Private Snacks, Secrets, and Service

The morning light crept softly into the Noble household, bathing the kitchen in a golden glow. The serene quiet of early morning was broken only by the occasional chirping of birds outside and the faint rustle of Valery's movements.

She stood in front of the kitchen counter, glaring up at the highest shelf of the cabinet. Her favorite Keshian snack was up there, tantalizingly out of reach. Valery's usually graceful demeanor was nowhere to be found. Her hair was an untamed mess, spilling loose strands across her face, and she wore mismatched, baggy pajamas — the kind she'd never let herself be seen in outside the house.

Standing on her tiptoes, Valery stretched her arms up as far as they could go, her fingers just brushing the edge of the box. A look of determination crossed her face, only to be replaced moments later with frustration as gravity won yet again.

"Ugh," she groaned softly, her free hand bracing against the counter as she rocked back onto her heels. She cast a glance at the hallway where the kids were still sound asleep, considering her options.

For a moment, she debated using the Force to bring the box down. But no. She couldn't.

Her eyes then shifted to one of the wooden chairs around the dinner table. It was risky — if Kahlil caught her standing on one to reach the snacks, he'd probably yell or use her middle name again.

But she really wanted those snacks...

"Doooooon't even."

Kahlil was there, standing in the door way to the kitchen now as he watched his wife dragging over a chair. He knew what she was after. Ever since she'd really started to get pregnant, there was only one snack that worked to sate her cravings. Not even something local. It was like a core memory had been unlocked from the time before she was a Jedi, a snack that was local only to Keshain, her home town.

It wasn't easy to get, but he did get it. He raised a hand, casually plucking down the snack. She'd asked him to put it up high so she didn't eat all of them at once. Did that stop her from doing so? No, not at all. And there was no chance he was going to remind her when she was in the middle of her cravings.

"Here, love."

Valery froze mid-step, the chair still in her grip as Kahlil's voice cut through the air. She turned to squint at him, her expression a mix of guilt and cranky irritation. "Don't even what?" she mumbled, though her tone lacked any real bite. The sight of him standing in the doorway with that knowing look softened her annoyance but did nothing to dampen her determination.

When he casually reached up and retrieved the box, Valery's gaze locked onto it like a predator eyeing its prey. As soon as he extended it toward her, she snatched it from his hands with am abnormal speed. "Thank you," she said quickly, already tearing into the packaging.

Valery plopped down at the table, her mismatched pajamas pooling around her as she munched on the snacks with single-minded focus. Each bite was savored and yet consumed at record speed until, finally, she sat there staring at the empty box in her hands.

A pout tugged at her lips as she looked up at Kahlil. "Those were the last ones..." she said softly, her voice tinged with regret. Her amber eyes flicked to his face, and the guilt settled in. "I know you keep having to go all the way to Keshi to get them. I'm sorry, love."

Her gaze dropped back to the box, and she sighed dramatically. "But they're so good..." Still, she clearly felt bad about it.

M977SXg.png

Kahlil just chuckled. It didn't surprise him at all that she'd eaten the whole container again, but it did bring with it another challenge for them considering that was the last he'd been able to get. The other reason of him putting them up high; out of sight out of mind. He reached up, ruffling her already messy hair as he grinned ever so faintly.

"Then let's go. BB, Vera, and Aris got the kids. We can head right to Keshi right now. You can take a bath on the ship, mm?"

Valery scrunched her nose as Kahlil’s hand ruffled her already wild hair, her mock-annoyance bubbling to the surface. "You’re messing up my hair," she grumbled, even though it couldn’t possibly get worse. She tried to smooth it down with one hand but gave up quickly, her amber eyes narrowing at him with exaggerated suspicion.

"Oh, so you think I smell bad now?" she quipped, leaning back in her chair and crossing her arms over her baggy pajamas. There was no real heat in her words, though. The faint smirk pulling at the corner of her lips gave her away.

But then, as his words fully registered, her playful demeanor softened into something warmer. "You're really taking me all the way to Keshi just for these snacks?" Her voice was quieter now, the underlying gratitude clear. She pushed herself up from the chair and stepped closer, reaching out to rest her hands gently against his chest. "You’re the best, you know that?"

Valery leaned up on her toes to press a quick kiss to his cheek, but her smirk was back by the time she pulled away. "But if we're doing this, you might have to help me with that bath," she teased, a mischievous glint in her amber eyes.

"....I also need clothes."

M977SXg.png

"I think you smell fine, but I know my wife."

