- Ultrachrome armor: A blend of ultrachrome and duranium provides formidable resistance to blasters, slugthrowers, and can even shrug off glancing blows from lightsabers.
Well Equipped: These droids come packed with various tools and features more often found on astromech and protocol models, providing the series with a creative edge over competing models.
Hard to Kill: Military-grade composite materials protect the SM4-series from sustained blaster fire, slugthrower rounds, and even a lightsaber strike or two.
Uncanny Flexibility: The strange proportions are supported by incredible flexibility, allowing the droid to duck, bend, and move more naturally than most droids. The model also sports a fully rotating head and hypermobile joints.
WEAKNESSES
Sonic & EMP: Like most droids, EMP attacks will render the SM4-series damaged or destroyed. As well, sonic weaponry can damage sensitive internal components.
Awkward Design: The size of the SM4-series prevents these droids from easily accessing tight spaces, and can prove a disadvantage against particularly small opponents.
Limited Armament: The SM4-series does not come equipped with any integrated weaponry, limiting its armament to whatever can be held in its two “gripper-style” hands - usually pikes and simple blasters.
DESCRIPTION
Hydian-Wyl introduced the SM4-series Security Droid as an elegant alternative to personal security in the Outer Rim. While most security droid models focus on “self-defense” capabilities, the SM4-series comes equipped with a swath of utility features more commonly found on protocol and astromech droids. This includes the ability to investigate crime scenes, track intruders, and record evidence. All of which are essential to oligarchs in the corporate sector and other high-net-worth individuals who want more than a watered-down battle droid for their credits. Though it is that, too.
The SM4-series isn’t just for the wealthy, however. It is also an excellent model for defending homesteads, securing personal property, or filling talent shortages within your backwater militia or law enforcement office. It even comes equipped with a sophisticated droid brain and protocol linguistics module, giving each unit an air of personality that can adapt over time to the needs of its owner (routine memory wipes are advised), not to mention the ability to hold a conversation… just don’t expect it to laugh at your jokes.
Some may find the model underwhelming when compared to more “combat-focused” models, due to a lack of integrated defensive tools or weapons. While each unit comes shipped with a force pike and can easily handle a blaster rifle, it does lack the rocket launcher or flamethrower that many clients ask for, or perhaps illegally install in their SM4-series aftermarket. However, Hydian-Wyl assures all customers that the SM4-series is more than capable in its role and reminds you that any aftermarket modifications violate the warranty.
