore the man further after the job was done. "I received word that the stash is on Nar Shaddaa. They're waitin' on a buyer, so gettin' it shouldn't be a problem for us. You ever been?" He asked the man as he led him up the catwalk.

A light hum of amusement escaped him in turn, though he offered no further comment. He was more intent on listening to the shortened explanations given.

Carduul didn’t actually know much of the inner workings of droids. He was no true craftsman- in a pinch, perhaps, but far from explaining it in any thorough manner. “Ah…so it’s a modification from a…personality template?” Words came a tad deliberately, as if he was trying to veil some childish disappointment. That took away a bit from the glamour. Then again, there were countless tales of droids slowly coming to their own the longer they were left with newfound memories. Gaze briefly tilted towards it. “Such programmed instincts intrigue me. They say basilisks can become quite the steadfast companions, given the proper opportunity. Semi-sentient, and the like…” Though, it felt as if every droid was ‘semi-sentient’ in some way.

The recollection that was brought thereafter had brought memories of such days back to mind once again. The promising beginnings of such a revitalization, now merely another bold attempt amidst many. “I do recall the battles fought there, yes.” Giving a curt nod. He even remembered there was chatter over the comms channels betwixt Yuri and Sahan- the infancy of that movement, regardless. And upon Onderon, there had been countless basilisks led by Hakon Fett in a charge against the palace. “You give an apt frame of reference.” Now he could properly recall glimpsing those sleeker designs he had seen a’fore, mixed in with the more ‘outdated’ ones.

“...Those are problems I’ve noticed I face often, as well.” He acknowledged with a contemplative drawl of words. Nearly every single assault he’s carried out had been upon an entrenched position of some kind. To break the enemy lines, then swiftly pull out his troops…truthfully, that all sounded like his modus operandi. There were a few further nods, as his gaze tilted off from the basilisk with a peer towards the pointed remark. “Even upon Humbarine, t’was precisely that situation of which I was mired in- caught between lines of battle of entrenched positions, of which I would need to cover the retreat of… though that makes me wonder the sort of armament you plan to equip it with, to suit such a diverse role as proposed.” Maji almost made it seem like a sales pitch. If that was the aim, one could say he was sold. “...For I can hardly refuse such an offer. That sounds well-suited to my needs…yet, if I may ask a step further, I would wish for this very beast of steel.” An odd request, perhaps—asking for the first one fresh off the assembly line was bound to have a lot of ‘quirks’ that would usually be filtered out with time. Maybe that was exactly what he was looking for. “...Truthfully, I am a poor chooser of names for others. I would have to give some further thought, were I to truly fight alongside such a thing. I am sure it would come with time. The model's name suits well for its planned line.”

As the topic shifted back with a passing glimpse backwards, his attention focused forwards to the pressing task ahead of them. “I haven’t.” He admitted in reply. “I merely know it is one of many hives that scum of villainy have set their roots deep into.” Well-studied as he was… Carduul’s lifestyle beforehand did not lend well to experience of the galaxy itself. He was practically a hermit, only recently travelling across the further reaches of the galaxy. And, unwillingly, the very edges of wild space and the void beyond. “But if they’re making it that easy, then no, t’would not be a problem for us.” Steps had followed upwards with a lift of his polearm with each movement. “I imagine you, however, know more of the planet than I.”

Hound from the Underground
It had been months since Yuri could speak to someone, talk shop and speculate about new ideas. Apart from Vara, he didn't really have anyone else to talk to... none living, anyway. His was a sad existence, indeed. The Mand'alor seemed to be following along nicely with the vision for the new droids, though the man's request earned a cough of surprise from the Hound. "You won't win me over with your usage of t'was." He quipped, though didn't say much else as he mulled over Carduul's words.

