While the New Imperial Armed Forces entered the onset of the Third Imperial Civil War with a stalwart list of equipment available to them, time takes no prisoners and one of the more enigmatic holes in the New Imperial panoply is one of the most important. The standard service rifle. While Karovnogal is the producter of a majority of the standard weapons used, production liscences from REC, Corondex and other arms manufacturers have also served the role by preference of armed forces branches and individual unit. As of 864 aby, the de facto service weapon is the SE-61x, a particle beam carbine produced by Karovnogal based off an older Imperial model. It was found suitable to the role enough to stave off COMNOR's Committee of Improvements from seeking a replacement until the onset of 865aby, the starting year to the New Imperial military's refitting and rearmament project in which New Imperial command would evaluate the equipment and needs of the military. Very soon into the evaluation process, the Committee of Improvements deemed the SE-61x fit for replacement as the New Imperial standard service rifle, opening the slot for competing corporations to draft a replacement that met the needs of the military and if none qualified then the New Imperial Armed Forces would begin drafting their own service rifle design.
Karovnogal went to work immediately, being the small arms subsidiary of the Technoid Manufactorum which manufactures the personal weapons systems of both the Trade Defense Force and a vast majority of the New Imperial Order while manufacturing the attached weapons systems to several variants of naval vessels and ground vehicles. Thus, it would get a natural first look for a service rifle draft. While the New Imperial Order gave their own design specifications of being able to fire fully automatic, eliminating Karovnogal's own BKM-62 battle rifle and must be of carbine length. Karovnogal set out on constructing a full overhaul of the SE-62 by means of making it more accurate, more reliable and more standardized, replacing otherwise more complex internals with easy to clean, replace and repair parts with more ergonomic external furniture with an ease of grip handguard, pistol grip and buttstock, making the gun comfortable and easy to wield for long periods of time. After several months of development, much of it taking place on Skako, Mygeeto and Bastion, the SRK-65 met Karovnogal and New Imperial specifications and the weapon was submitted for New Imperial approval.
