Standardization of starship judging.

So as per our skype chat and because of recent submissions I would like to look into getting all the judges on the same page as far as judging starships.

These are just some ideas I have from observation of how my ships and others were judged and how I have judged ships.

First this is not a guide or an attempt to create one or any formal presentation to the forum. Just some ideas I have for helping us all judge and be somewhat standard in doing so.

First is Stick to the current 3.0 template. It is in place and anything we decide or not decide should stick to it.

Template sub division.
I think for judging sake we think of each template class in a divided light and heavy class of each. This would limit the lower half of the class size from having guns equal to the higher size. And do away with the old Cap/Warhead/Defense system for 1 numerical rating. for instance. A corvette under 100 meters would have a rating of 16. This allows people to put any mix of weapons they wish as long as they do not exceed the 16. we just look at the weapons and use the following

Capital guns = 1
Light Warhead Launchers = 1
Heavy warhead Launchers = 4
Defense guns = .5

Modifiers
Heavy = 2x
Repating and Fast Mounting = 2x
Light = .5x
Long Range = 5x
Double = 2x
Triple = 3x
Quad = 4x

This also makes a few canon ships which were broken per the 2.0 guide now possible such as the Marauder and DP20. just for corvettes. The Strike Cruiser for cruisers was broken per 2.0, but with a one number system is is possible.

I would also like to change batteries to 5 weapons as they are in layed out on cal cruisers and Star Destroyers. but thats just me. It gives a difference in quad and battery which I like, but I see where it would rock alot of boats. It would have to be a "from this point on" and not count towards grandfathered ships.

A single number as a rough guide for how many guns can be placed on a ship. where each Template class is divided into 2 or more sub sizes

Corvette
below 100 meters = 16 guns / No squdron
below 200 meters = 30 guns / 1 squadron

Frigate
below 350 = 50 guns / 1 squadron
below 500 = 100 guns / 2 squadrons

Cruiser
below 700 meters = 150 guns / 2 squadrons
below 1000 meters = 300 guns / 3 squadrons

Since destroyers and dedicated carriers have a much wider size range we can divide them into 3 to 4 sub catigories for judgement sake.

Destroyer
below 1500 = 600 guns / 3 squadrons
below 2000 = 850 guns / 6 squadrons
below 3000 = 1100 guns / 9 squadrons

I would also like to add pocket carriers. Alot of people want them and like to use them. I get more complaints about carriers than anything.

Dedicated Carrier
500 to 749 = 40 guns / 3 squadrons
750 to 999 = 100 guns / 6 squadrons
1,000 to 1,999 = 300 guns / 9 squadrons
2,000 to 3,000 = 500 guns / 12 squadrons

This gives people the carriers they want and stops them from bitching about not being able to build a Venator. They can now and give it 9 squadrons. This does give the option of ships over 2km carriers having more than 10 but limits destroyers over 2 km to 9

Here is what I've done with the above:

  • For each rating within the class template I've added specifics on where development would be required.
  • I've made the armament rating mandatory
  • I've added several example templates at the end of each section
Advantages:
People have clear examples of ship values that are acceptable (at least three ships per class)
Factory judges can use these as a basline for judging
Writers are given clear guidelines on where development would be required
All information still in one easily accessible template

To be clear the numbers might be off and the formatting is ballsed.

All I've done is added the (Above/below XX typically requires development) lines and the example ships beneath the two classes.

10 is medium weapons/medium defense,
I still would like this to read Average not medium.

I still think setting an average within the speed and maneuvering is best. Adding "10 being average" to the template speed would give people a place to start from. they want faster they slide down. they want slower they slide up from 10.

[member="Reshmar"]

10 is not an average rating for ship speed.

I don't understand how changing for average to medium adds anything when examples are clearly given to show what the different ratings mean.

if we are going to use a 1 to 20 scale for speed and maneuvering inside the template then what will be an average speed? From what I got from the conversation yesterday is that every class now has a rating from 1 to 20 just like the armaments are. Bypassing your old scale chart for a rating per template class. So every ship will have a rating from one to 20 per template class now. Making frigates slower than cruisers by default. IF were doing this that way I think a medium point for average speed is needed.

I'm absolutely loving the templates Rhys. If you could give me the edits in all the templates I can toss it up to admins and get it voted up. We need to make it so people know what they're getting into and avoid any stress on you guys. I think this is where we've been lacking, we have a handle on tech, vehicles and companies. Just starships have been so free flow.

This has been answered/corrected in this thread, as it was a misunderstanding.

Summary:
Starships still run on the same 1-20 scale, with 1 being incredibly fast and 20 being incredibly slow, 10 is still the medium speed, not average. Misunderstanding was made when Spencer notified the factory that the 3.0 speed chart was placed in the starship template to replace the 1.0 chart that (for some reason) had still been listed, and then summarized the difference between the two. Starfighters, for example, will still normally be around 2-4 speed/man, and so on. The misunderstanding was due to Spencer explaining that a starfighter with the same speed as a frigate would still be faster.