Walking back to his office, a beaming grin took hold upon learning of the man's inexperience. "Oh yeah, dangerous planet. Eats ya alive, guns, drugs and loose broads on every corner. It's karkin' amazing." He couldn't keep a serious tone to save his life. "I lived there for a good couple years. There's this great Kowakian stand in the industrial district I lived close to. Good spice, too." He continued with a shrug. "Just need to get my armour, we takin' your ship or mine?" He spared a glance at Carduul as he began to collect his armour. One piece after another was tossed into a bag, finally topped off with his holsters and helmet.

Yuri took the liberty to also toss some extra toys into a weapons crate, just in case the situation needed more firepower. Finally set, the Hound fell in beside the Mand'alor to lead the way out.

As they walked, however, Yuri's nose began to scrounge. "So... you want that model?" He asked with squinted eyes and a tilt of his head. "A pre-production prototype that's barely workin'?" He needed to make sure the man didn't need a trip to the hospital. "I mean... personality matrix is easy to fix, I can get its AI up and running once we're back. But... mechanically, I can't guarantee anything about its performance. If you're dead serious, lemme just fix it up once we're done testing. But the Ironworks' got a reputation to uphold. I don't feel comfortable giving clients unproven tech." He was insistent, the mere thought of someone jumping at the chance to buy up an unreliable machine was unbelievable.

At the end of the day, though, it was Carduul's choice. If he was feeling suicidal, Yuri wasn't going to tell him otherwise. "By the way, you need anything? Can borrow ya some gear if you need." He offered, lighting a cigarette once they stepped into the freezing streets of Tor Valum.

The end of his lips curled into a slight grin, unseen as it was behind the helm. Yet, one well-versed in the culture may well as imagine the expression regardless upon the lighter quip that came thereafter, “I simply like the way it rolls off the tongue.”

As he walked not far behind Maji, his brow furrowed beneath the helm with the description given. It was frankly difficult to tell if the other was exaggerating or not. “It does not sound like a good place.” He bluntly commented in turn. “But if we are to go, I would rather your own. My own ship, I feel, would draw undue attention from its outdated design.” One may as well call him an antiques collector, the amount of older technology relied upon. It was true that they were modified over time to better fit the times, of course, but there was only so much a mechanic could do for designs centuries upon centuries old.

As he had watched the other pack the panoply of different armament, there had only been a brief glance to check his own person for his ever-present armament. Not that he ever made use of much aside from his melee weapon. Moments thereafter, they had walked side-by-side out, with a curious gaze tilting sidelong. “These sorts of models are often fit for modification over time, are they not?” He posed in reply. “I don’t mean strip it of its weapons or what-not, or half-bake it. But, when it is ready, indeed…I would like this one.” Perhaps it was idle whim that compelled him to say such a thing. Or the intrigue that came from the mind going berserk initially upon creation. Nonetheless, Carduul could use a boon such as that on the battlefield. “Though, I suppose I don’t yet know what its capabilities are. It sounds like an appealing companion to have on the battlefield, all the same. Consider me a...tester, I suppose. Those are often necessary, yes?” Perhaps he would have to ask at some point about the weaponry that could be even equipped to such a platform. Still, the thought of testing such a thing firsthand was amusing.

“...What sort of gear?” A curious prod thereafter, the helm tilting to glance once again. “I’ll admit…I have been noticing it would be use to update my arsenal to combat new foes, of late.”

Not that Carduul ever truly had utilized much of his arsenal aside from his ever-present weapon, the poleaxe. His suit had gone through ever-so-slight modifications with each encounter he had to account for new threats. Perhaps it was some nagging sense of honor that was undue for the likes of Sith- the Jedi, at the very least, were foes worthy of that respect at times. The Sith, however, may as well be considered vermin. Barely even worth considering as sentient, beyond their wish to destroy and subjugate. Times were changing, and with it so must he evolve as well.

Hound from the Underground
The Mand'alor's answer earned a snicker from the Hound, it was only a matter of time before he figured out how to get under the man's skin. He hated how well they got along. Transport was also quickly sorted out, and thus begun the trek to Yuri's personal hangar. Carduul did pique Yuri's curiosity, though. "Outdated? Buddy, my freighter is forty years old. Can't imagine yours is worse." He remarked with a snicker.

