He nodded to the appreciation she gave for his backup in the meeting. "You were right. I don't know why the Colonel was like that. I get it, concern of life... but every soldier came here knowing the risk. It feels like upper command is detached from what the battlefield is actually like sometimes." and then circling back around to the offer of the blaster, he placed it back down after her refusal of it, though she seemed open to the idea of using a blaster down the line. He'd keep that in mind. "Sure, we'll make a session out of it sometime. Maybe when we're not about to do a life-threatening military operation." he made a small jest, but he is serious about helping her with using a blaster.

The question then came about how he's feeling. "Both. Maybe a bit more relaxed if we were in one of the tanks down the formation instead, but our squad is built for this. We're shocktroopers, after all. Fear keeps me on edge. It's kept me alive for the longest time." it's what helps him take a step back and really think about a situation. The radio clicked in across the frequency, giving out a voice. "We're heading out soon. Estimated time at three minutes." and with that, he started to pack up the rest of his equipment. Full plated armor, heavy blaster rifle, and a large metal backpack that's meant to be contain both explosives and power cells. He's as ready as he'll ever be, sitting back down. They could hear the footsteps of the troopers outside, packing up and getting ready. He'd take the chance to ask a similar question. "How about you, Master Jedi? Getting nervous about everyone relying on you?" he did push a bit of pressure behind that, but he is curious about how she's feeling on that one with how close they are to starting the operation soon.

"I do own a pair of blasters, so I'll come prepared." She grinned and dipped her head in appreciation for the lesson. It was a small thing, but another reason to focus on the mission and make sure they all got through it alive - she wasn't going to miss it. But with that said, the conversation shifted to how he was feeling ahead of the clash, and his answer was understandable.

"Glad to hear it. Nothing wrong with feeling the tension and pressure. But everybody trusts you, and I know you'll lead them to victory." She offered another smile and then looked up as a voice called for everybody to get ready. The tanks were prepared, everybody was geared up and they had to go, so Imperial reinforcements would not arrive in time to aid the fortress.

Valery, as always, stood ready as well.

"Not nervous about the expectations, but I'm feeling a little underdressed," she joked, referring to her complete lack of armor or heavy weaponry. All she had was her tunic and the double-bladed weapon on her belt. "In all seriousness, I always feel some pressure too with these missions. Not for myself, but for the lives I'm hoping to protect with my presence." That was her primary role as a Jedi on these missions after all. Bring as many of them back home alive as she could.

Then, rather than sitting down beside him, she stepped right in front of him and reached up for a grip on the ceiling. She took a deep breath, closed her eyes and readied herself to offer guidance through her senses.

"I'm ready."

He expected her to have most of her own mentality together for this mission, but he's glad to hear it was getting to her just a little bit; in the profound sense. He would find it harder to believe that it didn't worry her at all, even with her being a Jedi. Though the comment about her outfit was taken into consideration. "If you want, we could give you some pauldrons at least with the alliance symbol. Make you all official like, soldier and Jedi." and he gestured towards some equipment at the back, the colours were mixed. It's normally reserved for his squad, but he wouldn't oppose to her taking some for herself, and he's quite sure nobody from his own squad would either.

It didn't take for the rest of their squad to hustle up and make their way in, with Spark being at the driver's seat whilst everyone sat at the back. There's a seat next to the driver's seat, meant to act as a co-operator but in this case... it'd be different. "Master Jedi, you can sit next to Spark. He'll be the driver, you just tell him which direction he has to go." and with that, Spark started turning on the engine, tapping on the radio for everyone on the frequency to hear him.

"Sergeant Anor speaking." Spark's real last name. "On the countdown of five, we'll be commencing the digging. Five... four..." and the numbers slowly went down, with everyone in the tank watching anxiously. As soon as Spark said the last number, the tank's form started to shift, showing a drill that formed around the front of the tank. It blocked a good chunk of the front window but if they were relying on Valery for navigation, that wouldn't matter.

Mrwh9B7.png

The massive drill descended into the dirt, its metal teeth gnashing and grinding against solid rock. With a deafening roar, the machine's powerful engines drove the spiraling drill bit forward, carving its way through the subterranean layers.

