Her voice, while edged in growing emotion, didn't rise an octave. Instead her emotions revealed themselves in the flush of her face, the slight trembling of her hands, and the way she seemed to latch herself to a single position as if she didn't dare move from it. Likely to prevent her from getting too animated. She knew herself. Knew things could get ugly.
"Pretty easy to see." her lips pursed. "But that only works in so far when the woman in question is actually there to do the things that need doing."
She was specifically talking about his absent wife. In as long as she'd known him, Danger had yet to see scale or hair of her. What sort of mother and wife leave their family be behind?