The topic of the Basilisk continued, much to Yuri's delight. It was clear that the man liked what he saw without even knowing of its capabilities. Yuri nodded in understanding, only looking at Carduul when he asked about the type of gear Yuri proposed. "I mean... Whistling Birds, blasters, flamethrower, disruptor... whatever you need. I got enough stuff on my ship for a whole squad of troops." He explained with a shrug. Adjusting the case in his hands, he spared a quick turn to his compatriot.

"As for the Basilisk? If you're willing, then sure. 'Sides, I think you'll like what you see. Sensor scramblers, jammers, bunch of ECM systems. Fitted launchers, shockwave rods and cannons as well. Hell, part of the lower chassis is just for a turbolaser." There was a bit of bragging in his voice. "And yeah, all of it can be used to melt stuff. If you want us to paint it up for ya, just lemme know how you'd like it." He continued with a wink.

Once they reached Yuri's freighter, the Hound led Carduul to the galley and dropped the case on the table along with his bag of armour. Compared to how it usually looked, it was relatively clean for a change. The woman's touch in Yuri's life had an opposite effect on him. Instead of Vara cleaning after him, the Hound found himself getting annoyed with the state of things and cleaning after her.

At least she helped out.

The ship itself was visibly lived in. Posters of podraces and propaganda were sprinkled along the walls and a number of mementos helped to liven the place up. "Make yourself at home. There's ale in the fridge... harder stuff in the cupboard." He explained with a gesture to the kitchenette. Leaving the man alone for a moment, Yuri started the freighter up and got them into orbit. Within minutes they were engulfed in the swirls of hyperspace. Rejoining Carduul in the galley, Yuri tossed his jacket into his room and dropped into the bunk by the table.

"It ain't too long of a flight, I've done it enough to know the fast routes. So... you've never been to Nar Shaddaa? No shady dealin' or bounty hunting?" He perked up in hopes of avoiding an awkward silence.

…Carduul was, after all, ‘youthful’ compared to most holders of that all-important ‘Mand’alor’ title from this age. Not that such a thing ever truly had the chance to be expressed in simplistic camaraderie- not without the shadows of far greater matters requiring his utmost attention, and stoicism. “I imagine it is.” He gravely gave in retort, amused though it was. “A ship with only slightly modified designs from the Mandalorian Wars is a wonderful piece of history, but makes for a poor method of transport these days, I imagine…”

Sensors and comm jammers, electronic warfare- those all sounded appealing. He, of all people, knew how critical communication was to a war effort. “A turbolaser?” He prodded, “I knew not such things could be mounted upon such a…tiny frame.” It was made apparent that Carduul was not exactly a connoisseur of weapons. Some names and descriptors were familiar, others were not. Still, if Maji had honed and approved of these tools- he would trust in their efficacy. His helm glanced up from the Basilisk with the final offer, eliciting a wry half-laugh; “Ah-hah…paint?” For a moment, he seemed a bit skeptical of whether he would truly accept such a thing. It hardly seemed necessary, let alone practical. Though, a moment of silence passed with lips pursed in thought. “...Red and gold could suit quite well... perhaps I’ll think it over.” Was the subdued murmur after the pause.

That trust in the basilisk’s capabilities extended to the rest of the kit that was mentioned, with a glance towards the packed case before moving alongside. “I’ll take a look on the way there as well, then.” Was his affirmation.

Once they had entered and settled what equipment they needed, even he could tell the place was cleaner compared to the room he last saw Maji inhabit. Though it wasn't perfect…it was still a ‘lively’ sight. He imagined one needed such personal touches when one made home upon a ship. Frankly, he himself wasn’t quite used to such a lifestyle. As the ship took off, and his gaze roamed the surroundings of the galley he was momentarily left in, he was expecting that was it.