Dirt and debris were thrown aside as the drill's relentless progress continued. The ground trembled under the immense force, reverberating through the tunnel left behind. Showers of sparks erupted as the drill bit encountered pockets of dense minerals, but the drill was strong enough to still cut through it. All Corbin could think of is how powerful this drill is.

Spark continued to drive, but listening intently to any directions that Valery gave him.

"I prefer to keep things minimal and light, but thanks for the offer," Valery said with a smile, her eyes only briefly glancing at the offered armor. There were times when she armored up herself, but it had been a while. For years now, she has fought all her battles in the lighter tunic, just so it wouldn't deny her speed and flexibility much. Her fighting style often relied on both.

"Alright, I'll join him," she then tole Corbin, who encouraged her to join Sparks inside the cockpit. Once she got there, Valery got seated and waited for the drill to start digging into the ground, before she gently placed a hand on Spark's shoulder. Her eyes then closed, her mind drifted into the Force, and early on she already nudged him for a small, yet precise correction 2.3 degrees to their right.

"Stay on this trajectory and we'll end up right where we need to be. I'll tell you when to pitch up for an ideal approach and entry in the fortress," she then told him, while gentle movements of her hand on his shoulder were meant to guide him.

Slowly but surely, they were drawing closer to their target.

The coordinates were there for the fortress itself, but it's ensuring that they maintained a secure path towards said fortress. What happens if they were to hit a river? Ideally they were deep underground far enough for that to not happen, but better safe than sorry. Corbin wasn't quite sure how extensive Val's senses are, but he hoped it accommodated little factors like that.

The trip remained relatively quiet, with Spark steering whilst Valery continued to give directions. In that case, Corbin took advantage to go over the plan. "Remember, our priority targets are disabling the shield generators and anti-air guns. That'll give the chance for dropships to come in for more soldiers to reinforce us. Otherwise, wipe out any hostiles and capture any that surrender. The usual process. Once that's done, we'll see what the Imperials have for defences. Remember to only turn off the anti-air guns and not destroy them. If a second wave of imperials are coming, we'll need them." that's one major benefit to this plan. If they can take over the fortress from the inside effectively, they'll have a lot of equipment to work with.

TPJx0n2.png

The imposing fortress of the Imperial forces stood as a bastion of strength, its towering walls crafted from durasteel and fortified with energy shielding. Guard towers and gun emplacements dotted the perimeter, providing vantage points for the defenders.

Within the fortress, squads of stormtroopers marched with disciplined precision, their white armor gleaming under the artificial lighting. They patrolled the corridors, their blaster rifles held at the ready, ready to repel any intruders. The air echoed with their precise footsteps and the faint hum of machinery.

Control rooms buzzed with activity as officers monitored surveillance feeds and communicated with the outer perimeter defenses. Holographic displays flickered with tactical data, providing a real-time overview of the fortress's security. One could hear the occasional commanding officer barking orders, ensuring that the defences were operating at peak efficiency.

Despite their best efforts, they couldn't predict what's coming next.

"Vrask has been tearing me apart lately, missed a meeting by one minute. Guy needs to loosen up-"

"Hey, quiet. Do you feel that?"

"Feel what?"

"The ground. It's shaking."

The stormtrooper in doubt pressed his feet firmly on the ground, fixating his attention on what his partner is talking about. "Yeah... now that you mention it..." but before they could go through the process of what it could be, a tank violently erupted out from the dirt of the ground, and with it, a kick down on the door revealed a set of oddly-colored soldiers coming out with active forcefields covering their bodies.

It didn't take long for the alarms to go off, and the battle to begin.

In her deep meditative state to guide the tanks, Valery could not hear or register anything else that was being discussed inside. But that didn't make her oblivious to the plan at all. She knew the rules of engagement and understood what their priority targets were as well. For her personally, an even greater focus rested on shielding the shock troopers and waves after it, allowing them to swarm the fortress and neutralize it from within.

Valery was ready for her part.

Eventually, after guiding the tanks with incredible precision, she directed Spark into pitching up, bringing them closer to the surface with each passing second. The type of soil they passed through changed several times, until finally, the blades of the digger erupted from the ground and cut through air instead. Already positioned at the exit were Corbin and his troops, but Valery was very quick to rush through the interior to join them. So as they were met with a first wave of mostly chaotic blaster fire from the confused Imperials, she was ready to deflect it.

