  • Average Lifespan: 100-120 Years
  • Estimated Population: Inter-Planetary

  • Description: The Spilursians were a proud race of amphibious warriors native to the planet of Spilursia on the edge of the Alderaan Sector. In ancient times they spent most of their lives underwater though many modern Spilursians live above water. Their warrior culture has made their High Spilursians a common sight in the Alderaanian Knights. They were split into two "races"; High and Common. High Spilursians looked mostly human with some displaying traits of various sea creatures such as tentacles instead of hair, light suction-cupped fingers, fins, etc. Commons looked extremely fish-like with vibrant scales and fins or tentacles. Common Spilursians were the most diverse looking of the two races and the most numerous. Both had the ability to generate and create bioluminescent light.

      • Always have two legs/feet and two arms/hands

      • Greater diversity in aquatic features
      • Always have two legs/feet and two arms/hands
  • Races:
    • High Spilursian: High Spilursians looked very similar to humans save for a few features that occasionally show up such as gills, pointed ears, webbed feet/hands, and some fin-like frills on their arms and or legs.
    • Common Spilursian: Common Spilursians look similar to and are often confused for Mythrol. They are covered in brightly colored skin of blues and greens with fins sprouting from joints and appendages. They have gills and flat noses that are often no more than slits.
  • Force Sensitivity: Standard
Strengths:
  • The Depths: Spilursians can dive and survive pressures from as deep as 800M below sea level unassisted.
  • Sturdy: As a result of their sturdy bones and musculature they can take blunt trauma well and it is difficult to break their bones with human levels of strength
  • Amphibious: They have a set of gills that allow them to breath both underwater and above water - Though breathing above water is somewhat uncomfortable but the fashionable choice for a modern Spilursian
  • Swim Speed: They could swim quickly underwater
  • Athleticism: The adaptations that make them apex predators in the waters of their homeworld make them super strong, fast, and durable.
Weaknesses:
  • Dry Skin: The skin of Spilursians dries out quickly, especially those of the High Spilursians
  • Dehydration: They can succumb to dehydration much quicker than most other species
  • Decompression: After swimming in depths below 50 meters they have to spend the same amount of time they spent below 50 meters at 50 meters to allow their body to decompress.
  • Pollution and Poisons: Breathing chemicals or poisons underwater or through their gills makes them 10 times more effective and deadly for Spilursians.
CULTURE
  • Diet: Omnivorous with a penchant for seafood
  • Communication: Spilursian; Galactic Basic
  • Technology level: Galactic Standard
  • Religion/Beliefs: Lost to war and time
  • Sports
    • Surfgliding: Spilursia's national pastime. They utilize a repulsor-assisted board to surf the waves, the air, and the underwater currents.
    • Jousting: A blood sport with roots in ancient honor duels. In ancient times, warriors fought in underwater arenas surrounded by volcanic activity. The loser either died or fell into the magma that surrounded the ring. The duels were typically fought using tridents but warriors had their choice of weapons from swords to flails. Modern day Trident Jousting removed the ring of magma and death match win conditions but kept the ring out victory condition and replacing death with a point system. Torso hits were 1 point, legs were 3, arms were 2, helmet hits were 5, and neck blows were an auto-win.
  • General behavior: Spilursians have a caste-based society with the castes split between High Spilursians and Common Spilursians, often simply called Commons. Commons typically held "low" caste professions such as fishermen, crewmates for spacefaring and seafaring vessels, farmers, custodians, and builders. High Spilurisans typically held jobs as merchants, dignitaries, ship officers, etc. Much of a modern Spilursian's life is spent above water, though they began as an underwater people. That changed once the Alderaanians appeared to them and they were forced to adapt their way of life to the expectations of others. Despite this, many old cities and smaller towns/hamlets still reside beneath the waves. They are a martial people due to consistent civil wars throughout their history. Though they are lesser-known or understood than Corellia, Annaxes, or Humbarine, it could be said that the Spilursian Rangers produce some of the best soldiers in the Core.
HISTORICAL INFORMATION
The Spilurisians were native to their world of Spilursia. It is unclear when the biological distinctness between High and Common Spilursians began, however, the species' earliest recorded conflicts revolved around one believing themselves to be superior to the other. The terms High and Common were often traded between whichever ruled the planet. It wouldn't be until Alderaanian explorers found the water planet that what can be now called High Spilursians were made such. During this civil war thousands of years ago the Alderaanians aided the more human-like Spilursians, freeing them from bondage and supplying them with superior technology and training to defeat their brethren. The Civil War was called the Unification War and ended with the High Spilursians of today becoming the de facto leaders of the world. It wouldn't be a full year until the new High Spilursians dealt out their cruel brand of revenge on the Commons, establishing strict caste laws and travel restrictions on the Commons.

Not ready to admit that they had encouraged this inequitable state, the Alderaanians stood by and continued to grow their relationship with the primitive species, eventually becoming trade partners and frequent visitors of the new pleasure world. Several smaller-scale civil wars would occur over the centuries but with the superior technology and wealth of the High Spilursians they were frequently quick, brutal, and quiet. After becoming part of the Old Republic most of the most heinous acts allowed by the Spilursian's caste system were outlawed such as keeping Commons as indentured servants, dredge slaves, and as blood sport combatants. Despite this however, little changed for the life of a Common Spilursian unless they were to work three times as hard as their fellow High Spilursians to defeat the systems in place on-world. This often included becoming great at sports, experts in niche fields, joining the Spilursian military, or the Republic Defense Coalition.

To this day rebel groups hide in the cavernous and treacherous depths of underwater trenches, poisonous coral reefs, and underwater volcanic cave systems. They raid Spilursian vessels by sea and space, using what they can for themselves and distributing the rest to those in need. These rebels are often painted as pirates and smugglers. Some Non-Spilursian media paint them in a romantic light. Most Commons eek out their lives as quietly and painlessly as possible.

Evening, Ikenna Tahj Ikenna Tahj . Hope your day has gone well. I love the art here, it's stunning and beautiful. Could I get a uh, private meeting with a High Spilursian by any chance? Nothing date like at alllllll, promise. I do have a couple of things I'd like to adress before approving this one though:

Average Lifespan | This looks like you left off the number, perhaps during a copy paste over from a doc? Would you please add a number or range to give the reader a feel for the length this species can live?
Origin | A suggestion: You could link the planet Spilursa here even though it isn't currently approved. Submissions that are subbed, whether they're Pre-Codex, in Live Judging, or Approved can be linked to relevant subs. This can also save you a Sub Mod post down the line! :D

Feel free to give a tag if you have questions/clarifications you wanna make or if you've simply completed the edits!

Ikenna Tahj Ikenna Tahj Thanks for adding the link. However, I'll need a number or age range for the lifespan so that it follows the template requirements for a species.
Average Lifespan: [ In standard years. An average age or range is required. ]
Would you mind making that last adjustment for me?