Carduul wouldn’t have minded the silence; he was fine merely idling in his own thoughts. Yet, he was far from opposed to chatter, when the opportunity presented itself- something that happened the moment the other rentered, and the crusader glanced back over. “No.” He simplistically answered. “Truthfully…I have been rather isolated from the galaxy’s planets until the renewed crusade. Dxun is the only place I can truly claim familiarity—and that is not even a planet. Everywhere else I’ve merely, heard or read of. Watching the varying factions wage their wars amidst politics from the sidelines... that is all I needed at the time.” The tone was difficult to discern in that moment, as the visor briefly trailed off. It was a flatter tone, yet, marked with almost a sense of wistfulness, or perhaps wonder. When one’s life was once wholeheartedly dedicated to preservation of history, after all…to endanger a repository was foolish. Whatever expression behind the helm had left by the time his gaze refocused.

“I take it you, on the other hand, have far more experience with Nar Shaddaa- and plenty of other planets.” Topic to turn back to the Shistavanen with a prod, helm tilting inquisitively as he made the assumption. One with an obvious answer, given their current mission- yet it wasn't framed in an antagonistic way.

Hound from the Underground
While it wouldn't take them days to reach the smuggler's moon, Yuri still had to figure out how to entertain his guest for a few hours. Carduul gave a bit of information on his past, revealing his relative inexperience in regards to the wider galaxy. He eventually turned the question onto Yuri, earning a snicker in response.

"Could say I got around, yeah." He remarked. An understatement, for sure. The Hound got up and made his way to the fridge to grab a can of soda for the both of them. "Travelled a lot as a kid and, until recently, I went where the work took me. Ya tend to get around with smuggling an' merc work." He admitted with a shrug, sliding a can over to Carduul's side of the table. Opening his own can, Yuri leaned back in thought for a moment.

"Felucia is good hunting, Alderaan's got amazing mountains. Tatooine isn't recommended, at least for me. Onderon's markets are always a blast. Coruscant smells like something died there... Denon's got a flow to it as well, though it ain't that much better than Coruscant." He spoke with a happy glimmer in his eyes, almost nostalgic over the experiences. "Between you an' me, though, one visit to Umbara was enough for a lifetime. I ain't in a rush to see that skughole again." He chuckled, taking a sip of his drink.

He looked back at the Mand'alor after a moment. "So you've never seen the galaxy, you fly an ancient ship, you're scared of technology... what kinda hole did you crawl out of?" He asked with another laugh. He had questions, this was the perfect time to get an answer for them. Perhaps he could figure out how the man's mind worked with this moment of respite. Only problem was that Yuri was already at a loss. Dxun didn't ring any bells, not immediately. He couldn't recall ever needing to go there for work.

He had quietly listened to the other’s reply with the idle chatter struck up. There was an eye of the beverage offer—surprisingly, Carduul was not really one for alcohol. Something drilled over years of esoteric training, included the warnings of distractions to the mind. This, however, didn’t seem to be it- it just didn’t have the right scent, nor appearance. It was taken with a small dip of his head. The other clearly travelled far more than he ever had- at least, not until the Crusade. He had seen a myriad of wonderful, exciting new sights with that. Experienced the thrill and heart-pumping adrenaline he had longed for with every battle.

“Felucia sounds interesting. Any hunting location does, with all the unique fauna a planet may hold.” He placidly commented in turn, a hand shifting to lift the mask ever-so-slightly from his face with a slight ‘hiss’ of pressurization. It was then that the edge was lifted to unseen lips, to sample the liquid within. “...Umbara wasn’t so bad, was it?” He lightly questioned with a tilt of his head once he finished supping the contents, the mask slipping on once more. “It reminded me of home. I quite liked it for that. An unforgiving planet for unforgiving people. It breeds strength rather well.”