From each side of her double-bladed weapon, a violet blade of plasma ignited. She twirled the weapon around and pushed forward through the chaos without any hesitation, swatting away incoming fire until every last soldier had disembarked. "Push forward!" Valery called out, as she wanted them to fight for a better position with cover firsr, before advancing any further. They had to be fast in this assault, but also careful and coordinated.

"First Anti-air battery up ahead!"

The steps of the shocktroopers were quick to head out, a energy shield within one hand, blaster rifles with the other. A mixture of hits were already landing on the shields and armor, but all grazing hits. Blaster fire was exchanged between both sides, the air crackled with the distinct sound of energy weapons discharging, creating a symphony of death and destruction to soon follow. It didn't take long for the shocktroopers to take cover behind scattered debris, their determination shining through their eyes. Their blasters spat rapid volleys of red bolts, seeking out their Imperial adversaries. They maneuvered with precision and skill, relying on their training to outflank and outgun their enemies.

Slowly but surely with the help of the Master Jedi at their side, they started to get towards the anti-air battery. By the time they reached the point they need to get to, other tanks came from the ground from the exact hole they came out of, one by one, tanks were coming out and squads of Jedi and other Shocktroopers were pouring out. They became a distraction of sorts as the Rainbow Squad moved up to the nearest anti-air battery, with Spark taking over.

Spark navigated the complex array of buttons and switches. With precision, he began disarming the system, carefully bypassing security protocols. Finally, with a faint click, the anti-air battery fell silent. Its deadly cannons that once posed a grave threat now lay dormant. The soldiers exchanged relieved glances, before they reloaded their power cells for their weapons.

"Let's move onto the next one, with the rest of the troops arriving, there shouldn't be too many soldiers stopping us."

Valery was certainly glad to have Sparks with them on the main assault force. If she had been alone or fighting alongside troops without any tech expertise, she would have had to damage the Anti-Air batteries in order to take them out. But with Sparks carefully bringing them offline while the others kept him covered, they would still have the option to use the batteries against the second wave of Imperials that were scheduled to arrive later. At least, as long as the Alliance aerial assault didn't damage or destroy them instead.

Valery then turned to Corbin, as his men reloaded and readied themselves to move on to the next battery. "They have regrouped a little, so there aren't that many, but their positioning is better." He had likely spotted it himself, but she wanted to make sure each and every soldier remained focused. This was not the time to drop your guard and already believe the fight to be over.

But with that said, Valery tapped into the Force and augmented herself, allowing her to move so fast that she appeared like a blur to the naked eye. Her two blades spun again, cutting through enemy fire and soldiers alike, before she stopped and looked up at a small enemy position with sand bags. Several imperial soldiers appeared, and all of them were carrying rocket launchers.

They were not targeting the tanks.

"Watch out!" Valery called out while she extended her arms to project a Force Barrier around herself snd those close enough to her. Massive explosions followed that caused the ground to tremble, and the Jedi Master disappeared under a thick blanket of black smoke and debris.

Smoke billowed in the air, thick and acrid, as the deafening explosion reverberated through the battlefield. Despite the plated armor and shields, along with the extra aid of the Jedi Master with her shields, some bodies were thrown around. Corbin, Accord and Hammer specifically. They weren't able to get under the shield in a timely manner. Corbin and Accord were slow to get up, and pieces of their plated armor fell off, due to burning marks and pieces of metal falling off. They were slow, sluggish but the rush of battle was enough of an adrenaline rush for them to get back under cover. Corbin quickly advised through the comms channels. "Rocket Troopers at the top! Cover fire!" and with that, those that could spare it started to fire at the rocket troopers. The adversaries were quick to retreat behind their sandbags, but it's enough to keep them down, and the rest of the Alliance troopers safe.

It's only during that momentary relief that Corbin realised a terrible sight; burnt skin from the corpse of Hammer, not moving. Corbin tried to rush over, but Accord stopped him. "He's dead, Lieutenant. We'll mourn later, we can't get distracted right now." and with that, Corbin kept his focus. "Okay... the next anti-air battery is in the next station over. Let's go." and with that, the shocktroopers started to extend their energy shields by a wide margin, essentially covering their entire bodies but it started to drain power cells; fast. It wouldn't last.

