STANDARD FEATURES
 • Has a garrison of several hundred soldiers on board with equipment and traps (ray shield, blast door, decompression) to hinder boarders.
 • Most guns placed on top, bottom or rim of station. This allows it to concentrate fire in almost any direction.
 • Hangers located below the rim to allow fighters to launch under cover of fire.
 • Has a protected bridge.

ADVANCED SYSTEMS

Strengths:
 • Arcs. The distribution of weaponry allows the Starlance to fire in any direction against any plane of attack. Its biggest guns, the Harbingers, have a 360 degree, 90 degree elevation on the top and bottom.
 • Firepower. The Starlance is very heavily armed, comfortably matching even the heaviest armed Star Destroyer.
 • Hanger. With 11 squadrons of attack craft, the Star Lance has cards to play against enemy fighters or bombers, and can even go over onto the attack as well.
 • Moving. Though a station, the Starlance is not strategically immobile. After battles it can leave through hyperspace, making it possible to be used in battle as an artillery piece.
Weaknesses:
 • Speed. Though the Starlance can move it is very slow. In a tactical sense it cannot move appreciably during a battle. Thus, an enemy with superior long range weapons can avoid much of the station’s fire and slowly wear it down.
 • Defences. Though heavily armoured and shielded the Starlance is not impregnable. Heavy continual fire from destroyers or battlecruisers will overpower it.
 • Escort. The Starlance requires support both from flak and capital ships. If left alone it can be overwhelmed by mass enemy fire.
 • Mobility. Though it has all around fire arcs its weapons are limited individually. This means that despite its fire arcs it cannot focus all its weapons against a single target. Thus it does better fighting enemies on multiple fronts than taking on a single enemy.

Description:
The Starlance is Firemane’s answer to the needs of defending many outposts and civilian stations. It is extremely heavily armed, and features a vast array of weaponry types for all occasions. The circular ‘dish’ shape allows it to mount weapons to face in any direction or plane, giving it the ability to take on enemies from any side.

In addition to its weapons, the Starlance has hanger space for 11 squadrons of any variety of attack craft. This allows it to protect itself and other ships with a screen of fighters, or make an attack with bombers if needed.

The Starlance is monumentally slow. In battlefield terms it cannot reposition or move. However, over a longer time span it can move out of orbit and jump to hyperspace when needed. This allows it to serve as defender not just of planets but of civilian stations like the Arx Aeternae as well. It can even move into a position and act as an artillery piece during battles.

Like all stations though, it is the inability to avoid fire which is most problematic for the Starlance. And given that it had so many fighters added, it lacks the heaviest levels of defences. This means it can be overwhelmed if not well supported. Ultimately the Starlance acts best as an artillery battery and support station rather than taking on the enemy alone.

Do you want "closed market" in the affiliation too, if you're planning on selling it?

Hangar: Moderate – 9 squadrons.
At 2000 meters, a moderate hangar rating would be 8 squadrons. Typically, the number listed with that rating is the maximum associated with it for its size, but you could go lower than that if you so desired, like "7 squadrons" in this instance. But there's usually not much incentive to do that, unless it's to balance out for the addition of a minor strength not reflected in the ratings (like an unusually advanced sensor, for instance).

Overall, this also looks like it's currently one rating too high. As a suggestion, one possibility might be to move the speed or maneuverability to "none", given that note in parenthesis behind each rating. If both of them are changed to none, the hangar could also be increased, if you would like.

EDIT: We're currently not counting hyperdrives for balancing purposes on capital ships unless they're exceptionally fast. If you wanted to, you could increase the hyperdrive to a faster rating if you so desire.