Words lingered until the latter comment drew some amusement. “Hah,” Another soft wisp of a laugh escaped his helm. “I am not scared of technology. I know well its boons and uses- I merely haven’t the chance to truly exercise the extent of it, in a manner that would work with what I know rather than against…” Which was, in reality, a fancy way of saying that he didn’t exactly know how to weave in all the technological weaponry quite so well as he did the strokes of his polearm in the midst of a fight. “...Call it a library, or an archive. Something of that ilk, I imagine. One far divorced from the matters of the galaxy, so that Mandalorians may persevere by any means necessary.” A hand gesturing to himself, “I trust you’ve heard of Dxun, no? Heart of the Mandalorian Wars? There were even a few skirmishes bewtixt my crusaders and the Alliance, with the crusades...” He mused in idle recollection. He had thought nearly every Mandalorian knew of the small moon's cultural significance, though his existence was owed to the lack thereof. It simply seemed impossible to not.

Carduul spoke, but Yuri wasn't really listening. It finally worked. The helmet was lifted ever-so-slightly to expose the warrior's lips and chin to take a measured sip of his cooldrink. Yuri tilted over slightly to peer past the can and see what hid behind the T-visor. Why did he hide his face? Was he clean-shaven or could he actually pull off some decent facial hair. Was he one of those cultists or did he just prefer anonymity? He wasn't some kind of criminal with a death mark, so why would he?

“It reminded me of home. I quite liked it for that. An unforgiving planet for unforgiving people. It breeds strength rather well.”

"Hm? Oh..." Yuri quickly took a sip of his drink to recover. "Nearly gettin' trampled by a stampede didn't really leave a golden rating for me." He remarked with an idle grin. If his guest enjoyed Umbara, he wasn't going to fault the man for it. But Umbara could stay where it was, as far as Yuri was concerned. Carduul went on to explain his complicated relationship with technology, though that also earned a snicker from the Hound. "So what I'm hearin' is... you grew up under a rock and you never learned?" He teased the man with a slap on his pauldron. "Always worth investing in a few toys. They tend to come in handy." He continued. Perhaps some gear could be arranged for Carduul? He was going to have to play with that idea once they were home.

Yuri was about to leave the man to his devices when an interesting question was brought up. Seated upright, Yuri thought it over for a second. "Obviously I know of it. Had to sit through the same boring history class like every Foundling. But... nah, never been." He answered, finishing his drink. "Never had a reason to be there. Any good sights?" He looked back at Carduul with a smile.

There had been a glance back over once the mask was slipped back on, to catch a glimpse of the other staring at him quite intently. A brow slightly lofted beneath the helm. Had he done something improper, perhaps? However, the change of subject had distracted him from the matter for now, thoughts turning towards wistful ruminations of home. One that was far divorced from the cold metal ships they often inhabited these days.

“Any planet like that takes getting used to.” He chimed in turn, head turning slightly towards Yuri. Though, there had been an unseen roll of eyes- perhaps noticed by the subtle shift of the head- upon the latter comment. “As I’m said…since the battle of Humbarine, I’ve noticed that I best look into it.” He conceded with a wave of his free hand.

When it came to history, however, Carduul simply could not help but to elaborate upon hearing the question. “It’s a…primal kind of beauty.” Was his reply, rife with a sense of fondness and enthusiasm both. “The teeming jungle, full of exotic creatures- one with which you intrinsically develop an understanding of, over time.” There had been a swirl of the beverage in his hand with the thought.

“It is dangerous, and unforgiving- but there is no greater exhilaration of reaching one of its summits, knowing that you, yourself, have bested its trials and come to stand there with naught but your skills to thank. And only then, with that assurance in heart, is one able to gaze upon its landscape and appreciate it without the worry of being consumed by it. That is why, after all, I continue to hold its enclave as a prime place to teach new foundlings…”

Words had eventually slowed to a pause, with a realization he had gone on a small tirade over a prompt that…likely hardly warranted such a lengthy prose. “...Ah, but I am rambling. ‘Tis the only place I can truly claim to know, after all.” The crusader letting a softened chuckle escape him, as he leaned back from his intent muse. “...It is a different kind of euphoria than anything else one can feel. The sights, from the historical to merely the planet itself, are but one part. I'm sure you've seen plenty of varying things though, out there- and I'm certain one would feel similar in one way or another.”