With the tanks still coming in and enough of the Alliance troopers giving covering fire, they were able to get to the next anti-air battery unit, the controls these times being inside a bunker. Acting as a cover for the squad to get a breather, with the remaining soldiers aiming their guns towards the exit, ensuring that no stormtrooper can get through.

But the squad wasn't the only one doing their part. One by one, the comms channel became busy as other squads had their objectives, and the confirmation of complete objectives rang through. "Anti-air battery disabled on the northeastern side, over." "Anti-air battery disabled on the north side, over." "The shield generator is turned off." each click of the radio and each line only reported good news. The tanks going inside the fortress really disrupted the flow of the Imperials, but there's one concerning radio call... "This is Private Jones reporting, something's taken down two squads of our men- Oh... NO NO!" and on the other end, severe burning cuts would be heard, akin to a lightsaber. Corbin looked intensely towards Val... somebody on the Imperial's side with a lightsaber?

A spike of fear, a flash of pain, and anger to fill the void left behind, as the first casualties fell on their side. Valery knew it was impossible to go into a battle like this and have everybody survive, but she wasn't happy with the fact that she had been unable to shield them agains the missiles. Others had gotten hurt too, and they still had a way to go, with another battery already being targeted.

Luckily, the rocket troops were at least taken down, and once the smoke cleared, Valery began pushing through towards enemy lines. A bright fire was burning in her orange eyes, and she seemed to move even faster to overwhelm their enemies. By the time they locked their weapons on her, she was already gone, or right up in their face to take them down.

But as the fight continued, reports from their allies began to reach them, and while most were positive, one stood out to everybody.

Glancing to her side, Valery caught Corbin's gaze and nodded. "An Imperial Knight!" She called out to him, and once her senses spotted the Knight even through the chaos of Battle, Valery moved. She saw the Human male's white blade ignited, as he cut down another soldier, and decided to interfere. With an outstretched arm, she extended her grip through the Force and pulles him closer, forcing him to shift into a defensive guard to keep himself from being yanked off-balance.

Then, violet and white blades of plasma collided, and Valery stared him down. "Last chance to surrender," she told him, as she forced her augmented strength into the lock and began pushing him back even though he stood taller and looked physically stronger.

The Imperial Knight stood tall after his white lightsaber cut through men like nothing, two squads were laid before him. His cloak billowing in an unseen wind. Their eyes gleamed with an unsettling intensity. One that scared the soldiers by instinct, but one that be seen well to any Jedi that saw him; a reflection of his unwavering loyalty to the dark side of the force. With that sudden yank, his smile arose. "Jedi!" Almost like he wanted this to happen, gladly letting his blade collide with hers. That augmentation of hers did indeed push him back a bit, but his rage built up from within, granting him the will to start pushing back physically. "Pathetic. Your power is no match for the dark side!"

The clash of lightsabers echoed through the air, a universal sign between both sides; soldiers alike did not get involved. Both understood that if either side were to intervene, they would be holding back the person that were on their side. Unless the soldiers truly understood the force and how each swing and advanced moment guided their motions;, there's no practical reason for them to get involved, and instead blaster fire raged on whilst their duel continued.

As if to display his power, the Knight quickly dashed backwards in a quick motion, sparing a hand to let out a strong wave of lightning pointed towards Val, emanating dark energy of the force. His smile only grew, becoming more sinister.

Dark Side?

Valery's fiery gaze narrowed as she felt his sickening corruption through the Force. It wasn't the first time that an Imperial Knight became the very thing they despised so much, but it was always still somewhat surprising. Perhaps their dire circumstances paired with the fall of the Empire has finally corrupted his being, and now he lashed out against the Alliance soldiers and Jedi threatening him. She was going to make sure his stain on the Galaxy would not last much longer.

"I've heard that one before," Valery said with a faint smirk, after he forced her back a few steps. The soldiers around them didn't interfere at all, opting to fight each other instead while they likely hoped for their own side to come up on top in this duel. Valery was not going to let Corbin and his men down.

