The stage was set for the battle to decide the rim world of Aegina. The locals, determined to defend their homes against Imperial invasion have called out to the Alliance to help them. The stage is set for a grand battle.
To the south the Imperial forces were arrayed on the plain before the river. In order to cross this obstacle they had decided to send a force of infantry to ford the river to the east and swing in, whilst another party crossed the river nearer the bridge to drive off the attackers.
Meanwhile, an elite force of stormtroopers was being sent to directly assault Rockport and seize it for the Empire.
The Imperial tanks and artillery were held in reserve, waiting for the bridge to be seized.
To the north the Aeginans and their Alliance supporters were determined to defend the city. Leaving only a small force to defend Rockport and a party to try and destroy the bridge, they have withdrawn most of their forces behind the defence lines at the neck to the north. It is there that they wait....
The scene is set for a titanic battle.
(A map of dispositions is attached. The blobs' size is not representative, it just indicates a unit.)
(Remember, this is a battle where you post as NPCs, making moves, not dictating the enemy's actions, but being fair and reasonable.)
(Here in spoiler text is the OOC information and orders of battle.)

Assault on Aegina City
Location: Environs of Aegina City; capital of the planet of the same name.
Participants: Galactic Empire (Attacker), Galactic Alliance (Defender)
Planetary Conditions: Aegina II is a terrestrial planet which orbits a standard main sequence star. It has a day/night cycle of 4 standard days and a rotation period of 270 standard days. Discovered during the Old Republic, the planet’s relative isolation and the various wars which embroiled the galaxy did not permit large scale colonisation or settlement. However, Aegina has grown in population over the centuries until it now numbers some ten million inhabitants, more than half of whom are concentrated within a few miles of Aegina City. The nearby town of Rockport has a sizeable population. The planet’s significance comes from the fact that the rare minerals iridium and niobium are found in relatively greater amounts in nearby mountain ranges. Those products are shipped unprocessed from Aegina, though recent investors are working to create a smelter and refinery on the planet. The overall terrain of Aegina is flat mixed with areas of high plateaus and ridges towards the centre of the continent. The ground is unusually alkaline, making the growing of crops difficult, though not impossible. Relatively low rainfall means imported crops must be provided with desalinated water from the sea, as well as the meagre local rainfall.
Political Conditions: The planet is officially part of the Galactic Empire, but high taxes and unpopular interference has led the planet to as for aid from the Alliance. Beset with their own problems, the Alliance has been able to dispatch a small force to assist the locals in defending their city from the Empire. The Imperials too have only managed to send a relatively small force, as Aegina is not a huge priority on their list of targets, but the quality of this strike force is superior to that of their enemies.
Battlefield Description: Aegina City sits on a relatively small peninsula which sticks out north into the sea. The Aeginans have fortified the narrow neck protruding from the mainland, and have put guard posts around the peninsula. To the south the main road runs along a causeway above the plain and crosses a river three miles south of the neck at a large bridge. The river itself is not impassable to infantry, but is to wheeled vehicles seeking to cross.
Weather Conditions: Weather in this part of Aegina is usually cloudless apart from the summer months where almost all the region’s rainfall occurs. It is currently spring, temperatures are around 65 Fahrenheit in the middle of the day, dropping to 45 or lower at night. High winds are common, blowing from the south.
Imperial Order of Battle
[*]Stormtrooper Battalion (Major) (612 troops all ranks) (A Quality)
[*]Attack wing of 18 Bombers. (C Quality)
[*]Attack wing of 27 Fighters. (C Quality)
Alliance Order of Battle
[*]Aegina Defence Force (General)
[*]Rockport Garrison (Colonel)
[*]Aegina City Static Defences (Colonel)
Note on Quality: The quality ratings above are guides to the unit’s ability and equipment. The scale runs from A (best) to F (worst). C is the middle average. Trained, professional forces fall into this class, while veteran and elite units are rated as B and A respectively. Units which are of limited experience and equipment are rated as D while militia and raw support troops receive E and F.
Battle Objectives: The Imperial goal is to smash through the Alliance defences quickly and take Aegina City. Doing this will effectively end organised resistance and allow mopping up to be conducted. The Town of Rockport should also be an objective as it contains a space port. The Alliance and Aeginan goal is to defend the city and inflict enough casualties to force the Imperials back. If this is done further reinforcements can arrive, and the Imperials will be forced to retreat, conceding Aegina’s independence.