Carduul proceeded to regale Yuri with the stories of his homeworld. The dangerous wilderness and unforgiving nature did a decent job of brewing some curiosity within the Hound. He nodded along, listening intently to the description of Dxun. Carduul tried to excuse his ramblings but Yuri silently waved the notion off.

He glanced off at one of the many posters on the wall in idle thought for a few moments. "Sounds kinda fun, actually." Yuri admitted. "I don't get to do it often anymore, but I like the occasional trip into the wild. Alderaan was fun, its got some beautiful mountain ranges. I used to go campin' on Kestri a few times as well." He shrugged, finishing his drink. "Might need to make a trip to Dxun one of these days... once things calm down for a bit." He admitted with a chuckle.

He understood the Mand'alor's love for his world very well. It was a sentiment the Hound finally began to share again after so many years away from Kestri.

His attention turned back to Carduul again, a hand came up to gesture to the man's helmet. "So... what's the story with that?" He began, sitting back with folded arms as he turned his undivided attention onto the warrior. "I've never seen you without your helmet. You got a baby face or are you one of those "Children of the Watch" cultists?" He asked, finally getting the chance to make his curiosity Carduul's problem.

His head gave a small tilt of intrigue with that. “Is that so? I am surprised. You seem like you would enjoy the wild and outdoors.” In an idle observation, head dipping with a small nod. “But do feel free to inquire, for I would be happy to have you visit. I believe us preservers are all that truly stay upon that moon, these days…I much prefer it that way.” Gaze leaning off with that thought. “But I am very happy to learn of all these other worlds- Kestri, especially. I do adore planets of all sorts that Mando’ade have come to call ‘home.’”

Yet, he was caught a touch off-guard with the question that followed. It had earned a hint of amusement, and a brief lull of silence that preluded thought. “...That would be the easy excuse, wouldn’t it? Yet, I do not subscribe to that belief.” Carduul clarified with a gesture towards himself. For a further moment, there was a pick at what he was to say…how one could even explain the compulsion without it being tied to the most obvious answer.

“...The Mando’ade have always been fond of iconography.” Came a slow start. “This mask was made in inspiration of those who preceded me- of all those varying Mand’alors and those who wished to aspire of such. I so dearly wished to live up to all of those expectations, yet…” Hand briefly tapped twice against the mask, “...I am but a man, ‘neath this. One susceptible to all the flaws that come with such a thing—fears, doubt, mistakes, mortality. When one looks up towards a leader, most do not wish to think of such things. They wish to see a symbol of strength, and unity to rally behind. Thus, this mask is but one of many ways I aim to please such a wish. To have my face witness would dampen that percieved image, for some.”

It was a heavy topic, one might think- perhaps a bit sudden. But, it was a blunt, truthful answer for why he maintained that stoic image that was the helmet. One that, truthfully, differed vastly from the array of emotions seemingly held by the philosophical crusader, yet represented him all the same. “...Does that make any sense?”

Hound from the Underground
Yuri's attention was solely on Carduul as he listened to his reasoning. He could understand where the man was coming from, he could see why it would appeal to people on a subconscious level. The Hound, as usual, had a different outlook on things. "Now, ya see... I get it." He admitted, slumping back to get comfortable.

"But at the same time, I see things from the other angle. For me... transparency was always big. You see someone's eyes, you see them. And for me... I've always preferred to follow people I could see." He began to explain. "If I'm raidin' a base or I'm in a firefight... if I'm seein' the commander I'm supposed to follow is just as tired as me. Just as battered and bleedin' like me.... I know that's a leader I can trust. 'Cause if they're in the same karkin' mess I'm in, that means they're willing to put themselves in the same danger as everyone else. And that tells me I can happily take a bolt for them, 'cause I know they'll do the same for me." A warm smile adorned his maw, cybernetic hand gesturing as he spoke.

