Stop #5: Kamino (Enigma)

SARI laughed. "I think that these two will suffice for now. My systems could withstand at least twenty reproductions before they began to deteriorate, but I'm not too sure I want to reach that point."

Well... If they ever did begin to deteriorate, I do have the data necessary to repair them and keep them going for an indefinite amount of time." She smiled, knowing that Sari would outlast even her - a sad thought.

"True. But deterioration eventually happens to all of us, remember. For organics, it's old-age. For A.I.s, it's devolution. We lose everything we are until we're nothing more than simple holo-images. No life. Just a preserved picture of what we once were. I've read about it happening to other A.I.s from long ago. Your technology might be able to keep me alive longer, but it can't delay the inevitable. Remember that."

"Still, you'll be long gone before I ever am. Though I do doubt these new AIs will last as long as you initially." She frowned, cuddling up with Sari. "I'm really resisting the urge to poke it and see if it's solid."

"Indeed." She curled up a bit more with Sari. "You know, here's an intriguing question. Why is your 'pregnancy' displayed the normal human way? I would've expected varying pulses of different colored lights within your holostructure."

SARI thought for a moment. "I'm not sure. It might be because of the solid-state emitter I'm currently using. I bet if I was in my normal holographic state, I'd be a very colorful display."

"Perhaps." She paused, considering the situation overall. "I honestly wish you could interact even further with humans. The solid-state projector means you always have to be with it, and if something happens to you, you'll be stuck, unable to get help since you'd be unable to leave the projector due to the proto-AIs growing within your code."

"Yes. That little droid we've got it attached to only has so much defense in that situation. If someone were to destroy it..." SARI shook her head at the thought.

"Tell you what..." Circe paused, thinking for a moment as to how best remedy the situation. "If the holoprojector gets disabled, I'll allow you to transmit an emergency data transfer, which will reroute you and your children's data back to the mainframe. One you reach the 'stasis' stage of this pregnancy, you'll be able to safely do that. But once 'activation' begins, you won't be able to." She paused, thinking as to whether or not this was going to be the best option. "It seems safe - then again, I wouldn't want to hurt you or anything."

[member="SARI"]

SARI nodded. "We'll also have to consider what will happen should someone obtain my chip. That's my core. Once it's destroyed, so am I."

For a moment, she thought on this. The chip ultimately did carry Sari's intelligence - was there a workaround to that? "Perhaps I could transfer all of your data to a new chip, one specially designed to survive practically any disaster. I would need to examine your current chip, though, and I don't feel comfortable doing such at the moment."

"It's over 400 years old. The data core preserved it, however. It's practically brand new. We'd still have to be careful if we tried anything, though." SARI looked down at her stomach. "We'll have to find chips for them, too."
[member="Enigma"]

Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?
"True..." She placed a hand on the holographic bump. "Unless we want to go through the trouble of housing them in a mainframe, like a virus. But that wouldn't be preferred." Thinking, she pondered on how best such a piece of technology would work. "We could always develop a suit of armor with an integrated microchip they could live in."

[member="SARI"]

A possibility SARI had been considering. But she'd at least like them to be born first, so she could see their raw holographic forms for the first time. "We'll look into that later. For now, let's explore a little. I want to gather all of the information I can."

The meatbag sitting next to the AI smiled, giving her another soft hug. "Why did they have to make your holographic form so... so spectacular-looking? The body I'm growing for you is going to be supermodel-quality when it's done."

SARI laughed. "Well, this is what Sarina Reeve looked like in the last days of her life. Her genetic sample determined my form." She didn't really consider herself a super-model by any standards.

"I suppose I regret not being there to meet her in person a few centuries ago... but you're going to be the next best thing once we get you situated." She paused. "By the way, I believe I may have the basic design for a new chip that your children can utilize. It's a bit large, but it does have a built-in holoprojector."

"That's great! When can I see it?" SARI said happily.
((OOC: Sorry for the tiny post, but I've been working on a few things that you've got to see!))

"Soon... I've yet to construct a prototype, and it of course will have to be tested with more primitive AI systems before an enhanced system such as yourself or your children reside there." It was a fair point, after all - she didn't want something to go wrong that would harm Sari in any possible way.
