Public Songs of Crystals - Ilum

Wisps of swirling gray covered a vast snowy world with veins and spots of teal. All was quiet in the expanse of black space dotted with twinkling stars where the world rested. It spun gently on its axis as it and everything in the Galaxy swam through the void, hanging in a balance around the quasar of a Galaxy far, far away. Then, in a blink, a lone X-wing slipped into the black sea from Hyperspace.

The world of Ilum was reflected in the cockpit where Neriyan sat. His blue eyes fell on the world of ice and snow. The Padawan watched in awe as memories flooded his mind. Memories of the time he last visited the planet of crystal treasures before the creation of his very first lightsaber. Now, with no lightsaber to his name, he had returned to search for a new crystal. Whatever it would be, he knew the Force would guide him on the right path.

The Padawan flipped switches and turned knobs in his enclosed domain as he prepared the X-Wing Fighter for a course to land. The R4 unit, colored in teal and white, uttered a series of beeps and whistles to communicate with the pilot. Neriyan's lips creased into a slight grin.

"That's right, Arfour. Ilum's dead ahead. Let's take her down, nice and easy."

After a tune of excited whistles, Neriyan's ship maneuvered through the void on a course to a landing zone.

Ilum's cold was the kind that swallowed sound, softened breath, and turned motion into something almost sacred. Nitya moved through the snow with unhurried steps, the world around her muted beneath layers of ice and wind. The planet felt ancient, watchful, and strangely welcoming—its silence not empty, but full of purpose.

She had come here with nothing but resolve and the faintest whisper of the Force guiding her forward. For years, she had walked the galaxy without a lightsaber at her side, not out of fear or avoidance, but simply because the moment had never been right until now. Something in the quiet of Oralis Prime had shifted; something in the current of the Force had changed. Ilum had called, and she had answered.

The snow crunched softly beneath her boots as she crested a low ridge. Below her, the frozen plains stretched in every direction—vast, untouched, shimmering with faint reflections of the crystals hidden deep beneath the surface. Nitya inhaled the cold air slowly, letting it settle in her chest. She could feel the Kyber here, not as a voice or a pull, but as a presence—steady, patient, waiting.

Just as she prepared to continue toward the cavern system her instincts had been leading her toward, a streak of blue light cut across the gray sky. She followed its descent, watching as the silhouette of an X-wing emerged from the clouds. Its engines glowed against the storm before dimming into a graceful landing arc far in the distance.

She didn't flinch or tense. Instead, she stood for a long moment, letting the snow drift across her cloak as she observed the ship's final approach. The presence inside was faint through the storm, but familiar in shape—young, searching, touched by purpose. A Padawan, perhaps. Or someone, like her, walking a path that required them to face themselves in quiet places.

Ilum had a habit of bringing seekers together.

She began walking again, her steps steady, her cloak trailing lightly behind her. She didn't rush toward the newcomer, nor did she avoid him; she followed the same path she had chosen before, which now happened to lead in his direction. The storm curled around her as she moved, the glow of her Zorren eyes catching the light in soft gold.

Whether their paths crossed or diverged, she would accept it.
Whether he sought a crystal or simply refuge, she would not stand in his way.

Ilum held space for them both.
And the Force would guide what came next.

With the same quiet certainty she had carried since arriving, Nitya continued forward through the snow—toward the caverns, toward the crystal awaiting her, and toward whatever the Force intended in this unexpected meeting on a world of ice and memory.

Braze had been taking some time to himself on Ilum since the Zinder event, where he had been meant to meet up with Toby Perris Toby Perris . One of the things Braze was well known for was lightsaber combat and, likewise, lightsaber construction.

He had quite an armoury of different types of sabers he had designed and built, and he still had many ideas yet to create for unique saber forms. Each one was special, even if his desire for aesthetics typically settled on sapphire blue meditation crystals and silver coloured metals.

He spotted a ship in the sky moving to land not too far off. The weather was not being particularly kind today, and he was glad he had chosen to wear his fleece lined bodysuit, which offered him some extra warmth beneath his robes and their built in heating elements. His fluffy black fur lined cloak kept him warm enough that he was content to stand near the entry, feeling as though he should be expecting company rather soon.

