DESCRIPTION

  • Spango’s Bar and Cantina is one of the better-known establishments in the Blue Sector, famous for its somewhat illegal selection of drinks and the Centaxday holo-darts tournaments that take place in the arcade in the back. This operation would probably have been shut down a while ago, but Glor Spango, the proprietor, gets along famously with an important person high up in CorSec, and so Spango’s continues to prosper. Individuals of all kinds make Spango’s a regular stop, from your average smuggler to even the occasional CorSec police squad. The police are there for drinks, of course.
  • The establishment known as Spango’s consists of a street-level cantina, an arcade and a mailroom in the back, a storage room on the top floor, and a basement. The cantina is a bit on the smaller side, but Spango’s has cleverly blackmailed the next-door casino into letting them expand into the alley. As a result, the bar and the counter seating have been moved to the edge of the room, and the bar expands backwards into the alley. This allows for more seating, and more room for arcade games, which the customers are very happy about.
  • The arcade is located in the back, and three of the four walls are filled with dartboards and holo-games. The remaining wall space is used to house the token machine. The mailroom is of a similar design, with mail compartments covering three walls, and a kiosk taking up the remaining wall space. The storage room entrance is revealed by moving a stack of boxes leaning against the bar wall, which uncovers a circular well with a ladder leading upwards. The storage room itself is neatly organized, with both illegal and legal drinks and food taking up most of the space, and replacement arcade games and tools taking up the remaining space. Many think that the secrecy is unnecessary, but Glor Spango isn’t quite sure what CorSec will do if they discover his storage room.
  • Finally, the basement is where most of the illegal activity in Spango’s happens. The basement is strictly for business and privacy, and you have to talk to and pay Glor Spango personally before you are even allowed to see the entrance. The entrance is the same as the storage room entrance; you just climb down instead of up. Spango’s doesn’t normally have guards, but the basement is under the watchful eye of two large Trandoshans with blaster rifles. The basement is where many of Corellia’s, even the galaxy’s, most dangerous criminals come to discuss business. The room is dimly lit, the space is small, and it’s mostly taken up by three tables. There is a rule against killing anyone, which the two Trandoshans strictly enforce. For added privacy, patrons can purchase masks, which both cover their faces and enable them to talk on an encrypted channel with another patron. Glor Spango does not advise venturing down into the basement unless you are the very tough, secretive criminal type. But if you have a lot of money, that works too.
  • Glor Spango would like to thank you for reading this description, and he hopes you will visit his fine establishment in the near future.

RATIONALE

  • Glor Spango came to own the property that is now Spango’s Bar and Cantina when the next-door casino gave it to him for free in order to pay off a debt. Mr. Spango is very good at placing other people in debt, and the casino was more than happy to comply. Glor Spango has somewhat of a reputation in Coronet City. Well, anyway, Mr. Spango was wondering what to do with his new property when he saw three people come out of a bar down the street, laughing, swigging beer, and obviously enjoying themselves. Mr. Spango decided to turn the property into a bar because: a) Why not- b) He had a friend who specialized in the obtaining of alcoholic beverages- and c) He currently owned a failing arcade, and he could merge the two to save the arcade and make a more successful business. Even better, it turned out that the Blue Sector was in dire need of a good cantina, since the one down the street had just been raided and shut down by CorSec. Glor Spango was worried that his cantina would be shut down too, but then he had an idea that would be appealing to everyone: he was friends with a high-up CorSec official, who would promise not to have CorSec raid his business if he supplied CorSec with names of known criminals. The deal was made, Spango’s became successful, and the rest is history.
