Public Spacer's Dice

The fact was, Kaia had a few other things on her plate. The galaxy had the Unknown Regions to be trailblazed, it allowed her to help move Jedi around, and with Jedi, the Underground soldiers and operatives too. It wasn't as much work as she had done in the past, but it did allow her to work as a Warden. She had been doing a bit too much of her resource collection and gathering as an Operations Director for Starchaser Enterprises. But the operations in that vein were going well.

The Dawn Chaser had moved closer to the Unknown Regions and gave her operations a bit of a better foothold. And that meant there were more than just her in this particular region for rescuing lost spacers.

But it wasn't always time to be pulling someone from their ship as they took a wrong turn on the hyper lane. Sometimes she, and other light freighter pilots had to take a break and gather supplies. And that's where she was. Near Bakura, at the shadowport that was hidden in plain sight, right on the main customs and fueling station.

A few of the landing platforms were kept to specific classes of ships and it was a custom to leave an open container outside of the boarding ramp when it was accepting a mission, and inside was a place to put contact information for a pick up or a drop off after the box was full.

But if they were here for info gathering?

Then there was typically a piece of fruit on the box.

And that was what was out in front of the Pulsar, a YT-2400 covered in a Corellian Bloodsteel finish.

But inside the nearest cantina? That was where the real action was. Kaia Starchaser, one of the more known Wardens of the Sky, or at least one who claimed to be one and watch over the Unknown Regions, was seated in her spacer leathers, quick and mobile, perfect for a Warden. She had her navy blue cloak on over her shoulders and long black hair which currently had streaks of purple was in a messy half-bun disaster.

An empty glass that held a mixed drink in front of her and a full one besides it. She shook the cup and put it upside down on the table. She pushed a few credits forward. "Three threes…" She said. The cup had five 6-sided dice in it.

The goal? Lie your way to the top.

Jeela tossed the shoulder strap of her duffel over her shoulder as she stomped down the ramp of the commercial freighter onto the station near Bakura. A freighter caught her eye and she glanced down at the registration--Pulsar with a distinctive finish. That rang a bell.

She pursed her lips, considering. There was a stock swoop race coming up here on Bakura that she hoped to race in, but she had time yet. If this was indeed a Starchaser ship, she had to meet the pilot.

Starchasers, Merrills, and Tillians- scions of the Outer Rim's semi-legal freedom-fighting families. Not that she'd ever met a Starchaser or Merrill before. She swung her way around, glancing at the fruit in the box with a frown.

"Why is there fruit?" She glanced up and looked back and forth again, before shrugging and heading into the nearest cantina. Someone was playing dice- which caught her attention. Jeela sauntered over and took her seat, just as the woman made her call.

Jeela grabbed a pair of dice and dropped them in a cup, giving it a rattle as she rolled. Something about the words from the green-skinned woman didn't fit right, at least as far as Jeela felt. Truthseeking wasn't exactly her strongest aptitude in the Force- but she would give it a shot.

Her eyes locked with the other woman's before darting down to her own cup. "Five fours."

Vaux smiled a bit as she followed a Hutthound in to the shadowport. One she liked when her clan was running ops out here. Really she was one of two pilots running escort, getting use to the GF-4 Stinger. They were replacing the old TwinTails, and that was the fact of the matter. Her squadron had basically held out as long as possible. The controls were at least the same, but she knew she wanted some mods later. Astromech slots in particular. Either way now she had some time to kill while the heavy pilots focused on finding the buyer, and for her that meant a drink, and maybe some games.

She walked in, getting something strong before noticing the dice table. She walked up, grabbing a cup and dice before rattling them around and dropping the cup and some credits down with a smirk.

"I'm willing to push it six fives."

Kaia was always more than willing to have others sit at any of the tables she was gaming at. It was part of being a Warden, she felt. Being there to help those on the Rim, it also meant helping those who wanted to learn many things. Looking around at the table, she kept her cup over her dice, letting them be hidden from her competition. She had her ship fueled up, so the joy of the game wasn't preventing her from leaving this shadow port. But hopefully it'd find her a job.

A few others had joined her by now, and a few had left.

The good thing about Spacer's Dice? It wasn't something you had to sit at the whole time. You could come and go, between rounds of course.

But as she looked around, the woman grinned. No use of the Force, she wasn't going to be that kind of person. "Seven fives, huh?" Four people, 20 dice… It was possible. "Lets see if you keep those boots."

Now time to roll dice. Five 6-sided dice.

Jeela grinned as the table grew, with more newcomers. It increased the odds of the dice significantly- which was both good and bad. More dice meant more chances to have higher amounts of numbers. But it also meant the number of possible combinations increased further.

She glanced around, studying the original player, and the newcomers, including a hefty Ithorian who looked vaguely familiar. Perhaps from one of her courses? Maybe the criminology one? She wasn't sure.

Jeela leaned forward and rested both hands on the cup, preparing to reveal the dice. "Fortunately it's a simple game- guess how many dice get rolled of any specific number."

Though the Force and Jerec weren't exactly on speaking terms, a familiar and specific heaviness settled into his gut, a mild dread of inevitable doom. Someone at this table, and not him, would be walking away with Ithorian boots.

He strove to keep his pheromones impassive, just in case any of them could smell Ithorian expressions.

What she really needed to do was train her sand cat. She knew her father's was always on the ground whenever he was on a station. Or so he said. Kaia was pretty sure that his sand cat, Atlas, and the astromech Porter somehow bonded in a way an animal and droid shouldn't and were able to pull pranks on damn near anyone. And if her father's stories were true, make off with a pretty decent amount of credits.

Drifter, her probe droid, well, mini probe droid, and her cat? Well, maybe not the latter, not yet. She knew she was running around here somewhere. The droid did at least track the cat.

Good companions, cats.

Maybe better than some other spacers, though she'd never say that.

Looking at everyone, she lifted her cup.

They were going for seven fives. She almost called it a lie, but wanted to see where it was going to shake out.

"Oh not that many fives… but it does seem like… three threes… And a boat load of fours…"

She reached for the pot, to see who would dispute her. Or who would start the next go around.
