ADVANCED SYSTEMS
Advanced Weapon Systems:
Nova - An older Aurora Industries weapon, the Nova tubrolaser system creates a scatter effect when firing this is caused by the beam splitters. The Nova unlike many Aurora weapons technology is not based on sianium power generators. Instead, the Nova utilizes beam splitter technology that allows the weapon to create six separate streams from a singular particle beam. From there the beams follow typical turbolaser protocols, such as being fed through energized Tibanna gas before moving through modified galven coils. The drawbacks of the Nova are that one, the Nova while maintaining the same strength as a standard tubrolaser has its range cut in half as well as a slightly lower rate of fire.
Corona - Developed by Aurora Industries, the Corona hits three times harder than that of a standard turbolaser while maintaining the standard range and rate of fire. It does this by utilizing the sianium power generator, also developed by Aurora Industries. The drawbacks of the potential to overheat which can cause catastrophic results for those aboard.
Shortbow - Developed by Primo Victorian Shipwright, the Shortbow Plasma Railguns are long-range weapons that focus on damage over time rather than a hard initial impact. A soft impact followed by ten seconds of damage to enemy shields which then require the Shortbows to cooldown for three minutes, in addition, the Shortbow runs the risk of blowback as well as overheating. The Shortbows are also quite vulnerable to ion damage which can not only caused them to shut down but may trigger catastrophic blowback or overheating.
Scramblers / Jammers - Equipped with an array of comm scramblers, sensor jammers of a various sort the Stormcloud hopes to keep her opponents in the dark. Either by scrambling communication efforts, jamming sensor arrays or employing electronic countermeasures, disrupting HoloNet Relays. At best she makes it difficult for enemy vessels to do their jobs of getting a lock on her, sending out communications or running sensor scans.
Shields and Hull - Ion shields, shield boosters, and a reactive plating system help to keep the Stormcloud in the fight. Anti-Ion Mesh in combination with de-Ionizers, cap drains and socket guards help the Stormcloud against Ion/EMP based weapons. The reactive hull plating creates an equal distribution or dispersal of energy from energy based weapons. Reinforced hull helps enable the ship to withstand harder kinetic hits over a longer period of time than ships who are not utilizing a reinforced hull.
Modified Sensors - Still tasked with the non-combat role of scientific data analysis the Stormcloud has a number of modified sensors. Seismic, weather, radiation, atmospheric and many other sensor arrays that make up the advanced sensor suite. While the Multi-Directional Long Range Sensor Suite is made specifically for long range and contains a number of both scientific and tactical sensor arrays.
Strengths:
Defense: The Stormcloud III boasts a high defense rating that allows the vessel to take on more damage. Reinforced hull and reactive plating system help disperse energy damage. While an anti-ion mesh and anti-tractor beam shroud make it difficult to impact the Stormcloud with ion/emp weaponry or hold her with a tractor beam. This is to go along with comm scramblers and electronic countermeasure systems to help against electronic warfare.
Slow: Unfortunately the Stormcloud III still possesses a rather uncommon problem that can happen to ships of her size and class. The Stormcloud III rates low on both maneuverability and speed, allowing faster and more maneuverable vessels more time to hit while also hitting blind spots that firing arcs are unable to manage while turning.
Vulnerabilities: While she does have a high defense and keeps ion/emp along with projectile weapons in mind, she is still vulnerable to hypervelocity rounds, gravity weapons and an overwhelming amount of ion/emp weapons. And while she may maintain an anti-sympathetic detonation mechanism these too can become vulnerable should ship systems go down or have otherwise been penetrated by high-impact rounds via kinetic based weapons.
A third-generation assault cruiser, the Stormcloud III is the continuation of the Mark III Imperial Project. The Stormcloud carries on the legacy of its predecessor the Stormcloud II and maintains the scientific mission outside of combat just as well. And rather than having a focused set of weapons, the Stormcloud carries a variety of options, rather is built for a variety of combat mission profiles.
As per the continued contract with Vanir Technologies and Aurora Industries, the Stormcloud III will debut three months prior to launch with exclusives for both Vanir and Aurora. The Stormcloud III is continued mark of the journey between both Aurora Industries and Primo Victorian Shipwright as PVS works on modernizing several of the older First Order models. The assault cruiser comes in at eight hundred and forty meters, and while she does bare the same amount of guns as the MK II, the MKIII still packs a punch both in standard and close range with limited long-range capabilities.
A continued drawback of the vessel sees her be a rather slow vessel for her size as well as the low turning radius which provides ample opportunity for smaller and more agile vessels to attack. As well as vulnerabilities to high impact rounds via kinetic based weapons, and although she maintains a high defense and more importantly built to withstand more ion rounds even these defenses can only hold out for so long. The Shortbows being most vulnerable to ion weapons damage, followed by the sympathetic detonation of the various munitions she may be carrying.