Kahlil just smirked, idly setting his hands on her waist to hold her closer. He didn't let her kiss his cheek, though. Rather, he stole the kiss for himself, letting it linger for just a moment before he lifted her right up in his arms. "Clothes, baths, and snacks. I'm sure I can handle that." He teased softly, nuzzling his nose to her cheek before carrying her off to the bedroom to pack.

"Comfy clothes, right?"

Valery couldn't help but melt into the kiss Kahlil stole, her playful squint dissolving into something softer and more loving. By the time he pulled away, she was smiling up at him, a light blush dusting her cheeks.

He still had it.

Her laugh bubbled out when he lifted her effortlessly into his arms, her hands instinctively wrapping around his neck for balance. "You're too good to me, you know," she said with a grin, though the warmth in her tone carried genuine gratitude for everything he did. She knew how exhausting it could be, especially now.

As he teased about handling her clothes, baths, and snacks, Valery leaned her head against his shoulder, her eyes sparkling with amusement. "Comfy clothes, absolutely," she replied. "If I'm traveling all the way to Keshi, I need to at least look good while being comfortable."

Then, with a cheeky grin, she added, "But you're sure I'm not getting too heavy for your back? I mean…" Her hand gestured dramatically toward her belly.

Valery tilted her head to look up at him, a teasing glint in her amber eyes. "Wouldn't want to break you before we even get to the ship~"

M977SXg.png

"I'm not so old that my back is starting to give." He teased in response. Then, very much to show off, he'd gather up her clothing to pack away for the trip. All while carrying her. Kahlil shifted her to carry in just one arm to do so, cradling her to the side of his chest. It was mostly stretchy pants and beautiful dresses. Comfort and prettiness all at the same time.

"Sides, I like to think I'm pretty damn strong you know."

Valery laughed, her tone light and playful, as Kahlil effortlessly carried her with one arm while gathering up her clothes with the other. "Show off," she teased, her amber eyes glinting mischievously. But as he shifted her in his arms, her hand found its way to rest against his bicep and pecs. Her fingers pressed lightly, tracing the firm muscle beneath his shirt.

"Mmm," she purred, her voice dropping into a playful, sultry note. "You are strong. Very strong." Her lips curved into a teasing grin, but the way her touch lingered made it clear she absolutely loved it. There was a touch of heat in her gaze as she looked up at him, completely unbothered by his showmanship.

Gosh, she loved him in every way~

As they moved toward the bathroom, Valery tilted her head, leaning in closer to him. "You know," she began, her voice softening but still warm with suggestion, "While we're on Keshi, did you want to make a stop by my old hometown? It's been a while since we've been there, no?"

She smiled fondly at the thought, then glanced back at him with a twinkle of curiosity. "That is, if we don't get too distracted by snacks and baths first." Her words carried a playful undertone, before she added with a little playful chewing of her lower lip, "Speaking of which, the bath tub is a little big for just one person..."

M977SXg.png

"Mm? Am I showing off? All I'm doing is carrying my very pregnant wife while I gather up some clothing to take her on a trip across the stars for some snacks."

Was he teasing her? Absolutely. Did he sound like he was? Not in the slightest. He spoke as if it was the most natural thing to do in the Galaxy. It was to him, of course, but he knew Valery enough to know how she'd take it. He nodded once though, smiling softer now. Getting to spend time in her home town would be worth it. For both of them, and their newest, currently unborn child.

He did smirk wider though as he nodded, idly setting her down on the edge of the tub before rather bluntly pulling his shirt right up and off.

"Then we'd better make sure it's filled, huh?"

Valery's cheeks flushed a deep shade of pink, and she let out a soft, breathy laugh as Kahlil's teasing words washed over her. "Okay, okay, you win," she murmured, her voice playful but tinged with that unmistakable tone of affection. "You're just too good, huh?" Her amber eyes sparkled, but the warmth in her tone betrayed just how much his care—and his teasing—was affecting her. The pregnancy hormones certainly weren't helping; every little thing he did had her practically melting.

When he set her down gently on the edge of the tub and, without hesitation, pulled his shirt off, her reaction was immediate. Her eyes widened, the glint of teasing giving way to something softer, needier, as her gaze locked onto his chest and abs. Her lips parted slightly, and her hand absently brushed over her own stomach as if to steady herself.

Stars, he's hot.

She didn't even realize how long she had been staring until her own reflection in the mirror caught her attention. Blinking rapidly, she shut her mouth and laughed softly, rubbing at her cheeks. "Babe," she groaned, trying to sound exasperated but failing miserably as her voice quivered with warmth. "You're barely trying, and you're driving me crazy."

Maybe it was time for some fun for him. A little reward for how much he had helped her.

....