A whirlwind of snow bellowed out from below the starfighter as its thrusters steadied its landing. Sublight engines whined before steadily winding down as the craft's power went into a slumber. Now on the planet's surface, the cockpit opened with a sharp hiss.

Her pilot steadily climbed down the extended ladder that jutted out from the starhip's hull. Already the frigid breeze bit and nipped at Neriyan's exposed face. Icy winds tugged at his cloak and hood as they whipped on by, carrying snowflakes in their wake until they could finally come to a rest on pristine snowdrifts. Neriyan's boots made a satisfying crispy crunch once he landed on Ilum's surface.

An inhale drew frosty air into his nostrils and lungs. For a moment, he closed all disturbances off, dulling the cascading winds from his senses as he shut his eyes and focused. Now, he could hear the gentle singing voices of crystals that lived just beyond. Harmonizing together, each with a unique voice, a different calling. At the very least, his body remained warm thanks to his gray cloak and robes.

He turned, eyelids opening and irises focusing now on the silhouette encapsulated by the storm. The stranger grew nearer, each footstep echoing across the winter wonderland. He first spotted the golden glow of fiery orbs that appeared filled with conviction and wonder. He met her gaze with one of ocean blue. A gentle upturn of his lips and crease in his cheeks. A respectful bow.

"Hi there. Seems I'm not the only one here on a journey. My name is Neriyan Soria, Padawan of the Jedi Order. This is my second time to Ilum. To whom do I have the pleasure of meeting?"

The storm curled around her as she approached, snow lifting in delicate spirals around the hem of her cloak. Nitya came to a gentle stop several paces from the young Padawan, her golden eyes steady and bright against the white expanse. His bow was met with a soft dip of her chin — not formal, but sincere.

"You're correct," she said, her voice calm and low, carrying easily despite the wind. "Ilum seems to draw many of us when the time is right."

She regarded him with a quiet, thoughtful openness. He was young, but his presence carried focus and humility. The kind of intent Ilum responded to.

"My name is Nitya Xeraic."

A pause — not hesitant, measured, as if choosing the shape of the truth she wished to offer.

"I am a Jedi… though I don't belong to any Order. My path has been solitary for some time now. Today, I've come to seek a crystal for my first lightsaber."

There was no embarrassment or apology in the admission — only honesty.

The wind tugged softly at a lock of her dark hair as she studied him, sensing the faint echo of his excitement, purpose, and memory vibrating through the Force.

"This is your second time here," she observed gently. "The caves must have left a strong impression."

Her gaze shifted briefly toward the distant crystalline caverns, then back to him.

"If you are willing, we can walk toward them together. Even separate paths can share the same beginning."

The offer was quiet.
Open.
Without pressure.

A simple acknowledgment that Ilum was vast, but solitude was not always required to face it.

Seven had finally worked up the courage to travel off of Veridia. She had spent her days trying to gain as much distance between herself and her past life, not wanting to remotely think about any of it. It couldn't last forever, of course. She wasn't a fool. What she needed was to find herself, somewhere out there in the galaxy. Ilum drew her in like a moth to a flame, flaunting the allure of clarity in the murky void between stars.

Her implants kept her safe from the cold, a fact she rather resented. There was a frustration she had in not being able to feel. Maybe others would be appreciative that they lacked such a weakness, but Seven could only think of how it detached her from reality just a little more.

The former assassin's journey brought her upon a trio of figures in the distance. One was a human man older than her, one was grey and humanoid. The third was closer to her, not yet linked up with the group...

Him.

The wind would swirl around Braze, a flurry of ice to mask his vision for a moment. Then, as though out of nothing, Seven materialized to his left. Her gaze was fixed on the distance, her arms crossed. The hood of her cloak was pulled firmly over her head.

"Why are you here?" she asked him in a rather direct, blunt manner.

Braze presently was as snug as a bug in his warming get up as he turned to look at her gently. "Initially… indulging in the pursuit of attractive distractions. Then I heard a little voice calling out to me… practically begging for my attention. Naturally, I took it as a personal invitation to listen to fate. So now I'm following after it with enthusiasm. The Force and I have an understanding. It suggests, and I interpret creatively. But enough about me…I gave you all my poetic nonsense any how~ So, what about you? What pulled you out here? Curiosity? Don't tell me destiny's flirting with you too~?"