So as the fallen Imperial Knight tapped into his darker powers, Valery readied herself and opened herself up to the flow of the Force. Her left hand came up and as a surge of lightning was fired her way, a blue funnel of Force energy formed within the palm of her hand. The lethal lightning was absorbed on impact, and Valery stared him down with a fiery intensity.

"Time to end this." All at once, she pushed her arm forward and redirected the stream of lightning back towards him, threatening to burn him alive with his own power in the Force. But Valery wasn't going to wait to find out if it worked or not - she accelerated towards him and brought her weapon back around for a sweeping strike aimed at his neck if he was still standing.

She had no desire to prolong this battle.

The knight may have tapped into quick power, but it's bloated power with no fine control over it; compared to someone who's been a Jedi for many years and has much more experience under their belt, the experience clearly showed. He didn't expect the lightning to be deflected back at him, followed by that sweeping strike. The head was quick to fall off followed shortly by the body, and the moment that Imperial Troopers tried to take advantage by shooting Val, they were instead shot down by alliance troopers who were keeping a close eye on the duel. They have a nod to the Master Jedi before they proceeded throughout the rest of the fortress.

With the anti-air guns turned off, dropships started to drop in and reinforce the troopers already inside the fortress. Within the span of twenty minutes, the imperials lost. The element of surprise worked, and troopers who weren't taking the enemy troopers that surrendered into custody were instead taking a moment to breathe. The dust of battle settled as the alliance troopers stood victorious. Their weary bodies ached from the intense fighting, but a sense of accomplishment and relief washed over them as they surveyed their hard-won territory.

Most squad commanders and anyone with high-ranking clearance, Corbin himself included would be found at the communications center. They were trying to consolidate everything; how many men they still have left, what equipment the Imperials have, and what reinforcements can still come to aid them in the incoming second wave. Based on the time that it took, they still have an hour and a half to prepare. Corbin tried to call for Val, hoping to see that she's still okay. "Master Jedi? You still alive?" he didn't expect her to be dead, but just asking something so boldly, he'd hoped to get a response from her.

Valery only briefly stared down at the charred, headless body of the Imperial Knight before the Force snapped her attention back around. A surge of danger appeared, signaling her of soldiers wanting to attack from behind, but before she could respond or raise her guard, they were already being dealt with. She offered the Alliance troops who backed her up a grateful smile, and joined them for the last sweep of the fortress.

With how many Anti-air batteries had been taken down at this point, dropships finally entered the battlefield and supplied the Alliance troops with much-needed reinforcements and other supplies. This battle was over now, and once that realization struck the Jedi Master, she disengaged her weapon and let out a soft sigh. There were casualties on her side, which she knew could never be avoided, but she was relieved that the damage wasn't too great. They still had the numbers to resist the second wave, if they were so bold to still make their move.

"Master Jedi? You still alive?"

Valery blinked as the question came through her comms device and raised it up to her lips, "Alive and well. Surprised?" She asked with a smirk before heading over to the communications center herself. Once she found it, she made her approach and looked him over once, to make sure he wasn't badly injured and just trying to push through. "Bit roughened up, but you seem alright as well."

Most of the people within the communications room looked at her, once again, they saw her as a symbol of hope. Jedi, they tended to have that effect. The officers were then quick to resume their duties, seemingly more determined than ever. Corbin nodded to her statements. "Yeah, a few burns here and there, but nothing I haven't handled before. I can still fight." He felt it mainly around his shoulder and his hip. The one on his hip is fortunately very weak, more like a stinging annoyance than actual pain. "We're setting up now. We're trying to find all the equipment the imps have, and then use it to our advantage. We have to be ready for the possibility that the imperials will do both a ground assault and air assault. Hopefully they won't be that bold with the anti-air guns activated which should stop them from landing troops, but you never know. We have troops setting out traps in the nearby forest just in-case. Wires, concealed mines, that sort of stuff. We'll hear first-hand if they have troops approaching."

Before their conversation can continue, an officer came towards the duo. "Master Jedi. Lieutenant. We're being hailed by imperial communications." Corbin looked towards Valery for a moment, before glancing back to the office. "Put it through." at the very least, they would hear out what they have to say. They could get an idea of what the imperials are planning to do if they let a officer run their mouth and threaten them.