When the bath was over, the air felt lighter, their laughter soft as they dried off and dressed for the rest of their day.

Now standing in front of the mirror, Valery smoothed the soft fabric of her Keshian maternity dress, the pale, flowing material draping perfectly over her rounded stomach. Her hair was styled, framing her face with a gentle elegance, and she smelled faintly of the floral oils from the bath. One hand rested lightly over her stomach as she turned slightly, glancing at Kahlil over her shoulder.

"I feel much better," she said, her voice warm and content. A small smile played on her lips as her amber eyes found his. "What do you think? Do I look okay for a visit to my people?"

There was a teasing lilt to her words, but the affection in her tone was unmistakable. She shifted a little, the weight of her gaze filled with a quiet, loving intensity. "Thanks for taking care of me. You're amazing, you know that?"

M977SXg.png

Kahlil spent a little more time making sure to pack up everything they'd need. Heating pads, water, meds for headaches and cramps, the like, all while she got herself all prettied up. He knew very well just what she'd want to do when they got there to her home town. Especially considering how the local all female warrior organization treated him. He chuckled at the memory.

And let himself be a little worried for them if they tried anything now. There was nothing more terrifying than an angry, pregnant Valery.

He stepped back into the bathroom to see her finishing up, and smiled warm. He stepped over, leaning down to kiss her forehead. "I think I'm the luckiest man in this galaxy." Then, hup, right back into his single arm hold against his chest. He'd carry her right from the bedroom, heading towards the Bastion as he plucked up the luggage with his free hand.

"Lets go show off how beautiful my wife is, mm?"

Valery’s cheeks flushed a soft pink at Kahlil’s words, her amber eyes shining as she looked up at him. The kiss to her forehead warmed her heart, and the way he spoke of her made her feel radiant, loved, and cherished in a way that went beyond words. For a moment, she rested her free hand against his chest, leaning into him just enough to take in his presence.

"You always know exactly what to say," she murmured softly, her smile tugging wider. "I feel beautiful because of you."

As he carried her effortlessly, she let her mind wander briefly to the last time they visited Keshi. The memory of the Keshian warrior women openly flirting with Kahlil surfaced, and she bit her lower lip. She would kill them if they tried anything now.

When the kiss and his words sank in, she gave his hand a gentle squeeze. "I’m ready," she said warmly, letting him guide her toward the Bastion. Every step of the way, her heart swelled with gratitude and love for him. Once aboard their ship, she turned to him with a soft, affectionate smile.

"This means the world to me, Kahlil," she said, her voice carrying a depth of emotion she rarely let show. "Being able to share this with you, all the things you do for me..." Her hand lingered in his for a moment longer before she glanced toward the cockpit.

Her amber eyes lit up mischievously, and she glanced at him with a playful smirk. "So, um… can I fly us there?" she asked, tilting her head slightly. "I know you’re worried, but come on, I’ve still totally got it."

His smile softened before he just.. Chuckled. Really chuckled. Without giving a proper answer he gently sat Valery down in the captains chair, right by the navigation controls. Was he ever going to deny his pregnant wife anything? No, not at all. What did this really mean though? The controls. If she could reach the controls with how pregnant she was, she could absolutely fly the ship.

Could she, though?

"There's nothing I wouldn't do for you, Valery. And I mean that, for better or worse. You are my greatest strength, and my biggest weakness, and I refuse to have it any other way."

Valery blinked, her amber eyes widening in surprise as Kahlil gently sat her down in the captain's chair. She looked up at him, her lips parting to say something, but her words faltered as his warm chuckle filled the air. He's really letting me fly? The thought made her grin, excitement bubbling up as she adjusted herself in the seat.

Her hands moved to the start-up controls, fingers dancing over the familiar buttons and switches. The hum of the ship powering up filled the cabin, and for a moment, she felt like herself again — her usual independent, capable self.

Then she reached for a lever on the far side of the console. She strained, leaning awkwardly to the side, and realized with a sinking feeling that her stomach was in the way. She tried again, this time using her foot to push herself just a little closer, but it was no use. The realization hit her like a ton of bricks. Slowly, reluctantly, Valery leaned back in the chair, her lips pressing into a pout.

"Kahlil," she murmured, her voice small and filled with embarrassment. She didn't dare look at him. "I, uh… I think I might need you to fly." She fidgeted with the hem of her dress, refusing to meet his gaze as heat flushed her cheeks. She felt silly and expected him to tease, but before she could linger too much on her frustration, his words cut through her thoughts.

And her arms quickly found their way around him.

