Description:

DNA%20genes.jpg

Men and women who work constantly in a field that requires frequent medical procedures to protect them from radiation will find no benefit in this shot. However, for the particularly paranoid or for those men and women on the field of battle; these shots might just save their lives. The Genetic Hardening Injection is a chemical cocktail designed to shield individuals from the harmful effects of low-to midrange radiation exposure. Once injected into the body, this cocktail is attracted to cells and strands of DNA. The liquid composition than clings to and encase the cells with a mucus-like casing, while not harmful to the cells in the long term, can cause fatigue and nausea for the user.

When radiation enters the body through the skin, these casings work to absorb as many harmful radioactive particles as they can to protect cells and DNA from mutation (and from the disruption of the chemical bond within cells). The skin, however, is the least protected and most damage will be done to the outer layers of the body while the vital cells on the microsopic layer are protected. The injection will help stop radiation poisoning and unwanted mutation for up to 24 hours, at which point the beads will enter the third stage of chemical change in which the mixture loses its adhesiveness and detaches from cells and is expelled from the body through natural means over the course of days or weeks (usually causing some discomfort during that time). Since the mixture cannot possibly encase every cell and strand of DNA, what portions of the mixture remain will work to destroy damaged cells to avoid the ill effects as they are slowly dispelled.

This injection is not the be-all-end-all however. While low amounts of radiation can be absorbed by the beads, they each have a limit of how many particles they can stop. In the event of a massive radioactive event it is very possible these injections will fail. For instance, being within the immediate area of a radiation bomb (especially in space) will be a death warrant with or without the injections. However, being on the outskirts of the blast or walking around a particularly radiated engine room will be a safe practice within the 24 hour period the injection works.

secrete a third and final gas mixture which detaches them from cells
If these cells are located in the blood stream, how will this not become fatal? If not fatal, how will this effect those who take this if it enters the blood stream as a gaseous form?

Very good point, in order to fix this I have changed the submission to say that the chemicals simply lose their adhesiveness

Substances injected into the bloodstream that are not liquid and (generally) thinner than blood will cause blood to clot in various places, especially in the heart. How will the foam-like form and the bead-like forms of this medication get by this?

Changed the mixture to a completely liquid state that encases the cells in a sort of mucas-like layer of protection. After the twenty-four hours are up, the undamaged mixture compounds will continue to heal/destroy damaged cells until they are full expelled weeks later.

One last thing, could you give a rough list of what chemicals may be found in the chemical mixture present in the materials list?
Some substances used to prevent radiation problems can be found here.