I00Llr0.png

The flickering blue hologram materialized before the alliance officers and Valery, casting an eerie glow in the dimly lit command center of the captured Imperial fortress. The image solidified, revealing the stern visage of an Imperial officer, his cold eyes filled with arrogance and superiority. With a voice that dripped with condescension, the officer addressed the troopers, his tone laced with a thinly veiled threat. The crackle of static mingled with his words. "Alliance troopers, this is your only opportunity for mercy," the officer declared, his voice echoing through the chamber. "Surrender now and save yourselves from the inevitable fate that awaits you." Corbin crossed his arm. He could say quite a few things to the officer, and it seems like everyone else did as well. But they knew that this sort of talk required a diplomatic mind, to glean as much information as possible, to get him talking. They looked toward the one peacekeeper in the room, the Jedi.

"If there is time, have it looked at," Valery said after he explained the mostly mild injuries he sustained in the battle. He could probably fight without immediate medical attention, but it'd be a lot more comfortable to have it addressed before the next fight if possible. She then dipped her head in response to what he said about the preparations, and looked confident about it as well.

"Seems we're well-prepared. They won't have the same tricks we had, so I doubt they can even hope take this fortress." Sadly, she was proven wrong when another officer mentioned the Imperial call, and put it through. A very typical Imperial officer appeared, demanding the surrender of the Jedi and Alliance soldiers within the fortress.

Valery felt a wave of emotions in the Force in response to just the idea of listening to this man, and caught glimpses of the soldiers turning to her. Her attention then shifted to the Imperial, and she began to speak, her voice strong and calm.

"We have not only defeated this position you believed impossible to take, but we did so with minimal casualties and we've repurposed the weapons available to us here," she stated rather bluntly without offering too much detail.

"Even an attempt to attack will come at a heavy price, so I urge you to set aside your pride and think about the lives of your people. They lost so much already with the collapse of the Empire. Don't send them into their deaths."

She paused a moment and looked around at all the soldiers in the room before turning back to the Imperial.

"Because we will not surrender. We will fight, and we will win."

The Imperial officer's face contorted with a mixture of anger and frustration as he listened to the resolute words of the Master Jedi. He had hoped to break their spirit, to sow seeds of doubt and fear. But instead, he found himself confronted by an unwavering resolve that seemed to chip away at the foundation of his own convictions. With a cold, venomous tone, he retorted, "You may have taken this fortress, but victory is not so easily claimed. The Empire will rise again, and your triumph will be short-lived." His words dripped with defiance, a desperate attempt to maintain an illusion of power and control. Yet, deep down, he knew the truth – with the remnants as they are, those words are just words, and his words held little weight against the determination of the alliance troopers.

He yet continued, as if to keep his own belief strong. His voice tinged with a mix of desperation and false bravado, "Your arrogance blinds you, alliance scum. You underestimate the might of the Imperial war machine. We will rain fire upon you, reducing your ranks to ashes. Your victory here will be your downfa-" and with that, Corbin felt pretty sure that everyone was sick of hearing him go on and on, and the hologram dissipated into nothing. "Enough of that. Let's start getting ready."

Within the newly captured fortress, the alliance troopers wasted no time in utilizing the disabled equipment to fortify their defenses. They moved with purpose and determination, their steps echoing through the corridors as they harnessed the power of the once-impenetrable stronghold. Amidst the controlled chaos, troopers hurriedly manned the anti-air batteries, their fingers dancing across the control panels, bringing the dormant defenses back to life. The hum of machinery filled the air as the batteries swiveled into position, their cannons trained on the sky, ready to unleash a storm of blaster fire upon any Imperial starfighters daring to approach.

Elsewhere, teams of troopers worked in tandem to reactivate the shield generators, painstakingly bringing them back online. Sparks flew and consoles flickered to life as the generators emitted a pulsating energy field, enveloping the fortress in a protective barrier. The troopers felt a surge of confidence knowing that they could now withstand the imminent onslaught with an added layer of defense.

Scattered throughout the fortress, troopers scoured the armories, collecting whatever weaponry and munitions they could find. They strapped on the discarded blaster rifles and donned salvaged armor, each soldier gearing up with fresh equipment. They had transformed the Imperial fortress into their stronghold, their bastion of resistance against the incoming second wave.