Ilum.

Strange, coming to this part of the galaxy was the tradition that many went on through the years. However, Aileni always felt his path for a Lightsaber crystal would guide him to Kashyyyk. Or even Dathomir if such crystals existed there. Both held more significance for his family over a world like Ilum, yet here he was using a small fighter to make his way to the frozen world. It was wild thinking about the fact that some kind of dream reached out to him and stated that Ilum was where he needed to be next. The Force guiding his mind once again as he stared at the planet as the ship slowly orbited the planet.

Memories... no, not memories. Thoughts upon a Lightsaber came to his mind. Perhaps ideas on how it should look, how it should function. Aileni also knew that creating a Lightsaber was a process that all Padawans had to go through. And that he would need one if he was ever going to be working as a Jedi Shadow and fighting Sith.

"
The concern is less on the way one worked and more on how do I ensure I can match the vision I have for it." Aileni sighed deeply as his mind pondered over the designs in his mind. Thinking on what would be needed and what he would need. There was also the idea that ate away at the back of his mind that Ilum would only provide part of the puzzle to him. And it might not even be the crystal that is the part it provides. Something that concerned Aileni since it felt too uncomfortable that his path was being guided in a manner that he could not explain.

Was this truly how things went with the Force?

Flicking switches and letting out a final sigh, Aileni shifted the fighter from orbiting Ilum and made way to landing on the planet. He had resisted the temptations long enough and staring at the planet from outer space was never going to be providing the answers that he was needing from this trip.

The descent was plain sailing and Aileni grinned to himself as he was finding himself becoming a much more capable pilot. He had adjusted to things reasonably well and being able to fly to where he wanted was solid. Though, he could feel the intense chill from the cabin already. This was not a world that Aileni was going to want to visit often. He could already tell that much.

Wrapping his loose heavy cloak around him more, Aileni made his way through the snowy plains of Ilum. Letting the Force guide his path towards the crystals or whatever other answers that he might be seeking on the world. "
Just have to trust in the Force." Aileni muttered to himself, "though next time, could the Force guide me to a beach location?" He groaned as a shiver passed through his body.

Leo was certainly not in any desperate need for kyber, so why had he landed on Ilum of all places? He could have been anywhere else in the galaxy right now and this planet was too damn cold. It was a small miracle that his old mask and coat were still able to stop his extremities from going numb.

The rouge chalked up the impromptu trip to how long it had been since he'd seen the snow, and if you could get over the karking cold the planet did have a certain meditative charm to it… in its own way.

He continued trudging away from the Dishonour, where it sat parked against the back of a rocky outcrop to protect it from most of the elements, his boots crunching in the powdery floor beneath him. His intention was to find one of the many nice, quiet caves that littered the planet and enjoy the solace for some time. An intention that was interrupted upon him noticing the vague outlines of four figures through the snow, some ways off.

Just my luck. he thought, slightly annoyed at the chances of encountering what was most likely a group of jedi padawan on their way to harvest kyber. Leo attempted magnifying the lenses of his mask in to get a better view, but the constant snowfall mixed with distance made the task more difficult than anticipated. He could identify at least four people some ways away, but could only rely on his intuition as to who they were and what their goals entailed.

Donned in his duster and strange mask, his appearance wasn't what one would commonly refer to as friendly or approachable. Some might even say strange or off-putting. Regardless, he wasn't about to take it off in this bitter cold, and perhaps they could use some help on whatever their task was.

With a conscientious effort to look as friendly and approachable as possible, Leo started off down the slope in the groups direction, being sure to keep his saber and blaster concealed but within reach…

So, what about you? What pulled you out here? Curiosity? Don't tell me destiny's flirting with you too~?

"I don't flirt."

Seven's tone was cold, and she dismissed his playful words with a soft huff. She didn't have time for such things. The former assassin took a moment to compose herself before speaking again.

"I'm just looking for guidance is all," the Evereni muttered. "Have half the sense to think I'll find something here."

She wasn't really sure how to feel about the Echani at the moment. Bitter? Grateful? He had just about killed her before he did a complete one-eighty and helped her escape Kalrath. Then again, maybe that fault fell on her. She was weak... not that she wasn't still weak.

"Still not sure if I should've stayed home or not..."