"Love," she whispered, her voice trembling with love and gratitude. "You're my greatest strength too. And my biggest weakness." She pulled back just enough to look up at him, her amber eyes shimmering with happy tears. "I can't imagine a life without you anymore. You've made everything… better. Just by being you."

For a moment, she lingered, her arms still looped around him as if letting go might shatter the moment. Then, with a small, teary-eyed smile, she stepped aside to let him take the seat. "Alright, Captain Noble," she said softly, her voice steadier now but still filled with affection. "Let's get this ship in the air. I'm ready to go to Keshi."

"...and get my snacks."

There it was. Kahlil smiled softly, reaching over to return the hug as he gently took her up in his arm again. Very casually setting her down on his knee as he sat in the captain's seat and took over the controls. Any chance to hold her right now was a chance he was absolutely going to take. He set the controls, the destination, got the ship rising into the sky. Everything set so he could focus on his wife instead, both hands now holding her around her baby bump to his chest.

"To Keshi we go."

Valery melted into Kahlil’s embrace as he settled her on his lap, her arms instinctively wrapping around his neck. The warmth of his presence, the steady beat of his heart against her, made her feel at peace in a way few things ever could. The corners of her lips curled into a soft smile as she nestled closer, her head resting lightly against his shoulder.

When his hands settled gently over her stomach, a sudden and vigorous series of kicks from the baby made her gasp softly. Her amber eyes widened, and she tilted her head to glance down at where his hands rested. "Oh!" she laughed, reaching down to cover his hands with hers. "She’s never this active. I think she already likes her dad," Valery teased, her tone light and full of warmth.

Her gaze lifted to meet his, her smile brightening. "You’ve got her wrapped around your finger already, huh?"

As the Bastion streaked through hyperspace, its engines humming softly, Valery allowed herself to relax completely in Kahlil's arms. The stars stretched into dazzling lines outside the viewport, and before long, the ship dropped from hyperspace, the serene beauty of Keshi’s system coming into view.

Valery straightened slightly, her amber eyes shining with excitement. "We’re here," she said softly, her hand still resting over his as they gazed at their destination together.

M977SXg.png

Kahlil's expression brightened immensely. There was no containing his excitement, his joy. Feeling the kicks had him grinning like a fool, his hands idly rubbing over Valery's stomach. That was his daughter. "You think so?" He whispered. He doubted he'd be anything more than a dad spoiling his daughter, though. He was just all smiles, holding and cradling the baby bump even as the Bastion dropped from hyperspace and Keshi came into view.

It took a moment for him even to react to what Valery said. They were there. He blinked, looking out the viewport as they'd actually even landed by this point. "Huh. Look at that. Guess we should get up and get you those snacks, huh?"

Valery's smile softened as she watched Kahlil's face light up with joy. The way his hands moved gently over her stomach, his expression filled with wonder, melted her heart. She rested her hands lightly over his again and leaned in to kiss his cheek, her lips lingering just a moment.

"I know so," she murmured warmly, her amber eyes meeting his. "She's going to be all over you, love. I can feel it already." Her voice carried the quiet certainty of a mother's intuition, and the sheer happiness in his expression made her feel even more certain.

Valery's heart swelled as she took in the moment, the love between them almost tangible. She adored seeing him this way — so open, so full of life and love. It reminded her why she had fallen for him and why she couldn't imagine her life without him. "You're so cute when you're like this," she added softly, her fingers brushing against his.

When his gaze finally shifted to the viewport, realizing they had arrived, Valery couldn't help the playful smirk that tugged at her lips. "Took you long enough to snap back to reality," she teased, her voice light and full of affection. "The strongest, toughest man I know, and you're completely undone by a few baby kicks." Her laughter was gentle, her tone full of adoration.

As the Bastion touched down near her old hometown, Valery's gaze turned to the view outside. The farmer's village lay nestled in the mountain valley, surrounded by rolling green grass and vibrant, colorful flowers. The air seemed fresher, the sky clearer, and the sense of peace was almost overwhelming.

Valery placed her hand over Kahlil's and exhaled softly. "It's good to be home," she said, her voice tinged with a bittersweet fondness. After a moment, she glanced up at him with a playful smile. "Should we start at the old Noble place?"

M977SXg.png

"That seems a good a place as any. Maybe they've a recipe for the snacks, yeah?" Kahlil reached down to squeeze Valery's hand gently, smiling. In truth, even if they did have the recipe they'd still be coming here to get them. Any chance for Valery to come back to Keshi was one he wanted to take. These were her people, and ultimately that meant they needed to be here more. For her and their children.

"Good thing time zones change from planet to planet though, hmm? It's not midnight here thankfully."
