DETAILED SPECIAL FEATURES

  • Potent Energy Storage- due to its unique structure, crystalline matrix formed by coalescing and solidifying pure plasma and energy, the sourcefyre crystals are potent batteries, able to store greater amounts of energy within them than a power pack or battery of similar size would.
  • Excited Until Release- a specific pattern of energy or electrical impulses applied to the crystal can cause it to release its stored energy in form of plasma or colorful lightning, while by itself this release is wild and rather random, it could be potentially controlled by lenses or some sort of focus. However, the larger the crystal is the more difficult it is to control it, therefore it is impossible to make a weaponry bigger than anything that could be mounted on a tank. Releasing the energy drains it from the crystal, causing the color to drain from it as the energy trapped within is unleashed until nothing but a clear or grey crystal remains.
  • Explosive- Should the crystalline structure be damaged to the point that it shatters the energy stored inside is released all at once in an explosion that has been described as opening a window into chaos and the heart of sorcery itself. The resulting explosion expands through the area in a myriad of wild colors as it disintegrates and sets ablaze anything within its path. A handheld crystal would have the same area of effect as a thermal detonator of similar size would, explosion from larger crystals would be similar to reactors of comparable or lesser size going critical.
  • Energy Recycling and Stabilization Crystal Matrix- while the crystal structure is undamaged it can remain very stable as more energy is channeled into it, giving it the ability to trap this energy within and replenish what the crystals lost, meaning that should it be connected to another power source it could be recharged, doing so restores colors that would be previously drained by energy escaping the crystal.
Strengths:
  • Potent Energy Storage- due to these crystal's structure being borne out of pure energy and plasma trapped in crystalline form it can hold vast amounts of energy, much more than a power pack or battery of similar size would.
  • Recharge- due to the stable crystal matrix while the crystal is undamaged it can be recharged by being connected to special circuitry and another power source that can feed it more energy and replenish the one that was lost. As crystal loses its energy it loses its color, turning more transparent and grey, recharging process returns this color to it making one able to visually tell apart how much energy crystal is storing by how colorful it is.
  • Explosive- Once the crystalline structure is breached and the crystal shatters it releases all of its energy stored in a colorful explosion that disintegrates and sets area on fire much like a thermal detonator would, in fact a handheld crystal would trigger an explosion of similar size to that a comparable thermal detonator would, while larger vehicle mounted crystals would trigger an explosion similar to that of a standard reactor in said vehicle when it goes critical.
  • Ability To Release Energy- once excited by a specific pattern of electrical impulses and energy pulses the crystal can release its stored energy in form of plasma or electrical burst without damaging its crystalline structure, while this release is usually random it could be potentially fitted with additional systems to control and focus it, making the crystal a firing mechanism for an energy-based weapon. Doing so, however, drains the crystal fairly rapidly unless an additional power source is used to recharge it and becomes more and more difficult the bigger the crystal is, as such no weapon system bigger than those mounted on tanks could be created with those systems. The energy or electrical bursts created by the crystals, depending on how the crystal was excited and focused, are comparable to damage done by blaster or beam based weaponry of similar size and depends on the weapon the crystal is used in.
  • Minor Energy Resistance- while the crystalline structure is undamaged the crystal has minor resistance to energy based attacks hitting its structure due to its structure stability and ability to channel and absorb energy. This extends only to personal blaster fire like common blaster pistols or rifles, anything too intense, like a lightsaber, will be able to damage and melt the crystal, causing it to shatter. This resistance also decreases when the crystal structure is compromised and damaged, but by that point it will be about to explode anyway.
Weaknesses :
  • Explosive- since the crystals explode when their structure is sufficiently damaged they can do so when the systems they are connected to receive damaged, if the crystal itself is affected, destroying them and injuring the user as well as anyone else caught in the blast.
  • Clunky- due to their crystal structure and rotund shape these crystals tend to be bigger and more clunky to handle or store than a common powerpack would, especially when it comes to handheld devices.
  • Weakness To Physical- physical attacks have an easier time of shattering the device and triggering an explosion, especially when the attacks deal plenty of kinetic damage, for example a strong hit from a sword or a hammer or a shot from a shattergun.
  • Limited Stability- as mentioned before the bigger the crystal gets the harder it is to stabilize the energy it releases, as such most of weapon systems using these crystals as firing mechanism are handheld and the biggest gun made around them are anti-armor or artillery pieces mounted on tanks, no higher caliber gun with these crystals exists.
DESCRIPTION