He rose from his seat finally. "I don't think that's something other people care about, but that's how I see it. I don't need inspiration, I wanna know that the other guy bleeds the same as me. Means they ain't got a mindset that they're better than everyone else." He spared a glance at the cockpit then turned back to Carduul. "We should be gettin' close. I'm gonna suit up." He took his leave and left the Mand'alor in the galley.

"Hopefully the winter pelt can chill for a bit..." He grumbled to himself, closing the door behind him.

For the better part of a half hour Yuri was locked in his room. When he finally emerged, he was clad in his heavy Beskar with his helmet clipped to his belt. His twin pistols rested in their plastoid holsters and his rifle clung to the side of his jetpack. One last addition was made to his kit in the form of a flamethrower from the crate they brought along. As big as a heavy blaster pistol, Yuri clipped the holster to his lower back and made his way to the cockpit to guide them down.

The smuggler's moon awaited them. In a matter of minutes they were planetside and the freighter's boarding ramp lowered with a hydraulic whine. "Mister Mand'alor, welcome to Nar Shaddaa." Yuri quipped, arms outstretched as the neon skyline met them outside.

Though it wasn’t distressing to admit such aloud, per-say, it still felt strange. Carduul wouldn’t have dreamed of doing such before—perhaps he was simply feeling more at ease with his kin, these days. It certainly helped when one did not wholly feel the anticipating eyes of every Mandalorian upon his back.

Yet, there was hardly a moment of silence. His attention had returned to rest upon Maji, and quietly he listened. Only to find himself, truthfully, stumped. He should’ve expected the answer, yet it still managed to catch him off-guard to hear it aloud. After all, the Shistavanen seemed like one to favor bravado and the like at first glance- the very opposite of what he claimed in the next breath. A wrong assumption on his part, it seemed. It felt strange to think of mere camaraderie holding such a power, yet…it wouldn’t be the first time in their history, he supposed. To witness a smile of all things to curl across the other’s features caused brows to knit together beneath the mask.

That look had made a gnawing question reappear in his mind- one that hadn't really had a proper way to be asked given the Hound's prior hostility towards him. He could have posed it all the same, but perhaps that would come for a later time. After this mission, perhaps- where he would doubtlessly learn more of the individual across from him.

“...A most curious perspective, as ever, Maji. I shall remember that.” He thoughtfully acknowledged with a slight dip of his head- for he truly did enjoy learning of others' perspectives. Yes, it was better not to sour that moment with such questions. When the other had left off, he was left to mull over what was said for the next half hour. His weapons were picked up in much the same fashion- though, a long-barreled rifle had seemingly taken his interest, for it was strapped to his shoulder as he left. It was as if he had geared for a beast hunt- and, in a sense, he had.

It was only then, ironically enough, that Maji found it fitting to call him such a title. One of which he still felt rather undeserving of, yet could not fully shake off for the sake of his kin- though it was merely a jest in passing, no doubt. When steps had left the cozy ship alongside, there had been a gaze towards the myriad scenery before them—lanes of low-altitude ships in constant transit, artificial lights as far as the eye could see.

“Oh, it’s…” ‘Beautiful’ wasn’t quite the right word. It was new, something strange and unfamiliar, but the one trait that stood out… Vibrant. I never was one keen on crowded planets such as this…but I imagine it be quite interesting to live were it not for its usual inhabitants.” He admitted sidelong, as he stepped down the ramp and onto the metal flooring below. Gaze briefly cast over his shoulder as he did, “I can hardly navigate this place yet, so I trust you’ve the route to those buyers we’ll be alleviating?” A light, coy quip to pose back.