During all of this, took roughly an hour to complete. Corbin remained near the top wall of the entrance, to keep an eye on both the sky and the ground. Comms chatter eventually came in to confirm everyone's positions. "Anti-air guns online and standing by." "Shield generator operating at seventy-perfect efficiency, but running." and with that, the Lieutenant Colonel who joined them issued an assurance. "Troopers, we've done everything we can to reinforce this fortress. Well done to all of you getting it done in a timely manner. It's a waiting game now."

Corbin looked around to see where Val but, hoping she'd stick with his squad. He wasn't sure why, but he's liking her as an addition, having a Master Jedi at their side definitely had it's benefits.

Well, that was pointless.

Valery smirked at Corbin and dipped her head in appreciation when he shut off the holo-call. A part of her wished she could have seen the Imperial's face after the call ended, but she had more important things to focus on right now. The soldiers were all preparing the fortress for the inevitable battle, and she wanted to help them out. She just didn't understand too much about guns or heavier weaponry, so she focused on helping with moving around heavier obiects and supplies.

Telekinesis was a very useful skill, especially in the absence of machinery or tools that would otherwise do the heavy lifting. But after about an hour passed, and the whole fortress was ready for battle, she did look around to find the soldiers she had joined since the start of it all.

Once she sensed Corbin up on the wall, Valery walked over and jumped unnaturally high to get up on the wall herself and join him. "You ready for this?" She asked before glancing around to get an idea about how defenses were set up at this section of the wall. "I have a feeling that enemy morale will be low. So if we get the upperhand, I believe we should pressure them and maybe try to get them to surrender." It'd save a lot of lived on both sides, which she'd always support as a Jedi.

"And did you get those burns looked at?" She looked down to where he had been hit before looking back up at his gaze

Corbin met Valery's concerned gaze, his expression hinting at a mix of gratitude and resilience. He ran a hand lightly over the still-healing burns on his arm, feeling the tenderness beneath his touch, only briefly looking away. "... I didn't get a chance. I'll be fine, but thank you for worrying. I'm ready to give everything I've got. Together, we'll make sure those Imperial forces regret ever being here in the first place." His words carried a silent determination. "How about you though? I don't think you look hurt, especially with the way you just effortlessly jumped over that wall... but still." A way to change the subject, or focus on the enemy. He felt like a scolding is coming from not taking care of himself in regards to his burns.

Sensors were picking up all over the place, and communications were quick to follow after. "Imperial ships in the atmosphere. They've arrived." he thought of what Valery said, with their morale being low. He sure hoped it was, but they seemed pretty determined to get this fortress back. Why was it so important to them anyway? There has to be more information on that front, but that's something he'll follow up on after the battle is done.

Every soldier made sure that their power cells were restocked, their blasters reloaded and ready to go, and took covered positions and aimed over both the ground and air. The moment that any sort of enemy came from any kind of direction, the alliance would be ready. Corbin even crouched down to a nearby short wall, resting his blaster rifle over it to look across the forest.

"Need anything to help us look out? I'm sure we have spare binoculars somewhere..." he didn't want Val to just sit around, since he's sure that she might feel a bit anxious just sitting around waiting for something to happen.

"You had an hour..." Valery perked a brow and didn't break eye-contact, so when his gaze returned, she was still looking right at him. "But you're a better judge of it than I am. Just don't put yourself and the others around you at even greater risk." She was going to leave it at that because she wasn't his mom, but she did hope that the injury wouldn't get worse or hinder him when it could cause serious problems for everybody.

"I didn't get injured, luckily. Only inhaled some smoke from those rockets, but I filtered everything out." She offered a more friendly smile again and gently lowered herself to sit down with her back against the wall. Comms were going off about incoming Imperials, so she wanted to stay in cover and leave the ranged attacks to the soldiers. Even if she had ways to strike from afar, she wanted to save her energy for when the enemy was closer and able to deal more damage.

"No need, I can sense them approaching," Valery then told him while she closed her eyes and focused on the flow of the Force. For now, the enemy felt determined, and was fueled by anger. But she had a feeling when transports would go down and mines started exploding, that their feelings would change quickly. They had to experience what exactly they were up against.

"They're getting closer to the mines. When you hear an-" she stopped as a powerful explosion echoed through the forest. "Get ready!"