Introduction: As the shattergun technology used by ARGH advanced so it became apparent just how much energy the electromagnetic firing systems were using and that a better power source than standard power packs previously used was going to be needed fairly soon if more advancements in technology was going to be made by ARGH. And so it came to be that HK commanded for his underlings to divert resources and begin research on a new power source to used in their future designs.

History and Technical Detail: The breakthrough came the design and manufacturing of BlastStaves used by ARGH when HK wished to upgrade their designs into Lightbows, and for this purpose they required to manufacture synthetic lightsaber crystals. However, rather than making the crystals through usual alchemical means the ARGH tried to form crystals out of pure light by slowing the rays of light down in chamber where temperature reached absolute zero until they formed a stable crystal structure. They were not able to form a lightsaber crystal by that method, at least not yet, but during one of the experiments they channeled through the chamber pulses of pure energy in form of plasma, while most of the energy dissipated with each pulse they were able to get some of it to stop in the absolute zero temperature and stabilize in a crystalline structure. With every pulse after that they managed to get more energy to do the same and cause the crystal formed as a result to grow. The resulting crystals can be grown in this process as large as the zero temperature chamber can allow them, which means larger crystals require larger chambers, and do so into seemingly random shapes unless special effort is put into shaping them into a specific form. The growing process is rather slow which means that these crystals can't be effectively mass produced like their power pack counterparts can. They named these crystals "Sourcefyre" as the explosions and energy released by these crystals is similar to appearance to fire released during some sorcerous Sith rituals.

Strengths: The biggest strength of these crystals is the large amount of energy they can store, making them a more efficient power storage unit than a powerpack or standard battery of similar size would be, this is also means that smaller crystals can store as much energy as bigger power packs, cutting down on weight in designs that utilize them and freeing up more space. The energy stored within these crystals could also be somewhat manipulated, for example the crystals can be excited by a specific sequence of energy or electrical pulses, causing it to release the energy stored within without harming the crystal, which in turn could be focused or directed by additional systems to form colorful plasma-like or electrical beams and bolts of energy. The crystalline structure is also very stable when undamaged, giving the crystals resistance against energy based attacks of lower intensity, as well as making it capable of recharging when attached to another power source which could channel more energy into it and replenish the one lost. As crystals use up their stored energy they become bleaker, more transparent as they lose their color, recharging the crystals restores their color, therefore more vibrant colorful sourcefyre crystals hold more energy within them.

Weaknesses: On the other hand, the biggest weakness of these crystals is lost of stability of the energy held within them as the crystalline structure is compromised or they get too big. When the crystals shatter and still hold energy within them, they release it all at once in a colorful vibrant explosion similar in damage to that of thermal detonators as they vaporize most matter in close proximity and scorch area around them, setting things ablaze in strange eldritch fire. Larger crystals also risk similar explosion when releasing their energy to create beams or bursts with additional focus systems, as such the largest weapon systems that can use these crystals are anti-armor turrets mounted on tanks, anything larger or more destructive than that will self destruct. Strong physical impacts, like high velocity projectiles or strikes from a sufficiently heavy objects, have a higher chance of shattering the crystals than energy attacks as the crystals have no way to provide additional protection against such strikes by themselves. Last noticeable weakness is that due to their geometric limitation they are often much more clunky and difficult to store or handle than a powerpack or battery, although that is more of a nuisance one has to deal with when using these crystals.

Conclusion: In conclusion, by themselves these crystals are a more potent, although more volatile as well, version of standard power packs and batteries while the ability to release their energy in beams of bursts with use of additional systems opens up possibilities in the future for these crystals to function as firing mechanisms for energy-based weaponry as well.
